I've heard about this place and I decided to give it a try on Friday afternoon. Went in for a light lunch and cocktail. The bartender made a very nice drink-- the raspberry lemon drop. I would have it again, which is saying a lot because I'm normally not a vodka person. Look forward to returning to try more of their sushi selection. read more

Hip restaurant with great customer service! The staff is very attentive. We've been here maybe five times now, and the food is tasty every visit. I order the vegetarian roll (a la carte) and no dressing if you want to make it vegan. There's not much to the roll, simple. But, the flavors are great, and the veggies come out fresh and crisp each time. My boyfriend ordered the caterpillar roll, salmon cilantro roll, and tuna hand roll. He said the caterpillar roll is a nice classic to order, but that the cilantro roll was his favorite. Different in a good way. I've always been a fan of Cocoro, I remember my first trip here probably 15 years ago and I've been in love every sense. Not sure if Cocoro To-Go over off March lane is still around but that got me thru grad school that was right across the street haha. Love the main restaurant, cute but it is a tight space. Service was also good in the past, however on our most recent trip it left a little to be desired. The server was nice but it seemed as if he had too many tables and wasn't able to be attentive. Also, other servers/bussers walked by with a water pitcher several times and my glass was obviously but they went to one table and then went back behind the counter. As a former server and busser of a cumulation of approximately 10 years, if you have a water pitcher check other tables and offer a refill. Food was good, we started off with the chefs choice nigiri. Everything was very nice, good cuts and very fresh. I ordered the Crunch Rainbow Roll, hubby got the Coco Roll and the Nova Scotia Roll, everything was delicious as usual. Another of my favorites is the SSS Ahi Tuna salad, seriously... order it. Im not a big fan of salads but this is SOOOOO good and turn you into a salad lover. read more

Well, let's just say it was an awful experience. Start to finish I was in regret of my dining choice. I ordered the spicy crunchy scallop roll and my husband ordered the fried California roll. My roll was completely forgotten about, and I tried to enjoy the experience but my husband was entirely finished before I even had one bite. My concern is the lack of ownership for a large mistake like this. I am a server as well and I feel like the right thing to do would've been to hold the other order until my food was done being prepared. I honestly don't know what to say, because I used to go here all the time.. but since we have more choices locally I don't have to travel far for good sushi. Needless to say, I've not been here in a while. We had arrived early, and for whatever reason, our food took longer than expected. I saw all the pictures of the 5 layer Tuna Tartar, and needed to try it. It was good, but not what I expected... We ordered a fave from past, the Beef Cilantro Roll... This was as delicious as it was previously, however my memory may be failing me, I remembered it being or appearing bigger when it was previously served. Nevertheless, it was still yummy. I felt bad because our friend's order didn't come out until we had all almost finished our food. The server graciously took it off the bill. Still a beautiful restaurant, and great location. Disappointed.... 2 days ago, we ordered off the new cocoro's menu. I'm not sure what happened, I always have a good experience and food is always top notch. However, our take out was not so good. Food taste was just not there and the rolls seemed to be smaller and not tasty. We ordered 6 rolls, 2 katsudon , 2 curry dishes, 2 tempura dinners, it was not the same..... Customer service was great and friendly. However they messed up on one roll and we had to go back, to take the roll that was totally put in our order in error. To replace with the correct roll. This place is the best place to go to for sushi/ Japanese Bistro, in all of Northern California. Yes I said that. The staff there are attentive, the bartenders have the best drinks. I've really tried to give the place several chances. Unfortunately the new owners and management leave much to be desired. The rolls are hit and miss. Even if ordering the same thing over and over, it's never consistent (spicy crunch scallop roll, for example). It's close to me and I do love sushi, so I've kept giving it chances to wow me, like it used to (previous owners and management). Dining in: always a disappointment. Part of the fun of going out to eat is the experience and ease. That's part of what one is paying for. They always seem to be severely understaffed and the staff that is there never seems happy about it. It's almost like they're annoyed they have customers. Now part of this I can understand and it's not entirely their fault, because once again, understaffed, but that doesn't fully explain it the too cool for school attitude the existing staff has all the time. I have been a few times when it wasn't super packed, like when they were open around late lunch (though the schedule seems to have cut more lunch option days) and the service was slow, forgetful and again, the servers always seem to think they're doing you a favor by gracing you with their presence. In addition to this, there were dead and dying flies all along the window (I believe this was back in sept ish ..whenever the Miracle Mile care show was happening). It was so off putting and obvious and when asked what they could do about it, my group was met with a shrug and no problem solving. Maybe wipe up the dead flies for a start? I don't know. Also The wait time from entering to seated, to served and checked out is appalling. Have a dedicated hostess to promptly greet, seat or at least tell customers what kind of wait they're looking at. Just make quick contact with your patrons. There is no "please wait to be seated" sign which makes it even more unprofessional. Priorities: I get that takeout is popular, but if the restaurant is packed, maybe don't prioritize getting to-go/pick-up orders out the fastest, when you have customers waiting 45mins to an hour to get served a roll or brought the drink/silverware they had to flag a server down for. Tell your pick orders accurate wait times and prioritize those that are actually there. * I must note, this is why I typically choose to call and place an order to go, because at least I know it'll be prompt because they don't care about people actually in the restaurant getting served quickly. I'd much prefer to dine in and have a dine in experience, but because of the above and managements lack of doing anything about it, I figure if you can't beat 'em, join em, and order take out*. It's not like the food is amazing consistently anymore. 50/50 chance it will be amazing or inedible. The thrill of "finding out which on I'll get this time?!" is gone. Cocoro used to be THE sushi spot. Professional, well run and organized, friendly , consistently delicious and high quality food. It's sad to see how down-hill it's gone and I'm done giving it chance after chance, and done recommending it to clients as the go-to sushi spot in town. read more

