Copinette is a fantastic American restaurant in Midtown East. [[HIGHLIGHT]]They have a nice ambience inside.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] The one negative was that the service was a little slow. I got the chicken martini which was Parmesan-crusted chicken breast with asparagus, mushrooms, and artichoke sauce. This dish was incredible and exploded and flavor!

Went to Copinette for an early dinner on Christmas Day. The food was just wonderful. Two of my party had the pistachio crusted lamb chops and one had the filet mignon. We all loved our meals. My family raved about their shrimp tower appetizer and my Cesar salad was "ok". Service was a little slow even though it wasn't overly crowded. But that's to be expected on a holiday. I'm definitely coming back, pretty much the tastiest lamb chops I've ever had.

[[HIGHLIGHT]]Ambiance (5/5): It's very beautiful on the inside with an elevated-fancy feel. To the left is a bar and seating and to the right (there's some stairs) to the main dining area. It is spacious and welcoming.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Service (5/5): Superior service from beginning to end. Service and food were timed very well with the table cleared out often. The staff were very courteous and friendly. Food (3/5): The biggest letdown was the food which all had a stellar presentation. Shrimp Tower (4/5): Fresh flavors, delish homemade potato chip on top. French Onion Soup (3/5): savory with the cheese on top but something about it was missing something Crab Cake (3/5): Although this tasted very fresh, the portion was very small with singular patty consisting mostly of crab meat with the sauce/dressing mixed in. It comes with a side salad that was fine but not impressive. Roasted Cauliflower (2/5): Absolutely bland as if it was thrown in the oven with no dressing or breading. The chipotle sauce hardly provided any additional flavoring. Lobster Risotto (3/5): The presentation was gorgeous with the lobster tail prepared for easy eating. I wished the lobster flavor was more integrated into the risotto or it was more savory/had flavor. It felt like I was eating salted rice. Chilean Sea Bass (3/5): The skin of the bass was lightly charred atop a bed of sautéed spinach and potatoes. The fish was cooked well with the meat tender and juicy. However, the sauce just did not hit the mark--either the wine sauce was to thin to coat the food or there wasn't enough of it? Again, left with wondering what it was missing.

I just found out Gene Hackman died, and it reminded me that Jamie W and I dined here on a recent wintry weekender in Manhattan. What's the connection, you may ask? Well, we were seated at a table with a brass plaque that stated "In this spot was the table where the legendary seen (sic) was filmed for THE FRENCH CONNECTION - 1972 Oscar winner - Best Picture of the Year" (photo: https://yelp.to/6HhwuxGNOl). We were looking for dinner close to our Midtown East hotel, and it was just a fifteen-minute walk, granted we were constantly pummeled with hail and wind. The menu was a nice reward though with a nice melding of Italian and seafood dishes. Given the inclement weather, it was a blessing it was a casual dining setting. We started our evening with a couple of $16 Wake Me Up Martinis, their nom de plume for espresso martinis with Meill vodka and Mr. Black (photo: https://yelp.to/WnSj8ESL41). It was a tasty libation to accompany our warmed complimentary oat dinner roll (photo: https://yelp.to/fLOs2l1Hzr). Jamie picked the $15 Copinette Caesar Salad. It was a well executed version with no surprise - romaine, hard-boiled egg, Parmesan shavings, crostini croutons (photo: https://yelp.to/Ys2lJoBT7B). I went with the $22 Grilled Octopus, a generous, charred tentacle accompanied by arugula, capers, red onion, olives, a drizzle of balsamic vinaigrette, and a swoosh of parsnip purée (photo: https://yelp.to/-_DReC92tf). That was quite delicious and not too overdone. For his entree, Jamie ordered the $31 Grilled Branzino, a hearty size filet resting on top of sauteed spinach, garlic mashed potatoes, lemon, capers, kalamata olives, and cherry tomatoes with a generous drizzle of basil olive oil (photo: https://yelp.to/J9sC06cJrp). The fish was tender and flavorful presented with layers of flavor. I was more indulgent and ordered the $32 Lobster Risotto (photo: https://yelp.to/MgzMCHgFuc). It was creamy but a bit oversalted with the risotto freckled with green peas, cherry tomatoes, and scallions. However, the lobster tail was generous and succulent enough. We were pretty stuffed though their dessert selection was tempting with coconut pineapple cake and affogato among the choices. I have to mention that the muzak was loud and the music way too aerobic for the ambiance. FOOD - 4 stars...hearty portions, satisfying flavors AMBIANCE - 3.5 stars...relatively low-key interrupted by the cacophonous muzak SERVICE - 3.5 stars...attentive enough TOTAL - 4 stars...definitely a viable Midtown East dining option with a French Connection connection RELATED - Hungry in NYC? Super friendly service all around. We had some specific customizations we wanted, and the waitress patiently listened to and adhered to all of them. Appreciate their friendliness and flexibility. Brunch was solid. [[HIGHLIGHT]]Not super crowded - but enough people to experience a real vibe.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] I participate likes that there was an entire Eggs section on the menu. Kids menu options are available as well (I tried some of the pancake, and it was delectable). Their omelette of the day was solid with the salad and truffle fries included. Very happy with this restaurant overall.

