We certainly got our fill of great steakhouse staples - the stars for us were the sides and appetizers; while not listed on the menu, the lobster mac and cheese was available to order, and it was truly phenomenal with a rich seafood flavor, perfectly cooked macaroni, and a crispy baked crust. The lobster bisque in puff pastry was an excellent combination / there's a special ingredient that makes it different than your traditional lobster bisque but we couldn't quite put our finger on it - tahini/sesame perhaps? Nonetheless, quite remarkable. The creamed spinach was well done, although not the best I've had. We ordered the Porterhouse steak for 2 which they kindly split for us, and it was cooked to a beautiful medium rare. It was a miracle we were able to fit any dessert into our stomachs, but the whiskey caramel bread pudding was stellar - served warm and beautifully cooked. Came here to celebrate a birthday and what a special experience! We were greeted at the start with a birthday card from Cole's which was a nice touch. Our server was kind and attentive, as well as other staff! We ordered the dry aged porterhouse steak medium rare. The steak had a nice umami and nutty flavor. And paired well with our sides the sautéed mushrooms and lobster Mac and cheese (special side). Both sides were also very delicious!! If you haven't been to Cole's, you haven't had good steak! We make sure to go every single time we're in Napa and they have never disappointed us since our first visit about three years ago. We always start with the oysters Rockefeller and no one makes them better than Cole's. They're flavor packed and always a huge bite that's sure to please! The steak is always cooked to perfection and the seasoning is always perfect, never too much or too little. My boyfriend and I have had just about every steak on the menu but our go to is their Famous 21-Day Dry Aged New York Steak cooked rare. It's perfect every time and the flavor is unbeatable. For sides we've had quite a few of them but you're in for a real treat if they have the lobster truffle mac and cheese, that dish is a star on its own. If truffles or seafood aren't your cup of tea then the potatoes gratin are sure to please instead! For dessert, even though we're always too full for it, we almost always opt for the seasonal crumble. It's always perfectly balanced and absolutely delicious. As for the space, Cole's has an incredible older steakhouse feel and the patio is amazing regardless of season. If you're looking for something a little quieter I recommend the patio, even when it's freezing outside they keep it super warm in there! We visited Cole's Chop House for dinner one night during out Napa trip. The place was packed and you could tell it was a locals favorite. We enjoyed dinner in their heated outdoor area which was perfect! The server was wonderful and made sure to take care of us throughout the evening. My husband ordered the Bone-In Pork Chop and was very happy with the full plate size chop! I ordered the Petite Filet, which was good but a bit overcooked for my taste. I'm not one to complain, so I enjoyed it anyway and the flavor was still good. We shared a side of their family style mashed potatoes, which were perfection. My group of 7 girls planned a weekend get away to Napa for a mom's weekend away and chose to have dinner at Coles on a Friday night and I'm so happy we did. The food was exceptional and the service was well beyond deserving of 5 stars. I can see why this is the most popular steakhouse and most talked about in the Napa area. Made birthday reservation @ Cole's and upon arrival promptly seated. Restaurant is in a stone building and with the music pumping loudly it gave an energetic vibe but also a little difficult to make conversation. We were seated with a nice birthday card from restaurant. Server Richie approached us with birthday greetings and proceeded to take drink orders and informed us on specials for the day. After giving us some time to look over the menu we finally decided on course of action. For appetizer we started out with Wild Mushroom Crostini. Mushrooms were very tasty. For entrees my friend got the Petite Filet Mignon and I opted for the Rib Eye Steak which both got requested medium cooked. For sides we got the Roasted Cauliflower and the Yukon Gold Potato Gruyère Gratin. We both really enjoyed our steaks! My rib eye was perfectly cooked and so delicious. I cut my steak into tiny slices so I could savor more bites. The cauliflower was okay but the potato side really stood out. So yummy! As Ritchie was going over dessert menu he mentioned that his wife really liked The Banana Cream Pie. Also a nice touch, they brought out a scoop of gelato with slice of chocolate and candle courtesy of the restaurant. Well with a recommendation like that we had to try it. It was a solid choice and one of the best banana cream pie I've had. Coles