I hate to leave this review but we had the worst service ever last night at Cocoro. We were seated after 40 mins, which was fine, because it was busy. We ordered appetizers and Sushi. It literally took 45 minutes to get just our appetizers! We asked about the delay and the waiter said "they ran out of rice"! That's like Starbucks running out of coffee. We allowed 1-1/2 hours for dinner before our show and ended up being 20 mins late! Ugh! read more

We were so glad Cocoro has reopened after shutting down during C19. We were surprised that it has a new owner so naturally we were hopeful the food would be on par. We tried Cocoro for lunch dining outside. Good size menu and our server Annie was awesome. I had the Klondike Roll which was delicious and looked good plated. My husband is a fish lover and was very impressed with the thick slices of fresh fish in the Combination Sushi he had. He said it was the best value sushi meals he has had in a while. This review is long overdue. I went during a busy night before Christmas 2022 and bought a gift card in cash to gift to a relative. That relative told me they tried using the gift card, after eating here, and they were told that there was nothing on the card. I went by, told them what happened, and even showed them the receipt that I was given. The manager didn't believe me and told me I was supposed to have two receipts. The manager also told me that the employee that gave me the gift card was "let go" a while ago. The manager refused to compensate me. They robbed me and should've been held accountable for their employees mistake. read more

Absolutely horrible service, the hostess told us that it would be a 10 minute wait for 2 people and 50 minutes later we finally get sat. She sat multiples parties that arrived after us before she sat us. Not sure why a party of 3 can get sat immediately but a party of 2 have to wait 50 minutes. If it's going to be 50 minutes than be transparent about that, don't tell customers 10 minutes and proceed to have them wait WAY LONGER than anticipated while still seating bigger parties. Really disappointed and won't be coming back, not worth the 50 minute wait. read more

My husband and I have walked by multiple times and have always said we're going to go. Tonight we finally did and it did not disappoint! He had a beer and I had a cocktail. We had the spring rolls and gyoza for appetizers and they were both amazing, especially the spring rolls. My husband had the spicy tuna roll and fried Philadelphia roll. Didn't give me a chance to answer her or asked if she can get our server. There were customers around that had heard her rude loud voice and turned their head and looked at us shocked. Absolutely love CoCoro. Every time I go I always get the Sesame Chicken or if I'm feeling like sushi, the "Oh wow" is my go to roll. Great chefs behind the bar and in the kitchen and not to mention the bar cocktails are amazing. Servers are always checking up on me to make sure I'm doin good or if I need anything. Cocoro is pretty much one of the best sushi restaurants in stockton. Granted that if you go to another city, you'll probably find a sushi restaurant that may be a lot better. Either way, cocoro is not bad! When I got I like getting the combination with the teriyaki salmon or the teriyaki chicken. The last time I went, I had their rainbow roll and hotate (scallop) sushi. The rainbow roll is pretty good even though I think they put a little too much rice and the hotate was solid. Huge fan of the food here--I always get the Ramen and Chicken Karaage. I come here often with my boyfriend since the food has always been consistent. The soup is definitely some of the best in town! However, the reason I can't give a perfect 5-star review is because service can be slow since they're understaffed, and for some reason, the dining room tends to get smoky which can be kind of a nuisance.
