Stumbled upon this place while on a short getaway. Friendly bartenders, good beer selection and a really cool retro vibe. They have shuffle board, pool, darts and even ping pong. There's a jukebox with internet access so you can play just about any song you can think of. We only tried the the bar food, but it was very tasty. Had wings, tenders and fried pickles. This is the go-to spot after our United Social Sports games! They have happy hour specials that go until 8pm and sometimes all night long. During these hours the service can get pretty overwhelmed with the influx of people flowing in and out but they are pretty consistent with serving up drinks whenever you need them the most! The food is not exactly what draws you to this place. It's the typical bar fare with (mostly unsuccessful) attempts at originality with the likes of mac and cheese wedges, not-so-healthy salads, and sandwiches. After a few of their awesome drinks specials, it tastes pretty good. It's also a fun spot if you want to go to bar that has tons of space (you know, for office parties and such) and has stuff like skeeball, pool tables, darts and that throwback Simpsons arcade game! read more

Not really my style - the retro decor (sparkly tables?) kind of creeps me out, and it's a bit of a dive. That said, they do have games - pool obviously, shuffleboard, that basketball hoops game and so on - so that adds entertainment value when going with larger groups. I didn't try the food, so I can't speak to that. I drunkenly left my bag here, and the staff was helpful in putting it aside for me so I could do my walk of shame back to Rosslyn the next day and retrieve it. That was much appreciated, and they responded quickly to me on FB when I messaged them in a panic. While this isn't someplace I'd personally come back to outside of company-paid happy hour, it's alright for that, and it's probably more fun for people who actually know how to play pool. read more

Probably the hardest bar and Billiards place to find... ever. Although the address points you to the right building. When you get to entrance of the building (with the huge address numbers above the doors, you quickly find out that it's not the right entrance. Instead, you need to walk around to the other side of the building (the back of the building next to I-66). Nope, that's not the entrance yet, you my friend, have found the exit only. keep walking and you will find the entrance. Finding the place aside, the staff and the clientele are very nice and friendly. You and a group of, say, 20 of your closest friends can just find a place to park yourselves - a pool table, a skeeball machine, a little seating area, a ping pong table, and you are set for the night. If you want to play ping pong, you just go up to the bar, they will swipe your CC and give you a bucket full of paddles and ping pong balls. We left at around 2 AM and the place was still pretty poppin' so I'm sure they are open much later. I will definitely be back. read more

3.5 - vibe/scene. Definitely a cool place to shoot pool, and grab a few beers, and a lot nicer than say Buffalo Billiards in DC. If you are looking for a chill spot to grab a few beers and shoot some pool, this is the place for you! It's not overly packed like some of the other bars can get, so that's a huge plus!!! When I went, none of the pool tables were available, so we just ate food, and I definitely do NOT recommend this place for food. On a food front, I'd give this place 2 stars. Definitely has a dive bar feel, but we definitely had a lot of fun. There were definitely some low-budget moves: No air conditioning, out of a bunch of different beers, and generally sleepy music. I'm used to shooting pool after 10pm, unfortunately the happy hours here end before that. Shooting pool during happy hour is difficult unless you're an early bird who scored a table and also have amazing hand-eye coordination while drunk. I'd only go here for 1 or the other, not both. read more

We came here because it was close to our hotel. The staff is super nice. The beer and liquor selections are decent. The food is below average for what I think they are trying to do in the area. Meetup recently had a meetup for this restaraunt and had the green room in the back. The staff was very courteous with a good selection of beers and wines to choose from. Their was a pretty good selection of food to choose from including the always favorite mac and cheese bites. Note: It's a bit tricky getting to this place if you're driving, the parking garage immediately next door is very cramped with pillars and charges $6 for first hour,$9 for 2 hours, and $12 for the night. Note: Arrive after 6 and good luck finding street parking because then it's free. read more

