Coin-Op has easily become one of my favorite places to stop after work. If I'm being completely honest, the spinach & artichoke dip is the only food we consistently come back for--but the real reason we keep coming back is the staff. Every Thursday after I get off work on K Street, everyone makes us feel genuinely welcome. Elijah, Georgio, Ryan, and Asra are all amazing. They remember our usual orders, take the time to have real conversations with us, and always make us feel like valued regulars instead of just another table. I also want to give a special shoutout to the gentleman working security on Thursday nights. Every single time I come in, he greets me with a smile and says "welcome back." He always checks our bags, and as someone who works downtown and sees firsthand some of the things happening around Sacramento, I genuinely appreciate that they take safety seriously. I've visited Coin-Op Game Room on and off over the past couple of years, and overall, I think it's a solid concept that they execute pretty well. There aren't many bars around that combine drinks with classic arcade games, so it's refreshing to have a place where you can do both in one spot. They have a great variety of games to choose from--everything from classic fighting games and Pac-Man to Guitar Hero and pinball. I also really love the extras like the photo booth and air hockey, which add to the fun and make it easy to spend more time there with friends. It's strictly 21+ (not a bar and grill situation), which is honestly a plus--no kids running around. You do have to head down a set of stairs to get inside, so just be mindful if you're wearing heels. There's also a security check at the entrance where they verify IDs before letting you in. The place is almost always packed, especially on weekends. Because of that, I usually don't stay too long when it's crowded since it can start to feel a bit claustrophobic. Drinks are reasonably priced and taste fine--no real complaints there--but when it's busy, you definitely have to squeeze your way in to catch a bartender's attention. I've never had a bad experience here when going with friends, and it's generally a fun time in a group. That said, I'm not sure how enjoyable it would be if you were solo drinking, as the vibe really leans toward social, high-energy hangouts. A bright, high sensory (almost too loud) experience that is spacious, friendly vibes, that includes pool tables, along with old and new arcade games. I'm absolutely not a fan of being charged tax for my drink. I've not been charged tax in other bar/food places, but it's just something to know for future. The chicken wings are way overpriced: $20 for twelve wings. There are happy hour specials Tuesday to Friday from 5-7pm, including 1/2 off "food sharables" (what?). If money is no object since you'll definitely be also paying for parking, you might enjoy this place as a laid back spot to hang by yourself, with a friend, or maybe a date. read more

Coin-op is such a fun place to check out in downtown Sac. I love the retro, arcade style video games. The air hockey tables are super fun, and the darts. I also love playing the pinball machine. There's a Photo Booth too! Jenga outside with a couple of claw machines! Bring lots of quarters but there's a machine that exchanges dollar bills to change. Seemed to be only one bartender and he didn't seem to want to be there. We waited at the bar for about 10 min before we were asked if we needed anything'. Coin-Op is such a fun bar downtown to go to on a night out. The bar is lined around with retro games including air hockey, skeeball, and all kinds of video games. Some days it's very laid back and you can sit inside or outside with a group of friends and other nights it gets very packed! The drinks are good and their food is too. The pizza and pretzel bites have yet to disappoint. The workers are super cool and friendly. Came here recently to celebrate a birthday with a small group and we got to enjoy the games and take a picture in their photo booth. Definitely recommend as a stop in a bar crawl or for a night out with your friends if you love a more upbeat atmosphere. read more

My second time here. First time was in 2019. Then they had a lot more arcade games but it was mostly 80s games like galaga and Pac-Man. Now. They have severely less games but slightly more modern. 2 Mario kart, 2 fastnfurious, 2 of those sitting rail shooters, time crisis, terminator, mvc, mk, sf2, 4 pinball. Pros: there's a decent variety and it's cheapish. Most games are 50 cents. Some are $1 Cons: they are not being cared for. They need to be looked at. Super loose controls on racing and fighting games. Time crisis sensor is off. Also they have guitar hero and a step mania but it has no sounds. That kills the vibe of the game. --- Arcade aside. Bartenders were amazing and make great drinks. Food was decent. Pizza a little sloppy/drippy but fresh and delicious. Dj wasn't bad. Kinda sucked he had a set playlist and no requests. read more

Im sorry but this visit was terrible. It was so hot on this free play day. There was no signage up for those visiting for the first time so people were getting change in the machines. The pool tables didn't have all the balloons enough pool sticks to accommodate multiple players. I was drenched and it felt muggy as soon as I entered the bldg. We stopped here after leaving a bar in the same area. It's 21 + and they check purses and IDs before entering. It was a Saturday night so it was fairly busy but it was easy to order a drink and play the games you wanted. We put in $20 for quarters and had enough to play for about an hour for a group of 4. The prices of games seemed to be $1/each. The bartenders were friendly and even offered a free shot to a birthday guy in our group. Came here for a work event so I didn't get a chance to take many pictures of the food. The service was fast and the drinks are cute. I got a peach something, I forgot what it was called. It looks cute and tastes ok. Glad it wasn't too sweet but the peach flavor was subtle, barely there. Wish it tasted a little more peachy. My friend ordered a margherita pizza with cauliflower crust with no cheese since she's vegan and it came out with no tomatoes and no basil either. Just a round bread with dried seasoning. Luckily, it wasn't bad. We also ordered some wings. Dry rub tasted like curry and way too much rub on the wings. Lemon pepper wings were extra salty but the Buffalo wings were the only ones edible without having to remove all the seasoning off. Cool place to check out when you're downtown. They've got a mix of newer and classic games, and I appreciate that most of the classic games still cost a quarter! They've got a standard bar menu (beers on tap, some specialty cocktails) and their food is decent. They've got some good happy hour specials, too! A couple tips: - Bring cash if you've got it. They have several change machines, but it's better to skip using their ATM and incurring fees. - No outside drinks are allowed at all. I usually carry a Nalgene with me everywhere. I was stopped outside when checking IDs because it was half full of water. I went to go pour the water out and they said it couldn't come inside, even when empty. Buttons on a good number of games didn't work properly.
