Affordable, good place for comfort food. Cody's has been here for nearly 30 years. I see it as a fixture of 'Noleta.' I have memories of waiting in line on Sunday mornings as a child for breakfast. The morning wait is still prevalent but I see that as an honest testament to this restaurant's reputation. This is a fast-paced restaurant with a lot of kitchen commotion and loud chatter from the customers at tables, clinking dishes and all. A true diner experience. I really love it, very Americana. This place is good for a solid cup of coffee and a hearty meal from their vast menu. There are usually specials written on the front room board, and they are always tasty. The pricing is very reasonable for Santa Barbara, too. My only minor gripe is the payment system. Cody's is very old school in that the bill is handed to you but the money is tendered at the front host bar. This little room is small and packed, and can get a bit confusing with the rush of patrons walking in and out. This is how it's always been, and I don't really mind the small quirk. This place is delicious! Which is by on the weekends it gets very crowded. I got the pot roast which is mouth watering. They have such delicious blueberry muffins as well. They have really good service, however during the weekend when it gets crowded they kind of panic. This past Saturday when I went in I waited for drinks for about 10 min and had three different waiters ask me what I wanted to drink. And we had to constantly ask for cream for our coffee and they had forgotten to give us our muffins. I also really liked that they allow a man to come in and sell flowers. The flowers were so pretty. And I noticed many tables other than ours also bought flowers. This is a place you need to try but just be prepared for long waits if you go during the weekend. read more

Cody's cafe was my favorite restaurant for many many years. The place I would stop at, even when I didn't live nearby for their delicious Popeye's omelet made with egg whites and served with their handmade blueberry muffin. Always consistent food, great service and a fun environment. I have now tried Cody's several times over the past few months in the hopes that I could find the consistency it held for many years. The food is still good. But the staffing shortage is quite pronounced. I arrived at 11:00 am on a weekday when the rush had yet to arrive. My food arrived around 12:30 and I was dining alone. While the restaurant has expanded and has indoor and outdoor seating, there hasn't been an increase in wait staff. I saw two cooks in the kitchen for the plethora of clientele. I really hope Cody's can turn this around. This restaurant was named after the owner's dog. Who doesn't appreciate that level of dedication? Cody's has good food. I used to really like the place, not for being great but for being dependable and consistent. Went there for breakfast, it was served quite a bit different from what i ordered, and nearly cold. The cheese in the omelet was in chunks and not melted. The potatoes were cold. Service seemed disorganized, with a new face each time. I used to enjoy the place. Thee last couple of times, less so. Excellent! 5 stars on service, 5 stars on food. Came for breakfast on this misty Saturday morning, and this place was hopping. We were seated quickly. Angel was our server, and he was on it, very polite and hard working. I ordered an omelette, they were happy to add spinach, mushrooms, onions, green peppers, jack cheese and zucchini. Vegetables weren't cooked to oblivion the way some places do, these vegetables were nice and crisp tender. Also had the hash browns and English muffin. My husband had the huevos rancheros with chile verde, and a bloody Mary. The service was prompt, food came out quickly and was served piping hot, everything was done to perfection. Best breakfast in the Santa Barbara / Goleta area. We've been here multiple times, and the food and service is always on par. Nice to support a local business. Great service, great food!! Fantastic comfort food and excellent service. Casual, cafe atmosphere. The patio seating is especially nice. Frequented by locals, but worth the visit if you are visiting. Went to Cody's on a Thursday around 9am based off of a friends recommendation. Love the service. Not a fan of the food. We ordered scrambled eggs, fruit, toast, sausage & a parfait. I enjoyed the eggs but that's it. The fruit was hard and not sweet. The toast was very hard and not fully buttered & the strawberry jam was liquid. Cody's is a great destination for ether breakfast or lunch! I always come for breakfast and I occasionally do a burger. The pasta is so so and that also serve alcoholic beverages if that tickles your fancy. I like that you can see directly into the kitchen space where the gentleman are hard at work. The staff is always very quick to seat you and take your order and knowledgeable about the menu. The decor is pretty cool and gives you something to converse about while eating your meal pretty cool to see surfboards hanging while you eat hah. Over all I would recommend Cody's to anyone looking to try something new. If you like Eggs Benedict's with some avocado then try out the California Benedict's you would be disappointed!!! read more

