Great local restaurant! The chicken and dumplings is the best, just like mom used to make

Came here for a double date with our best friends. We made reservations for 6:30 and were seated immediately. I ordered a pineapple mohito which was quite yummy and lots of flavor, and to get started the boys ordered croquettes and loved them! Our friend that we went with said his grandmothers are the best but he said these just might win that battle! Wohoo!! For food our friends ordered the cheeseburger and pork burger and fries and they loved them both! I got the cheeseburger with bacon and truffle aoli, I would say it was a great burger and the fries were cooked to perfection! My husband got the lamb burger and he said it was one of the best burgers he has had! The downfall of this restaurant was the plain decor and the uncomfortable seats. Where to begin ... while 2 stars seems to harsh, it was appropriate. Read the menu online and it looked great, sadly it did not deliver. SALT SALT SALT, including our server- she was very salty. She was clearly inconvenienced by our presence. She was entirely unavailable throughout the meal despite it being a very empty restaurant. She never asked us if we needed anything. She only communicated with us when taking our order. Her time at the table was abrupt, rude and minimal. In terms of the food, do they know there are other ways to flavor the food aside from using salt? Needless to say, we will not be back, do not recommend unless you enjoy awful service and subpar food. I was finally able to try out Cook and Dagger on a few occasions, once for brunch and another for dinner. Based on my previous review regarding their hours of operation I felt they deserved a full fledged review showcasing everything they had to offer. Brunch: Brunch at Cook and Dagger was a little underwhelming. Their menu is very limited as well. I was able to try everyone else's meals at the table which is a necessity for friends/family in order to find a dish more inline with your preferences, as most of the selections are gourmet takes on common brunch items. I ordered the Chicken fried steak, but was also able to try the Eggs Benedict and breakfast burger. Unfortunately I was not impressed by any of them. None of the dishes stood out on their own distinctly, aside from the benedict, which had an overpowering lemon zest flavor I wasn't a fan of. All other dishes tasted like a butter covered fryer. Dull and heavy. Dinner: Dinner However is their claim to fame. I was able to try the Sausage rigatoni, pork dinner, duck, Sweet Chili wings and Buffalo Wings. All of them were DELICIOUS. Everything had its own distinct powerful and delicious flavors with a decent kick of spicy. While it is a bit on the pricy side for everyday outings, Special occasions are a must as no one at our table was disappointed in the slightest. Their drinks and cocktails are some of the best I've ever tasted. My favorite was the Tequila Mocking Bird. All the drinks were served with quality liquor and you could definitely tell that there was a lot of attention placed on the preparation of everything as it was damn near cooked to perfection. The food was so good here! I had to get on Yelp and write about it because I had the best carrot experience of my life here: the roasted carrots brunch appetizer. I like carrots and all, but I've never LOVED them as deeply as I did in this dish. Served with warm honey, ricotta, and these savory, nutty curry-esque spices. I also had the chorizo and manchego croquettes, which were delicious, and my boyfriend loved his chicken fried steak with poblano gravy. Props to the chef! read more

In short: for a few bucks less and with service that's a solid 40 minutes faster... this could easily be a five star review. Highlight food wise was the pineapple habanero wing. The food: - Pineapple habanero wings were great. Buffalo and BBQ were also very good. Both lacked crisp and crunch but flavor was spot on. - Pork belly quesadilla- really good. Spicy though! Be warned. - Gnocchi blognese- gnocchi was a little less cooked than I would have liked but the blognese was incredible. Not worth $22 dollars especially given the size. - Chicken and dumplings- chicken could have used a little more seasoning, the dumplings seemed a bit doughy but when you go the perfect bite it was incredible. The experience: - waited forever just to be acknowledged - everything took a minimum of 10 minutes. Including getting a menu in the first place - friendly wait staff but took too long - definitely need to be fairly dressed up The price: - a little too pricey especially considering all the waiting. Like I said at the top, take $3 off or make the portions bigger or at the very least get it to us way sooner. read more

