Great Food. Pizza can be kinda hella x-pensive, but the rest of the menu is solidly priced. There's a lot of offers and promotions here. Especially if you go to Sox games. Huge Parking Lot. I've been here for small gatherings, big parties(both catered and a la carte), and have had take out and delivery. Almost always a pleasant experience. And the one time I had aproblem, they gave me a free pizza. So, you know, customer delight kicked in. Even thier frozen offerings kick ass. In short, GO. NOW. P.S. When I think of pizza joints to take my family to if they visit me in Chicago, I think of Connie's pizza. I know, we've got Uno's and Geno's East and (to a much lesser extent) Giordano's. Connie's is still the place I'd choose. Even when it's a busy time of night on a busy day (my last visit was at prime dinnertime hours on Father's Day), the "45-50 minute" wait turned out to be less than 10 minutes. It's a place big enough to still have room for more people at almost any given time. And their pickup area for phone-in orders makes things even speedier - my friends and I used to use this service quite a lot for our weekly Friday Night Pizza with TV and Video Games. Sometimes that was the better option, as even though it's big enough for so many people, the acoustics inside mean that it sounds very loud and you'll have to almost shout to hear people at your table sometimes. But I think that's what makes it "family style" - or maybe my family just yells a lot... While I'm not an expert on their entire menu, I've been with enough people enough times to have an idea of what's good. The pizza is fabulous, of course. I prefer either the BBQ Chicken pizza or the stuffed pizza. And yes, I get mine "26th Street style", which means no extra sauce on the top. It's like eating a true "pizza pie". The pasta is better-than-average, but the meat sauce makes it truly good. Their ribs were less than spectacular sauce-wise and tiny-bone-wise, but at least they were tender and juicy. Our favorite appetizer will always be the loaded fries, because fries with cheese and bacon and green onions will always be delicious - with or without the Cajun dipping sauce that comes with 'em. And if you're lucky enough to have saved room for dessert, I have to recommend the "Ice Box Cake". It's a dollar cheaper than the other menu items, and no matter how good you find the double chocolate cake or strawberry cheesecake, the simplicity and immensity of this "cake" will top them all. It's Connie's signature dessert, comprised of a layer of vanilla pudding, a layer of bananas and a layer of chocolate pudding, all with a graham-cracker crust. And it's huge. Totally worth it, every time. Maybe your overly-stuffed friends will beg you for just one small bite and see the error of their ways when they failed to heed your warning about saving room for dessert! Location: Conveniently located just past Chinatown off of 55. Plenty of free parking available in a Connie's-patron parking lot. Atmosphere: We ate outside in a cutely appointed outside deck with candlelit tables and comfortable chairs (a first for us in outdoor dining!). Quality: The delicious stuffed pepperoni pizza--complete with hand-thrown crust--took a bit longer than I would have liked (~40 minutes), but to Connie's credit, we had ordered the spinach-artichoke dip as an appetizer. The dip was tasty but unnecessary, since the pizza was very filling, and the server brought delicious artisan bread to the table for free. Value: A real Chicago pizza at a sit-down joint for $15? Awesome! Service: This was the only thing that was really lacking. The waitress was very nice (and apologetic about her infrequent check-ins), but there were only two servers handling all 15 or so tables on the deck. Now that I've been to this location a couple of times and have had delivery from here a couple of times, I think I can write a fair review. I love the decor, the stone floors, the super high wood ceilings, the checkerboard table thingies, how it feels open and spacious. They can easily accommodate big groups of people without blinking an eye. The food is really great, I'm fond of their stuffed pizza, probably my favorite stuffed 'za. The sauce is nice and tangy without being too acidly, and the crust has a certain something to it that just makes it super good, and no other place quite has that taste. The BBQ chicken version was surprisingly good (I am more of a traditional sauce fan), and today I had a personal size with pepperoni and green olives, YUM. For dessert? Its all about the ice box cake, just try it for yourself once and you'll agree! The only thing that I've tried on the menu that I was not a big fan of was their ribs, they had a good flavor but were kind off dry and bony. As for the service? I think our waitress was having a really off day today, she was friendly and all but forgot lots of important things. Like water refills, and bread plates, and plates for our loaded fries appetizer (How did I not mention these yet, fries covered in cheese sauce, bacon bits, and green onion, Mmmmm). The service is the only thing that kept them from that fifth star in my book. It's just that both my visit's here it was the same type of deal. If the pizza in the restaurant is the same pizza that was served at the Chicago auto show, Connie's will never see me as a customer. There was such little cheese on the pizza that I couldn't even taste it. It basically was a slice of dough with almost no sauce topped with a thin sheet of cheese. I got a love hate relationship with Connies. This is probably my 4th or 5th pizza from them. I like their pizzas a lot. I usually go for the Connies Cheese with sausage, peppers, and mushrooms. And they taste great. For whatever reason, their delivery takes forever and I don't live far. On top of that, the pizza I just got delivered to me looked like it was tossed around. When I lived in Pilsen many years ago, this was one of the ONLY places