I wrote a review in October about the Cold Stone in Grossmont Center and how a rude worker almost ruined my son's 8th birthday. After that terrible experience my 8-year-old and his brother still wanted their ice cream. After telling my friend about my horrific experience at Grossmont, he recommended the Cold Stone off College. My sons and I went and boy was the experience a total 180. From the moment we walked in the door the we could tell the energy was different. The gentlemen behind the counter welcomed us with a smile. My son told them it was his birthday and they wished him a happy birthday and made him feel special. They prepared my son's ice cream and gave them a little something extra. I never told them about my Grossmont experience but they really turned around the evening. The boys were so excited about the different experience they asked if they could eat the ice cream right there instead of at home. I said yes and they were in heaven. My favorite has always been the banana caramel and pecan mix on their menu, can't remember the name at the moment lol. Recently I tried the mud pie mojo and it is divine. I was craving Cold Stone and wasn't sure where to find a location until I "Yelped." I was so happy to see there was a location not far from where I was. Turns out we had been driving pass this location for a long time not knowing it was there. I purchased my favorite "coffee" ice cream with pecans. This location was not busy at all but I would imagine it gets pretty busy because it's near the San Diego State University. I never write Yelp reviews but my experience was so bad it is worth sharing. On the website, they said the store closed at 9:30. I drove 15 minutes to get there an HOUR before closing and the doors was locked (it looked open) and the two employees working there just waved me as they were wiping down counters, saying they were closed and then didn't acknowledge me at all. If door closed at 8:30 please update your store hours, I'm not sure why this store closes an hour before when they say they do online. It wasn't on the menu board but i asked if they were still able to make it and the girl was total cool about it and said yes! 4 stars because I wish there was a bit more seating but i understand if they're trying to vibe it for take out. My husband wanted the cake batter ice and proceeded to tell the guy he wanted the cake batter batter. This employee then proceeded to belittle us in front of everyone by asking us what is the cake batter or what's missing from the cake batter all while standing there not attempting to make what my husband ask for. Me and my husband were so confused. I believe he was hinting at the fact we said the title of the ice cream incorrect. Then the lady that worked with him told him to stop and she apologized for him giving us a hard time all while laughing. He said well we aren't gonna know what to make if you guys don't say it right. The concept is great and I've had it before when I thought flavors were great as well. The review in this case is more about the service and location experience.