I like this place. The food is about average, but it's a reasonable, local watering-hole for a happy hour after work in Rosslyn. The two stars is directed toward some of the staff. The bartenders are generally genial, about 85/15% ratio of decent-to-poor. And that's pretty good! That said, and to justify the 2-stars, there are a couple of duds that rank somewhat low for disposition and attentiveness. One employee comes to mind, in particular, but she's just trying to earn a living, so no need to name names. But before Continental opens its forthcoming, much-anticipated beer garden, management should take a hard look at its personnel simultaneously with its clientele, and determine who it wants at its establishment. I won't be spending my ~$100/visit here, personally. I even tipped less than my standard 25%. Finally, they appear to be unfriendly to the LGBT community, based off of my two dozen-or-so experiences. It's odd, because there are often a fair number of LGBT folks who work in the service industry (and even here, I suspect) but there it is. Again, it may have been that one bartender who left a bad taste in my mouth, so who knows? Do give them a chance, though, as the positive generally outweighs the negative. But I'm leaning toward the negative because, after a single visit, I was turned-off. I won't be back, and I will no longer recommend the place to my company for its various social functions, despite having held them here, in the past. Continental Modern Pool Lounge is a hidden gem in Rosslyn, VA. I've been twice for an office holiday party and it was a great time! They have games such as ping pong, basketball, Jenga, Connect 4 and more. They also have REALLY good food -- the wings are too die for, the fried pickles are great and the quesadillas. Around the holidays this lounge books up fast so I would recommend making a reservation. Luckily, I was able to reserve a space for my office and we just ordered food & drinks from the bar -- but you can also make a reservation for space and catering which will cost you. All and all, I've a great time at this place, until next time. read more

Continental is my local watering hole. There is a lack of bars in the Rosslyn area, but Continental rarely disappoints. The space is very large, with an outdated feel (I believe it's intentional), and feels like a 70s dive bar. However, the Happy Hour is excellent with an array of food specials, $4 rails and $3 beers (even on the weekend 6pm-9pm). Also, Happy Hour during the week goes to 8pm. The food is surprisingly good (try the fried pickles), and the music on the juke box is usually on point. read more

Good after work stomping grounds for happy hour. I would not eat here for a sit down dinner, but they do a great job with appetizers and good drinks. The first time I went here, it was at their outdoor seating area. They don't do a great job publicizing the indoor space. The indoor space is pretty big and is good for large groups. They have two bar areas but you would need to call ahead and they can accommodate opening the second bar if the party is large enough. The wait staff was very attentive and I thought our server Wes did a great job when a party of 12 waltzed in looking for drinks. I was hanging out with some friends in Arlington a few Fridays ago and came here and had a great time. I hogged the jukebox (by accident - I was a li'l tipsy and put in a 20 not realizing just how many songs I'd be getting to pick for that amount) and had the place bumping with mostly classic hiphop joints for probably a couple hours. lulz. great music selection on that thing! the service from the bar gets a mixed review and is what brings down my rating. our initial bartender was so lacking I started to take it personally. lulz. like dannnngggg, why don't you like us? =( the other bartender that ended up filling in for her lackingness was great though. if we had her all night I'd add another star. we played pool for a while, also great, and drank and had multiple orders of fries. who knew fries could be so good? they had other games as well like table tennis and air hockey and shuffleboard on a table? anyway, we stuck to pool because I was afraid of what might happen if was equipped with a paddle and a ball. read more

I'm a local and have been coming here with friends and/or family since 2008... this place is always great. Their happy hour prices are some of the best in the area, I've always had great service, they have an awesome beer selection, their pool tables are decently priced, they have plenty of TVs so you won't miss any game, and there are tons of other activities (billiards, shuffleboard, ski-ball, basketball arcade games, Wii, table-tennis, etc). If you get bored here, you're hopeless! Their fried food (pickles) has disappointed at times, but that's a minor issue compared to all the other great things about this place. I hope they stay open for many years to come! UPDATE (Beer Garden): over three months after writing my original review, I need to add that the Continental opened up a BEER GARDEN right next door to it's current location. This is just what the neighborhood needed! I've been to the beer garden 3x in the past month and it's fun. Warning, the beers served in the beer garden are more of a craft variety and are a smidgen more expensive than the proper Continental, but then again, the proper Continental's prices are so hard to beat (esp during their happy hour) that residents inside the beltway should not mind. The ambiance makes up for it too... I mean, where else are you going to play bocce and hang out on picnic tables with your favorite co-workers and/or best friends? Continental deserves a little more credit than given by the other reviewers. It's one of the few weekend happy hours that I ever make it to. Saturday night from 6-9pm. Not bad! This place is interesting, I have to say I love the glittery bar. It was easy enough to get a pool table, and having never been to a pool hall I don't know if the rate was reasonable enough for not (14/hr for 2 people). Like others say the smoke is gross, but fortunately the place was light enough on people and big enough on space for it to not be a big problem on a friday night. Music was actually kinda of a nice change of pace--lots of 90's. Downside: lots of suits here. Bleh. read more