This place is absolutely incredible. We have been here probably 7 or 8 times now and I have never had anything less than perfect, and I'm relatively critical of my meals. We have split our visits evenly between brunch and dinner and both offer phenomenal choices. For brunch, the breakfast in a jar with short rib really stands out but you can't go wrong with the eggs Benedict or the baked potato omelette either. Also, they have an excellent selection of brunch cocktails that come in the largest Mason jars I've ever seen. For appetizers, really pick any of them. Our last visit we tried the poutine, we are poutine lovers, and this blew away any other poutine we've ever had. The croquettes also rival those I lived off of while in Spain. The pork belly and fingerling potatoes are incredible as well. For dinner, I would recommend trying one of their perfectly thought out and put together specials. Anything on the menu works too. Prices are fair for this quality of food, especially since most of it is locally sourced. If you haven't been here, you're missing out! read more

We came here for brunch on Sunday, which for a brunch place, they open kind of late. At 11. We went right as the doors opened and were the only ones there. It's a nice, open place with sparse tables covered in brown paper. We were, obviously, seated right away. We had our son with us, and although they didn't have a children's menu, they made him some plain french toast and had crayons for him to draw on the table paper. I ordered a mimosa that seemed pricey at $10 but then came in a huge glass so I was satisfied. We started with the croquettes that were AMAZING and then I had the grown-up banana foster French toast (equally amazing.) My husband ordered the special which was avocado toast with raw tuna. It was beautiful, and he also said, AMAZING. I would definitely go back for dinner if we can ever get a sitter. If not, I'll be happily satiated with their yummy brunch. read more

This is probably my favorite restaurant right now. If you and your party each order an appetizer and an entree there is a good chance that every dish you get would be a standout by itself if you got it anywhere else. Every dish. This is not a chicken parm restaurant, although the owner was the opening chef at d.Carlo Trattoria and can certainly cook Italian. But the dishes are more eclectic and Chef Kattawar combines flavors in ways that most would not think of and the presentation is always exceptional. Deserts and drinks follow suit making for a perfect dinner and after eating brunch there I can't eat brunch anywhere else. read more

My wife and I had dinner here and we liked the food very much. I had salmon with a sunchoke hash. She had a beet salad and something else that I don't remember now. My salmon was excellent, if maybe a little overly salty. It had a good crust on one side and was flaky and cooked to just under medium. I didn't care much for the sunchoke hash, mainly due to a very unappetizing appearance. I don't like the trend of smearing something across a plate, especially when it's a poopy brown color. Yes, it tasted decent, but the look was bad. We also enjoyed our apps and drinks. I didn't like the ambiance much at all. It was cold temperature wise, and the interior has an off-putting banquet room feel. It's tiled, very pale color scheme, and not warm visually. The bar is cool though. Service was the other area that needs improving. Confused is the best way I can describe it. They were nice, and well intentioned, just a bit lacking in training maybe? A little more polish and this wouldn't be an issue. Nice place, needs some very minor tweaks and would be much better. I was super excited to try this place as it's within 2 miles of home, what finally got us there was the welcoming they had to Citizens colleagues (Johnston Campus) in October with 10% off the bill, so we said what the heck and took advantage. Now we don't get out quite often these days as we have a toddler and try to spend as much time with her as we can and this isn't quite the toddler establishment (that's what Chili's, Chelo's and Panera are for) so it was nice to have a date night & order scrumptious dishes that I just don't have the time to make these days. We started out with homemade biscuits and boy were those delicious with the homemade butter. We also opted for some craft draft beers. The server was nice and typical of many establishments took our order down in her head. We had each opted for the special a delicious sounding pan seared sea scallop with turnip squash, roasted sweet potatoes and micro herb salad. There was also a sea scallop dish on the menu with a Thai peanut sauce and pork belly so to ensure we ordered the right thing we ordered two "specials". When our food came we were a bit confused as we started to eat and realized that they were the menu scallops. We tried to like them but both couldn't and by the time we were able to get the servers attention minutes had passed, she apologized and indicted it was her mistake and said she would put the correct orders in but we had eaten part of the scallops at this point so just asked for the sides accompanying the specials. Instead of going to place the order and rush it, she headed to another table to gather an order (it wasn't that busy) and then proceeded with ours. So we had cold scallops and hot sides, a subpar pricey ($30 a plate) meal. I just wished that the server had more pep in her step to correct the mistake. She did take our beers off of the bill in an attempt to rectify it but it still put a damper on the evening. We will likely stick to burgers and beer next time we visit and do our fine dining elsewhere. read more