I'm really appalled by the treatment I've received at Cody's Cafe. This place is supposedly dog friendly, so I decided to bring my dog here. I come in and ask them for a table outside and because they didn't want to accommodate, they told me that no one was going to set up the table and chairs outside for me to sit at. I've already reviewed this place before and wanted to give it a second chance, but I probably won't ever come here again, nor would I recommend anyone who has a dog to come here. I've never felt more disappointed in a restaurant, and that's saying a lot. Thank you, man in the front, for NOT being accommodating or really being sincere with your apology. Cody's is a typical greasy spoon type diner-esque spot. Nothing in particular stood out except for the ridiculously large, but oh so tasty slab of cornbread. It was pretty crowded on Black Friday, post-lunch rush (maybe 1:30 or so), so I guess that speaks well of the joint. Nice enough hostess and server-very to the point but efficient. I had an omelette with feta, spinach and tomatoes-they were kind enough to grant my ridiculous request of "egg whites" only. It comes with hash browns (cooked crispy and perfect!) as well as your choice of bread (it gets fun here because choices include a blueberry muffin, several types of toast, english muffin or the new love of my life, their cornbread.) Our food arrived fast, which was great, because we had a lot on our itinerary that day. One tiny complaint is that the eggs were a little more oily than I would have preferred. I mean it's not like we sought this place out as the epitomy of healthy eating, but a little less greasy would have been preferred just from a taste perspective. Love this cafe!! Came for a graduation and was welcomed by Antonio the manager and waitress Karely! We called & made reservations thinking it was going to be crowed and we were 10 deep! We got sets right away! Great customer service! The waitress was amazing & really helped to make the night fun :). She even taught my god bothers & I how to take a shot (Mexican style).. After a good night of drinking, a group of 20 came to Cody's to chow down to fill our bellies with goodness that may or may have not been filled with alcohol the night before. The restaurant was nice to accommodate the large group and updated us on how much longer it would be for the table to be ready. The staff was extremely kind and helpful on suggestions if someone was indecisive. I don't remember what I ordered, but it was amazing. We have been going there since they open in 1995 it was sold and Sean was no longer there it started going downhill so we stopped going there,decided to try it for Mother's Day ,had a Chili Relleno plate that was there Mother's Day special .The waitress said it was great when it came it had hamburger meat and frozen corn and carrots in it with an orange sauce no cheese the hamburger meat taste bad ordered a bacon and avocado omelette the omelette came with cold cheese another plate had two hairs on it the waitress never came back to our table or any other staff no refilled for our waters or coffee didn't bring the tortillas and when we complain about the hairs on the plate she said well we could only take half the price off one plate ? This place is more like 3.5 stars. I would say this place is comparable to an upscale Denny's. I just didn't really experience a wow factor with the overall food otherwise I would rate it higher. Food: classic egg benedict with avacado. The food is average, but service is fast and friendly. I love eggs, and would pretty much eat them any style. They made ours over medium, more on the well side so it wasn't runny. The hollandaise sauce was like gravy and did compliment the eggs well. Its aldo served with fruits, hashbrowns or a side or salad. For the value and portion size that you get here, I would say it's worth it. Went to Cody's on 5/30 for brunch. Got there at 11:30, we were seated around 11:45. They were busy but not insanely busy. There were plenty of open tables. We were seated outside and the server took our order rather quickly. However, our food took --no exaggeration here-- an entire hour to come out. People sitting around us received their food and finished their entire meal and left before we got our food. We did not order anything crazy -- both of us got eggs Benedict. People who were seated after we had already ordered received their food before us. We were told multiple times that our food was almost ready and still had to wait another 15 minutes for it to come out. We ended up having to take our food to go because we simply did not have enough time to actually eat the food we ordered. Honestly the worst experience I have ever had dining out and they did not offer any sort of discount or anything for wasting over an hour of our time. If I were the manager and something like this happened, I would have comped the entire meal. We will not be returning here. read more

So to continue our quest of trying every restaurant in Santa Barbara, we ended up at Cody's. We have been here several times because it is so consistent in it's service and quality of food. It is what you expect when you think of diner. It's fast, loud, and serves a great breakfast any time of day. I thought I would try something different, so I tried their "Cafe Favorites", Hot Turkey. The turkey is moist and seems like it is carved right off the bird. Big thick slices, it's a lot of food. The vegetables were cooked to the right tenderness, but a little too much butter for me. Good to dip bread in though. The potatoes were a little too cool for mashed potatoes. It is great comfort food. The Punk stuck to breakfast, scrambled eggs, sausage, and pancakes. She ate it all and didn't share, so I'm guessing it was good. She said she, "didn't like the air." She says she will go back if she can wear leggings. I suppose she was a little cold. We have been going here for several years and you always see the same people working there, so you know management is doing something right. I have once called in after breakfast hours to ask if any chefs would be abe to make me an Eggs Benedict, and indeed they did :) Their service is fast and good. Only thing is they are inconsistent with their bar drinks depending on who is working. The tequila sunrise should come in a huge wine-shaped glass not the standard sized cups. Open Tri-Tip Sandwich was also very good. The Decour reminds me of a hometown buffet & their food is a level up from a Denny's. The pancakes were good which my hubby said he will go back for that. My dad ordered the Lorraine scrambled and mom ordered the turkey burger. We live right around the corner from Cody's. We eat at Cody's very frequently. We are sad to hear that it is temporarily closed because of the coronavirus. Thank you Cody's for your friendly service to us always! The staff is always very friendly and accommodating. My husband and I often get the same thing that we always order. He gets the turkey burger with roasted jalapeños, no bun and extra salad to replace his french fries. I get the chicken tostada salad. But I love the fried chicken, have often gotten the steak, my grandson used to love coming when he could get pancakes anytime of the day or night.
