I had the Patty melt burger and it was so good. It had Swiss cheese, sauerkraut, caramelized onions and garlic aioli. I had it on a gluten free bun and it came out marked gluten free so you know it wasn't mixed up in the kitchen....

They cook their normal fries in beef tallow but Gluten free fries are done in canola oil for a dedicated fryer. I couldn't resist trying the crispy fried cheerwine Brussel sprouts. It was definitely a new spin on Brussel sprouts. I can't wait to return to try the wings and the spam fries along with the pastrami burger. Everything was amazing, I just wish I had a bigger stomach.

Visited Williamsburg for the weekend and a friend recommended Cook's. [[HIGHLIGHT]]The atmosphere: A small spot with a fun retro vibe. Has table, booth, and bar seating.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] The food: I ordered the Cook's Patty Melt with a side of Classic Tallow Fries. It's a nice twist on a burger, served on toasted seeded rye instead of a traditional sesame seed bun. The patty was juicy and cooked with a little pink, just how I like it. The caramelized onions and swiss cheese complemented the sandwich really well. The tallow fries were tasty, though I wish they'd been cooked a bit longer since a few came out inconsistently done. The service: Friendly service all around. We also appreciated our server giving us plenty of time to look over the menu since it was our first visit.

By far the BEST burger spot I have ever been to. [[HIGHLIGHT]]I have to start with the interior. We came when it was Christmas time so the place was decked out in lights and fun decor.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]The people that come here are definitely locals and you can feel that small town vibe which I loved.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] The staff were terrific - super kind, attentive, and you could just tell were good people. As for the food... I was amazed at how good it was. There is nothing better than a simple burger done well. Mine came with a dipping sauce (I don't remember what it was called) but it was delicious. Super succulent, meaty, and the bread was super soft. The fried might have been my favorite part. They were DELICIOUS. Cooked in beef tallow, great chunks of garlic, healthy heap of Parmesan.. utter perfection. If I lived near here I'd come here at least once a week.

The holiday decor was on point along with the modern holiday music. What's on the other end is the wait and the service. This restaurant has plenty of parking located in a strip mall nearby a Food Lion and Marshalls. There was quite a selection of drinks and burgers as well as options for burger upgrades. The decor was spot on for the season. But the wait was a bit between getting seated and waiting for the server to come back and take our order. The food was alright but nothing too exciting for a burger and a separate bowl of fries. For a large order of fries you get s small dip cup.

Months ago, a fellow Yelper posted a review on this spot located in Willamsburg. I've never heard of this place so to head feedback from friends is helpful. So you know there was a chance I had to check them out. Last month, Sophia and I finally had to chance to see if the hype was worth it. We came during a rainy day where they had half capacity. Basically, the restaurant is an ode to diners in the past. There are some booths and tables to go with the bar which is really nice. Flat screen TVs are in place and music was playing throughout. The decor is definitely an old school feel and they have pictures of well-known chefs. For our table was one of the late, great Anthony Bourdain. Still miss you buddy. For the meal, it was top notch. I ordered their Cook's Reuben sandwich which has pastrami as the protein along with typical ingredients for a reuben sandwich. This one was within my realm since I'm a fan of reubens. This bad boy was enough to fill up yours truly. It'll never overtake the sandwiches I had at the former Route 58 deli, but it's one I'll definitely order again. Thank you Cook's for making me happy. This spot will be a repeat the next time we're in the area. Till next time :)

This is a good place for when you want a great burger and drinks. It does get busy pretty quickly, so there might be a wait. We were added to the waitlist and it was only 10-15 mins. It does get pretty loud, but that's expected for a place like this. The servers were quick and attentive. I got the moonshine lemonade, which was strong and good. It went well with the heavy food we had. My husband got a Dr. Brown's root beer, which was ok. For food, I got the bacon burger, which was very good and my husband got the mushroom swiss burger. Both were cooked perfectly. We split the fries because you get a lot of them. While my husband enjoyed the special sauce that comes with them, I was able to have malt vinegar brought over to me.

Hands down one of the best experiences we've had in Williamsburg! No doubt the best burgers we've ever had too! Huge, juicy, well seasoned, fresh and delicious! My husband got the Pastrami Burger, I built my own double and we shared the Farmers Fries. We won't even talk about the house Garlic Aioli, yummy! Even the pickle spear was good! Customer service was on point too! We didn't wait for anything and we were constantly asked if we needed anything from all the staff. Everyone was friendly and extremely helpful. [[HIGHLIGHT]]Bonus...this spot was clean.... Like clean clean! I have a bit of OCD and everything from the booth, hanging light over the booth and even the pictures on the wall near where we were sitting was spotless.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] We were seriously impressed especially since this was our first time eating there. We've been in Williamsburg for nearly 2 years and we waited 2 years too long! Thank you to the entire staff for being so courteous and making our experience everything it should've been. We'll definitely return!