We went here to have brunch and Inwas happily pleased! Amerixan with a French Flair- I ended up with warm goat cheese salad-frisée, beets, prosciutto, and hazelnut vinaigrette on the side. They also give you a croissant on the side. it was very good. My friends got scrambled eggs with bacon (took half home) and blueberry buttermilk pancakes-with strawberries, blueberries, blueberry syrup and whipped cream for my college daughter. Everyone qas very pleased. The place is so pretty with its pictures and flowers. There also is an upstairs which is lovely. We decided not to have any dessert here. I would come back as it is a very nice place that is worth trying again

My friend and I visited Copinette earlier this year for brunch and looooved their French onion soup. It brought us back last week for a post happy hour dinner! We shared a French onion soup and the roasted scallops for appetizers. The soup was as delicious as I remembered!! The scallops were good and cooked well. For entrees, we shared the truffle risotto and the Hazelnut Mushroom Crusted Halibut. Lovedddd the risotto. The halibut was a tiny bit overcooked in my opinion but still enjoyed it. We also shared a good bottle of Pinot Grigio! Service wise, we were greeted by a warm and cheerful man at the door, which was lovely! Our waitress was not super attentive but the restaurant was packed for a Monday night! She never helped to refill our wine glasses and since she put the ice bucket across the table from us, we had to keep getting up to refill our glasses ourselves. Will be back for the French onion soup among others! Lots of great things on their menu I want to eat my way through.

Had a pleasant experience at Copinette! Was here for a small work dinner on a Monday night. It was warm inside and they had a coat check as well. Service was exceptionally fast! Our appetizers came out so fast I was surprised. I must've gained about 10lbs - everything was pretty good! Only hiccup is that they accidentally marked down both our Steak Frites dinner with no fries. Once served, they told us their mistake and asked if we still wanted the fries. (Obviously!!!?!?) Once the fries came out, they only gave us 1 side order instead of both. Not sure why this happened! Other than that, staff were friendly and would come back.

We came for the 7th anniversary celebration and had a great time. We started off with the cosmos, which were nicely made and not to sweet. We had the tuna tartare and tortellinis. The tortellinis were simple and kind of tasted like dumplings. The meat platter came with a mix of steak, chorizo and ground meat kebab, which was all well cooked. I only wish there were a few more onion rings included! [[HIGHLIGHT]]There was a saxophonist playing the night we were there. It was a bit noisy but they do have upstairs seating as well.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Overall a great experience and good service.

Absolutely loved Copinette! Came last month & as luck would have it was during their anniversary week. Delish drinks & insanely yummy food. Came here for my sister in laws birthday brunch. Food was decent, but the portion sizes were very small. The waitress recommended a dish to my husband that was very small and he was left hungry. They did sign happy birthday, which was nice but the dessert again was very small. Not a great experience overall.

