Good cheap food served late and crowded. Huge lines but they move fast.

The food here is not bad, relatively new to this area, this placed opened in a location where several other restaurants had opened and failed. these people are doing quite well in comparison, they have lasted well passed the 6 month mark. One thing to keep in mind when ordering HERE, is how you want ur burger cooked ,,,every time I've been there The Burgers were EXTEMELY WELL DONE, to the point of rare done charcoal ... the meat was almost burnt to a crisp. When living in North Carolina, the Cook Outs there were VERY good, with average prices, here in Lynchburg, the prices are higher than other fast food places in the area, and the sandwiches are a shade bigger than what some call "sliders" . From what I have found, the same people own these places, and I don't know why the quality of the food is lower, the quantity/ size of the sandwiches made, is much smaller and the prices are notably higher. This being a college town with Liberty University far away, the place is packed, as well as the parking lot, the drive-up window is always long, sometimes wrapped around the build, twice ,,, I guess these college kids don't mind small burgers, extremely well done, and with them being able to use their Meal Cards from Liberty University, they don't mind the higher prices. read more

I have been here several times in the last two years. Most of the time I get milkshakes, which are good, but generally do not get food. However last year, 2013, I decided to try a BLT from there and found a long dark hair in my sandwich!! Last week I decided to give it another try, I got a hamburger this time and there was ANOTHER hair in my hamburger! I could not believe it! I will never eat at this place again until I see that they are wearing hair nets! It is very gross to have hair in your food! I would suggest that everyone checks their food before taking a bite! Good ballpark fare food. If you are craving food you get at a ballpark, this is where you want I hit up. Good variety at a good price. $5 combos, which is a main item (like a burger or chicken tenders), two sides (good choices like fries, onion rings, corn dogs) and a drink or upgrade to a delicious milkshake for $1 more. Fast, quick multi choice menu-Burgers,Hot dog's and chicken with plenty of sides. This is a late late late night place in this sleepy town (after a certain time). The grill smoke is brewing out of the place. The food is good, the prices are reasonable-the only drawback is the wait can be long. Okay so you'll always here about the milkshakes and sadly I can't tell you about that cause I'm allergic. However, everything else at Cook Out is worth the money. It's actually pretty cheap to even begin with. No matter how healthy you are trying to be, you will always want greasy food. It's human nature in my opinion. Burgers are a tad smaller than Richmond and they give you a little more fries. Great food and great price. Shakes are awesome.

Always fast when going through the drive-thru and always gets my order right. Their milkshakes are good, but the food is pretty average. It is great for a late night food run because they are one of the only places open in Lynchburg after 12:30am. Also good for poor college students because the prices are made for change scrapers :D read more

One of the best ideas ever. Simply, charbroiled hamburgers, chicken, or dogs in a plate which include two sides and a large drink for $4.69. Only issue was that the onions on the burger had the outer dry layer and it didn't have the Cajun seasoning I requested. Recommend the big double plate. read more

visited this restaurant on 12/04/13 at 23:18. Our server Noelle was very rude to us. She rushed us through our order and when we asked if we could please have a minute she kept sucking her teeth. Then when the food arrives, the sides were just dumped into the bag , out of their paper holders. This server was lacking customer service skills and made our order a mess. Cheapp goooood food. Cookout is the best thing that has ever happened to Lynchburg. Open till 3-4am every night is the best part about it.

I give them 4 stars for the food and 2 stars for the service. The food is very good. But you will need to double-check your order EVERY time you go there. I'm not exaggerating when I say that half the time my order is not filled correctly. Tonight the receipt was right...no grilled onions on my burger. When I got it home (we went through the drive through) my burger was absolutely smothered in onions and the bun was soggy and falling apart with onion juice. It's frustrating to find these places with great food that ruin the experience when their employees don't care enough to actually check and make sure they are giving you what you ordered. read more

Waited in the cookout line for 45 minutes and there were only 6 cars In front of me. The service was piss poor at best.

Good FAST and inexpensive food. There is always a line here both inside and out but these guys specialize in FAST service. The food is good too, waaaay above typical fast-food quality (ie mcdonalds or burger king). The "regular" burger has about the same amount of meat as the "big double" just in a thicker patty. If you're looking for restaurant quality, then maybe this isn't the place for you, but a big step up from the regular chains. I got a double burger with cheese on it and that alone made me feel sick enough to stop eating. Idk if it was a typical Thursday or? And they messed up my order with computer malfunctions told me 3 different totals and I didn't even get my change I have to wait til te morning when they count it and they said they will "have the GM call me if it's counted over" I would say spend a little more and go to panera bread. I've been to this location many times. And I love it. Great food, great price. However, the black girl working the drive thru tonight 3/13/15 needs to be fired. She asked me to repeat what I wanted on my burger 4 times. And then still rang in tomato on it. I'm allergic to tomato. I could not even eat the food I had paid for. First of all there were more things wrong with my order than there were things right with it. I ordered a southwest style burger and got a plain regular burger. The Burger it's self was extremely well done and had no flavor whatsoever. It wasn't the worst $9 I've ever spent but it's definitely up there. Normally, I love going by Cookout and getting a Peanutbutter Fudge shake. So my husband and I ordered a plain peanutbutter and I ordered my peanutbutter fudge. When our number was called, my husband reiterated to the girl "Peanutbutter & Peanutbutter Fudge right?" She said "Yep!" Umm, nope!!! Got home and ended up with Banana & Pineapple and some kind of cobbler with cherry or strawberry. What a bummer! I called the store's listed number and got a blaring fax machine noise in my ear! Tried calling 3 more times with the same result before giving up. I know people make mistakes but getting both shakes messed up? C'mon already. Then not to answer the phone? Just made me even more irritated! Our Cookout in Lynchburg, VA is mainly a college hangout. I welcome the summer when they leave and Wards Rd. can be somewhat normal again.
