We loved our dinner here so much we went back for breakfast! Cody's was suggested by a local. The salad I got was excellent - it had tons of fresh garden veggies in it. The server was AWESOME. When my husband was worried the fries were not going to be enough for him, server brought more without us even asking. My husband's turkey club had real turkey, not deli meat. For dessert, my husband got apple pie a la mode. The scoop of ice cream they gave him was huge! The pie was warm and he loved it. We were not expecting the food to be this good in a diner type place. Now for the bad news: Went back for breakfast. My daughter did not even eat her hash browns. They had no flavor, were soft and soggy inside, crispy on outside. Barely warm. My veggie omelet was simply some chopped veg folded into egg whites. The veg was not cooked into the omelet. My daughter's waffle was not warm enough to melt the butter she put on it. Eww. But they do serve Peet's coffee, so that's something. I would give breakfast a skip. read more

Found this spot through the app while traveling to LA. The service was impeccable, staff was friendly and very attentive. I order one of their Saturday specials, a ham, bacon, cheese scramble, with the yummie cottage fries and the best blueberry muffin I have ever tasted it was warmed and full of berries! I arrived at this place and asked to sit in a particular spot and they wouldn't let me. They made me sit outside knowing that I'm a homeless student. I didn't object however. They were really unfriendly to me. I may be homeless but I'm in school and I just finished working out and had a shower. In other words, I don't look homeless. Then they made me wait a while to take my order and the restaurant wasn't busy. After I ordered, the scramble that I ordered was awful. It hardly had any vegetables in it and the fruit was mooshy. I ended eating it because I was hungry. The entire time my server was condescending. It felt as if she already knew who I was in the first place and that's why I was being treated in this manner. We were so pleased that Cody is open for business with outdoor seating. The food was hot when served, very tasty and enjoyable. My only complained was the service, we felt maybe we were the forgotten table ? I do realize that perhaps some service personell was missing. Our first time eating at Cody's even though we have lived in Santa Barbara for the last 20+ years. Because of COVID-19, we only patronize restaurants with outdoor dining. Felt safe at Cody's because there's plenty of outdoor tables with large umbrellas for sun protection. We both ordered the classic Eggs Benedict (choice of hash browns, fruit or potatoes) and it was delicious. Scarfed everything on the plate. Will now include Cody's on our list of rotating restaurants to patronize. Also, they serve cocktails which is always a plus. read more

Went to Cody's today with my family. They were clearly understaffed. So the wait to get order taken was expected. Also was not expecting the happiest waitress, given the lunch rush. However food came cold, food tasted as if it had been fried in old oil. After eating hardly anything fast forward 3 hours later all our stomachs violently rejected what lil food was consumed. I like eating outside and really like Cody's table options. But very disappointed with the food and service. I had spinach feta scramble for breakfast. It was fairly tasteless and the overcooked eggs didn't help. It came with hash browns; I asked for them to be well cooked and crispy. There may have been a few well done spots but the rather white pasty interior with again no taste was very disappointing. I asked for ketchup and Tabasco. After a wait with the food getting cold I went inside and asked again. A server handed me Tabasco but said the ketchup would be coming out. Fortunately I saw empty tables with bottles on them so I grabbed one. No one ever came out with one. Getting coffee refills was a non starter- I went inside once and a server came out but no coffee came after that. Too bad because I like the outside layout, but there will be no more money layout in the near future. read more

This is our go to place for breakfast in the Santa Barbara area. Get here early! When it comes to choices, the crab Benedict is amazing. Plenty of seating inside and if it is nice the outdoor seating is a great option! At the time of this posting, they are closed for dinner. We hope that changes soon. read more

I'm a regular at Cody's. It's best for breakfast, although they have a very delicious reuben- probably one of the best around. It doesn't have the kind of fancy vibe as some other brunch places in Santa Barbara, but it's casual, friendly, and delicious food. I typically get one of the scrambles- the Eric's, Nick's, and Pasilla are my favorite. They aren't greasy, and you can easily swap egg white or egg beaters. The portions are generous, the cottage fries and hash browns are quite good. We've never had bad service. Occasionally it's been slow because it gets so busy, but the staff is aware and will generally take something off the bill. It's super dog friendly- after all, "Cody" is a dog. His photo is near the entrance. Next to each of the tables outside is a metal loop that they installed to attach dog leashes to. They have milkbones and bowls of water on hand. The prices are completely reasonable (another reason to skip some of the snooty places downtown in favor of this place), the coffee is good and bottomless, and overall a great way to start any day or weekend. read more