5 stars for customer service. Continental is a very chill place to go. I was just here again for a friends birthday over the weekend and I really appreciate when theres good customer service. Katie, the manager is soo nice and very accommodating, she made sure that all was right for my friends birthday. I enjoyed being at Continental because the bartender Megan was awesome! She recommeded great drinks and has a great sense of humor. Megan recommended me the "grape soda" awesome drink, made delicious. She didn't just give you the typical "what do you want" she joked, laughed, made sure we were taken care of and a sweet heart too. We had reserved the back room where Josh took care of us and he was super attentive and made many rounds back to check on every single person in the room. Really nice and also looked like he enjoyed being there. He was very upbeat and we order the cheese fries and later on that night the fried pickles. TRY IT! It was really good! Never again. I have been here twice because I work in Rosslyn and this is one of the only games in town when it comes to being open and serving beer after 5pm. The first visit was inoffensive enough. We had beers and mediocre nachos served by a waiter who didn't want a tip badly enough to check if we wanted another round. The second visit iced the cake. The waitress was rude from the start. We had to ask for menus--isn't it your job to entice me to order something because the bigger the bill, the bigger your tip? Not just walk up and blurt "what do you want?" When we finally ordered and were served (a beer, a manhattan, and an order of onion rings) thing rolled along okay until the waitress came back. My friend ordered another beer and asked for some more ketchup and some mustard. Him: "Can we get some ketchup, please?" Her: "You have ketchup." Him: "Can we have some more ketchup?" Her: "You have ketchup right there." Him: "You can just bring a bottle, it doesn't have to be in the cup or anything" Her: "We don't have bottles of ketchup, and you still have some right there." Me: "Forget it! Can we just have the mustard?" Her: SIGH!!!! When she came back with the mustard she did a "drive by", dropping it off without looking at us despite the fact that I was clearly fiddling with my very empty glass and wanted to order another round. When the time for the check came, she snatched a fold piece of paper off the table beside me "This is a groupon, right?" She scoffed and walked away. Why, yes, it is a groupon that YOUR place of employment sold to me, and I would have happily handed it to you. I'm very glad this place exists. As a newbie rosslyn yuppie, I was disappointed by the lack of happy hour options for an area that hosts tons of young professionals. Continental has Shiner and an IPA on 3 dollar happy hour until 8pm- how can you beat that? It's also huge and has every bar game available. Their food is also above average bar food and there are amazing specials. Tuesday is half price salad night, which gets you a decently sized salad, with quality fresh ingredients, at a very affordable price. I'm a fan. Bar shuffleboard, with the silicon "sand" and the weights that you slide. Oh how I've missed the bar shuffleboard!! Continental has bar shuffleboard, along with pool tables, board games, Megatouch, multiple tv's and lively 60's funky decor. If I lived in DC, I would be at this place ALL THE TIME. Unfortunately my boyfriend took me down at shuffleboard during my one and only visit, but I just know I could destroy him if only I had a neighborhood joint like the Continental! It's the only cool place to drink in Rosslyn. But even without the competition they do a really good job. Good meal specials (to the point that I have them memorized... 1/2 price Salads on Tuesdays, Burgers on Wednesday, and Cuban Sandwiches on Thursday), great HH deals, they always have an interesting beer or 2 on tap on top of the regular selection and of course they have pool (and shuffleboard!!). I actually liked this place...minus the kid in the hat who decided that his blotto drunk ass would ask me numerous...stupid...questions. After I was done having a holiday party dinner for the military school I'm in, a couple of us decided to walk across the street. Two of us were still in mess dress (imagine those short, tuxedo type jackets, all the medals, shoulder knots, etc.) and the others were in suits with one in a dress. Well, as we walk in, we did turn a few heads - amazingly a few smiles but I think it was more directed to my Navy counterpart who was also in his mess jacket. Of course, I gravitate immediately to the televisions to check out the scores (why they scheduled the dinner for the night of the college conference championships is beyond me). I ended up attracting the riff-raff (which only served to verify that all the ladies minus the sweet bartender was oogling the Navy guy instead of me). One VERY drunk young man came up, tried to put his arm around me while smiling an incredibly large shit-eating grin and said.... (DD is drunk dude - ME is me) DD: *heheheheheh* ME: *turn to face the guy* DD: Hey man...*hic*...do you have one of them...uh...swords?? ME: I'm sorry? DD: You knoooow maaaaaaan....a sword (makes a slashing motion) ME: Uhh...you're thinking thinking of a sabre. And no, Marines carry those - I'm a Soldier. DD: No? Uhhh.....do you have...um....nunchucks?? ME: ....... DD: *grins harder* ME: Dude, you're sauced. Enjoy your night. DD: No nunchucks??? ME: *turns and walks away* Man, if the guy was sober, I might have been tempted to deck the kid. But being in a dress uniform, in a bar with a beer, and getting into a fight USUALLY isn't too well appreciated by the police - fellow government servant or not. I also see that some mentioned some beer soaked hotdogs - so maybe my wife and I will stop by after a day of shopping in Georgetown. What is it with the Billiards places around here that they look like they were designed by George Jetson? Rocket Bar, Atomic Billiards and this place all have the same quasi-futuristic style. What happened to a classic pool hall: darkly lit with green lamp shades, wooden decor, and a smoky interior, quietly accented only by the sounds of the game? Continental Bar & Billiards is trying really hard to be hip. Which is not necessarily a bad thing. The space is huge. There are two gigantic bars, and all the bright colors made me think I accidentally dropped acid on my Metro ride there. There is one major problem though. They put the bar in Rosslyn. Bor-ring. There were more old suits in this place than Men's Wearhouse. ("You'll like the way you drink, ...I guarantee it!") Kinda dulls any kind of hip vibe you're going for. I came here for Happy Hour because a college friend from out of town suggested it. I know, I know,...don't let out-of-towners suggest bars. But I kinda wanted to try this place, it was close to his hotel, and he didn't know the area. I ended up having a good time. The Happy Hour specials were good: $3 drafts, and they had Yuengling, Octoberfest, and Blue Moon among the usual suspects. They also have Delerium and Chimay in bottles, but no specials on those. Pool was expensive, but we easily got a table, and the space was so large you didn't have to worry about hitting the people next to you on every shot. They had plenty of TVs, Shuffleboard, Ping Pong, and a ton of other bar games. It was kind of like being at Dave & Busters without the crippling embarassment of being at Dave & Busters. I liked Continental. Pool could be a bit cheaper, but the drinks were on point. I don't see myself ever suggesting it for a night out, but I would certainly consider it if invited. Continental has a slightly trying-too-hard hipness vibe, but the decor is so nice you end up forgiving it. There are bright purple pool tables and darts, and you can also get a whole host of free games to play at your table (anything from regular cards to Sorry). Drinks run about the usual in Arlington ($6 beers/wine/rail drinks) but ladies play pool for free on Mondays and there are other nice happy hour specials as well. ** Edit: since writing this review, I've been to Continental a few more times and always been disappointed. There are no higher-end beer choices, the cocktails have been sad and watery, and while the decor remains the same the vibe has become what I can only describe as post-college-bar. Ventured here with my Arlington girls on Friday, in hopes of mingling with the opposite sex, but ended up having a good time just chilling with ourselves. This place is more of an after-work bar than a late-night bar. I'd come here with co-workers or my girlfriends for a drink-and-chat, while playing free darts or Connect Four, but it's not a place to meet new people. Seemed like everyone was very secluded at their own little tables and that a lot people came for the happy hour but lingered on. As the only real bar in Rosslyn, Continental is often overrun at Happy Hour by CEB workers from across the street. It is a nicely decorated space, with several motifs. They have many pool tables, and a very long and appealing bar. They also have shuffleboard which is nice. It seems to be great after work, and then dies down to the point that its not a valid place to go later at night unless you want to be lonely. It's unfortunately also overrun by an undesirable weird, sketchy guy contingent that is apparent at a lot of pool bars. This is unfortunate because Continental seems to want to appeal to a much more Georgetowny upscale clientele. read more

