Went for a quick lunch. Parking is along the street (downtown vibes) so you may have to walk a bit. The workers are very kind! They explained the menu well. BANANA MATCHA LATTE: strong banana flavor, pretty sweet. MAZAPAN LATTE: yummy toasty mazapan flavor with some crumbled bits in there to add texture GRILLED CHEESE: very cheesy with a nice crunch from toasted bread. good depth of flavor from the multiple types of cheeses. cutely decorated as well. was a tiny bit greasy TORTA DE JAMON: thick amount of meat and loaded with saucy flavors. delicious! Overall would come back!
In a town with many matcha options I chose to come to Con Azucar because their specialty drink options caught my attention. I absolutely love Horchata and I love Matcha as well so when I saw that they had a combined option called the Horchata Matcha I was absolutely thrilled. The taste did not disappoint. I tried both the hot and cold version and had no complaints on either. Creamy, cinnamon, smooth and reasonably priced. The cafe is decorated very cute. Vibrant colors and a cute grass wall for the perfect selfies of either yourself or your drinks. Staff was nice and the store holds a corner location so it's easy to find.
Usually when items are sized up, they lose flavor, moisture, something.To my surprise, the Big Concha taste exactly as the average one, in fact, maybe a little more flavorful! The service was very quick. The workers looked like they were on a mission to deliver great customer service. I wouldn't recommend the Big Concha if you're alone (unless you burn an extra 5,000 calories a day), but it's definitely worth getting if to share at the office or with friends!
The service here is always good, the drinks are delicious and so is the food and bakery items! My family and I have tried the conchas, cookies, and tortas here and they were all delicious! My favorite drink is probably the mazapan latte! The vibes are cute too, love the decor!
I came here with my family as a quick coffee stop before leaving to San Diego. I was so amazed by this spot! The vibes inside are amazing and incredibly done. There's a swing for pictures with a slower back drop and roses on the ceiling. It was so pretty inside. The menu is pretty big, it was a little intense for our first time. They had a lot of cool options, even one where you can get a character printed in foam on your latte! All the pan dulce looked amazing too. Personally, I ended up getting the Duvalin latte and a cute bag of mini pan dulce. My coffee was so yummy! It tasted like strawberry milk was in my coffee, but in a good way. The bag of pan dulce was so cute! It had piggies, mini concha's, and the sugar croissant breads inside. All were very delicious and well made. My daughter got the pineapple fresca, which I tasted. It was the best pineapple Fresca I have had in a long time. I was very impressed! The rest of my family was very happy with their drinks too. Not only was the staff super friendly here, but the customers were too! A regular customer there saw me and my family contemplating with the menu and gave us drink advice. Everything about the experience was just great! Whenever I happen to return to this area of Cali I will have this spot in the top of my list to return to.
This is such a cute coffee shop! As a lover of Mexican coffee, I come pretty often. My favorite is the horchata iced latte, but their cafe de olla is good too. I ordered the torta de jamón and was satisfied with it. The service was good and efficient, despite how busy they were!
Had seen this coffee shop on IG and since I was passing by I decided to stop by! Love the ambiance, it's a modern day Hispanic coffee shop in downtown San Jose. Coffee would be as typical as any other coffee shop, I think the draw to this coffee shop is the nostalgia and nice decorations. Pass by check it out for yourself! You be the judge. Overall had a good experience.
My mom has been wanting to try this place for awhile. We were in town and decided to check it out. I do not know how this place has so many people after our experience here. We walked in ordered at the tablet they have for self ordering. They were out of the giant concha which was a bummer. We got three mini pan dulces. They were fine and small in size than regular pan dulce. We ordered the mini rosca and then later told they were out prob due to them losing our order. They do have a variety bag with different ones you can take to go. We waited waited and waited I walked over to the coffee barista and asked her if our order was coming up as multiple people had come and gone. They said no we don't have an order for you so I asked if she could ask. They said the order had not printed so once they found it they told us it would be made. Waited and waited some more. I finally was just going to ask for a refund after an hour or waiting for two coffees and a small hot chocolate. The seasonal toasted marshmallow drink was good and my churro latte was good. The abuelita hot chocolate was hot water. No flavor or chocolate in sight. We would have said something but seeing how the process was going we just called it a loss. It's a small place with a couple tables so seating is limited. They have some seats outside also. Also a small section with merchandise with cute mugs and bowls for sale. Overall not a great experience with the customer service and experience. I am so understanding of mistakes but if you say you are going to make it right and get out order done since it was your error , do that but instead we waited more and had to walk up and tell her our order as it was made incomplete.
We enjoyed the food! We got the torta de jamon and the club sandwich! The food was good and filling! Would come here for the food. The drinks were good, just very sweet! This may be good for some but too sweet for us. On doordash they don't let you substitute milks.
Beautiful aesthetics and such a great vibe place, staff could be a little more customer service but it's a Tuesday early morning and maybe just a little getting ready for the day. Delicious variety and beautiful display, warm and delicious conchas that you can tell that our freshly made. Will definitely be coming back enjoyed that I was not rushed to leave.
What a cute little place! Great for a photo op or just for a little coffee date between you and a friend. They have great pastries and coffee. There wasn't much of the line where we went, but the lady said that they're usually is but we went on a weekday. Definitely wanna try to get a vibe in a line. We're gonna come back to this place. We wanna have some nice coffee and sweet bite.
Love this spot in DTSJ! Parking is all street parking but it's pretty doable to find around the block. The decor on the inside is really cute as well. I love the horchata and Mazapan lattes! And the presentation of the drinks is really cute, with the rims of the drinks being lined with chocolate almonds for the Mazapan and cinnamon sugar for the Horchata! Recommend coming here for a sweet treat
I'm giving this place two stars: one for the food and one for some of the staff. When we arrived, the staff wasn't very welcoming. After waiting a few minutes to order, we were told to use the kiosk because the register wasn't working, which was totally fine. However, immediately after we placed our order at the kiosk, the staff proceeded to take the order of the customers behind us at the register. We assumed it was a coincidence and didn't think much of it at the time. The food itself was great. The presentation was decent, and everything was flavorful. My fiancé and his dad shared a super large concha, and I had a torta--both were delicious. We also shared a large coffee, which tasted great, but it was too big for us to finish. Since we aren't wasteful, we shared some with our table neighbors and planned to take the rest to go. This is where our experience went from okay to disappointing. My fiancé went to ask for to-go cups so we could take the remaining coffee. One of the staff members responded rudely, saying they could "only give us a few cups." My fiancé said that was fine since we were already sharing with our neighbors. However, we weren't given enough lids, so he went back to ask for lids, not more cups. The worker snapped back, saying she had already given us enough cups and couldn't give us more--again, he wasn't asking for cups. Because of how rude she was, my fiancé didn't want to approach her again. When we needed trays, his dad asked instead, and she was rude to him as well, insisting she had already given us enough cups--when he was clearly asking for trays. It felt like she wasn't listening at all and was just making assumptions. As we were leaving, I also saw this same worker pointing at us while talking to her coworker and referring to us as "them," which was very unprofessional. If there is a policy about not providing to-go containers, that's completely understandable--but it should be communicated politely. I work in the service industry myself, and the way this situation was handled was rude and disrespectful. Because of this experience, I will not be returning or recommending this place to others, even though the food itself was good.