Still my favorite breakfast spot. We come here almost every Saturday. Food is still good obviously, it isn't super consistent, which is fine to me because this isn't a corporate place where everything is made in pre portioned plastic bags. It's a locally owned and run. I will say I'm sad they got rid of the cornbread. It was DELICIOUS. They replaced it with a corn muffin? You'd think they would be similar but aren't. It's okay, but I don't see why they would get replace something good with something bleh. But that's just one opinion. The reason for the star drop is something's happened with the service. We had some great servers in the past who were very friendly, kept our coffee and water filled. Lately it's been a little sluggish. Many of the servers seem nowhere to be found which is confusing in such a big open restaurant. There used to be guys walking around checking every table for coffee refills and now getting more coffee or water seems almost impossible at times. I do want to point out though that all the servers are still very friendly, and there's one in particular that my whole family said had been the best server we had there in a loooong time. The day my friend and I ate here, we were by far the youngest people other than the grandkids with their grandparents. And, actually, in memories of all those times I ate out with my near-geriatric sister-in-law and prematurely aged brother at Luby's or Furr's in Texas, it was kind of pleasing in a nostalgic kind of way. What was surprising: yes, they have chicken fried steak. My friend, another Texan in California exile, nearly jumped for joy. Ok, so it wasn't as good as chicken fried steak in the south, it was chicken fried steak. They had liver and onions on the menu (now that's a southern treat if ever there was one). Surprisingly, they had lamb shanks, which I ordered. They were a bit dry, and the mint jelly was more like mint jello, but it was novel. The menu is wonderfully varied, with diner favorites, but I wish the food was as good as the menu. You can't have everything, I guess. They did have both Newcastle and Firestone for less than four dollars a glass. Amazing, that in Santa Barbara, you could actually find such a price on booze. It gets all the points for atmosphere, the good menu and cheap booze. We had our little dog with us on a trip through Santa Barbara, and I searched online for a dog-friendly restaurant. Cody's Cafe came up, and had some good reviews, so we gave it a try. We arrived Sunday morning, no reservations, and the place was pretty packed, but they quickly accommodated us on the patio with our dog. The eggs and sausage/bacon were fine--restaurants really shouldn't be able to mess that dish up (although some find a way). The coffee was fine, orange juice was obviously fresh-squeezed and good, and the hot coco was served in a large mug with a big cap of whipped cream. The french toast was just meh, but their PANCAKES were awesome! The regular pancakes and the banana pancakes with walnuts were just wonderful. This is my first time leaving a yelp review, but Cody's had such overwhelmingly poor service that I felt obligated to post something. First of all, we had a 20 minute wait for a table for four. When we were finally seated, there were empty tables and booths, and we were seated at a table. When we asked if we could have a booth instead, we were rudely told that no, that was too much of an inconvenience. When we were ready to order we sat with our menus closed for another 10 minutes before our order was taken. Then, the real wait began. We watched everyone around us, who had arrived after us, be served their food. We finally asked and were told that the tickets were not taken by the kitchen in the order that they were delivered and that they were prepared "randomly." 45 minutes (and several conversations with the manager) later, our food arrived. Most of the food was good, but I had the Fairfax Benedict, and evidently the chef had no idea how to poach an egg. The white was dissolving off of the yolk, which was still cold and mixed with the hollandaise. Another person in our group ordered sausage, a piece of which was burnt to a crisp. However, a different waitress served us our food, and she was very pleasant and is the only reason why I am giving Cody's two stars instead of one. When we finished our meal, I was expecting some kind of discount, but no. The waitress delivered our checks and we had all been charged full price. I called the manager over again, and he had one person's meal removed. Despite the poor experience, I must say that the manager was very responsive to our concerns, and did keep a close eye on the kitchen after we alerted him to our problems. Nonetheless, unless I am looking for an opportunity to argue with incompetent servers and employees, I will not be returning to Cody's. You would be wise to do the same. read more