Had a really lovely time here for dinner as a party of nine. We were seated upstairs, where we had the area to ourselves. ALL the apps we orders were very good! The slaw with the Crab Cake paired nicely, and the sauce and mushrooms with the Pan Seared Scallops were so YUM! The Grilled Octopus was very tender and not chewy at all, like some places. We got the Salmon Tartare special and everything about it was delicious! Fried calamari is a must with large parties, as it's an easy dish to share. The Steak was perfectly cooked and came with the crispiest sweet potato fries. The Sea Bass was moist and I really enjoyed the roasted potatoes that came with it. There was ample lobster in the Lobster Linguini dish, which was pleasant. The Grilled Branzino was okay, nothing special. Great, attentive staff. Overall, had a wonderful time. Nice spot for a date night, comfortable meal, or special occasion!

Came here for a quick work lunch. A random assortment of notes: 1. Lots of outdoor seating, but the section in the road is a little precarious, especially if you're facing downhill, because you're sandwiched between cars zooming uphill (including massive trucks who look like they're going a little too quickly) and cyclists, who at least slow down a little because of the natural incline. It's kind of like sitting on a very slow-moving roller coaster as you're eating a meal, which, I don't know, might be your thing. 2. Free house bread! I miss places that do this. 3. Ordered the branzino, which came out nicely cooked and seared. Came on a bed of wilted spinach, tomatoes, capers, and mashed potatoes, which, as always, was my favorite part of the dish. A solid lunch spot. The menu is quite varied (salads, sandwiches, burgers, entrees) so good for anyone trying to pin down a ton of food preferences or dietary restrictions. If you're looking for a great place to hold a party for a dozen people or so then try Copinette. After much searching for a venue with a private room I came upon this lovely restaurant in midtown with a quiet, intimate mezzanine room. Perfect for my luncheon. I spoke with Amy, their resourceful events planner, who helped me decide the menu, the service delivery, and all things related from start to finish. She was terrific. Also fabulous was Andrew, the owner/manager, who was welcoming and assured me we would have a great time and that Copinette would be able to provide for all our needs. My party was both a birthday and Galentines Day celebration. Upon arriving at the restaurant guests enjoyed a private cocktail hour at the bar before ascending to the mezzanine. The wait staff was extremely efficient and pleasant throughout the day accommodating our every wish. Andrew even helped me with the decorating. The food was absolutely delicious. Some of my favorites were the shrimp tower and tortellini appetizers and the exquisite filet mignon and lamb chops. Generous servings throughout the meal. Desserts like peach melba were light and a fine cap to our dining experience. A special shoutout to Jorge, our special waiter and guide, who kept the beverages flowing and the meal moving along. Came here on a Sunday evening in March, and had a fantastic meal at Copinette! It was a large group setting, with 4 couples (8 of us) and a baby! Did outdoor seating and we had a tent on the street ("patio"). From start to finish we really had a fantastic time, the service was a bit slow, but didn't bother us too much since we were catching up and enjoying the long drawn-out dinner. The food overall was fabulous, and everyone seemed to love their dishes! Drinks took a while to come, and they were expensive and not very strong which was a bit of a miss. If you are in not much of a hurry, the experience would be fine! My husband I got these two dishes and shared: 1. Pistachio Dijon Crusted Rack of Lamb - parsnip puree, roasted cipollini, haricots vert, lamb jus 2. Steak Frites - NY strip, peppercorn sauce, sea salt french fries with mesclun greens I would say I was impressed with the crusted rack of lamb, but the steak frites was good, but nothing to write home about. Other people in our group god the Fettuccine Bolognese, the Grilled Branzino, the Lobster Risotto, and a special which was half lobster, and half other seafood (shrimp, oysters, scallops), and everyone seemed to love their dishes, no complaints! Overall solid meal, and would come back! Maybe the wine over the cocktails since they were so weak, but overall would recommend unless you are on a strict schedule because the food was good! read more