opens at 5 however when we entered it started to get busy right away. We were lucky to get seats before our reservation. We were seated in their upstairs area which was really nice. The service was very polite the staff here are very welcoming. The food was delicious. I ordered the lamb chops, medium with sauce on the side recommended by our server. My boyfriend ordered 21 day aged steak which he devoured. I was happy he enjoyed his birthday steak. Our mash potatoes could've used more butter n salt. However it was still delicious. First time in Napa and greatly recommended by many. Had no regrets. Went there for my wife's birthday, and we all could not have been happier with the food and service. For starters, we had the beef carpaccio which melted in your mouth. Maybe one of the best I've had. My dinner of the black Angus ribeye and my wife's dinner of the lobster tail were beyond belief. Steak was cooked perfectly and seasoned to perfection. My wife said the lobster tail could not have been better. We did bring a bottle of wine from one of the vineyards and there's normally a corkage fee, but if you buy a bottle of wine there, they will deduct the corkage fee. It was my wife's birthday and they very happily gave us a dessert on the house. Which was scrumptious. For a restaurant with such a great name and reviews, the pricing for both wines and entrées are very reasonable. My husband and I decided to splurge and do our anniversary dinner at Cole's Chop House in downtown Napa when we were celebrating last weekend. Everything was really nice! Most notably our server, Monica, was such a joy! She was super attentive, really personable and helpful in her dinner recommendations. She definitely helped make our anniversary special! We opted to sit outdoors in their heated enclosed patio. The ambiance was really cute. If you're worried about being warm during the cooler seasons, fret not! The heat really kept up well. Food wise, we got Oysters Rockefeller for our starter and they were SO delicious! We had the Black Angus Filet Mignon (10oz) and Black Angus Rib Eye Steak for our main meals. We both enjoyed our cuts and they were cooked very beautifully. For our sides, we got the Yukon Gold Mashed Potatoes & Brussel Sprouts- both had the taste on point! We also got the side on special that night: lobster Mac & cheese. It was very good overall. The only reason it missed the mark for us is because of a preference- we aren't a fan of truffle. While it was hot being seated in the outside patio, the servers were very attentive with providing a consistent flow of ice water. This was super helpful! There is seating inside and another seating space upstairs with AC and fans running on this hot day. However, there were no available seating indoors. The food was excellent and family friendly. While my 7year old ordered from the children's menu, we ordered steaks. Ribeye and mashed potatoes were our favorite! We did start with the Dungeness crab cocktail which was different and delicious. It was creamy with a slaw underneath which provided a refreshing crunch to the dish. We also had the mushroom side dish as well as the Parmesan truffle fries side dish. I am writing about an incident that happened at the restaurant last night. I left my AirPods at your establishment and turned around as soon as possible once my phone notified me they were left there. Once I returned the manager did try to help me, but it was unsuccessful. Then this morning they pinged at a location in Fairfield. I am assuming that an employee took my AirPods. Celebrated our wedding anniversary here during our Napa weekend. I noted in the reservations that we were celebrating our anniversary. If your love language is 'gift receiving' like me, then you know how important special occasions like this are. And before you judge, it's not the price tag of the 'gift' that is important to me, it's the thought, care, or effort that went into choosing or executing it. Unfortunately no mention of our anniversary was made by the hostess when we checked-in, so there was a lack of care. It was kinda odd because the hostess was the same hostess at another restaurant that we dined at the day before. There, she asked us if we were celebrating anything, even though the answer was in the notes. They had a stack of cards and she grabbed one for us. So at Coles, while we were waiting at the bar to be seated, I went up to her to ask if she also worked at [the other restaurant] and she said yes. I told her we remembered her from the day before:) . I'm sure she sees a lot of people everyday so I didn't expect her to remember. Since there's no waiting area, we sat at a high top table while we waited for our table to be ready. Even thought we weren't directly at the bar, the bartender asked if we wanted a drink, which I thought was kind. I think we had the best table in the restaurant b/c we could see everything