Came for breakfast on a Saturday with the hubby for the first time and was surprised how cozy the place is. It can get pretty loud in there because the tables are pretty close together. It was honestly a little hard to have a conversation with the hubby because the ladies behind us were loud and there was another lady across the restaurant who was speaking loudly too. The service is so so. It didn't seem like they were understaffed, but more like the staff were inattentive. We were ready to place an order but the staff didn't notice us. Instead he went to the table in front of us and asked the gentleman if he was ready to order. The kind gentlemen had to tell the staff that we were ready. Food was alright. Hubby ordered the titan breakfast while I ordered the French toast with strawberry. We both really liked the sausage and I really liked the freshly squeezed orange juice.

I've been to Colonial Kitchen a couple of times for brunch. Can't believe I've driven by for so many years and never tried it. Very classic feeling diner in the main room, nostalgic aesthetic. Decent breakfast options and fresh squeezed OJ is a plus. I'd skip the turkey sausage in the future...but their omelettes and Titan Breakfast are decent. Choice of hashbrowns or O'Brien (w/ onions & bell peppers) and choice of bread (white, wheat, or sourdough). Their pancakes were good too, their mix is already a bit sweet. Service is a little slow. Sometimes they have open tables, but just not enough staff. Parking lot is small, otherwise there is also street parking. Restrooms are fairly clean.

Best fried chicken (& waffles) ! Almost tastes like the chicken is fried in waffle batter or something. I don't know what's their secret but it was delicious

On a Sunday morning at 9:10am in Early June, my hubby and I came here for breakfast. The place wasn't too busy at all. We were nicely greeted and sat in a table. It was hard to decide what to get. I already a morning snack before I came here, so I ordered chicken n waffles. I love the old school interior and vibe. They have tables and booths. They played nostalgia music in the background. The waffle was thick and huge. The fried chicken pieces were crispy and not greasy. The staff came by several times to refill water and coffee. I got full by eating Fried chicken and waffles. I will definitely come back again for lunch or dinner.

I was truly disappointed in how much quality control has gone down. 2 years ago, we visited for a Thanksgiving lunch, and today we went again because our family turkey dinner plans were canceled last minute. Ordered the Thanksgiving plate (it was tasty last time I ordered it) and when the server brought my plate out, I was appalled before even taking a bite. Everything (turkey, cranberry sauce, stuffing, mashed potatoes, veggies, etc) were previously frozen, canned or boxed. Needless to say, I couldn't eat much. I only asked for a takeaway box to feed our neighborhood cats (including the pie). My boyfriend read ownership changed. Needless to say, we won't return again. I look forward to Thanksgiving every year because I love a traditional Thanksgiving meal and love to celebrate friends and family and how thankful I am. This meal was depressing. Then and now pics posted.

Stuffed French Toast

I ordered the stuffed French toast. It's.... I don't even know. Honestly I think it could do without the cream cheese. The cream cheese addition wasn't bad nor was it great. It was honestly just confusing. I LOVE cream cheese so I was okay with it. But if you don't, you'll hate it. I think it dries up the french toast a bit. The French toast itself was NOT dry. The crunch was absolutely perfect. The peanut butter? Yum. But peanut butter and cream cheese? What? I waited for my stomach to reject it, but it didn't. So I guess it went down okay. Service was fine. Kind of odd that the guy waited for us all to squeeze in to a booth before saying "do you guys want to sit at that other booth? It's bigger." But the booth size was perfect for us. It was just squeezing to get IN to the booth. The table and wall was quite close and we had to move the table to a crooked angle to get in.

I drive by the Colonial Kitchen often and I finally had the opportunity to try it out. It was VERY expensive. With a tip, I walked out having paid over $35! For just me. The food was good, but not great and at those prices, I am expecting great!! My waitress and the man at the register were nice.

Disappointed! Quite expensive for mediocre cooking served. 70s looking interior; diners ambiance. Shakers in South Pasadena is better!

However, the Original ribeye melt was to freaking die for soooo good, excellent! This place is a little on the pricey side, but everything is going up fast currently so there's that. But I must say, you owe yourself, treat yourself to something nice every now and then. The service was nice, the atmosphere was superb, and the food was excellent. Expect to spend a few shiny pennies, but it's well worth the splurge. We went all out, and enjoyed the asparagus fries, some mocktails, and adult beverages to enjoy along side our steak dinners. We pretty much all ordered the Bistro Plate, and all loved it! All the meats were cooked perfectly, and the soup was amazing! That nights soup special was the ginger carrot. It was so well balanced, smooth, full flavored and all around perfect. My friend and I, also ordered a side of mashed potato, and again amazing and worth it. The whole meal was the perfect portion. No leftovers, and certainly not hungry for the rest of the night! Our server was on point, attentive professional. The ambiance was warm and welcoming. The meal from start to finish was just as expected for a fine dining experience. 5 star all the way. A must. Chef's kiss. I will 100% be back.