Greatest foodie experience in a long time! The flavors were simply amazing! The 2 owners are the chefs and I love the fact they use alot of local products, supporting our local farming community. Instead of your ordinary bread basket, we were presented with 2 varieties of warm homemade cornbread with honey butter. 1 was peppery and the other buttery, both were delicious. We started off with (local) roasted carrots w/ a dill creme fraiche & a touch of harisa for our appetizer. Slightly soft yet crunchy with a tpuch of heat and creamyness was completely satisfying. It was a great start and I was already feeling happy we came here. Dinner was 4 large grilled bay scallops that simply melted in your mouth! A melody of chorizo, corn, shishito peppers and another touch of something creamy. Texturely satisfying! I thought a flavor bomb had gone off in my mouth. I would have licked the dish if we weren't in public!!!! I was wishing I had some cornbread left to mop up as much goodness as I could. If you see the pics I took, you can see I did a pretty good job without it though!!!! Some may think the items are a little pricey (compared to your local chains that DON'T serve local/fresh) but it is definitely worth it. I think the most expensive dinner was $27. Again, definitely worth it!! The only downfall is that we didn't have room for dessert!! Hopefully next time!!! read more

Creative menu. I was looking forward to the duck ramen but was severely disappointed. There was not enough broth and the objects in the broth were too big to eat with chopsticks. There was too much smoke flavor and it overpowered the whole dish. There was too much chewy fat on the duck, they should have rendered some off to get some crispy skin. The service was awful the woman who waited on us did not seem very friendly. Once we were given the check it was a very long time before we were approached again. We had the most wonderful meal last night. The wait staff was so perfectly attentive and friendly and the food was just fantastic. I could not have loved the Rabbit more, having never tried it before. We had several of the drink specials, which were all great. My wife and I live about an hour away in Stonington Ct. We had a event to attend to near the Cook and Dagger. We read up on it before traveling to Greenville. We gave it a try and were not disappointed. Jerry our server was awesome, the food even better. We started out with Brussel sprouts, and the chicken wings. We were pretty full and very satisfied. We split the lamb burger. We love lamb but never had it as a burger. It was cooked perfectly (Med rare) and so delicious. One of the best burgers I have ever had if not the best. finished it all off with a chocolate flan, also incredible. Don't know when we will get back to Greenville, but will make this one of our destinations. P.S. just wish we had room in our stomachs to try the calamari . . . read more

