Inside - clean, neat & spacious

Great breakfast on a Monday morning. Not too busy, staff were friendly, and food came out quickly. Lydia took good care of us and we enjoyed the 80s music playing overhead. The TVs had on sports and news. Location is accessible but there are 2 doors to pull open to get to the gender-specific bathrooms - could be difficult for someone in a wheelchair or with a walker. The desserts looked great in the case but they are not house-made, but might be made somewhere locally, hostess was not sure. Lots of "order by number" choices on the first page of the menu - hubby had #2 and I had #13. Lydia let me sub a pancake for the toast and home fries which was a good choice. The pancake came with butter and warm syrup. My coffee was hot & the omelette was delicious but looked more like a scramble on the plate. Hubby liked his meal too. We would definitely stop back when in the area.

This is always my go-to area diner. I have been going here since the 90s. The food is always good and consistent. I usually enjoy breakfast food here. Also used to do the turkey burger deluxe with fries and onion rings. Always a win. I really enjoy coming to breakfast. There is something about their pancakes that are eggy and moist. The syrup hits these just right. I usually get a scrambled egg with cheese and some hash browns. I have never been disappointed The two brothers that own the place are always friendly and amazingly do not seem to forget a face. I hope they stay in business for years to come

From entry to exit this was an excellent lunch outing. We were greeted warmly at the entryway we were seated at a favorable location within the restaurant. Service was excellent. The food was terrific and tasty and delicious. Be unafraid to make choices and to change your mind and to make request they will accommodate you really wonderful terrific experience it's a diner so the ambience is what you would expect go have a wonderful time. Highly recommend.

Everything was fine except the food. Ambience is nice, the people are friendly, and the service was good. I give 3 stars because my husband, liked their waffle and pancake, but my omelette had no taste at all--I couldn't eat it. Even when I took it home for my dad, he couldn't eat it either. I tried some waffle and chicken from my husband's plate, which were okay. Overall, the service was nice, but the food was just okay.

One of the top Hempstead Turnpike diners, for sure. Colony Diner is what I think of when I think diner. Stainless steel counter seating, mirrors everywhere, and a warm host welcoming you into an oversized booth, placing down a menu that looks like it could be a novel. I came here on a Monday afternoon for lunch with my mom and brother. All of us were in the mood for something a little different. My go-to diner order is a cup of matzoh ball soup and turkey cheeseburger, which is what I ordered. Unfortunately they'd just run out of turkey burgers, so I had to last minute switch to the turkey club as my back up. The matzoh ball soup here was a bit of a let down. It was a little overdone, not much flavor to the broth and no carrots, celery or onions, just the broth which really lacked. My turkey club made up for it, piled high with turkey and just the right amount of mayo. They brought out complimentary coleslaw and pickles which I appreciated. My mom got the cheeseburger deluxe which came with fries and two onion rings and looked delicious. My brother got the eggs benedict that was absolutely smothered in hollandaise in the best way. I'm still shocked at how high diner prices are in general these days, but for the state of the economy I think Colony's prices are pretty fair. I'll be back next time I'm in the area and need my diner fix.

WOW and WOW! You can't tell from the pictures but the portions are humongous and everything tastes great! The interior is very aesthetic and inviting . The staff are really friendly, attentive and accommodating! I can't say enough positives and believe me, I know my diners! For diners it is def 5 stars ! They still have a huge menu and lots to choose from. Very accommodating to children. They have lots of booths, round tables for 6 and large booths that can hold prob 7-8 people. Very comfy. Good parking lot. Near Eisenhower park, so convenient. 9 minutes from museum row. Needless to say , we all took home doggy bags! Sorry no picks of interior but it is attractive.

Big thumbs up from me on this Sunday morning. The food here is better than many of the surviving bunch of diners. Highly recommend the things that make this place good.

Ended up here looking for a place to eat late at night that had gluten, soy and dairy free options…read morefor my friend. Apollo had gluten free penne that could be used with any of the sauces they had. My friend decided to get her gluten free pasta with white clam sauce and she seemed to be satisfied. As for me I got the eggplant parmigiana that came with a side pasta and soup or salad. Portions were generous and I had enough for lunch the next day. Eggplant parmigiana was executed well with thin sliced, breadcrumb coated eggplant that was properly fried, coated with a mild marinara sauce and topped with melted cheese. Side pasta was overcooked. The red sauce was standard. The size of the plate made it difficult to mix the sauce and pasta without spilling some off of the plate. Had a sip of another friend's Bloody Mary that was decent and was spicer than others I tried. She also offered to try some of her baked clams that had a nice blend of breadcrumbs, clams and spices. I didn't get to try the buffalo burger. My friend seemed to be ok with it but not thrilled either. Service was average. The bathroom was clean but the major issue was the temperature inside which was at least 15 degrees colder than the rest of the restaurant. Not sure why that was the case.

Dear sunrise Diner Management,…read more I wanted to take a moment to let you know what a wonderful experience I had at your diner. From the moment we walked in, the service was outstanding. Your staff was friendly, attentive, and made us feel welcome throughout our visit. It's refreshing to receive such excellent customer service. The food was absolutely fantastic, but I have to give special recognition to your homemade chicken pot pie. It was one of the best I've ever had--perfectly seasoned, full of tender chicken and fresh vegetables, with a delicious flaky crust. You can truly taste the homemade quality. I brought my friend, Gene with me, and he couldn't believe how great everything was. He was just as impressed with both the food and the outstanding service. We both left saying we'll definitely be back. Thank you for providing such a memorable dining experience. It's clear that everyone at sunrise Diner takes pride in what they do, and it certainly shows. We'll be recommending your diner to our family and friends and look forward to visiting again soon. Overall a nice place to eat, and will definitely be back the next time we visit my aunt and cousins.

Arriving at this restaurant my plus 1 seemed to be a real treat. The parking lot was packed to full, so we parked on the side street. Walking inside I felt comfortable and cozy with a splash of excitement due to the retro setting. I can appreciate the beautiful aesthetics and the comfortable environment. The service was quick, and the staff was attentive. Our waitress was gregarious and very kind. I tried the farmers omelette, turkey sausage, home fries, and whole wheat toast. The omelette was impeccable fresh, a true delight to my palate. The turkey sausage was an added treat, plump and juicy. The home fries were delectable given its balance of being crispy and soft at the same time. The toast is a standard taste everywhere unless you get stale bread. My plus one had the BLT which she really enjoyed but her home fries weren't to her liking due to the temperature of the food. I am giving a well-deserved four stars as this was a good find.

The interior gives that nostalgic retro diner feel. On a Saturday afternoon, our wait was about 25-30 mins, but it flew by quickly. Thomas's is beyond generous with their portions from the egg skillets to the pancakes. Prices are extremely reasonable for the portions. And most importantly, everything here is absolutely delicious. My fiance & I ordered two orders of the blueberry pancakes, which was a mistake because of how MASSIVE each order was; we could've easily split one. We also ordered the sides of corned beef hash and ham steak. Highly highly recommend both. The corned beef hash is SO delicious & homemade, and the ham steak is huge! The staff here are really lovely and attentive. Our coffee cups never went empty. Parking is available on site, but incredibly difficult to get a spot. I wouldn't bet on parking here - be prepared to park elsewhere and walk over. Definitely our new go to diner spot!