I'll open with the possibility that I'm probably a bit biased as my best friend works the door here several nights. But I have no problem being honest with him when he does something that sorta sucks in life, so I'd have no problem being honest about his work establishment. And I have to say that this is a neat little place. They've got a great beer selection. Yingling is on tap here and you can buy Delirium, one of the best beers in the world (damn well outta be at $9!) as well as a range of other things. I had the fried calamari and loved it. You get a whole lot of calamari for not a hugely ridiculous price and it's GOOD. They throw in fried jalapenos with it and put two types of dipping sauce to use. All the folks that work there are pretty cool and I love the kitchy 1950's style decor. They've got happy hour and other specials, are open for lunch and serve food pretty late in to the night. So I've read most of the reviews of this bar and waited to chime in. Technically I give it 4.5 stars but you can't do that on this wacked system! Continental is a cool chill place. (here is a Tip) They have free parking if you come after 5:30 on the roof! (access is around the block) and they are two minutes from the metro... so convenience factor = 5 stars. Their food is actually REALLY GOOD for a bar and I routinely find myself ordering their half off burgers on Wednesday or their Philly cheese steak (both are excellent) so that = 5 stars. They also have a ton of stuff to just "do". From shuffle board to skeeball (they even have a skeeball league) to ping pong to wii to that addictive boxing game (hey I'm a guy) there is always something to fill your time with between drinks. The only place I have to bring them down a bit though would be speed of service at peak hours. Its not the bartenders fault but the actual bar is setup poorly. Bartenders have to turn their backs when ringing up drinks or pouring drafts... it makes them feel distant and removed from the action. But again I'm not a speed drinker so this doesn't weigh too heavily on my enjoyment. All in all I enjoy this spot and visit frequently. Continental is chill. I like chill. read more