This place is a vibe all unto itself. Very cool atmosphere and items on the menu. Well stocked bar and great service. Super nice and attentive servers. We started with the spam fries. Essentially a can of spam cut into sticks and fried into fries. A little sweetness on the outside but still that salty fleshy texture and taste of spam that we all love even if we do so secretly We shared the Rueben and it was good. Not the best, but we ignored the burgers and probably shouldn't have. After all it is a burger bar. The strawberry and graham cracker whip was nice. We will be back. Thanks for the good meal.

The burgers were very tasty. That's where it ends. Our first batch of fries were fried too hard. The kids chicken nuggets appeared burnt as well and did NOT have a good taste. The potato salad was very dill in taste. Again, the burgers, extremely good taste. That's it. For us anyway.

I'm not sure if it's worth the price unless you're sharing one of these massive burgers and fries with someone! It's great food, beef tallow used instead of crap ingredients so it's typically more expensive

Everything was really good, but the pot roast burger with the au jus was especially impressive for its depth of flavor. We loved the wings, too! Server was kind and helpful, and the inside was quite a vibe. They have a few arcade machines inside as well, including pinball.

Cute atmosphere. Great tasting burgers. This restaurant is way better quality of food compared to most in Williamsburg. There are only a handful of place I would eat at in this town and this is one of them. My favorite burger is the Au Poivre burger. So stinking good. read more

Today I visited for the first time and I am disgusted. I ordered a burger and fries - requested lettuce tomato onions & bacon. The burger came out COLD- the bun and patty (gross) the cheese, onion and bacon looked like it had been sitting! No tomato, no lettuce so I politely walk back in & ask for the tomato and lettuce the guy take the burger to the back & the employee grabs the LETTUCE AND TOMATO with his BARE HANDS ABSOLUTELY DISGUSTING as I'm standing right there watching Gross!!! Yuck never ever again!!! read more

This place stays super packed, so you know it's good. There's seating outside, a bar inside, & booths inside. There's also two tvs & music(i think alternative music). I was craving a cheesy burger & fries, so I ordered the cook's patty melt with fries. The burger had Swiss cheese, sauerkraut, caramelized onions, mayonnaise, garlic aioli on a toasted seeded rye bread. The fries were freshly made & seasoned with salt. Sooo so good. read more

We've eaten here twice. The food was very good. The burgers are fresh and offer some interesting toppings. I also tried the wings which have a very smoky flavor. It's not very large and both times they were full. My wife had the Rueben and Brussels Sprouts and she said they were both very good. read more

I cannot recommend this new local spot enough. I talk about it to anyone who wants to listen and it has become a bi-weekly favorite. There are captions with the pictures I uploaded that highlight some of my favorites. We sat at the bar tonight and it was delightful. Very good place for burger, fries, and beer. Has a fun retro look and good, friendly staff. My wife and I really enjoyed it and have been back several times. A nice alternative to fast food and most chain sit-down restaurants. Prices are reasonable - not much more than Five Guys. Recommended! read more

So I've been waiting go to this place for weeks but every time I've tried it, it has always been a long wait (not their fault) it's a new restaurant and I know people in town wanted to try some new food. I was in town last week around 3:30 and I called and they actually had some seats unreserved so I rushed up there and was excited to try some new food... but to my disappointment it was very underwhelming I got lemon pepper wings and fries (they were very soggy and very unseasoned) the wings also had a awful smoky pickle after taste. And it was covered in dill It was very disappointing and I was very upset because I was looking forward to some new town food! read more

OMG! A must if you are in Williamsburg! And ask for Jacob.. he is an excellent face for this new little place tucked away in a shopping mall. All local beers including NA options. I had the Sun Shifter - yes... The Farmers Fries were amazing- such garlic flavor and served topped with fresh shredded parm and garlic aioli on the side. They serve a heaping pile (enough for at least 4 people). I suggest them as a side with your burger instead of an appetizer. They serve everything from fresh ingredients. The only thing in their freezer is ice cream. Angus beef burgers cooked to perfection. The Reuben was stacked with house made pastrami. The hot honey baby Brussels sprouts were too good and the serving is a big bowl. We will definitely be back. You will love it!!! I wrote to Guy Fieri to suggest this place for Diners, Drive-Ins, and Dives. The prices are more than reasonable especially for what all you get! Check it out - It is an amazing choice. read more