I came here a few weeks ago with a few friends to have brunch and we were surprised by how quiet the restaurant was. It was a Saturday afternoon around noon/1PM, as well, so we were especially curious why there weren't that many people around. All that aside, we had no issues getting a reservation and the service was excellent -- quick, friendly, efficient. The decor on the inside was nice and the restaurant is quite spacious with a second level above the main entrance/bar. The food itself was terrific. I went for the pancakes which were amazing -- the perfect amount of crisp on the outside while still being fluffy and airy on the inside. My friends went for the eggs benedict as well as the french toast and both were incredible, too! My one regret was that we forgot to ask about the fresh bread/butter (it's complimentary) until it was too far into our meal and we were way too full. Also, if you're going to check out one of the starters -- go for the bacon-wrapped shrimp! All in all, I enjoyed my experience here and would definitely come back. I really enjoyed my experience here for dinner. I sat outdoors to enjoy the weather. I had the lobster risotto which I paired for the riesling. It was cooked perfectly, the risotto melted in my mouth. The flavor was just spot on. I then had the affogato which was the perfect way to end the evening. My server was was friendly and prompt. Bad Service! I went there sat in the bar area after 15 minutes no service! I called over a waiter and asked can I be served here he said yes and walked away never to be seen again. I waited another 15 min no service. the bar tender saw me sitting there with no response. when I first walked in I asked can i be served at the bar she said yes later that woman saw me sitting there and did nothing knowing I had not been served 30 min and no service. I went to the bar tender and said is it possible to be served here? She said Do you want a drink? Really no Im here to watch your plants grow... I thought in my head as I walked out. the food is good the service is hit or miss. read more

Copinette has been in my restaurant bookmarks for some time and I'm glad I finally dined here for dinner last night! We had a wonderful evening sitting under the tented seating area outside. We started with the Tuna Tartare followed by Steak Frites, Filet Mignon, and the Branzino. I love bread, as I'm sure most people do and I must say the complimentary bread rolls are on point here. All of our meals were delicious and I would definitely return. As we approach the warmer months, Copinette is a great spot for outdoor dining serving up delicious fare paired with a friendly and attentive wait staff. Love this neighborhood gem! We made a reservation for dinner after drinks on a Friday night. The noise level was medium, and I was surprised to see a few families with children given the menu selection. Drinks were refreshing and delicious, and the food is rich and elegant. Valentine's Day Covid-19 Review: *APPETIZER CRISPY TORTELLINI $14 veal, pork, beef, lemon zest creme fraiche *texture reminded me of Asian dumplings but I did enjoy this appetizer and can see why it's one of their top sellers *ENTREES STEAK FRITES $34 ny strip, peppercorn sauce, sea salt french fries with mesclun greens *this is going to sound odd but the texture of the NY strip was a bit watery, almost as if it was previously frozen and then cooked, extremely small portion of fries and mesclun greens aren't dressed they're just wet and lemony, usually when you order steak frites it's a heaping portion of fries and small cut pieces of steak, this was the opposite with an entire steak (not cut) and small portion of fries *WINE/COCKTAILS Tempranillo $14 gl / Ramon Bilbao Crianza, 2016 Rioja *Fruity and medium bodied - went well with the steak Malbec | $12 gl / Terrazas 2017 Mendoza *Dry and light to medium bodied, I liked the Tempranillo more Gene Hackman | $15 Makers mark, brown sugar, bitters, orange slice, cherry *This cocktail is extremely sweet yet bitter, did not like it Peach Margarita | $15 Casamigos tequila, peach schnapps, cointreau, lime *Sweet and balanced The biggest negative is that it was as cold inside the restaurant as it was outside. This was a delightful experience. We had a 7PM curtain for a show on the East Side and chose this based upon its menu and the fact it was offering a $45 restaurant week menu. [[HIGHLIGHT]]We arrived at 5:15 and were, again, delighted by the greeting and ambiance.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Besides the menu we found that it was "happy hour" and the drinks were $10. When you get a special menu you sometimes expect the choices to be limited and smaller. Here there were 3 choices for each serving. We had the arugula salad - which was very large and the stuffed peppers. Both of them were delicious. Then came the branzio and chicken francese - terrific and full size portions. Finally, we both had the peach melba. The only "warning" is that their service is not very fast, it is relaxed, but attending. The people could not have been nicer. As long as you are not in a hurry - try it. Even the regular menu is priced reasonably for a New York City restaurant. We will be going again. read more