Had reservations for 8PM last night (Saturday). We were seated at a table for 4 in the "lounge/bar" area. It didn't seem like the reservation was necessary but it's better to be safe then sorry. We started with a couple of drinks. Gin and grapefruit was delicious and the jalapeno/blood orange margarita was awesome. Appetizers were the Duck Toast and Pork Belly Quesadilla. The quesadilla was my favorite of the two but I'm splitting hairs between choosing one. Both were great. For dinner I had the scallops. 4 sea scallops placed on top of mashed turnips, roasted brussel sprouts, eggplant, and carrots and tossed in a bacon vinaigrette. It was delicious. The other dinner dish was the gnocchi ricotta bolognese. The gnocchi's were massive and pan seared perfectly. The bolognese, I believe, was made with lamb and beef and it looked great. The only reason it's not 5 stars is because of the service. It took forever to get drinks once we ordered them the first time and we waited with empty glasses on the edge of the table for over 15 minutes before being asked if we would like more. I had to walk the receipt to the register at the end of the evening because no one was coming by to pick it up. Faster service and this will be 5 stars. Good drinks and amazing food. I had to come back on Yelp and re-review Cook & Dagger. Our previous experience with this restaurant was absolutely delicious however I mentioned lack in decor, and that it was pretty pricey. I headed back to Cook & Dagger last week and was blown away yet again. The decor actually isn't half bad. It's a mix of southern, rustic and industrial. I'm not sure why I mentioned it as a negative point before but this time in, I actually saw how the food and the decor matched perfectly. The price isn't half bad either. It's in line with any other local restaurant just with AMAZING food. Seriously - the food is spectacular. Lastly, I have to shoutout our waiter Nate who not only recognized me from my previous visit but was just as good as I remembered. He seriously is one of the best waiters I've ever met. He was so informative, kind and personable! The Cook & Dagger is a little hidden gem in Greenville. It's our new favorite place and we can't wait to head back there again. read more

Walking into an understaffed, very very slow environment is a terrible first impression. Being looked at for a couple of minutes before being greeted is very uncomfortable. Then being told that there is a 20 minute wait when there were 3 tables dirty made me want to walk out. We persisted on because the menu was very appetizing and we were eager to try the food. When we were finally seated after they sat 2 tables that came in after us we continued to wait for a waitress. When we were finally greeted she was very nice but not very quick or efficient. Not a good first impression. When the bread finally arrived we were given our first smile because the bag of bread was a great savory start to the meal. Then the wings, although, missing a crunch, had an incredible taste. The Habanero pineapple wings had to be one of my favorite tasting wings yet in the Lord of The Wings contest. The Pork Quesadilla was sooo tasty. Honestly it was a very pleasant surprise. The Gnocchi was perfectly cooked with a delicious bolognese sauce, creamy and cheesy. The food ultimately made me smile and full but I could eat more of those Gnocchi!! Compliments to the chef!!! Went here tonight for dinner. Never actually ate, because we sat there for 25 minutes before being acknowledged by the staff. We had a reservation but we were sat in the lounge are, which is fine. We actually weren't sat there, the hostess more or less pointed in the direction of a table that had two menus sitting on it. So we sat down. 5 minutes...10 minutes.....15 minutes.....20 minutes.....finally the bartender comes out from the bar, picks up the check from a table next to us and say "will be right with you". So she goes to the register. Finishes aaaaand walks to the other end of the bar and takes a drink order from a couple over there. Mind you we haven't even been given a glass of water or a hello and we've been sitting there for nearly 25 minutes at this point. It was surreal. Never had such a bad experience at a restaurant. They have no clue how to operate a restaurant in my opinion. So we got up and left. The menu offerings LOOKED good, but we never actually got served anything, including a hello, so I can't say for certain if the food would be worth the pitiful service. read more

Cook & Dagger is...phenomenal. It's so good it's hard to know where to begin, but I'll try. Cook & Dagger is like Julians if all the smirking hipsters were actually friendly and wanted your patronage. This is a 5 star eatery located in the third crappiest town in Rhode Island. It is so seriously out of place it raises the entire cultural language of an area that has done nothing but put up more stoplights and attract so many chains that it's made Route 44 into a bowel obstruction. Cook & Dagger actually makes Smithfield worth driving to again. It's just that good. Everything is made in house; every peck of bread and wisp of sauce and pat of butter is created about 17 feet away from where you're dining and it shows. The combinations available can look a touch esoteric but trust these chefs - they absolutely know what they are doing. You can tell that each plate is given personal, professional attention. Who knows how they got the staff to come here; Cook & Dagger belongs in the heart of Providence and could easily charge those types of prices. The in-house, copper-top bar looks like it was hijacked from the Grange and gives off a funky, retro vibe that serves as the focal point for some off-beat and delicious drink combinations. Along with lists of craft beers, the bartenders are skilled in making a number of specialty drinks with clever names. Again, the combinations may seem a little off-beat. Trust them. You will not be disappointed. Side Notes: --The Parking Lot out front is small and right on a 44 death intersection. It is far easier to follow the giant sign that says "Parking Around Back" which puts you right next to the veterinary clinic than it is to park out front in anything more than a compact car. --The hours are interesting. They have lunch a few days of the week, are closed Tuesdays, have a Sunday brunch and are generally open from 4pm - Midnight. And god knows what midnight looks like in this part of Smithfield. Probably the opening to the Walking Dead. We can't *wait* to grab a table at 11pm some random Saturday. read more