Was very excited to taste the burgers etc at a local place and when I saw a Patty Melt on their menu, it was a no brainer for me....however, the rye bread was not toasted, they put a sauce on it that tasted like a sauce from a Rueben, and it totally ruined it. The burger itself would have been okay however there were parts that were overly salted. Service at the bar was great, but will not go back. read more

Great old school vibe, service was better than expected given that they just opened. Cook's is a great addition to Williamsburg and the food is in line with the other eateries in the Precarious family. My mushroom burger was on point and the beet deviled eggs were beautiful. The unsung hero of lunch was the order the nicely-salted farmer fries which came with garlic confit that made the dish downright decadent. Note that water is self serve in the back. read more

Such a cool funky place with tasty food. The menu is on the smaller side I was expecting more burger choices especially since it calls itself a "burger bar" but what we had was delicious. They do put a lot of thought in their ingredients. The waitstaff all around was very good, everyone checked on us at some point to ensure we were satisfied with our meal. Burgers are fine if they aren't soggy. Dont even think about an online order for just that reason. If you get the farmers fry basket, expect full garlic gloves in it not always cooked all the way though. The bar tender will certainly try to upsell you, to get extra drinks/shots, generally not the best vibe. He'll also say stuff like "wow, to each their own" when ordering. Like??? He's also kinda rude in general. The place looks great on the inside. ALSO, what kind of self-respecting establishment doesn't take orders over the phone? when they opened I was so excited. Ive been several times. Each time, it just falls off more and more. A real shame if you ask me. read more

Fantastic food with a great menu! Awesome service and terrific for families. Servers are very friendly and went out of the way to make our toddler daughter comfortable and happy. Mediocre pretty much sums it up. As for the hamburger, the lettuce, tomato and onion was fresh but that would be expected at that price point The bun was the best thing about it as the preformed meat patty was nothing to get excited about. The fries was the worse I've seen for a long time. read more

We were all really looking forward to a great burger last night, so we went to Cook's. My husband and I had been there once before, and it was good. Our friends had never tried it before. They were extremely crowded, both inside and out, so we sat outside at the bar. Our drink orders were taken pretty quickly, and so was our food order shortly after that. We were told that a side of fries wasn't very large, so both couples ordered the appetizer fries. That came fairly quickly, and we were told that our burgers would be out "soon." The fries were very good, and we just about finished them, but still had no burgers. Everyone around us was getting served (people who came in after us). At one point, our server told us we'd have our food "in 5 minutes." We were enjoying each others' company and trying to not have this bad service ruin our evening, but after waiting for one and a half hours, I went inside to ask what was going on. Our server told me it would be out in "1 minute." A few minutes later, he brought my husband's and one of our friends' burgers out. My husband's was overcooked and cold, and our friend's order was completely wrong. The server took hers back and had it redone; in the meantime, he brought out mine and our other friend's. I don't know how his was, but mine was burned, stone cold, and had cooked onions (I had requested shaved sweet onions). I told the server to take mine off the check... there was no way I was going to eat a cold, burned burger. He eventually comped mine and our one friend's burgers. Yes, they were busy, but I think a restaurant should still be able to function when busy, especially when all they do is burgers. In retrospect, the entire check should have been comped. What a spot! Take everything that you love about old school diner vibes and mash it up with fantastic quality, locally sourced food at an affordable price. The core menu is simple,approachable, and delicious. Look out for things like duck fat Fridays, and be sure to indulge in the blue plate specials. The old fashioned is cheap and delicious.the farmers fries are absurd. The burgers are great. Additionally, I have celiac disease. Cooks has a variety of great options and I do not fear any risk of cross contamination here. If you are in the area, this is a massive upside, low risk try. We have added it to the standard roster. read more

My Fiancée and visited Cook's for lunch a few weeks ago. Everything was absolutely delicious and I legitimately have dreams about the Farmer's Fries. Burgers are awesome and the beverage selection is extremely unique. They carry tons of beer which you can't find at any other restaurants. The old school 70's vibe of the restaurant is really cool and the service was great as well. We will definitely be back! read more

