I've missed this diner so much! It's been years since we have been in this area and when Hubs asked what I wanted to eat while out and about, I knew what I needed. Colony Diner's menu has all the things, but my favorite is this Rustic Omelette. Sausage, cooked apples, and a whole ton of American cheese make this amazing creation one of my favorite breakfasts of all time. This diner's home fries are pretty on par as well. Hubs, loved his burger as it was a nice sized and perfectly cooked. Bubs got what looked like an adult size chicken finger platter and scarfed that down. Finally, our server was the sweetest and was so kind to Bubs. Our server gave him a cookie when he was done, being so impressed with his eating, becoming Bub's new bff. Great breakfast on a Monday morning. Not too busy, staff were friendly, and food came out quickly. Lydia took good care of us and we enjoyed the 80s music playing overhead. The TVs had on sports and news. Location is accessible but there are 2 doors to pull open to get to the gender-specific bathrooms - could be difficult for someone in a wheelchair or with a walker. The desserts looked great in the case but they are not house-made, but might be made somewhere locally, hostess was not sure. Lots of "order by number" choices on the first page of the menu - hubby had #2 and I had #13. Lydia let me sub a pancake for the toast and home fries which was a good choice. The pancake came with butter and warm syrup. My coffee was hot & the omelette was delicious but looked more like a scramble on the plate. Hubby liked his meal too. Had a great experience here with some friends-we wanted diner food after playing intense pickleball for a few hours. The inside was very clean and welcoming and our waitress was very friendly and had a great sense of humor. The food was a bit pricey but the portion sizes were AMAZING. I got the Chicken Souvlaki and it was enough for three people! I was also able to get grilled onions and peppers with it, I was very happy about that. Also the home fries were well done-which I love and it came with a nice sized side salad. I also had a Matzah Ball soup which was light and tasty. Everyone else also loved their food--an omelet, steak and eggs (which was cooked perfectly), silver dollar pancakes and a massive gyro wrap. Everything came out hot and fast and all seemed to be very fresh-we all took home food that we had for another meal. I would absolutely go back to this diner when I am next in town. This is always my go-to area diner. I have been going here since the 90s. The food is always good and consistent. I usually enjoy breakfast food here. Also used to do the turkey burger deluxe with fries and onion rings. Always a win. I really enjoy coming to breakfast. There is something about their pancakes that are eggy and moist. The syrup hits these just right. I usually get a scrambled egg with cheese and some hash browns. horrible experience. to start I placed an order on Uber Eats for a simple chicken soup and a sweet tea. I waited almost two hours for it to arrive and when it gets here i receive a piece of cake and two random drinks. I'm allergic to peanuts and received a peanut butter cake. I called and the owner told me he attempted to cancel the order but the drivers spoke no english. why not just ask for my number or give me something else like chicken tenders or a grilled cheese? why dump random rotten cake in my delivery and expect that to be okay? I called in tears as I have Ben violently ill for a week and was desperalty waiting on this meal and instead I received a 5 dollar piece of stale cake I'm allergic to and two disgusting flat sodas. never again will I order from this shit hole. read more

Went on a Wednesday morning at 8:30 for breakfast. Ordered a decaf coffee. Was told we dont have that. Like, what? The order didn't come in, or we'll wait for a fresh pot to brew, or you dont carry it? Its on the menu! Not acceptable! Then I wanted a cheese Danish. I was brought a croissant! I give 3 stars because my husband, liked their waffle and pancake, but my omelette had no taste at all--I couldn't eat it. Even when I took it home for my dad, he couldn't eat it either. One of the top Hempstead Turnpike diners, for sure. Colony Diner is what I think of when I think diner. Stainless steel counter seating, mirrors everywhere, and a warm host welcoming you into an oversized booth, placing down a menu that looks like it could be a novel. I came here on a Monday afternoon for lunch with my mom and brother. All of us were in the mood for something a little different. My go-to diner order is a cup of matzoh ball soup and turkey cheeseburger, which is what I ordered. Unfortunately they'd just run out of turkey burgers, so I had to last minute switch to the turkey club as my back up. The matzoh ball soup here was a bit of a let down. It was a little overdone, not much flavor to the broth and no carrots, celery or onions, just the broth which really lacked. My turkey club made up for it, piled high with turkey and just the right amount of mayo. They brought out complimentary coleslaw and pickles which I appreciated. My mom got the cheeseburger deluxe which came with fries and two onion rings and looked delicious. My brother got the eggs benedict that was absolutely smothered in hollandaise in the best way. I'm still shocked at how high diner prices are in general these days, but for the state of the economy I think Colony's prices are pretty fair. The staff are really friendly, attentive and accommodating! I can't say enough positives and believe me, I know my diners! For diners it is def 5 stars ! They still have a huge menu and lots to choose from. Very accommodating to children. They have lots of booths, round tables for 6 and large booths that can hold prob 7-8 people. Very comfy. I've been coming to this diner for over 30 years. I work nights and have gotten to know the owners George, his brother Peter, and cousin Tommy. The past 3 times I've been here late night, they've closed an hour early. Each time Tommy has watched me at the door and not even acknowledged my existence. They have customers in the restaurant with the doors locked over an hour prior to their supposed 1AM on weekdays and 2AM on weekends closing time. How can you just stare at a regular customer of 30 years and not even acknowledge them standing outside wondering why in the last month you've closed over an hour early. While I was outside several other cars came by wondering the same thing. In this economy it must be nice to turn away customers and regulars. The food is great if you can get in. At the Colony, you are always greeted with a smile. The diner is sparking clean, the staff is friendly and attentive and the food is fresh and delicious!! Cool backstory of the restaurant of someone starting with Pennie's in his pocket and working to become successful. My daughter got Belgium waffles and said they were great. My son got eggs Benedict and enjoyed them. I got a ham and egg omelette. It was flat and browned too much. The potatoes with it were bland overcooked. The coffee was great though. Been going to the Colony Diner for years when in East Meadow (which is fairly often). Popped in there this past Sunday. As always, it was immaculate; the server attentive/friendly; the food great. Always happy to go there. And always happy to support local businesses with cash and not pay by cc. The last thing a restaurant ought to have on any TV, let alone every TV, is religious programming. I get it - there are issues these days with displaying news channels. No problem - ESPN, NEWS12, The Three Stooges, Nat Geo...plenty of options out there. I need a prayer service like I need a mouse in my soup. Cut it out. I'm going to make a point of returning one Sunday in the near future, and I will continue to be a patron until the day I see similar programming. read more