So disappointed was anxious to dine here, but what a let down except for the service (Owen) he was so enthused about the menu but the kitchen let him down on many of the dishes. Olives- very good Brussels sprouts - very good Chicken wings - meh...average at best (du jour was Caesar dressed ) has to ask for more dressing, even then. ..they just didn't entice enough to return for. Octopus - forget it, they took baby octopus and charred them so badly they didn't taste anything like octopus ( weak portions for the better ) Steak Entree which I still can't pronounce was tough, except for the fingerling potatoes and more crispy Brussels I would have sent back. I drive by this place twice a day and its taken me far too long to stop in but I am really glad I did.. Albeit the atmosphere is a little bare but I think the food and service really make up for it. Started with a couple drinks that were really tasty.. The brussels app was so so good.. Fish tacos and hanger steak was delicious as well. I would absolutely recommend this restaurant to anyone looking for a good meal. The menu is different from anything in the area and if you're looking for something hearty and over the top flavor, then I suggest you stop in and try it out. This review is for three specific items: fish tacos, Brussel sprouts and sweet potato hummus. All are absolutely delicious! I love hummus and the sweet twist on this one makes it unique. Brussels are flavorful and crispy. I've ordered the tacos several times and when they're on point, they're on point. The hand cut fries are great as well! Unfortunately there have been a few times when the fries were dry as if they were sitting out for a while and the fish tacos were less than flavorful.. something was missing. For $20, I expect top notch tacos every time. I would give five stars if consistent. Would order again, however. Side note: I would like to be informed beforehand when there is an added up charge for a side of sauce, etc. Location can be tough due to high traffic on route 44 and parking is not great. Not the restaurants fault but just so people know. I appreciate unique restaurants like this one and wish there were more instead of all the chains Smithfield has. read more

the food is really good but last 2 times I went the service has not been up to par. I could see if it was busy, but the last two times I have been we were disappointed with the service. Again the food is good but service is very important. I also didn't care for the crappy comments the waitress had to say, even if she thinks she was being funny, bottom line it def turn my wife and I off from this place. Mother's day, 2 pm reservation for 6 adults (4 mothers) and 6 kids (ages 3 to 13) was a disaster. We were sat right away at a table that was clean, but not ready for us. There wasn't enough silverware, water glasses or seats. We were not served our food until 3:30! To top that off we were the first ones sat in that room and the last to get our food by a solid 25 minutes. Our server was not the best, she was slow and showed very little intrest in us or making sure we got our drinks and order taken in a timely manner. Once things started going wrong she blamed everything on everyone else. On mothers day kids should be expected and if you're going to offer a mother's day menu, you should include at least a couple meals for children. The only child friendly meal they offered was the banana foster french toast. And on that note it was 11$ for this french toast that was very obviously made with 99 cent white bread and had 3 little pieces of banana. My omelet was wrong and cold. Prime rib was cold. All of the French Toast was cold. Scrambled eggs were mushy and cold. Breakfast in a jar was steaming hot and the rest of the food was warm. After waiting over an hour we tried to pay for our drinks and leave, we were told our food would be out any minute and our drinks were comped. Our food still disnt come out for another 30 minutes. Several of the cold plates were removed from the bill (not the 30 dollar cold prime rib). Around 4 we had nearly a 200$ bill put in front of us and we just weren't okay with that, it was not a 200 experience or service and the food didn't come close to meeting the expectations of the prices. After a peaceful talk with the owner/manager the rest of the bill was comped and we were told in a very rude manor not to come back. Our kids were well behaved despite being starving, we were kind and polite despite being annoyed and starving. Most of the adults in our group work in the industry, we're pretty forgiving. We didn't expect the entire bill to be comped, but the experience we had and the price simply did not come close to adding up. The one and only good this I have to say is that the drink were amazing! Had we paid they would have been worth every penny. Who ever is in charge of their bar menu knows what they're doing and is doing it very well. The rest of the place, not so much. read more