So I would love to give this place a good review but I seriously don't think everyone's welcome here. I walked in the other day and stood by the bar for about 5 minutes. A lady behind the bar finally took two steps and asked what I needed. I asked to see a menu but she couldn't hear me standing 15 feet away and I couldn't move closer standing at the bar. I proceeded to raise my voice and ask for a to go menu, and she replied we don't have one so I left. About 15 later while leaving Food lion I view a different race couple walk in and they're immediately approached and helped.. Needless to say, I didn't get that wonderful customer service, so I'll never know if the food is good. read more

We had the opportunity to check out this establishment on opening weekend and it was worth our wait! Efficient turn over of tables as they were certainly busy with their 99 cent classic burger which we did not come for but the price was right! The service crew was working together knowing that they were in a rush from the opening moments. While our server was playing a little more of catch up, he was friendly and attentive. The feeling of being in a dinner / 70's bar with some random regalia was an interesting environment. We enjoyed the appearance with some reminiscent thoughts of the past. We each had a classic burger and the option of a gluten free bun for the spouse was a plus and rated a the best gluten free bun she can remember! Nicely cooked and a solid standard options for toppings. Added an appetizer fry and some wings to try. The fries were crisp, well done, with sea salt and fry sauce for dipping. We split these and had leftovers! The wings were hot in temperature and the buffalo seasoning was a solid flavor taste with homemade ranch! Marking as a four because they still have some bugs to work out. Believe it to be a 4.5 overall. We will be back for certain! read more

Delicious! First visit was definitely yummy, will be back for sure. Ordered the smothered chicken cutlets and meatloaf, both came with mashed potatoes and roasted brussel sprouts. I'm always worried that meatloaf will be dried out at a restaurant, but this was moist and flavorful, love the sauce on top. The cutlets were moist and had a nice crust, could have used a touch more salt and seasonings but still was yummy. Also had a side of Mac n cheese, but wasn't blown away by it. Was a little bland. Atmosphere was cool, and we look forward to trying the burgers next time. A+ read more

I've visited cooks a handful of times since they recently opened and it is KILLER!!! From the time you walk in and get the classic diner feel with wood paneling, the music, the vibes, you almost go back in time. My go-to is the mushroom/swiss burger and their fish dip; but everything is fantastic from the tinned fish to the burgers to the sides they really knocked this restaurant concept out of the park. Their executive chef and general manager, David, took time to stop and talk to my party and ensure that we enjoyed everything. The inside of the restaurant resembles every basement I hung out at in my teens in the Midwest. I absolutely love the nostalgia feeling when dining. Food is 10 out of 10. Very difficult to decide what to order because the menu is filled with items that sound delicious. Duck poutine fries were a Friday night special....so delicious and good sized portion. Traveled from Powhatan for the Outlets and wanted a good lunch before heading home. Cooks did not disappoint. I had the Classic Double, my wife had the Mushroom and Swiss. Both were really good. Cooked the way we ordered ( pink for me, no pink for her). The bowl of fries with the Cooks Dip were good too. Pretty neat how they remove the tops off canned drinks. Must save a ton of washing glasses, and was pretty fun to drink from. We sat at the bar ( booths mostly full) and service with Dermont was excellent. A really good visit and will return and recommend in the future. read more

Attentive customer service without being obtrusive. Friendly atmosphere. Appeared as a college type eatery but many patrons were above and below college age. Burger was scrumptious and fries were that of a white whale...A taste I thought forever elusive but once acquired better than I even imagined. Singular bathrooms could be problematic at peak times but I I dined mid afternoon and was fine. This is a place without hesitation I'll visit multiple times. read more

We both settled on the brisket sandwich (a July Fourth special) and one of us got the fries and the other a side of summer veggies that was squash & zucchini. The sandwich was okay but nothing grand for $21 and the veggie side caused us to both explode with laughter at how meager it was. C'mon folks, squash is dirt cheap so load it up. Absolutely ridiculous. Their wine selections were not super familiar to us and pricey but they give you an ample pour. The Inn itself is very beautiful and the night stars shimmering on the reflecting pool out front is very romantic. I'd recommend a drink at the bar and skipping the $200 dinner for two.