that would deliver to me on Allport. Pilsen was not the hip mecca it is now...so I feel a special sort of loyalty to Connies because they delivered average Italian fast food to a neighborhood that other restaurants thought sketchy. Took my dad here for Valentines day since he was bringing me back from my Iowa Sabbatical. He adored the decor and kept mentioning how guilty he felt because it was Valentines day and he wasn't taking my mom out for a special lunch. The place is pretty cute with big cans of tomatoes and Campari ads all around.... Waitstaff was efficient and got everything correct from the bread to the drinks. The food was timed perfectly from the soup to entrees. The soup of the day was cream of chicken and it was really really good! I had the chicken and broccolli tortellini and it was also really fresh and good. Seemed to be handmade tortellini. Again, pretty amazed. I was actually pretty impressed because I thought of Connies as just a pizza joint for late night delivery. My dad says we HAVE to come back....so I guess I will be returning! Absolutely the worst pizza I have had in my life... including the 5 for $5 frozen pizzas. I struggled with giving it another try, but nothing has enticed me to do so. I argued that a number of things were playing against me (4th of July, later in the evening order, carryout/drive-thru) - but nothing can be attributed to the pizza itself. Two points (the drive-thru lady was nice + the pizza came out while I was sitting at the drive-thru and was piping hot) Had I made up a completely ridiculous pizza design, it would perhaps justify the pizza coming out the way it did; however, I just ordered the menu listed bbq chicken pizza (w/o chicken). Nothing more, nothing less. What I received back was a pizza that didn't have a marinara base (it should NOT have) NOR did it have the bbq base (hmm.) The toppings from the menu were listed as roasted red peppers and onions. Both were on the pizza, mushy and wet with melted cheese on top. It seems like they sauteed the toppings in a bucket of oil - lightly strained them and put them on the pizza. Which in-turn made the crust extremely soggy and the cheese/toppings just slid right off. Needless to say, I was so confused as I looked at this pizza on my countertop picking thru it, that I never made it to my dining table to eat. I was attending a convention at the McCormick Convention Center and needed a place to take 18 people during one of the lunch breaks. From my first call to Fran and Edgar at this Connie's location, I knew I had chosen well. I had very specific requirements, including asking them to pick us up at the convention center in their shuttle and take us back. I pre-ordered food and did a family-style menu. The shuttle worked out perfectly! The food was excellent and came out on time and hot! The service during our lunch was fantastic. Every year, in different cities, I set up this lunch for 18 people and am always nervous about how it will go. However, Fran put my mind at ease through the whole process. She was totally on top of it, which made me feel less anxious about everything going smoothly. Thanks to them, I had a very successful lunch and would go there again in a heart beat! read more

We had my sons Baptism after-party here and I have to say everything exceeded my expectations. Edgar and his team were wonderful, very accommodating and attentive for the entire 2.5 hours we were there. Our party got there a little early and they were all set-up ready to accommodate. They had a table set-up for gifts, our cake and cookies when we got there and took drink orders as soon as everyone sat down. They even adjusted our appetizer order at moment's notice and were extremely nice to all our guests. They also individually boxed the leftovers so people could take them as they departed. Their thin crust pizza is what most people would consider "normal" pizza, but in Chicago it's considered thin due to the deep dish/stuffed nature people are used to. With that, I must say it's absolutely delicious. The right amount of cheese and toppings, and it just tastes so fresh. Their artichoke and flatbread makes me feel like I've died and gone to heaven. It's MUCH better with soft chips (pita bread textured), being as I don't like the actual crunchy ones. I've been here twice for the pizza Monday deal, and the 2nd time I got the dip I didn't like it much because all of my flatbread chips were crunchy like potato chips. If I were to base my appetizer experience based on that one time alone, I probably would not have ordered it again, but I know how amazing it is when the chips are soft! Our waiters are always friendly and attentive however the first time I came here with my boyfriend, we were sitting at our table for 5-7 minutes before anyone came over to us, but the last time we were here, our waitress more than made up for it. She gave my boyfriend and I a carafe of our drink so we didn't have to continuously ask for refills which I loved because that's almost unheard of. I've been going to Connie's for years & never have never had a problem. The service, food & ambiance has always be good. I've eaten everything from the pasta, pizza & salads. Everything I've had eaten has all been great too. The last visit the manager, Edgar, came by the table & had a nice chat with us. He was affable and his good nature definitely added to an already great experience. I'd recommend the (thin crust) pizza or the lasagna. I have not been here in years. The place looked the same with the warehouse look with the cans with tomato sauce on the shelves. We got the deep dish cheese so delish with the great tomato sauce. We got the thin crust sausage my parents said it was good. We also got the garlic bread for an appetizer while we were waiting for our pizza. The penne pasta with tomato sauce was also good. The waiter was nice and even gave us refills when we almost ran out of our drinks. I would say that I would go back it is definitely a good place for Chicago style pizza. read more

