Extremely disappointed, the person who took my order either misunderstood what my order was or just wasn't paying attention. We ordered shrimp parm and were given chicken or veal parm. We didn't realize until we got home and I called and talked to them and the person that took my order said I was wrong and I didn't say shrimp he "100%" remembers me saying chicken. Very annoyed and disappointed at the attitude and I do NOT like to be called a liar. The Colony Diner is amazing. Three of us ate dinner and between the three dinners, we felt like we could have fed the multitudes. The portions are huge. The taste was outstanding too. All of the waiters and bus staff were dressed wearing neckties. Service was top notch. Jennifer was our waitress. She was very pleasant and extremely efficient. Went there for dinner tonight, one of the worst meals we've had. My lentil soup was cold and had to be sent back twice. We had the Greek Salad and it was very sad, not an olive or stuffed grape leaves in sight. My wife's Damon meal came with tasteless broccoli, lukewarm half of a sweet potato and a small portion of warm rice. My Chicken Luigi was gross. My cousin and I had a chance to stop in Colony Diner for lunch for the first time last week, we were quite surprised when we were greeted at the door and promptly seated. Our waitress was very friendly, bubbly and experienced in the food she was serving. The manger offered us Danishes on the house, because they didn't have the salad that we had ordered. The ambiance, the employees and the manager made our experience with Colony Dine a very pleasurable one. I was truly impressed. I sat down at 9:45, had coffee in my hand by 9:46, ordered food at 9:48. Food came out 10 minutes later, piping hot and delicious. The boss was not above cleaning the restroom and stocking the bar area. In my experience these are the best bosses to work for. Everyone was in a great mood and it was contagious. Honestly one of the best experiences I have had in a restaurant in a long time the owners were so amazing the server Antonio was the best server I left him a big tip because he really treated us like kings. I ordered the soup of the day and it was the turkey soup to be exact and it probably was the best soup I have ever had in my life. I ordered the colossal burger, asked for medium rare and when it came it was raw. I asked the waiter if it looked raw to him and he said it looked medium rare, so I tried to continue, as I approached the middle of the burger it was so mushy I eventually found a cold spot. Wasn't even cooked. So I called the waiter over again and he offered to make me a new one. For safety's sake I said make it medium. The burger came back and it was so well done that it was burnt and charred. Couldn't even eat it. I came to this diner after melanoma walk at Eisenhower park. It was close and diners have a good variety of food. I went with a group of 8 people including myself and we were seated in 10 minutes. The server brought out water, Cole slaw and pickles automatic. I ordered the traditional Greek salad w gyro meat (well done). The food came out in a timely manner. The salad was fresh and had all the right ingredients to a Greek salad. They cooked the meat the way I requested it. The salad was flavorful. The Colony Diner has been an East Meadow Institution for as long as I an remember and I grew up going there to eat and hang out with my friends at least three times a week. I loved this diner; however, a few years ago the diner underwent a transformation and the renovated. Once they reopened, the prices went up dramatically, and I have to admit, I think the food quality went down. The fries and the portion served on the side of a sandwich or omelette used to be awesome, now, nothing to rave about at all. I can't believe that an omelette with spinach and a touch of feta cheese with home fries and toast is $11.35. Seriously? The service and the ambiance is really good for a diner, and when I have a hankering for something served at a diner, I will gladly go there because it's better than most other diners but I am just not as happy as I used to be going there. read more

Make no mistake.....I am a "Long Island diner guy". I go out for breakfast to diners about 3 times a week. this was my first time at Colony, as it was on the way to an appt that I had. I am a simple guy....grilled corn muffin and cup of coffee. Although the service was good, and the server was attentive, the corn muffin was underwhelming both in size and in quality. Not a big deal as I rarely complain. Typically, this gourmet combo comes in between $5.50 and $6.50. Today it was $10. When I looked at the bill, I couldn't believe my eyes when I noticed I was charged $6.25 for a (small) corn muffin. I thought it had to be a mistake...but I was wrong. Sunday morning between games, my flag squad came here to grab breakfast. The service was great considering how crowded and busy the place was due to the breakfast/brunch rush. The place was super clean with your typical diner set up of booths and open tables. They easily accommodated a table of of ten to twelve dudes. Two polite waitresses took our orders and the ridiculous pile of food that we ordered came out in a fairly expedient manner... Pancakes, omelettes, French toast and all the typical breakfast meals that were ordered looked great. This is about one of the best diner's that I've been too. The sandwiches are on point same with with the burgers.. There loaded with really good with meat to bread ratio...But the only issue is when you get a good burger or sandwich nothing better than great French fries on the side or maybe even sweet potato fries... Here you will get frost bitten taste fries and every time it the same.. I've been here so many times in hopes that the fries would be better and every time it just taste like frost bite or soggy... I was waiting for my brother to get off work so of course I wanted to eat before we watched the game. I decided on "Colony Diner" because it's close to his house. I