Big Colectivo fan here, and this location is one of my favorites. They've been changing up the seating arrangement, and the layout they currently have is great. There are ample outlets to plug in your laptop if need be. In the summer, it further comes to life with the open doors to the patio. They do pour overs here and you really can't beat that. Convenient location, a good merch display, and a full menu rounds out Prospect to be on of my top places to grab some coffee. read more

trying to get a bite to eat, afternoon on a weekday. While I was waiting for my order, the band was sound checking in the back room and the volume became gradually louder and louder until people in the side room, where I was, were literally holding their hands over their ears. Then it stopped for a couple minutes, then it started back up louder. Ridiculously, ludicrously loud, and I'm saying that as someone who is seen Motorhead live three separate times. Finally everyone in the side room has quit what they're doing and they are just making faces. Literally painful. I went to talk to the manager about it, he said there was nothing he could do, and it is just getting louder. I told him the volume was a little ridiculous, maybe they could turn it down some. Nope. I asked for my money back. This seemed to confuse him, as we shouted at each other over the sound, and he seemed to want to object, but he finally gave me my money back and I left. This isn't the first time the sound check is been unacceptably, obnoxiously loud. Just the worst. The food's okay, the coffee is okay, but be warned, they have bands there a lot now, and this is a music venue. They don't care about your coffee shop experience, they are making money as a music venue and if that means your ears are going to bleed for a while, that's fine with them. read more

So it has been many years since my first review and the company even has a new name. This is an excellent company. I enjoy the aesthetic with all the plants, various seating options and unique structural elements. They also give back to the company in many ways, support local arts and now open the space for smaller music shows and community panels. I know the owners donate quite a lot to the local school systems as individual donors too. I will also say that they offer decent insurance benefits to their employees too ( I am not an employee). If I had to muster up one thing I don't care for, it is the smell of the bean roasting. It wafts into my home and it is not friendly to my senses. Yay Colectivo. read more

I really love the coffee and food from Colectivo in general, but every location is different. For example, yesterday we went to Colectivo by the Lake and we were told the cold brew has several sizes. Today, we ordered a XL cold brew and was told there's only one size. I ordered the "Sandwich Special- with chips" and it didn't come with chips. When I asked for them, it seemed like a massive inconvenience, and I was given chips begrudgingly, I was just trying to point out what the sign said. As a poor sociology grad student in Milwaukee in the mid 90's I had one splurge: coffee. I most definitely needed to be alert to read Weber's "Protestant Ethic and the Spirit of Capitalism." To say I'm an addict is an understatement. Every few weeks I would wander over to Alterra and buy at least two pounds of their wonderful coffee (they roast on site and the process is pretty cool in itself). They have a great selection of Fair Trade and Organic coffees. These people know their stuff...so any probing coffee (or tea) questions you may have, ask away! I have always supported my local businesses and even though I left Milwaukee 10 years ago, to this day I order online from Alterra. They have a really groovy website with very intricate coffee descriptions. My favorites are Delta Mud, Blue Heeler and Dark Sumatra Gayoland coffees. My husband said it perfectly, "They could expand Alterra to be a city block long and you would still be fighting for a seat." Truth. However, I love this Alterra as it holds a special place in my heart. My first apartment when I came to Milwaukee was on Summit, one street over, and I would spend my unemployed days chilling here trying to pick up dudes. Wait, What? Oh, cuz I may have :-) Anyway, people will fight for seats here because this place is so awesome, this is not your regular Starbucks, folks. There is something to drink for everyone and the crowd is really a mixed bag. They have since expanded and taken out the roaster part- which is not at Humboldt- however I get the warm and fuzzies when I walk in here. My husband loves the new brew bar where they brew a fresh strong hot cup of joe for you right there. The Peanut Butter cookie will always rank as my all time favorite as well. read more

If I were just rating the chorizo breakfast burrito this place would get a 10! I absolutely love it! I really like the vibe at this location. They have tables inside and then a second room that opens to the outdoors. Its always pretty busy with people meeting or just working. I haven't personally worked here so I can't say much for atmosphere but I would definitely try it. Coffee is good but I have an endless complaint with the sizes of the cups at Colectivo. If you drink a medium at a normal coffee shop, get a large here. The cups are smaller than I personally would expect. Regardless I keep coming back so its not that big of a deal. :) read more

