My friends convinced me to try it out...like many, all I've ever seen were a bunch of older men (might be retirees) sitting around so I thought it was another one of those Coffee Houses in Bolsa. I remembered it was old looking back then but heard they were closed and reopen after remodeling. I decided to try it out since she was raving about it. We came on a Saturday and it was lunch time. The crowd that sat outside had no food, just a ton of coffees on all of the tables. Luckily it was pretty empty inside. We sat down right away and the waitress came back with menus and asked what we wanted. Wait, I just sat down, can I please get a minute to find the drinks on the menu! DRINKS: 01. Cafe Latte $3.50 - 3 Stars - It was good, stronger than most. Not bitter at all. 02. Passion Fruit Mango Infused Tea $5.00 - 1 Star - NOT worth the money when it's watery and had no tropical flavor at all. Watered down Tea was all it was. 03. Vietnamese Lime Soda $3.25 - 1 Star - Weak like the tea, I guess they only do good COFFEES. FOOD: 01. After watching Strictly Dumpling's aka Mike Chen's video of Vietnamese breakfast street food tour of Saigon, VN on YouTube a couple of days ago, it made my mouth water and reminisce the foods at Coffee Factory. It's been awhile since I had a nice Vietnamese breakfast/brunch and thanks to some friends in OC for taking us here on NYE. Coffee Factory is a Vietnamese French restaurant. It is very spacious and is a great place for large groups. You'll see the OGs smoking and drinking coffee out in the front outdoor seating. This place reminds me of those young days where my parents would cook breakfast with sunnyside up eggs (opla) and use maggie sauce. Those were the days! No way I can eat like that anymore, but once in awhile would be nice. But here at Coffee Factory you'll find the basic viet breakfast items like banh mi, pho, com tam, bun, bo ne, eggs with baguette(s) and of course vietnamese coffee (cafe sua da). And then you have the french side with the opla and pate dishes. There aren't too many places like this that I know of, maybe not in the Bay Area, but I find this to be a hidden gem. It gives you that nostalgia feeling if you've ever been to Vietnam. It kinda feels like you're actually in VN. It's kinda hard to explain; it's just a feeling that I got when I was there. The food was good. Everything was simple and easy but yet still so good. Pate was also really good. I don't know too many places that just serve a plate of assorted pate (assiette pate) so it was a nice to see it separate from the banh mi and spread some on your own slice of baguette. I was so disappointed when I opened the container of Bo Kho. My mom bought them for us today thinking we could have a good meal but NO, the food was extremely flavorless. It tasted like beef broth with extra water. They put way too much water and I have never seen Bo Kho anywhere else with the paste that watery.