Came here on a Friday night for dinner and drinks. First of all, the melon and cucumber mojito was literally the best mojito I've ever had. It was so refreshing and had perfectly balanced flavors of cucumber, mint, and a hint of melon fruitiness. We tried the croquettes, pork belly quesadillas, clam chowder, and the cheeseburger. All of the flavors were so bold, and you can really taste the craftsmanship of the chef in all of the dishes we tried. Everything was so herbaceous and just totally different from other restaurants we've tried in the area. We will definitely be back to try some of the other delicious looking entrees on the menu! read more

Food was good and fresh. My issue is their claim they offer gluten-free options. Offering a burger with no bun is not an alternative - it's an omission. We stayed and worked within the confines of the menu - she had a salad. However, while there, another couple came and left after learning the truth. I should have read the reviews on here and on Google before coming. First of all, the food was bland. It looked fabulous, but the taste was awful. My husband didn't like his either. If you haven't tried Cook & Dagger yet, do yourself a favor and do so as soon as possible. My daughter and I ate dinner there tonight and it was phenomenal from start to finish. The decor is simple, but very pleasant and relaxing. I like that it isn't fussy and lets the food speak for itself. The service was top notch. Chris was very attentive and happy to answer all of our many questions. The food was absolutely delicious, some of the best I've had in a long time. We had the pork ribs appetizer. They were fall off the bone tender and the spices and even the vegetable garnishes were very flavorful. My daughter had the crispy skin salmon with cappellini cake and spinach. The salmon was perfectly cooked and the cappellini cake was as unique as it was tasty. I had a pork belly burger with lemon grass served with slaw on a brioche bun, which was a special for the night, and it was the one of the best burgers I've ever had. Even the fries were perfectly seasoned and crisped. We were stuffed, but had to order the banana creme brûlée because everything had been so outstanding. Served with fresh whipped creme, it did not disappoint. The top had the perfect amount of crunch and the custard was sweet, but not too much so, and filled with fresh banana slices. We left stuffed and happy. My only disappointment was I'm here to move my daughter back home, across the country, so we won't be able to return. My girlfriend and I thought we'd try this place out for the first time. We grew up in Greenville and this is truly one of the first restaurants of it's kind in the area. At first entry, the restaurant is gorgeous. Everything is clean, modern, but has the aesthetic of a chic downtown PVD bar. We (of course) tried the crispy Brussels sprouts which were to die for. And the biscuits with maple butter were equally amazing. I've always been weary of fish tacos but I would recommend them over and over from this place! My girlfriend had the fried chicken sandwich which also came on a biscuit. She really enjoyed the small touches of southern flare since she is originally from South Carolina. We've been meaning to check out this place for the longest time and finally did tonight! I cannot say enough good things - my husband and I shared 4 appetizers and 2 desserts among us and the food was more than enough. The smoked carrot hummus with warm pita chips was phenomenal and the chocolate mousse pie is to die for! We were the only people dining (it was a Monday night) but our waitress was very attentive the whole time! This place is a secret gem I wish we had discovered earlier.
