    Closed early. So annoying!

Just leaving cold stone! I won't be back! They are very unprofessional and decided to close at 9:45 PM when it clearly states on their website and on Google that they close at 10 PM... Nonetheless, 9:45 PM as a random time to close. See attached photos! Make sure you call before you head over... If you even want to head over because I see they have an average rating under two stars lol I know why... Save your money, your time and your calories go somewhere else! UPDATE: Went to Handels Ice Cream.... short drive down the road, they stay open and really friendly staff! Yayyyyy

Service threw me off, 1st time visiting cold stone, as a first timer I clearly don't know what flavors they carry. I wanted to see for a minute... not even 1 minute passed since I got asked again if I was ready to order. BOTH (blonde and blue headed) employees made me and my friends feel rushed we decided to walk out and walk across the street to Handles Ice cream shop instead. Won't be coming back to cold stone. DATE Visited || 01-25-24 TIME || around 8:45 PM.

    And dirty...

Dark and dirty. If I'm paying $18 for a few ice creams, I'd expect slightly better conditions. The inside of the glass of the ice cream case looks like it hasn't been cleaned in months and the hanging lights (all off) above the counter have a thick layer of dust on them. If they can't take care of the easy stuff, how are they doing with the stuff we can't see? Add to that like half the ceiling lights seem to be out, and this was easily the most depressing Cold Stone

Going to stone cold was great. The owner let us photographers explore the stone explain how they make the ice cream and clean their station to serve the customer. Lastly, give us a cone and the best ice cream I ever had in Oceanside.

Terrible service. Line 8 deep, staff of 2 on a Tuesday eve; one not serving customers at all, the other trying hard not to. Give it a pass.

I would happily make questionable life decisions for another scoop of it. But honestly, what made this experience stand out wasn't just the gelato--it was Venezia. Huge shoutout to her for being so patient while we stood there completely incapable of making a decision. Instead of rushing us, she took the time to help us figure out what flavors we actually wanted and gave us recommendations that absolutely did not miss. She was incredibly sweet, genuinely welcoming, and made the whole experience so much better. And listen, this place is about an hour drive for me. An HOUR. Yet I'm already planning my return trip because the quality of the gelato and the service made it 100% worth it. If you're anywhere near this place, do yourself a favor and stop by. The gelato is ridiculously creamy, packed with flavor, and made with the kind of quality you can taste immediately. Dare I say it... the creaminess might even be better than An's Gelato . 10/10. Came for the gelato, left wanting to be friends with Venezia

So, whaddaya do in Oceanside (aka: "O'side", to me at least), after a nice lunch with a Yelp Friend…read moreyou met in person for the first time? Ya knock around on the O'side Beach, making your way slowly toward the famous Oceanside Pier, THAT'S what ya do. I absolutely love The O'side Pier, and try to make time for a trip there, anytime I'm in Escondido. It doesn't make it more difficult that it's the closest place to get to the Pacific, driving from E-town. Google up The Oceanside Pier; it's got quite a history. Ya know how they say: "There's always room for Jell-o"? Well, the same could be said for Italian Ice. Similar to Ice Cream, it contains NO Dairy (in case you're lactose-intolerant), and is simply DELICIOUS! You're not "delicious-intolerant", are ya? Which brings me to Skweezrz New York Italian Ices. "Italian Ice Joe" is set up right at the base of the ramp you walk up, to get onto The Pier itself. Great location; even greater fare. Joe's a really cool guy; I hung around long enough to see how great and easy he is with people of all kinds, be it kids, surfers, the ladies, or that annoying guy that talks your ear off, and just won't LEAVE (uh, that'd be...me). He offers every passer-by a free sample, and I warn ya; if you sample, you WILL buy! Of course, Joe offered me a "free one" (no not "that" kind). Sadly, he was out of my favorite fruit flavor (Cherry), so I had to "settle" for Strawberry; it sure didn't feel like settling. I may eat more Ice Cream than Italian Ice (as a general rule), but I really don't know why. The flavor was AMAZING! Couple that with the fact that it's gotta be lower in calories (something I could do with less of), and has a MUCH fresher finish. Compared to Ice Cream (or even frozen Yogurt), it's a way healthier choice. And it seems to quench your thirst, at the same time it's soothing your mouth with sweet, fruity coolness. Joe's got every flavor under the Sun (tho there was no Sun itself today); all the expected fruits, plus a chocolate flavor Joe sez tastes just like a Tootsie Roll. Or if ya can't decide, have him mix ya up a "Rainbow"; I can't remember if that's what he called it, but you get the idea (I posted a pic of one). Joe's got 'em ALL! It's NOT just getting a cup of frozen stuff; no, it's a whole "experience", it really is. The cool Italian Ice will soothe your mouth and cleanse your palette, and Joe's perpetual good mood is infectious. If you don't leave with a lighter spirit just by hangin' around the guy, you're a lost cause. The Italian Ice will cost ya (tho not very much at all); the uplifting spirit is FREE. If you're in Oceanside, you gotta take a trip to the O'side Pier. Take a walk all the way to the end and have a chat with the Pelicans, but don't get too close (they WILL attack, and I'm not kidding). And above all else, ya GOTTA stop by Skweezrz New York Italian Ice cart, say hi to Joe, and have a cup of frozen cheer. Tell him Larry sent ya! larrythediner .