Today was definitely the perfect day. Knowing what I know now as I write this review, we would return & bring friends here. It's about 78 to 80°F on a Friday a few minutes before 1 pm, surprisingly, it was low key--only a couple tables taken indoors by patrons and a set of guys on the patio. At the door, it said to seat ourselves & I immediately shot to the patio. The set up: once seated, the server comes with menus, you order & it's a sit down meal. Giselle was our friendly & attentive server, young & attentive. Hubby ordered the breakfast burrito ($11.50) & I opted for build your own omelette $11.50 for a 3 egg omelette & choice of two items- mushroom and bell peppers accompanied with breakfast potatoes, and chilaquiles ($13.99) to share. The patio seating is fresh, airy, there are tables, outdoor furnitures (sofas) and bright orange umbrellas for shade. My photos captured these elements. The food arrived shortly, although not all at once. I didn't mind it all because the ambiance was so soothing with the sound of birds chirping away and the background of other patrons talking. The only complaint from Hubby was too many pototo chunks in his burrito. My omelette was hot, fresh ingredients, delectable & the potatoes were mixed with 3 colors of bellpeppers. Oh and the chilaquiles? Pretty darn good! The tortilla chips were crispy, perfect amount of green salsa, freshly diced onions & a sprinkling of cotija cheese. Was I famished or was it that good that I devoured everything? What's left was Hubby's potato chunk discards. Giselle returned a few times to ensure our experience is to our satisfaction & another staff also stopped by to check on us. Such a perfect meal & day-- I'm so happy with this visit. The restaurant itself isn't too big but it does a pack a nice punch. Cute patio out front that takes some of the sidewalks and streets. Plenty of heat lamps which helped with the chilly nights. We got seated at one of the tables on the patios which was nice. Didn't really utilize inside area except for the restroom which it's quite cute in there. The rooms were pretty well decorated and executed. Nice bar area too. Like mentioned, we got seated on the patio and the heat lamps were great. Down to the menus, it's quite limited on dishes. Seemed like there were more shared plates versus the entrees. Drinks, it was fairly decent with their cocktails and wine. Service at the beginning was great. The staff were amazing and very friendly. We didn't order right away as we were still waiting for the last one to show. But did start off with some drinks. It didn't take that long for the first round which was nice. Food wise, the shared plate was a mixture of everything. Some of the olives, which is exactly what it is. The Belgian fries, nice thick cut fries with shredded pecorino cheese and a nice aioli sauce. We ended up getting a second order of it. The albacore tuna crudo was a hit which was really tasty. Chili ginger relish, mint and shallot, can't go wrong with that. Lastly the meatballs, tasty and very great for sharing. Entrees, the pan seared sea bass which I loved. Portion is pretty tiny which also seemed like they were a shared plate. Almost tapas styled. Nice chimichurri sauce and a side salad. The chicken Milanese also with a side salad of arugula. Simple dish but quite tasty. One of the salads that was somewhat hyped up by the waitress but it was just a salad. Decent but nothing major to rave about...lol... also the confit oyster mushrooms was major hit. Something that simple but quite tasty. And lastly the pan con tomate, rustic sourdough with tomatoes and burrata. Tasty as well. Overall the meal was good. From there, the second round of drinks did take a long time to arrive and with then plates that we shared, trying to get someone to clear the plates was another thing. Took a long for someone to clear the table before more items came. Even when the entrees came, all the empty starter plates were still there. And if someone did clear the plates, some was still left on the table. Finishing off the night, we did have the dessert which we tried all three. As it was two of our girlfriends birthday, they brought out a little bubbly for us to celebrate with the dessert. That was quite sweet and nice. Honestly opinion with the dessert, they were just ok. Nothing major to rave about. We tried all three on the menu and they were just ok. Overall, the food was great. Service was nice and the staffs were all very friendly. It did take a while for plates to get cleared from the table and second round did take a while, but it was manageable. It was a sweet gesture with the bubbly with the dessert which was greatly appreciated. The place is nice and great for catching up. Menu is limited and portions are quite small. You would have to get a good amount for sharing. Entrees, depending on what you order is small as well. But we enjoyed ourself.

It takes forever to get our order and once we do our server disappears. Seriously so bad. But I keep coming back for their good food.

I am genuinely thrilled to have such an upscale, quiet, and relaxing restaurant right here in my neighborhood. You can truly taste the chef's passion and dedication in every dish. Every time I bring friends here, they are absolutely amazed and delighted by the flavors. We ordered quite a few dishes today. The highlight was the Chilean Sea Bass. The chef served a massive, beautifully thick cut--which is actually the hardest to execute. If overcooked even slightly, Chilean Sea Bass becomes dry and tough. But the timing here was absolutely perfect. It had a gorgeous, golden-brown exterior, while the inside remained incredibly moist, tender, and delightfully springy. The seasoning was spot-on and never overpowering; it wasn't too salty, perfectly preserving the natural, fresh flavors of the sea. We also had the Chicken Bowtie Pasta. I typically avoid chicken dishes at restaurants because they often turn out dry and lack the rich aroma you get from beef or lamb. However, Sage's chef elevates chicken to another level. Rather than using the traditional Cantonese technique of quickly flash-frying in oil (which yields a smooth texture but sacrifices the natural meat aroma), the chef here expertly pan-sears the chicken over extremely high heat for a short time. This creates a deliciously crisp exterior that locks in all the juices and rich flavor. Tossed with perfectly cooked bowtie pasta and cheese, the result is so flavorful and well-balanced that we simply couldn't stop eating! Another great thing about Sage is their incredibly generous portion sizes--we left completely satisfied! We finished our meal with a great cup of coffee and the chef's handmade Tiramisu, drawing a perfect, sweet close to our evening. Highly recommend!