Copinette is probably a staple neighborhood spot for a reason. I visited with a companion for an early brunch. When I arrived I was given the pick of any outdoor table I wanted (I requested outdoor seating). The tables had infrared heaters, though their effectiveness was hampered by high winds that day. The strength of the wind also shook their tent structures a lot. You won't have to worry about that too much because Spring is here and the temperatures are warming up. As far as the food, the French know what they're doing as far as Breakfast/Brunch go. I had the French toast, washed that down with some bellinis and I think I had some fruit on the side instead of dessert. It was all solid in my opinion. If I'm ever in the area I think I'd go back again. the neighborhood itself is very chill too. So flag this place on your lists! read more

Lovely place. First time eating here today with friends. Sat indoors. Some staff are not wearing masks anymore, since most folks here are vaccinated, so just fyi if that's a concern. A rare 70 degree Sunday in November = one more outdoor boozy brunch! After having seeing the cute, socially-distanced tented outdoor seating area at Copinette, my friends and I decided that this would be where we would go to eat and drink and bask in the warm weather. When we were not sat under the heat lamps but then it got cold they moved us which was very nice. The food was good except my hash browns were a bit mushy. Wow! We were just in the neighborhood and I found Copinette on yelp as a place that took reservations for that evening. The food was so delicious with great portions. Plenty of natural light and a very open space to make the dining experience that much. For brunch me and my girlfriend a shared the buttermilk pancakes. As well as steak and eggs with comes with fries, side salad and two sunny side up eggs. The portions were plentiful and each dish came to be about $20 each. My wife and twin children started going to Copinette when they opened almost 2 years ago. The staff has always been fantastic and the food has never disappointed. One of their family recipes, Crispy Tortellini, has become my "all time favorite food" (sorry pizza!). In addition to being regulars in the dining room for dinner, we've rented out the venue for 4 private parties (Baptism, baby shower, twin's first birthday, my company party). All were exceptional events (one of the owners, Amy, is a photographer and emailed us several really great pics!). The wine list is extensive and always has something new and interesting on it. My wife and I decided to finally try this neighborhood restaurant that has been open for at least a year to celebrate our 13th wedding anniversary. Our dinner began with maitre d' Andrew explaining why one of their cocktails is named the "Gene Hackman," which he explained is because the restaurant's location was featured in 1971's "The French Connection" movie starring actor Gene Hackman, when the restaurant operated under the name "Copain." Since the movie's filming, the venue has hosted several other restaurants of note, including Wiley's Ribs and Destino. Our initial reaction was "this is a gem of a restaurant" in our neighborhood, with an excellent selection of French / American cuisine with an Italian accent. We tried the Arugula Salad, Crispy Tortellini, Pan Roasted Salmon and Mushroom Bolognese from Copinette's $35 per person three course prix fixe menu... each of which was excellently prepared and presented. The Warm Chocolate Bourbon Cake and Peach Melba desserts were outstanding. The Wait staff is very friendly, knowledgeable and attentive, and our one-and-a-half our dining experience passed much too quickly. Overall, Copinette is a very pleasant place to enjoy a relaxing and wonderful meal, and we will definitely return for brunch or lunch soon. Highly recommended. read more

Copinette is a great example of why Manhattan is so awesome. My coworker and I stumbled on it when looking for a place to eat in the area. It was spacious and wasn't too packed for lunch. Everything was very clean and they had ample room between tables which I love. They also have a private room upstairs if needed. In the back of the dining area they also have a semiprivate area that is separated by a curtain. It could probably sit 10-12 people comfortably. Back to the food... I went with the cobb salad which I like to order since it makes me feel healthy even though it probably isn't. It was solid. The salad wasn't overdressed and the chicken was perfectly cooked. You can tell they know what they are doing. The Sandwiches are also good. It is pretty standard fare here and you know what you are going to get. I would definitey come back for lunch and maybe even a dinner. The bathrooms were clean as well which is always a good sign for a restaurant. 4 star place all the way. read more