I'm an after the hype type of girl! It has taken me this long to go visit Con Azucar! I follow them on TIKTOK and Instagram, and just so you know everything you see online is what you get in person. It was a cold and raining day but as soon as I entered, I felt at home. I found street parking no problem, not sure if there is another option. I took a look at the menu, which has lots of options. The nice lady at the counter let me know what the most popular hot and cold drinks were as well as food items. I got the abuelita Chocolate coffee, club sandwich and the mini pan dulce. I stayed and enjoyed my sandwich and coffee but was way too full to even taste the pan dulce, so I took it home. The club sandwich was nice and warm with lots of flavor and the coffee was warm and not too sweet. A few days later at home I tried the pan dulce fully expecting it to not be wo fresh, boy was I wrong. This has to be hands down the best pan dulce I have ever had. Fresh, moist with lots of flavor! The ambiance is great for picture taking and just great conversational pieces. I can't wait to go back! read more

Visited this cafe while I was in San Jose, we tried the giant concha, cafe de olla, chocolate abuelita, and a matcha. The drinks were pretty standard, though the cafe de olla was too sweet compared to what our family makes. Concha was very delicious and dense yet soft, definitely the highlight. Seating was tough, there were tables with empty cups/plates that no one picked up after so we cleaned up a table ourselves to have a seat. read more

I wish I had a photo of the torte my bf had bc apparently that was the best thing we got lol. He said the amount of mayo veggies and meat were very well proportioned and the avocado was ripe and creamy. I can definitely see why people enjoy their drinks, however I do think if you love coffee for the sake of just the espresso taste I wouldn't say it's extraordinary. If you don't want a super sweet drink I would choose marzipan over the dulce. I think if I were to come back I'd go back for the food and a simple latte :-) read more