was expecting a normal diner with diner food, but what I got blew my mind. The parking alone was A+, they rolled out the red carpet for me, someone must have told them I was coming. When I walked in I was greeted by smooth Jazz and a wonderful hostess that seated me right away. Once seated I wanted them to take their time because I enjoyed the music and the look of the place. It was more like a restaurant and less like a diner. My waitress, the lovely Sylvia, came over quickly and was the best. It was scary how well she read my mind. I only told her what I wanted and she ran down a list of options for me. I didn't need to think about it, just order. After she put my order in it was a quick wait. My food came out hot and ready. Might I add before I go on, I never wanted for anything, Sylvia was at my table enough without being to bothersome. Ok now to the food. My Monte crisco panini was love at first bite. I loved that they used the right amount of cheese with meat. It was well put together and the honey mustard was a bonus. The cheese fries were good and it's sad I have to mention this because of another place I visited, but the fries were not dry; they were perfect. I was completely satisfied and felt the staff was very attentive to all the guest. Also might I add their uniforms were crisp and clean. I put the focus on their staff because they definitely stood out. kudos "Colony Diner" you have a guest for life. All their phases, food, service, and atmosphere were completely met. I've been here before several times and I knew what I was getting myself into. Maybe it was the fact that we both worked a lot of hours today but we decided on the colony diner because it was close and easy. I wasn't starving but I couldn't help but notice the ridiculous prices on the menu!! (We stopped going for breakfast 5 years ago when 2 egg platters with coffee and juice was $38!) How can you justify charging $10.45 for 2 egg whites!?!? And a French dip is $18!!!! This isn't New York City!! To top it off the food is terrible!! Not just ok or not great... it's terrible!! Again I was tired but I still couldn't see spending so much money when I know the food will suck. I ended up just getting matzo ball soup. One spoonful and I had a mouthful of salt!! It's so frustrating that so many people have had bad experiences at this place yet they've done nothing to change it! This place never fails to disappoint. Although it can be very very busy if you come after 10 on a Saturday and late on a Sunday. But if you go and you are a party of two you typically aren't waiting long. It is always nice to see the owner up in the front and ready to sit you. This morning was a busy one so things were not a 5 star but they also weren't awful either. We ordered the challah bread French toast with a side of eggs with cheese. A little disappointed with the eggs as it looked like slices of American Cheese were just an after thought. The French toast does come with bacon and it was not as crispy or completed fried as we would have liked. We did order a side of bacon which did make up for it. We also had the eggs Benedict. Usually one of my favorite breakfast foods but today the egg was not dripping and oozing the yolk like it usually does and it was just seconds away from being hard boiled instead of poached. But the hollandaise sauce was spot on with flavor. I do wish that the English muffin was also a tad more toasted but it's okay. Most of the breakfast entrees do come with a side of home fries. Today the home fries were slightly under cooked but thanks to franks hot sauce it fixed half of the problem. But again, if you go on a busy days things like this are expected- even though it shouldn't be. But I'm either case it's always a great place for breakfast or lunch! read more

I really never write bad reviews. I think this is actually my first one. I'll start off by explaining that I am currently pregnant and on bed-rest. My husband does not cook at all and I woke up this morning with a sore throat. I really wanted matzo ball soup today being that I can't take too many medications to help me feel better, being that I'm pregnant. On top of not feeling well, I was craving spinach pie... big time. I ordered online because I had 3 kids home with my husband and I am working from home (and on bedrest). I placed the order and was looking forward to hot matzo ball soup to help my throat and spinach pie. Delivery was fast (ordered through doordash) but phew! If there is one way to irritate a pregnant lady who's having a craving it's to get your food order wrong when you're literally daydreaming about this food. The spinach pie (which was $10.50) was MIA... ok I got my money refunded by doordash for that. Ok so I didn't need the spinach pie but I REALLY WANTED it. oh well. Opened up two coffee cups with two different soups in them. (also paid for a bowl size- not sure what a cup size would be.. whatever) One soup- I have no idea what it was.... didn't try it because it didn't smell great. But wow.... the Matzo ball soup... it didn't taste or smell like something that should enter the human body. The broth didn't smell like chicken broth- it smelled like a mix of something fishy and plastic. I somehow still tried to give the benefit of the doubt and tried the matzo ball... nope. I challenge ANYONE to take a bite out of that and not gag. I want to say it was flavorless but there was definitely a very unpleasant flavor there that wouldn't be associated with something you'd like to ingest. Sorry, I'm hormonal and really had high hopes not only for good food- but to help my sore throat feel better. However my husband ordered Uber eats tonight and he called the restaurant to add something to the order and the man who picked up the phone was one of the nastiest people we have ever dealt with in the service industry. I like this diner. I go to it quite frequently and it isn't my favorite but I go quite frequently. Their spaghetti is really good(I will sometimes order an omelet and a side order of spaghetti).