from our view. :) Along those lines, we saw the tables next to us had celebratory cards that said Happy Anniversary. It was a bit embarrassing for me to ask our server if we would get one of those for ours. He looked confused and I was like, "I mentioned it in the reservation notes what we're celebrating". I know he probably doesn't see that information so it's not his fault. Perhaps the hostess can pay a little more attention to the notes in the reservation so stuff like this doesn't happen. He was like, oh yeah. I'll get you one. Well, he kept passing by us every now and then. We now had our drinks and appetizer. A while had passed and I realized that he had forgotten our request. My husband knows my love language, so he stopped a manager who happened to walk by and let him know that our server had forgotten and if he could bring us one. The manager was very kind and quickly went to get it for us. Just as the manager came to our table w/the card, our server also came to our table to bring something we had ordered. The manager whispered something to him and I was in my mind thinking like, "ooooou". I don't know what he told him but I don't think it was good. -Oysters Rockefeller: (4/5). The portion is 4 oysters. Our server recommended we get a 2nd order but I thought this was sufficient for us. -Humble Honeydew: (3.5/5). I didn't get too much of the honeydew flavor but it was a refreshing cocktail, and a bit tart. - Hibiscus Margarita (3/5): My husband loves agua de jamaica (hibiscus water) but unfortunately this missed the mark for him. -Rib eye steak (5/5). The flavor was very good and cooked medium rare as requested. But about half way through, my steak was well done. I let our server know and he was prompt to replace it with a new steak. -Baked Potato w/bacon and cheese (5/5): The portion was huge and good for 2 adults to share. -Sauteed Mushrooms (5/5): very good flavor and a nice bite to the mushrooms. If you like a bit of a crunch to your mushrooms, these are for you :) -Banana Cream Pie (4/5): I think after the card-fiasco earlier, our server was now well aware that we were celebrating our anniversary. Dined here Friday night with my family for our anniversary. We sat in the patio. Our server who did not introduce himself came fairly late to our table having sat down for atleast 10 minutes. The only time our server checked on us was that time asking how or drinks were while waiting for our main course. My husband ordered medium rare 10 oz. filet. It looked more medium and dry. I ordered a cowboy ribeye medium rare. I cut into it and it was more medium well. Our server kept going to other tables but ours. Normally and specially at fine dining, server should check on their guests right away to see if you need anything and or if the steaks came out right. We did not get that from our server. I proceeded to go to the host stand whom their hist was Jessica. She was very friendly and only friendly one to deal with at Cole's. I asked for a manager and right away she sent him. The manager asked what was wrong. I let him know my steak was more medium well and that our server has not come back since our drink check. I let the manager know i work at a steakhouse. He proceeded to ask where and said that it's the lighting that throws off the looks of the ribeye. I've served many steaks before and I know how it should look. Rather than asking where I work, he should focus on making the guests happy. He was very and you can see the surrounding tables staring at him. He has not very pleasant managerial skills He made us feel unwelcome. He offered to get a different steak out. I told him no as my husband was already finished eating. As he walked out the patio you can clearly hear him tell the staff in a laughing manner where I worked. He has no proffesional skills. Still our server came way later back to our table. There's no business for us that night. A ruined anniversary reservation that I made online. Not recognized from our server we were spending a special day. He took forever to get our card to closeout. I walked out and let my husband wait. He realized the served was not coming back so he mentioned the manager closed him out. Our tipping goes based upon service. We normally pay 20 percent tip as we know how tipping goes distributed to other staff. My husband did not tip. The manager told him in a rude manner that he's have to visit our job. What a very rude manager. No hospitality, no compassion. Many families come to dine here and that's how a manager acts. We've dined here multiple times and that night was the worse. He did not make anything right. Rather he humiliated my family in front of other guests. We too are paying guests and should be treated fairly. I emailed the same review and not a response back. We enjoyed this place in the past. We'd like to give Cole's another chance. Only if we can here back from them. read more