I ordered an Italian sausage sandwich with red sauce and fries.The order was written correctly on the ticket BUT there's wasn't any red sauce and the fries were beyond horrible. Fries were super greasy, cold and after trying a couple I ended up tossing them in the trash. I called to complain and was told "sorry I'll let the kitchen know". I give Connie's a 3.5 overall rating. It's not bad at all. In fact it's quite good. I enjoy the pizza! I cannot say it stands out over other great Chicago pizza places, because it's nothing unique. The food is good, however, and I have no complaints, but I also don't have anything special to report that makes Connie's great. In other words it's not superior to most other normal pizza joints. The appetizers, such as the salad and calamari are average. Nothing bad, but nothing great. So, I would rate these items a 2 to a 3. They're alright! The décor, old style tomato sauce cans, pictures on the walls, old fashioned equipment, the black and white photos, as well as machines from the industrial era are super cool! It gives Connie's a nice touch. I would definitely say this place is family friendly and the staff seems nice. What most stands out is that the owner is often on hand. He is such a nice man, a gentleman really. He is kindhearted and sincere. He will give you a genuine smile and a warm greeting. In other words, he takes care of you, and he makes you feel welcome. I purchased a slice of Connie's pizza from Soldier Field's football stadium, and it was horrible! The pizza did not have any cheese and a few sausages. To top it off, it was overpriced. We stopped by for a nice lunch. We were seated promptly, and the waitress was pleasant, quick and patient. I was impressed that she handled both the large tables and small tables well. We ordered starters and drinks. The nicest surprise was that a group of Chinese entertainers came in to celebrate the Lunar New Year, It was so cool to see the dragon and hear the drums! We had a great thin crust (agree with the comment, it's more like a 'hand tossed' pizza with cheese, broccoli, and ground turkey. We even ended the meal with a fresh and tasty Tiramisu. I've already reviewed the Connie's in Westmont, but I don't think there is much difference between the two. This restaurant is a bit fancier and seems more like a place you'd take a date. The food is always excellent but the prices are outrageously high. A pizza can cost you almost $30 depending on what kind of crust you want and the toppings you choose. It's really irritating that they charge so much for Chicago-style pizza. I could just as well go to Giordano's or Gino's to get similar pizza for a much better price. They do, however, have a lunch buffet that is most excellent. However, I'm never around for the lunch hour so I never make my way in there. read more

Dessert - Brownie w/ ice cream (Tastes homemade) Day 2: Appetizer - Spinach Dip (I was reluctant because no one makes spinach dip as good as MUAH!) ;-) Pleasantly surprised that it was pretty good, seasoned well. I love Connie's, it's the standard to which I hold all other pizza. Cheese or sausage, more than one ingredient is overkill on this pizza. It's a perfect balance. They also have a tasty baked rigatoni, and their ice box cake (do they still have this?) is so simple and tasty. Bananas and grahm cracker crust, with pudding. Yum. Oh, and the meatballs in the minestrone have caused many arguments between me and my sisters. We always wanted the last one from my dad's bowl. (You usually get one or two.) Do NOT get delivery.........The last five times I had food delivered the orders we WRONG with no resolution. Then, the last time I ordered the driver gave my salad to the wrong house and was going back to get it. Nooooo I dont know what those ppl did to my salad. I called and was told they would send me a new one immediately (which was 35 min later). Then my Boyfriend was so mad that they get our order wrong every time he called back to explain this and the woman laughed at him and was extremely rude. Once upon time, a snobby girl from NY went to Chicago and skeptically tried some Deep Dish here. Ever since then, my life has been transformed. To speak to how delicious this pizza is, I'm still talking about it. It has been over 5 years since I've eaten it, and it is still my absolute favorite pizza in the whole world. This was the best pizza I've had in a long time! It was so delicious! I was going to the Sox game, so I decided to eat here first, and I am glad I did. 3.5 stars - I made my second visit to Connie's over the holiday weekend, and I'm still a fan. We called ahead and placed our pizza order due to time constraints, which worked out since our pizzas just needed about five or ten minutes more once we arrived. They don't take reservations for parties less than 6, but the place is gigantic so there's plenty of room for everyone. It's a cool place too, with lots of interesting decorations and things in the dining rooms. I've tried a few different deep dish pizzas here, and I'd like to try the stuffed ones sometime too. Salads are pretty large as well. Most everyone around us got pizzas, so I don't have an opinion on the pastas and the rest of the menu, but when you're in Chicago, don't you want to stick with deep dish pizza? read more

Something has changed since I last reviewed in 2009. Their pizza sans cheese actually has flavor now. I get the vegetarian one on thin crust. It is one of the special pizzas. I go about once a month with some coworkers. The other vegan usually gets a salad because he is healthy. You could also get pasta here if you are vegan. They have $5 glasses of wine on Wednesday, which I like as well! Makes up for the limited vegan choices. I prefer Kitchen 17 and dimos for vegan pizza, but if your friends from out of town want Connie's, you have a few choices. read more
