I was unable to make an appointment on a Friday morning but came as soon as they opened at 8 AM. I cannot say enough good things about this place. First of all it is ideally located so close to my house. Looked into some yelp reviews and thought I'd check them out. I brought my car in because it was making some awful noises and was not running as smoothly as it normally does. As soon as I came in Fernando was able to take my car for a test drive with me in it. He heard the sound just as I had described it to him and was able to explain the exact diagnosis and the cause of it. He was able to take my car in that very same day and get the part at a very affordable cost. This gentleman knows what he's doing and has been doing it for awhile. My wifes car had been acting up lately so I took it to another mechanic for repair. Turns out hes an idiot. He didn't do any diagnostic work he just replaced the part I told him I thought was bad. So my wife took it back to her old stomping grounds to Fernando at TCC. Pete (his right hand man) had the hood up and was going to town. Thanksgiving eve Wednesday at 5pm. Picked it up tonight. Fernando explained the work. Had the old part in his hands and explained how it works and how it failed. Not the best part of The Colony but the BEST shop to trust your vehicle with. Happy here. I found out from a oil change chain that I had some problems that needed to be fixed real soon. They gave me estimates and everything. I took these estimates to Fernando. I was a little surprised at first that he didn't want to look at the estimates & suggested work that needed to be done from the other place. The thing is that he wanted to assess it for himself. They don't go off anything that other places say and don't like to use other places parts to do repair work. They have been doing this for a long time, so what they need to do is to be given the space to look at the issue(s) for themselves and to take care of the problem optimally. If you have been doing something for decades (as they have), they probably know better. I let them have have my car, he gave me a full explanation for what was going on and asked me if he could move forward. After the work was done, he offered me to come back a week later for a follow up. The nature of work that was done in this case needs a check-up soon after. Everything was fine. I made the mistake of taking my car here in Janruary of 2021. My car has a over heating issue. Fernando said it started at $99.00 to do a diagnostic of the issue. After a while he called me said your car needs new temp sensors and a wire to the raditor was disconnected and need to be reconnected. Fernando told me it the cost would be about $286. to fix the problem. So I agreed to it since he suppose to be a mechanic and that was his dignostic finding. He lied saying he fix the problem. Fernando lied about saying he drove my car all the way down to Hwy 121 and back and said my car didn't overheat. As where I drove my car 4 miles to my home from his shop and the temp. gauge was goiung in the red. I called him that night and informed him of that as well. Then I called him the next day after driving my car less 1 mile to see if it was still over heating., which it was. He response after he took my money was not to resovle the situatioin to make it right by the customer. He said if I brought my car back he would put it back the way it was. Fernando did not offer to fix the car, Great customer service! Fernando just said the price he charged me was to do a diagnotic of the car not to fix it. Fernando needs to change how his business is listed remove it from car repair service listing. Fernando also needs to learn not to talk down to women. I have used Fernando and Colony Car care for over ten years and have always been very happy. My last visit was exceptional in professionalism and savings. I have a Hyundai Tucson which had been showing "front radar needs cleaning" for over a year. The Hyundai dealership said I needed to replace the radar unit for about $1500. Fernando checked it out and found that it had slipped some in its mounting. He told me he could not be sure that was the only problem before he did the work. However, its now been over 6 months and not one warning light. So instead of $1500 it was close to just $100. It is very hard to find good professional car independent car mechanics that you can 100% trust. Fernando and Colony Care are one of those. Very disappointing! If I could give him zero star I would. My husband took his work van to Fernando to ask about possibly doing work on his van. Fernando advised him of the $90 diagnostic charge. My husband decided at that time he wasn't going to do it. The following day my husband took his van to Fernando and told him to look at his truck. Come to find out it was a tire my husband needed. My husband went to pay Fernando and he stated that this one is on the house. My husband told him well I'm going to have my wife bring our truck to you to get a transmission mount put on. Let me stop here. I was told by another mechanic at another shop I needed a transmission mount but we decided to take it to Fernando. I get to the office and Fernando takes my keys and begin working on my truck. He completes the work and comes into the office to tell me that it wasn't my transmission mount it's my engine mount. He also stated that the transmission mount was stressed but the knocking noise we hear is because the engine shifts when we take off. I paid him and left. I informed my husband of what happened and he went back up to the shop to talk to Fernando. Here is the problem. I can't blame Fernando for the misdiagnosis, that was the fault of the other mechanic, however, Fernando being the mechanic he is should have stopped doing the work once he took the transmission mount off and noticed that it wasn't the issue. Fernando advised my husband that he didn't notice the knocking noise until be backed out (after the work was done) but I'm not seeing how that is true because when he pulled the truck in he would have felt it if he didn't hear it. So I just feel that he should have stopped once he took the transmission mount off and noticed it was "stressed". Meaning it wasn't anything wrong with it. Have some kind of integrity! Money was not an issue here. Either way Fernando was going to get paid whether he put on the part or stopped the work because he noticed that the issue was something else. Then had the nerve to say "YOU PEOPLE"! Just disgusting! Will never go back there and since "YOU PEOPLE" meaning African Americans are problem I'm going to make sure that this is known. Fernando, I don't need a reply because at the end of the day you were wrong. You got paid so you are good. read more