You must visit this restaurant to get the full experience as my review won't quite do justice. Request Emilio to be your waiter. Absolutely wonderful experience. Starts with the welcome and then the food. My three guests were thrilled with their perfectly prepared salmon and dinner salad suggestions. I had the lobster linguine and it's as though the chef placed an entire lobster tail and claw in the delicious linguine and sauce. Very generous and highly appreciated. We stayed and enjoyed a wonderful conversation and none of the staff rushed us to depart!! The young male Hispanic employee at the register refused to hand over my bag, insisting the pickup window didn't start until 5:15. All the bags were already packed and ready. There were no other customers in line. I tried to explain how the app works and that early pickup had been allowed here before, but he repeatedly cut me off. At one point I said "if you want to play by the book, so be it" -- meaning it as a neutral acknowledgment. He took offense, raised his voice, and kept repeating "I don't play, you play" in an increasingly hostile tone. I asked if he understood the expression. He just kept repeating "I don't play." When I asked to speak with a manager, he said there wasn't one. When I asked what a customer is supposed to do when there's a problem with an employee, he told me to come back tomorrow and talk to him. This was completely avoidable. The bags were ready. It was a 5-10 minute window, allowed by the app. The confrontation served no purpose. I noticed the review posted the day before mine mentions "poor customer service at the register" -- I suspect we encountered the same person. Maman has a good reputation worth protecting. I'd encourage management to review this interaction and make sure this particular staff is trained properly.

The Chicken Cordon Bleu was good, and a hard-to-find dish in NYC. While eating our entrees, the server never checked on how things were or if we needed anything. Once finished, we sat there for a long time waiting for our plates to be cleared, and finally had to "announce" that we were done and request our dessert (as we had ordered the prix fixe menu). For dessert we ordered the Dame Blanche and Profiteroles. I would recommend neither. The ice cream (in both) was poor quality, crystallized and not creamy. A real shame. In all, the meal too 2.5 hours due to the slow service. The soup remains fantastic. I'm downgrading my review to recommend this spot only for soup and salad and not a full, hours-long meal. For that, it's 5 stars, for a full meal a middling 3.

And, for $13, that's pretty cheap for the amount of food you get. I would eat it again if the line was 5 minutes. Otherwise, I'm positive you will find similar food/better food elsewhere.

If you typically like heavier, diner food then this spot might be the place for you!

One star is generous... the service was soooooo bad the waitress was soooo rude and didn't speak English when our food came to the table it was cold and when we had an issue regarding a few of our orders and the server wasn't helpful at all she would past the problem onto the other waiter who also didn't speak English and would say it's their problem we would try to ask for help regarding the bacon which looked and tasted fake and the French toast which was raw and the toppings had strawberry on top (which weren't the ingredients on the menu ) . The guest in our party was allergic To strawberries. And we had asked many times for the manger to attend our issues an he never came to help us after a long time and one of the member of our party getting him herself he finally showed up to resolve the issue. This is the WORST experience i have ever had. First of all the french toast was said to be made with something & came out with something else so when we asked we were told that it'll be "checked" but never heard back, once we cut the french toast it was completely uncooked so we complained & our waitress ignored us 3 separate times & when we asked for the manager she never got him for us so we had to get him ourselves. the owner who was DRUNK at 11 am came over to speak with us and started yelling because the waitress was crying accusing us of yelling at her when she didn't even speak to us when we tried to get her attention. Exceeded expectations! I don't even know where to start - the service, food, ambiance - everything was perfect. I recently held my Bridal Shower at the Copinette, and I couldn't be happier. All of my guests loved everything about the restaurant, and it turned out to be the most perfect day ever. The food was so delicious, and the restaurant went above and beyond to make sure everything was executed perfectly. This is probably one of the nicest dining experience I had in a wile. Me and my girlfriend shared tuna tartare for our appetizer, taste was refreshing and kinda opened our appetite for the main dish.