Diablito Rica for just $5 and that includes; 3 scoops of mango ice, chamoy, tajin and a tamarindo stick, it was happiness in my mouth! I opted out one scoop of mango for Italian rainbow ice. They didn't skimp on the tajin and chamoy either and you can add the extras to any scoop(s) of Italian ice, if you don't like mango. If you ever find yourself in Oceanside on a hot day and are looking for a refreshing treat, try this place, I promise you won't be disappointed! I recall it being a delicious and a wonderful dining experience. I have been looking forward to bringing my family and friends here all week. I am giving this restaurant 3 stars, because their food is still AMAZING and their staff is super nice and I believe deep down inside that they just had a REALLY OFF night. We had reservations for a party of 9 last night. The table was set up nicely and accommodated a few extra if needed, which I thought was cool. We started with some adult beverages: an Old Fashion, some Hotel Nacionals, a Fashionably Late, and a couple of beers. Everything started great. Dennis, our server was very cool and friendly and gave great suggestions. We ordered the mac and cheese sides and they were delicious with huge pieces of savory bacon in them. We also ordered the brussel sprouts which we never received and didn't even realize it until the very end when we received the bill because of all the other issues we had... but we'll get to that in a moment. But let's talk about what did go well... the delicious food we did get. We ordered the Pig burger which was sooo good and came with crispy fries. The fish for the fish and chips were 2 huge pieces and were delicious, came with yummy seasoned waffle fries and the tiniest tartar sauce and malt vinegar. I had to request 4 more for that amount of fish, but no big deal. Dennis brought out as much as we needed. Their ranch sauce is really good too. Don't judge just because it's a little peachy'ish and looks thousand island'ish. lt's still some very good ranch. My son said he really tasted the bitterness of beer in the fish batter but maybe it was just in that piece he had; I could not taste it in the piece of fish I ate. The short rib was really tender and delicious... the sauce was just a tad salty for my taste, but the mashed potatoes it sat on sort of balanced it out a little. The fried chicken thighs were really cooked well, juicy, crispy and seasoned perfectly. We ordered two Teres Major steaks. One rare with mashed potaoes, one medium rare with grits. The rare one came out medium and without any mushrooms, took FOREVEEERR to remake (the rest of the table was almost done with our meals...& not sure why it took so long since the restaurant wasn't that busy and it's a RARE steak). The one with grits came with mashed potatoes instead of grits. Dennis was super nice and apologetic and corrected both mistakes when we let him know. He then brought us a big bowl of grits. The manager (blonde gal) came over and apologized for the mistakes tonight, letting us know that usually does not happen, and let us know she'd be comping one of our steaks and would be bringing a dessert on them. We thought that was very nice of them. However, as nice a gesture. we never did receive that dessert. My husband handed Dennis his credit card before the bill arrived (before our friends could try to pay the bill) and not sure why but our bill never came, and we never saw Dennis again either after he boxed up our leftovers and took the card. We had to ask another server for our bill because we had been waiting for quite a while... and needed to head out as we were already late to meet friends at a lounge. The other server came back with my husband's credit card, the bill (that's when I finally noticed the brussel sprouts sides we never got but were charged), and let the server know. He immediately apologized and took it off the bill. So I'm not sure what happened last night at Flying Pig...missing and charged brussel sprouts, steak overcooked, missing mushrooms, mashed potatoes instead of grits, then a comped dessert promised but never delivered. WOW. I had to apologize to my friends. I was totally hyping up this place and it underdelivered. They automatically got their 20% gratuity for our party of 9 but anyone that knows me knows how much I absolutely love great service combined with exceptional food and that could have easily been a 30-35% tip had they been on their A game! We only come to Oceanside once a year. Maybe we will try again next year. Maybe not. This trip was about trying out a bunch of different restaurants and giving honest reviews on dishes/businesses we haven't tried before, or in a long time. Do better guys.