Definitely something to experience. The avocado toast was spongy. But it was definitely loaded. The sizes of the giant concha and giant coffee are comical and photo worthy. Trendy place for sure. Coffee had good flavors, but is on the sweeter side. Concha was on the dry side. Wouldn't come back to pay $100 for the hype. Cute little swing inside is good for photos too! Service could be better. Seemed like no one wanted to be there lol. Also don't come to study bc the table plugs will likely not work. Better luck with a walk plug. read more
Decided to stop by without knowing it was their one year anniversary and was pleasantly surprised to see they had mariachi and dj playing. While the wait was extremely long (an hour), I'm not sure if it's usually like that or if it was like that because of their celebration. Didn't order any food, but I did order the Duvalin Latte, Pepino con Limon Refresher as well as the Horchata Latte. The Duvalin Latte was a little too sweet for me, but was super flavorful. The Horchata Latte was definitely my favorite. And the Pepino Refresher, essentially an agua fresca, with the tajin rim was really good. read more
The drinks were good, I would say if I came back I'd typically would ask for an extra shot or two, I like my drinks strong and bold with coffee flavor, these were more dessert drinks and very milky, which I guess is the point so no complaints. Their tortas though are fire. The bread was very fresh and pillowy and the proportions of meat to mayo to veggies were on point, the ingredients hold up well and don't spill out too much when biting down into it! read more

This people likes to show their big bread "concha" my family and I went there and it was a big disappointment! The bread way to dry, their drinks taste worse, I had the horchata coffee and it was bad, do not go there, you'll waste your time and money.. there's other Mexican bakeries or markets where their bread is so much better in San José area as well.. something funny, they just blocked my Instagram account because I was responding everyone on their comments warning them about this so they don't fall the same way we did and I guess they did not like that and got blocked You whomever sees this comment from "con azúcar café" you should be ashamed to make people think that your bread is delicious just because it's big..at least try your best to actually make it better!! We will never go there and I'll make sure to warn people about you!! read more

The place is cute. The ambiance is nice. They forgot a couple of my orders, but to their credit, it was pretty busy when we went, so its understandable. The coffee is reasonably priced, but I did not get to try the large pan dulce and cafe they are famous for :(. We got the selfie-ccinos and a cafe de olla, and the selfie-ccinos are pretty neat. However, the biggest deal breaker for me is that everything was way too sweet (I mean, it is called Con Azucar, so what did I expect lol). Personally, I like my coffee black or with very little sweetness, so I did not enjoy my Cafe de Olla, so I won't be going back, but that's my personal preference. I'd still recommend this place just to try to experience their selfie-ccinos. read more

I went late a night around 8:15-8:20pm to buy a Rosca and I was just disappointed. Yes I did buy it for 50%off if you got there before 8:30 and just let me tell you that I was really looking forward to it with my hot chocolate. All I got was a stale Rosca that went to the trash. read more

First time here, and definitely won't be the last. Saturday morning service was prompt and very friendly. Special shout out to the Cashier Jovana (I hope I spelled it correctly), she took her time to explain to my elderly parents, the menu. She made us feel welcomed going above and beyond! Food was incredible! We had the grilled cheese and a torta de Jamón and it was sublime! I had an iced duvalin Latte and it's a perfect mix, not overly sweet. Definitely recommend!!! read more

I tend to try most new downtown San Jose food businesses and found Con Azucar while I was walking past it on Santa Clara Street. Being a coffee lover I had to try the place when it opened. Over two visits here I have tried the Cappuccino, latte and Caprese toast. Liked all three. Their coffee is one of the better ones in the area with a surprising added touch of machine created foam art (examples attached). The Caprese toast with avocado spread was very good. The staff is very friendly and the place is nicely designed. Try it out. read more

This place is always amazing. It's my go-to neighborhood coffee shop. The food is pretty good and is served in huge portions (seriously. Split an avocado toast). Service is always fast and good. My drink order is always correct and I get it pretty quick even during the rush hour. Ambiance is pretty fun and quirky, the place features a swing with a wall decorated with greenery behind it perfect for the insta-selfies. Coming here at or past 9am one can expect a pretty long line, often going outside of the building. It's so worth it though! I'll keep coming here for my chai tea with horchata instead of milk. Horchata should be added to the milk alternatives! read more

The hype is real, the line is always out the door for a reason!! Decided to give them a try, tried the Cafe de Olla and some Conchas and everything was delicious. Went on pretty busy day so I had to wait in line for a bit but it was worth it. Really nice place! read more