Excellent eatery. Came here for breakfast before saying adieu to my boyfriends cousin who graduated from UCSB. Staff is very friendly and on top of their service. Coffee came frequently as did water as did the server. I had the California Cafe Benedict: poached eggs, avocado and tomato on an English muffin,covered with hollandaise sauce with the 'cottage fries' ( cubed potatoes). My boyfriend had the "classic breakfast" which he chose the two eggs his way, sausage, cottage fries, and cornbread with a side order of the short stack. All of it was delicious. This is a good place to bring the fam for breakfast. It's got a big parking lot to accommodate the RV or minivan, and comfortable booths inside. You'll be in good company of big portions and you can proudly wear your polyster pants or velour track suits! Codys reminds me of golf and golden retrievers. I was staying in the area for a wedding, and my friends and I were looking for a place to grab breakfast before getting ready, and this was the first place we noticed. We were seated fairly quickly, considering how busy they were. They had a great variety on their menu, and our server was really nice and friendly. Most popular during brunch time on the weekends, you might have to wait a bit to be seated, but it'll be worth it. This is your one-stop shop for comfort foods like pancakes, waffles, or omelettes. I highly recommend the chile verde omelette w/ hash browns. It's my usual go-to dish. It even comes w/ a side of fresh and hot cornbread that rounds out the meal perfectly. This is as close as I'm going to get to my beloved Jersey diner Sunday morning brunch. Very nice looking restaurant with great service (a diner is judged 50% on the frequency with which your coffee is refilled), and the standard brunch-type dishes are spot-on. One thing they do very well is their Huevos Rancheros - a dish new to me since moving to CA, and the biscuits are damn good. Why not 5 stars? WHY: I don't usually write reviews for a place if I have only been there once. But I have been to Cody's for breakfast plenty of times. So here is my review and I will share some of my favorites . FOOD: Corn Beef Hash: one of my favorite, the beef is tender and has a bit of sweetness. Country Fried Steak: super crunchy on the outside, and very nicely cooked on the inside. The gravy on top doesn't make it soggy, which is nice. PLEASE ask for the BLUE BERRY MUFFIN. I love the muffin, it has a buttery taste that your mouth will just LOVE! HAM: I had it once, but I felt it was a bit too salty for my taste, and I can almost taste the chemicals and other preservatives. :( OVERALL: generous amount of food for a decent price. HI WHAT, CODYS BY FAR HAS HAS THE BEST CORNED BEEF HASH IN SANTA BARBARA. This is my favorite place to go to breakfast, although lunch and dinner are great here as well. Busy during weekend mornings (as every breakfast place is in Santa Barbara) its well worth the wait, especially if you get served my Claudia Medina. She is so kind, and so welcoming, and will always get your order right, not to mention the fact she will get your food out to you ASAP. We were hoping this would be a carbon copy of the Mesa Cafe, but it's not. First of all, it gets three stars because most of the staff were very friendly. Our waiter was nice, but certainly all business. Our breakfast was okay, but not great. The portion size I received with the corned beef hash was much larger than my husband's chorizo scramble. A popular local spot. Standard breakfast fare. I had been seated for 5 minutes and mentioned to the gentleman that brought my water that I was ready to order. He responded that my server would be right over. A server came over to the table next to me to take their order, I made eye contact with him as he was leaving and mentioned to him that I was ready to order. He stated that he was not my server and he would tell my server I was ready. Moments later from about 35 feet away I heard a loud voice say "is he in a hurry or what!?" The server who at first said he could not serve me came back and said that my waitress was busy doing other things besides waiting tables and that he would take my order. The main purpose of this review is in hopes that Cody's will read it and ask their staff not to make comments about customers that are loud enough to be heard 35 feet away. The server that made the comment never did come interface with me and all my experiences with people that served that day were great, they were very polite and the food was good. I decided to give them 5-star review simply because they don't pretend to be something they are not. They are what they are: your good ol' neighborhood Cheers diner. Food is good, inexpensive, affordable, hearty servings, drinks are decent, and their service has improved a great deal!