My wife had "Chicken Hash", it was like a thick soup. The plating was beautiful and the taste matched. The old fashioned was disappointing because it was so weak. Service was decent, but not much attention. For dessert I got the bread pudding and wife chocolate tart. Both were outstanding! The bill was dropped on the table. It was around $150 w/ tip. I also had the chocolate tart which was very chocolatey. For a drink we had the non alcoholic orange ginger peach bowl, which served our family of 5 just fine for $16. There was entertainment during our meal, a woman came around and sang a colonial song before taking out a recorder and playing a dancing song. This was fun! Our waitress rubbed us the wrong way. She repeated our order several times to us because she was not writing it down. I was not confident we would get the right food. When we tried to add other things she made us wait since she was busy committing everything to memory. She seemed annoyed when we put in other orders for food, but she did bring us an extra peanut soup "in case" we wanted another one, since we had put in an order for a soup after we initially ordered. She did not really seem keen on serving us. The service was slow, too. At the end of the meal, she put something of ours on another table's check, then took our check back to add what she missed. There was also a bowl of soup on our check that we did not order and the card was charged twice, plus another $18 charge. Not sure what ye olde POS system they're using back there...

Our grandson was thirty, so she kept bringing him glasses of water. We had sirloin and prime rib steaks which melted in our mouths. We also had lobster tails and all the fixings: steak fries, rice, broccoli, garlic mashed potatoes and baked potatoes. Everything was great and cooked to perfection! We truly enjoyed our culinary experience at the Aberdeen Barn. All our food was served hot and atmosphere was relaxed and felt like home. Great food, great wait serve and a wonderful experience with our family. If you're in Williamsburg and want an excellent steak and/or mouth watering seafood, this is the restaurant you want to experience. This is one the local's favorite places to eat. I didn't see a speck of seasoning. The beef was chewy and isn't have the crisp that it was supposed to have. I squeezed the lemon that came with it over the meat and it did nothing for it. The vegetales salteados (roasted veggies) and the plantains were both delicious. I ordered a Coke Zero and was given a bottle, which was fine but not expected. The bottle had an expiration date of a month ago. Didn't realize it until about halfway through. We sat next to the door and had to swat at a fly and gnat throughout the meal. Annoying but i don't know what they could've done about that.

One of our new favorite spots in Williamsburg! Went on a Sunday afternoon and only waited 15-20 minutes despite it being completely full. A game or two of Pac Man made the wait fly by even faster. The decor is really nostalgic and fun; it reminds me of an early 90s Pizza Hut combined with an 80s basement. Service was super friendly, efficient, and communicative. I really like that the water is self-serve. Our food was *delicious*. My 11-year old scarfed half of our lemon pepper wings, a bacon burger, and an entire side of fries. My husband had a make-your-own burger, which he loved, and I had the olive burger. I never want to eat a burger without olive mayo again! Can't wait to try more menu options on our next visit. Such an awesome restaurant, not only is the food delicious but the decorations and vibe there are amazing. I was very impressed with the kids chicken nuggets when we ordered them. I did not expect to get real breaded and brined chicken nuggets when they came to our table. I couldn't help myself and sampled off my daughters plate and they were delicious. I got the bacon burger and it was just as delicious. They also have a great canned beer selection from local breweries that seems to always be revolving. The ATG team has added another amazing concept to our town. Took my wife and son there for lunch and we loved it all. Started off with some of the smoked wings, I enjoyed the bacon burger, my wife had the mushroom Swiss, and my son crushed the toddler plate. All was washed down with a few Cooks light cans, which were only 3 dollars a pop. Everything tasted great. Loved the atmosphere, and the service was friendly and fast. Our server was quick with an etch-a-sketch to entertain my son, who was acting like most feral two year olds do in public. Great spot that will be frequented often by my family. Cook's is truly unlike any other restaurant in the area. They have done a phenomenal job of transforming the space into an old-school type diner atmosphere with a large bar, inside tables/booths and outside seating. I really appreciate how we can see right into the kitchen and watch the chefs work their magic. I also LOVE the fact they offer cocktails, old school beers and a few other drink options. Have been to Cook's several times since their opening. Have tried several of their entrees. Bar service was extraordinary, Alex greeted us on all three occasions. His professional service and hospitality are very much appreciated. His demeanor and attitude shows his experience in the business. Many venues are about the bottom dollar, Cook's has a totally different atmosphere, the old school diner feel makes this place feel more comfortable. I went her late in the evening with my family and ordered the farmers fries to share and a build your own burger for myself. The farmers fries were delicious and served with garlic solo which made them ten times better and the burger was perfectly cooked and the toppings were portioned well. The decorations and retro arcade games helped create a nice atmosphere and really made the experience all the better. Recently went to Cook's for dinner after a long day of work. Loved the retro look. Had the option of sitting at bar or table. Sat with the friendly and knowledgeable bartender.