Coffee is mediocre at best. I had the dulce de leche latte which was basically iced coffee with loads of syrup. I also tried their torta; that was pretty good. My friend had the club sandwich, nothing worth trying again. We had to remove the slice of bread in the middle. Also they put too much mayo making it very greasy. I did enjoy the aesthetic and their wall art. Definitely a great place for pics. We took a few on their swing. They also don't tell you your order number if you select no receipt. It made things a bit confusing as they would just call out the orders by food name and obviously there were multiple people ordering the same thing so you're not sure whether it's yours or not. They ask for a name but only use it for drinks. read more
I am sad to give one star, but it was really bad both in flavor and quality of the products used as well as very slow and inatentive service. The only think I love was the Frida Kahlo mural. That is the only reason that I went there to start with. The art is impecable but that alone does not sustain the place. Overpriced avocado toasts . Avocado spread and some slices of avocado on soggy Bimbo common bread. Terrible terrible. I can't believe they charge that much for something that probably cost them 50 cents. I felt that was totally ripped off. Coffee was mediocre. Cucumber drink ok. Worth the long wait to take some selfies under the plastic flowers? No. Also beware of shady people outside, i did not feel it was a pleasant place to have brunch at all. read more

Menu is very very very vague. Ordered a horchata and for some reason it had coffee in it.... Isn't it supposed to be rice milk and cinnamon?? I can't drink coffee so I tried ordering a non-coffee drink aka horchata. Nowhere on the menu does it list "coffee" or any other coffee bases added to drinks. If you can't drink coffee or have allergies to specific items, MAKE SURE TO ASK BEFORE ORDERING because they won't give you a refund :( Before someone tells me "coffee shops serve coffee", I understand that. This place used to be a Starbucks. I'm saying that if generic coffee shops like Starbucks have a "Non-Coffee Menu", then private coffee shops like this should have one clearly labeled as well. When I brought it up to the cashier, they RUDELY said I should've told them before ordering and that I shouldn't go to a coffee shop and not expect to get coffee in your drink??? What is that supposed to mean??? They didn't offer to remake it or refund me, so at this point, I was fuming. Not to mention, I'm still unsure if one of the staff in the back called me a racial slur... It was loud, so I may have misheard it. It was certainly well timed though. Since my PREVIOUS YELP was deleted. I'm now giving this place a 1 start review. Let's just say the atmosphere is nice and that's about it. Yes they are new but this is a hyped up place with bland to no flavor coffee and not so great service. Let's start yet again with the drinks I ordered the iced coffee with soy milk and horchata syrup. It came out with whole milk so I asked for it to be made again and they made it without the syrup so it was basically all soy milk w a splash of coffee seriously why bother even asking for them to fix it AGAIN. My cousin ordered a hot drink The Latte which she added an image too. Very Instagram worthy. But it was all milk and no coffee flavor. Now the food. I ordered a torta de Jamon and let's just say I'll stick to my usual panaderia spot on Julian. We also got the grilled cheese. The cheese was good. But the bread was not toasty and she said it reminded her of the Bambino bread. She wasn't wrong it was too soggy. We also got two concha cupcakes. Those were questionable. I refused to try them; as we were waiting we were offered pan dulces samples that were probably a day or more old. The sample crumbled between my fingers and was super hard. No gracias. Not sure if I'll try this place again. I don't want to wait in line again and be disappointed. read more

The place is really nice but I feel they were rushing the orders and weren't giving you the full experience. Ordered to stay got my order in to go boxes. Running out of whip and not doing the customized selfie-chino (young lady ringing me up said the line was too long) after waiting in the line they should have announced no whip or customized drinks. read more

So excited to come and give it a try... wanted to come and try their conchas.... 6:30pm no conchas... no more bread for the avocado toast or capresse toast. No grilled cheese very disappointed. Hot chocolate had no taste whatsoever... the prices are not worth it Nice atmosphere. read more

Any Price for the BIG concha and giant coffee?
I went right after Thanksgiving and large coffee was $50. Concha's had two prices: large long one was $50, smaller round one was slightly cheaper.
Can I make a reservation?
You cannot. Also, dining tables are first come first served. Very limited.
What is the best time to go without a long wait?
Middle of the week 1st thing in the morning.
Are the big concha's made to order and if so what's the time wait?
They are available daily as first come first serve.

Yes you can !! It's not just advertising
Does the pan have egg in it? Are there any vegan options?
I'm not sure; but you can request a vegan option.
How do you get the artwork done on your hot drinks?
You have to have the image on your phone. When you hand your phone to the barista make sure that your photo is ready. You pay a small fee to have it on your drink. Super fast and easy.
Can you order online?
Not yet but Con Azucar announced that they will be on DoorDash soon.
Are the syrups dairy free? And is the horchata dairy free? I know some places put condensed milk or…
They are not lactose free (I'm lactose intolerant).... They are also not dairy free (from a friend with a milk allergy)... Finally, their drinks pretty much all contain caffeine or coffee base, including the horchata. They changed the menu recently…
Do they have gluten free baked goods?
Unsure if there are any gluten free baked goods... As far as I know, the concha and sandwiches aren't gluten free. Assume it isn't gluten free unless specially indicated.
Do they have lactose free or non dairy milks?
Yes they do! I believe they have soy & oat milk