I expected a run of the mill diner experience and got a whole lot more. The staff was incredibly friendly and accommodating, but the real big surprise here was the food. Way above average diner quality and much more unique options. I highly recommend The Roadhouse sandwich (for good reason it's listed as the owner's favorite). I've also tried the spicy chicken wrap, which is good but nothing out of the ordinary, but the portion size is definitely generous. It can be a little bit pricier than your regular diner, but you definitely get what you pay for. The interior seems to be pretty new and is much more spacious than the exterior shows. Parking lot can be a little tight, so it may be worth the walk from the side streets. read more

We have been customers of the Colony Diner for many years; it is our go-to restaurant for breakfast and dinner. The gentleman at the front counter, when we go for breakfast, is a delight. Always friendly, always smiling, very congenial and speaks to everyone. However, when we went this weekend for dinner, the "gentleman" at the front was nasty and condescending. There was a party ahead of us and I just wanted to be sure that we were not jumping ahead of them; he got very nasty saying that it was his job to take care of customers and he was aware that they were waiting. I would have left right then, but it was a Saturday evening and other places nearby were packed. Our waiter was wonderful; upbeat and very friendly. Just wonderful; I was glad we stayed. I will say that I will probably return to this diner for breakfast when I know that this particular "greeter" will not be there. So rude and disrespectful. Someone should speak with him....... Was late arriving at hotel so stopped here for a quick bite. Service was very efficient and professional. Had a cup of chicken noodle soup. Noodles were long and there appeared to be a spinach leaf of two in it. Different but good. I had the Chinese roast pork sandwich which was thin slices of Chinese style roast pork on a bun toasted bun with garlic on it. Duck sauce was served on the side. Excellent and different sandwich. Oh man...after my wife and I got married we ended up at Colony Diner for our first meal as a married couple LOL (we weren't able to eat during our reception) so Colony was our spot. We strolled in around 1:30am in our wedding garb and were immediately seated. They've spaced out all tables and it felt good to see...we ended up in a booth which was nice. My newly minted wife ordered a grilled chee with bacon and a side of gravy. I did the Texas burger (I could be wrong but I think that's what it's called - forgiveness if I'm wrong). It was a monster burger with bacon, bbq sauce, onion rings, lettuce, onion and tomato (I dislike tomatoes tremendously and quickly chucked it to the side - tomatoes don't belong on burgers....it's a scientifically proven fact!!). Our waiter was nice but slightly distracted as he was tending to a handful of late-night tables which is expected at a diner at 1:30 in the morning. Otherwise our first meal as a married couple was awesome! It came with potato and vegetable, but I got two vegetables instead, the broccoli and spinach, both in oil and garlic. The quality of the food has gone down while the prices have gone up. I've been here a number of times and ordered Uber eats many more times. The burgers are dry and the salads look like a disaster. The sliced chicken that comes on top of the salad looks like it was cut with a butter knife. It is shredded into massive pieces. The first time I saw this, I thought it was a mistake but this is how they serve the sliced chicken over salad. I've seen this with the Cobb salad and the "Greek salad" (not at all resemblant of Greek salad)The worst item so far has been the buffalo chicken sandwich. Priced at $16 it is a thin slice of chicken with one slice of American cheese. No vegetables no presentation just an overpriced awful sandwich. I always enjoy eating at a good diner but the Colony was just average for me. My food seemed a bit overcooked and dry, as if it had been sitting under a heat lamp for a while. The server was very attentive and friendly but, unfortunately, that doesn't really do anything to improve the quality of the food.
