Pleasantly surprised by Cookshop! I wrote it off initially as trying to do too much with their menu, but I really enjoyed everything we got. They have a big patio which is really nice for our rare beautiful weather days. Luckily it was one when we ate here! Our server was fun and cooperated with my uncle's crazy jokes. The staff here are very attentive and proactive, and there is a high level of service. We had the focaccia and fried asparagus to start and both were amazing. It had been years since I'd been to the Cookshop and felt it was worth a revisit. I started with a very unique dish - the Warm Carolina Shrimp - it sounded inviting on a cold day. The shrimp, a generous portion of medium sized, sat atop a bed of citrus and salad. I didn't expect the citrus flavor to blend with the shrimp, but it was excellent. The shrimp were tender, and the pomegranates, mandarin and orange, with a citrus garlic vinaigrette added such a wonderful burst of flavor. I had the Cookshop Burger for my main dish. I asked to have it cooked Medium Well - pink. It comes with fries. The burger, at least the first few bites were delicious, but then, as I got towards the middle of the burger, the meat was medium to medium rare. I cut out the center, and ate the remaining burger. I was disappointed as the meat was very good, but very 'undercooked', for me. The fries were okay - they're very thin, and as a result, very hard, or tough to chew. I like a thicker, 'meatier' fry. I did mention the undercooked issue to my server, and without my asking, he removed the burger from the bill! So nice! I'm sure that burger would have been perfect for many others who liked their meat cooked medium or medium rare. I will be revisiting Cookshop - I know they can get it right the next time! read more

I got the Cookshop Egg Sandwich ($18)- it was very tasty with a generous amount of well-cooked bacon, 2 fried eggs, cheese, onions, and pickles. I will say I do think the bread was a bit too hard and the pickle flavor was strong, but otherwise I enjoyed the sandwich. The interior of the restaurant has a lovely vibe with plenty of natural sunlight and nice modern decor in a spacious setting. The staff are super friendly and attentive. Tonight, I went along to Cookshop on 10th Avenue here in Manhattan. Having been there before, I knew I would order the roast chicken. It did not fail. To try something new, I ordered the oysters for an appetizer. While tasty, they were so very small. I know oysters come in different sizes, but these were truly barely little slips. I ordered dessert and coffee, as well. The coffee was excellent. The dessert was a kind of fudge cake with nuts and salt caramel. I did not expect it to be so very sweet. I could not eat but a few bites. It did not help that the creme fraiche on top was quite sour. I know creme fraiche has a bit of tang to it, but is it supposed to be as sour as that? I thought maybe it was past its date. I did let the waiter know. I would still give five stars, but for the manager coming over to give me a lecture on how creme fraiche is made. Ha! Came here to visit a longtime friend/former coworker for lunch after many years. With such a impromptu decision on my end, we had to find a place near the Chelsea area that we could grab lunch during the workweek and not worry about reservations. I'm not a big gin guy, but I really did appreciate the cocktail as the cucumber and apples aptly hid the strong flavor of the gin. Can be dangerous haha, but one won't hurt. I also appreciate that it came in a larger glass so I could enjoy it through the end of the meal. As for the main meal, I debated between the butter bean & quinoa salad and the Sedanini, but couldn't resist the latter. My friend chose the former (with egg) and loved it. For me, the presentation sold me. You got the pasta layered in the lemon ricotta (great touch) and the sun dried tomatoes. A tad bit of heat with the chili, but thought it was very filling, even if the plate didn't immediately look so. The prices ain't for the faint of heart, so be prepared for this.
