My first time in this dinner .. and i have to say i was very disappointed. It was a table of three and from the start the man in the front desk already looked annoyed didn't think much of it, he might of had a tough day then we ordered but they got our food messed up but i didn't want to be "those" customers and take back the food to the kitchen so i just let it be, just didn't want to make a fuss, and to note the dinner was not busy. At the end to pay i wanted to leave our waiter a tip but didn't notice the tip was supposed to be in cash i asked if we can just put it in the card the man from the front desk looked extremely annoyed about it and honestly the way he acted made me want to leave and not give any tip but i felt bad i just couldn't do that. This diner is far above the other local locations . The food is served so nicely and always as ordered. Friends and I visit this diner every Wednesday for lunch . 12-15 of us . All portions always come out at the same time and always served by a superior server, Elaine. She makes us all feel comfortable and always has the tables ready as we arrive . The day always starts with Erica the front desk hostess who welcomes us each week with a smile and escorts our large group to our tables for our fine luncheon . So I came into colony diner one of my favorite spots for years, my server a sweet little white girl probably straight out of high school, or maybe college. I'm there with two friends. My Asian friend brings it to my attention that another serving manager made her cry. Honestly it's not that serious or so I thought. I'm upset and walk over to find out what the problem was, He was balding and not the cashier guy cause he usually nice but also a balding guy and I'm not gonna lie I wasn't nice at all I was pissed and he wasn't nice either but when your working in the service industry ""customers always right"" but maybe i was wrong but I was so pissed because to make someone cry to the point they went to the back at 10pm at a serving position its so insensitive it just grinded my gears I got up and said hey baldy and before he could even answer me he said for the other bald guy to call 911 so instead of finding out the problem as big or small as it could be, I just left. My default is always breakfast (specifically the omelettes), but they have nearly everything you could think of: Burgers, salads, Italian, fish, sandwiches/wraps, Greek, your standard appetizers (mozzarella sticks, wings), and most importantly, a wide variety of pastries and desserts. Today my husband and I were starving after undergoing some medical tests requiring fasting. So around 10:45 on a rainy Tuesday morning we went into the Colony diner. Well we just made it in time for the "breakfast special" which turned out to be not special at all and kind of pricey. Boy they give you a large cup of not so great coffee which quickly turns tepid. Then the waitress forgot to ask us what kind of juice we wanted. Okay we got our juice and then waited some time for our food. My Swiss cheese omlette was lacking in filling and far from hot. The hash browns were overloaded with paprika. The rye bread was just okay. The waitress kindly gave me a small plate of fries when I complained about the potatoes. By then my eggs were cold and I left them unfinished. The prices here are really high. To top it off the ladies bathroom wasn't clean. I came home and had sone TUMS. read more

I've been here a couple of times and was never impressed but the service wasn't so bad that I needed to leave a poor review. Now after learning about the sexual harassment claims against this place I will never return. Just Google "colony diner lawsuit" and you'll see what I mean. I was there a few weeks ago and actually pointed out to my friends that it was weird there were no female employees... well now it makes sense, they must've left. On top of that I find it very strange that the owners are dressed in suits as if they are serving some high class food in there. My food has always been bland like they are trying to appeal to a picky eating 5 year old. And their coffee hands down is the worst thing I've ever tasted. Making coffee is not that complicated I feel like you really need to try to make coffee taste that bad. If anyone would like to try an awesome diner I suggest Thomas's diner in Carle place. It's small and usually packed but the service there is amazing, the food is good AND THE COFFEE IS TOO, they are super quick, so even if you have to wait you'll get a table soon I promise. The blueberry banana pancakes are one of kind and I've yet to find any place in the world that comes close to this recipe. I came here for breakfast with my little family and we had a great time. I didn't check the reviews before eating here but I am surprised about the mixed reviews. We had an incredible experience. The