We always go to our favorites restaurants when we visit Marco Island. I have read good things about Cocomos, so we decided to try this restaurant. My husband and I both ordered the blackened grouper sandwiches last night. They were the worst fish sandwich we ever had anywhere! The grouper was so very small. It was paper thin and was dry. Best seafood in the area!!! Service was excellent! We went during lunch hours but asked to see a dinner menu to see if we wanted to come back for dinner later. The owner was there and overheard us commenting on how good the dinner menu looked so he stopped & talked to us and ended up letting us order whatever we wanted from the dinner menu. We were able to stop by here 2 times this past week - the food is still good / the new location .....I'm a fan of the previous location just due to the bar being more intimate. I get that the new location has better parking, more seating, and and outdoor but I'm still partial to the old location. Its mostly the bar area - its too bright and feels too sterile. BUT the staff (some of which we recognized from years past) VERY nice, efficient and the food - SO GOOD. Both times we got the tuna nachos - they really are the best. The first night we had the Thai grouper special - SO GOOD! The next visit we shared the potstickers (suprisingly good) and the lettuce wraps. All the fish taste fishy every time we go we keep trying to give it another go there, but it's just doesn't taste right I think the fish is frozen to be honest. Very expensive for dinner entrées that are not great but if you're going with a group for lunch and want snack kind of food like nachos, sandwiches, seafood chowder etc. it's fine. Very disappointing. Cocomo's has an outsized reputation as a local bar and restaurant catering to both locals and the seasonal visitors, snowbirds and tourists alike. I arrived between the planned move to the new location and the closing of the old location, but never dined at the old location. I finally got to the new location, expecting good food, cocktails, and a local's atmosphere. Well, they had atmosphere, friendly bartenders, and a rather disappointing location where the outdoor dining was on the street. Not as bad as it could be, though strangely the bar opening onto the outdoor seating and patio had a system of roll down screens separating the bar seating from the bartenders. Not exactly welcoming and there was no mosquito or other flying insects around. The massive gecko population seems to keep the flying annoyances in check. So, a minor strike, but not taken into account on the rating. What I am taking into account leading to two stars was the overpriced and downright awful appetizer, the so-called spicy crab rolls, of which only one of the three words is remotely accurate, the rolls. A more accurate description would be blob of some flour substance fried. If there was crab and spice there, I could not tell. Serving something like this and asking to be paid for it is, frankly, insulting. It tasted of nothing but fried flour. No taste of crab or spice. The next dish was chicken lettuce wraps. The chicken was cooked and served in a soy sauce by a chef with no knowledge of Chinese cuisine. The next dish was the grouper franchise, which was ok. The only saving grace was the bottled Kona Brewing Company Big Wave Golden Ale, one of their best along with their Longboard Lager. So, my advice, go for a cold beer. Nothing else is recommended. I might go for a beer again, but will eat elsewhere. Recommendation: don't go until there is more attention in the kitchen. Two stars is too generous, but the bartenders and servers are competent and friendly. read more

Mediocre at best! We live here and tonight will be the last time we go. We are a family of 4 with two small children. We got sat right away that is a plus. We needed a highchair that was absolutely filthy! I asked the young man if he could clean it before and he took some random rag and dusted out some crumbs! Come on! We can do way better than that. Would you as an adult like to sit in a disgusting chair and eat. Service was nice. The waitress was sweet and did her job. Food was ick. We ordered the special in-house made jalapeño encrusted grouper that came out of the kitchen at 300 degrees and dried out! To say the least. The martinis of vodka and olives were so off. The ketchup, pepper shaker, and salt shaker were disgusting to touch. Sticky and seemed as though they had not been wiped off for a long time. The overall general feel of the restaurant was like eating in a cafeteria. For a total of $135 for a family of four that dines out regularly. Second visit and just as good as the first! Crab cakes were excellent and very large portion. ,one were the jalapeño crusted per waitress recommendation-great choice! Could only eat one because they were so good. Son got coconut shrimp which was excellent and hubby got grouper with crab cakes. So good! Lemon drop martinis was very tasty. We are regulars at this restaurant during the off-season. Yesterday, we went and we noticed that their Caesar salad, which comes with dinner was half the size it normally is, in addition we ordered the Vietnamese beef noodle dish. PHO, which had no beef. We mentioned this to the waiter who had the owner come over and tell us we should have told him while we were eating rather than at the end so he could do something. In essence, we were reprimanded that we didn't do the right thing in advising him. We we're not looking for anything. We will not go back to this restaurant until the high season is over. Last year we are at Cocomos three times because it was so good. This year, it was very disappointing. No fault of the waitress but they notified us of baked potatoes being out as the food was just about to be delivered. The mahi tuna with and without the nachos was lacking. Not going back this year. I'm not sure how this restaurant gets this high of reviews. Food is mediocre at best. Drunk shrimp were hard and no flavor. Calamari were under cooked. Jerk wings had no spice. We had dinner here last night and it was good. The seafood chowder soup was tasty....not thick. The crackers were a little stale which I can never understand because they are sealed. I ordered the oriental seafood sampler. It comes with two wontons. One is topped with seared ahi tuna nacho style and the other ahi tuna tartare. There is also a spicy crab egg roll which was very flavorful but too spicy for my taste. My boyfriend really enjoyed his fettuccini Alfredo with blackened chicken and another friend got the jerk chicken pasta. My other friends really enjoyed the balsamic dressing on their salads. Rather disappointed this visit. The seating is way smaller than last location. Loud New York guy talking business on the phone for the whole place to hear. I ordered a salad and was told due to the high cost of lettuce I have to pay an extra 2 dollars. Ok. No problem. The joke was there was barely a hand full of lettuce in the salad. They would load the chicken up that I would be able to have dinner and the next days lunch worth of it. But recently, everytime I go the portions get less and this time was my last. The 2 times I have went in there I have had horrible experiences. First time in 2023, staff acted "put out" to serve 2 people more than a hour before closing, all while there are 20+ people in the bar area, even after we left before closing. Food was ok. We tried to give the place another chance in April 2024, stood at the hostess stand for almost 10 mins, again never greeted, several staff members looked at us and went back to sitting down in the corner of the bar on their phones.