If you're looking for a quieter quainter more work focused setting, pick this location over Lakefront. Same great quality, but when I'm there to work for a long period of time this is the place I choose. The staff is incredibly kind and friendly, and the atmosphere is calming and open with the skylight and garage door. Love the plentiful amounts of outlets and nooks to sit in and get comfortable for a few hours at a time. read more

Colectivo , you really never do me wrong . Great coffee and great food . I recommend the chorizo burrito and any lunch sandwich. The prospect location isn't my favorite only due to the fact it's a attraction for the homeless .I don't mind them outside and will occasionally help them out with a meal . The problem occurs when their inside passed out at the table next to me when I'm trying to enjoy my cheesy biscuit. Speaking of cheesy biscuits, they have excellent home made orange juice . They also have a nice selection of fruit cups that are fresh and never old ! It's a nice location for us folks on the east side. They open up the garage door in the summer and you can get the fresh air while still inside on the wifi! read more

While I do enjoy the atmosphere, espresso drinks (their coffee isn't to my taste), and bakery (OMG SERIOUSLY), and service at Colectivo shops in general. The Prospect Ave location is not the best spot for getting some work accomplished on WIFI... It's quite slow and made things trickier than normal. That being said, it is free. read more

I frequent this shop often to try their espresso, which is always varied in blend week to week. Most of their baristas are trained pretty well and i have enjoyed several amazing orders of espresso among the mediocre. Baristas can be a bit limited in speech but they make up for it by creating a quality atmosphere and service! The homeless and emphatic strangers are small and infrequent however you will see them around the location and sometimes outside it. There is also definitely no shortage of attractive women/men and the places buzzes to the resonance of the city along with the beauty of its natural decor. I've worked with coffee and the guys that run the place are mindful and diligent. Thanks for listening enjoy the coffee. read more

Food and drink are ok. No place to sit to enjoy them. Waited 10 min. and still no movement in the seating dept. This has happened three times now of trying out this place. The place is over run by zombies sitting on their computers for hours on end (although they've long finished whatever they bought in the first place). I'm surprised that this is ok with Colectivo mgmt., as it's got to affect their bottom line. If you want to hang for hours on your computer, then head to the library. Won't be going back. read more

WOW! This location's renovation makes it FABULOUS. I hung out all afternoon last week in September in their new semi-outdoor area, and was amazingly comfortable even though the weather was definitely no longer summer - ish. So great to have such a great place have more room! read more

Love the new layout of the location! Alterra did an amazing job with the place. It's a lot bigger w/ probably 4-5 times the seating area, yet it does still have the charm and intimate atmosphere. The coffee speaks for itself, however for a limited time, they're featuring the Costa Rican Geisha as a pour over.........costs almost $4 for a 12 oz. cup, however it's worth every penny! My favorite menu item is the grilled cheese sandwich made w/ four different types cheeses and tomato......highly recommended!!!!! Bakery items never disappoint either! read more

Great mocha and friendly service. This roaster on the east side of Milwaukee served up exceptional coffee and a great attitude.

They have great coffee and tea here. Great desserts too. Staff is really cool and the place has a wonderful relaxing vibe both inside and out. You can sip your coffee and watch them roast the coffee beans in back. It's located on Milwaukee's Lower East Side, one of the city's most interesting neighborhoods. It can get crowded but it didn't bother me all that much. read more

When I first went inside of the coffee shop I was surprised how it looked similar to a greenhouse with all of the plants and a Starbucks combined. I love the atmosphere and everything is so clean and nice. I can tell it's very crowded in there because it is a very popular place to go in Milwaukee. I really enjoyed the sandwich special which was the tomato mozzarella as well as their wide selected menu items. I also saw my first gospel choir which was magnificent. I would highly recommend this place for anyone who likes healthy delicious food at fair prices. read more