Overall: A fun place to grab a drink and play a game or 2, but the crowd is a little odd. Drinks: I got a vodka soda for $5! I thought for sure it was a mistake but hey, I'll take it! Games: Skee ball, that small basketball game, shuffle board, ping pong & pool. Getting a shuffle board or pool table on a Friday night will definitely be a challenge. They have pool (obviously) and shuffleboard for cheaper than most places in the DC area, and they have board games to rent for a dollar, which is absolutely awesome. They also have one of the only weekend happy hours I've found, with 3 dollar beers, and some well specials from 6-9 on Saturdays and Sundays. If you're looking for that bar that'll give you "something different," this isn't the place for you. But it's a solid offering, and if you're in Rosslyn, pretty much your only choice after everything else closes at 10 or 11. Definitely recommended. read more

This place needs some serious help. I was here on a Saturday and had a completely different experience than the happy hour weekday crowd. Continental has potential but it's hidden in a corner of Rosslyn I've never seen in my life. Technically every place in Rosslyn is hidden because well...it's Rosslyn. Let's face it. Very few people voluntarily go to Rosslyn unless it's for a paycheck. I really hate complaining at restaurants/bars but things were so bad here I simply couldn't help it as we weren't getting what we paid for on numerous levels. First impression. They state on their website that it's 21+ after 5pm. The bouncer didn't card anyone. He looked bored out of his mind. At least card people for some entertainment. The staff. Where do I begin? Our bartender was very nice and attentive but she still made it clear that she didn't care too much. All of the staff members were complaining about hating their job and having nothing to do right in front of the customers. One guy was doing push ups behind the bar and said he felt like he gets paid to do one thing an hour. Not exactly what customers want to hear. He also kept feeding the jukebox with terrible music that can best be described as the music you didn't want to hear at your 8th grade dance. Customers kept feeding the machine with songs they wanted to hear and he'd go over and trump their songs with his music. Whenever a customers song came on he made fun of it. The crown jewel was when ALL OF THE EMPLOYEES (even the bouncer who should have been manning the door at 9pm!) went back into the kitchen for a good 5 minutes. During this time anyone could have just gone behind the bar and helped themselves or else gone straight to the register. When the staff finally reappeared they were all giggling. It was super weird. The games. The hoops game ate our money and when it did work it didn't count our hoops. Awesome. The pics on their website of the skee ball machines? Totally not the same machines that are there now. One machine was completely dark without working lights but still worked. The other machine was aglow but ate your money and only dispensed the balls after feeding it money for two more credits. When we complained to the staff they sort of shrugged and said they knew the machines didn't work. There's a right way and a wrong way to solve the situation. They went for the wrong way. I suppose putting an "out of order" sign on every machine wouldn't look good. Still, allowing machines to eat up the customers money isn't cool! The pool and shuffleboard tables seemed fine. It seems like the theme for this place is where there's a pro there's a con. The staff yet again didn't care about the product they're putting out as the pucks were all messed up. One color had all the same weights while the other had a jumbled mess of different weights. Ugh. At least they can't screw up pool! Ping pong ding dongs. They put the ping pong table in the worst possible location! Nearly everyone playing ping pong (no offense) wasn't good at it. The ball kept bouncing onto shuffleboard tables and rolling under pool tables. Not a good location when the ping pong players are interrupting other games. The food. I have to admit they have a pretty good menu as well as some awesome food specials throughout the week and even on the weekend. Although "service industry" Sundays require you to bring a pay stub which is kind of weird and off-putting. Nonetheless, I wasn't impressed with the food. Everything was way too salty. I got a grilled cheese sandwich and the cheese wasn't even melted! My salad had way too many brown chunks of iceberg lettuce to make it edible. I pointed it out to the bartender and got another shrug. Asking me if I'd like another side in place of it would have been nice. Yet again, an employee chose the wrong way handle the situation. Conclusion: Continental would be so much better if they fixed their machines when they're broken instead of waiting for the maintenance man to roll up. Games are a key element of your business! That's half of why people come here in the first place! No one just stumbles into Rosslyn unless it's for a reason! It's like going to a barber shop that doesn't have any scissors!
