Perfect bacon, gluten free toast, really good drip coffee... I was thrilled to find this place after finding insanely long waits at several less appealing breakfast places. We were staying in Crescent City, but made the trip to Compass Rose two days in a row because I loved the club sandwich. I can't have cheese or gluten so I got the turkey club on GF bread with no cheese. The GF bread is amazing, and the sandwich was loaded with bacon and turkey. It can be very difficult when traveling to find a place that has anything to offer for a vegan breakfast. I was happy to find such a place in Brookings at the Compass Rose Cafe. I went during the lunch hour, but their entire menu is available all day. The sandwiches looked good, but the breakfast burrito looked better, simply because it had hash browns in it. I went with the burrito. It was amazing. The hash browns inside the burrito taste great! The black beans are seasoned and delicious, and they don't put too many in such that it overpowers the rest of the ingredients. The remaining goodies consisted of very fresh veggies, including spinach. If you've ever had off spinach ruin a meal, you'll understand what a good thing it is to have good fresh spinach. I am looking forward to my next visit already. read more

What a great find! We always hear about another more popular place, but didn't want to feel rushed or in a crowded, busy place, and this was perfect - food cooked the way you want, even 1 egg with fresh veggies, since we already had a light breakfast earlier.... I'm giving a generous two star review. When we arrived, there was one other party in the cafe, completing their meal. Two of us ordered simple lunches, one was a special of the day. It took 35 minutes to arrive. Neither lunch was exceptional, simply ordinary. In addition, our waiter never asked if we wanted anything to drink. We settled for the glass of water that we both did get without asking. There are other choices in Brookings, we'll favor the others and skip the Compass Cafe. read more

Had our order taken at 9:40 half order of biscuits and gravy and toast with avocado and egg. Two groups that ordered ten minutes after we had ordered, they received their food at 10:20 and we still had not received our order. I went to the the waitress and said I want to pay for our coffees, the waitress walked away then came back and said sorry, and that I did not have to pay for the coffee. What has happened to restaurants, I can remember when a restaurant would comp one of the orders if the order was forgotten. This has been my go-to place for breakfast for about 3 years now. The owner, Rose, is kind, caring and professional. She's always served me with a smile and frequently asks how my son is. As for the rest of the staff, all of them are absolutely amazing. Victoria is always quick to bring us our usual drinks and food as soon as she sees us come in. She has our orders memorized and we rarely have to tell her what we would like. Now there's one waitress in particular who I look forward to seeing every time she's in, her name is Tristan. She has a personality that can improve anyone's day and is quick to shine a positive light on any situation. One day the power went out all over town except for a few places (The Cafe still had power) and her daycare got shut down because of it. This single mom had to deal with a restaurant full of people and chase around her small child. She did an impeccable job of maintaining her cool, keeping up with customers, and trying to be a mom at the same time. It saddens me that people can't be kind enough to understand sometimes things are out of people control and they need a little patience, so please do not base your whether or not you do business here by the review about her having her child with her. What is a single mom supposed to do? Not go to work and make money to support her household because of a power outage, or work her ass off to be a kick ass employee and mom? These people are all amazing, the service keeps me coming back weekly for 3 years. The food is excellent as well, I highly recommend the Traditional for a simple tasty meal. read more

My husband and I happened to discover this delicious breakfast/lunch cafe on our drive through Brookings, OR. I am gluten free and had no shortage of options for breakfast. I opted for the heirloom tomato quiche which had a delicious potato crust and creamy goat cheese and tomato filling.