staff was so nice and accommodating. I had my 2 year old daughter and they were so so kid friendly. They got a high chair asap, a kids water cup, crayons and a kids coloring page to color on. I was very impressed because not many places do that any more. The staff was nice and the food came quickly. The prices were high i do agree with what certain people mention about the high prices. However, I would pay more for a kid friendly restaurant due to the fact I have a 2 year old. I see in the past that people have given mixed reviews but I would give them another chance because our breakfast was good and we received a lot of food. I really don't understand the 5 star reviews....this is by far the worst food I've had in a long time. I didn't think anyone can ruin breakfast food, but this wasn't just bad, it was gross. I don't usually say that about food, but this was so bad that neither my hungry husband nor I finished even half of our food. First off, it's one of the more expensive diners I've been to (even the waitress said, it's a little overpriced here!). But if the food was good, I would understand. The omelets are flat and bland. The home fries were THE most disgusting, bland, barely cooked mish mash I've ever had. The outer surface looked decently cooked, but the I side was just nasty potatoes. No onions (maybe 2 tiny pieces) or bell peppers. My coffee was basically water. My husband, who almost always finishes his food (and my leftovers) didnt finish his sad looking fries and certainly had nothing good to say about his omelet either. Well my appetite is large-and-in-charge at this early am hour Can Colony Diner handle the challenge? The place was lit up like Times Square, in the early morning. I couldn't miss it on Hempstead Turnpike. I pulled into their parking lot, so happy to find a diner open. I was immediately impressed with the beautiful modern design of the restaurant. Almost a mix of Art Deco and George Jetson. I almost expected Rosie the robot to serve me. The staff was courteous and friendly despite the early morning hours I saw the chicken and the basket special let's see how they make this meal here. I was pleased to see my fresh bread basket come to the table. In about 10 minutes later my fried chicken in a basket was served up ,cooked to crispy hot perfection. There were a few missteps and I attributed to it being 1 in the morning. My Cranberry sauce, turned out to be strawberry jelly. This was actually very funny. The waiter misread the jar, and gave me the wrong one. My mashed potatoes were a creation from another world. I do not think the ingredients were even in the periodic table. I can best describe the dish as an over whipped concoction of instant potatoes and Elmers glue. Served cold, it was immediately removed and compensated with a large M&M cookie. Yay! My coleslaw and pickle side dishes were understandably forgotten the sleepy haze of the early morning. All this being said of the few miscues, the courtesy and service here were excellent. Hey and where else am I going to get fried chicken at 1 a.m. I totally saw the humor in it all. I will absolutely return for another try at my favorite Chicken in a basket dinner. I go here time to time for a meal either for breakfast or dinner. The local diner has been here as long as I can remember. It was also featured on Jerry Seinfield's Comedians Getting Coffee In Cars series on Netflix. The kind of no frills and simple food. If I go for breakfast, I usually get the pancakes or egg platter with bacon and toast. For dinner I usually go for the cheeseburger with fries. Every meal they serve pickles and coleslaw to munch on while you wait for your food. They have a big menu so there are options for everyone. Service is generally good here. Depending when you go, the parking lot can get packed, but most times I don't have problems finding a spot. read more

The host/hostess is always well dressed and pleasant. The waitresses/waiters are always good to talk to. For my 100th Yelp review, I'm updating my years old review of the Colony Diner. Let me echo my older sentiments that the Colony is the best diner in East Meadow. Perhaps it is unfair for me to say this since I have not had the chance yet to try the Grand Stage, but I can't emphasize enough the great quality of food that reliably comes out of this establishment. The Apollo has definitely been improving over the years and comes in close at second place. What makes the Colony so great to me is that you can be there at 1pm or 1am and you'll get the same consistent great tasting meal. I went with two friends recently and got one of my favorites, the NY panini. I also got a slice of cake. I left with a very full stomach and a huge smile on my face. I look forward to my next visit, maybe I'll try something new after getting the same few things over the years. read more
