When I worked in Martinez I was always curious about the Copper Skillet. It has been a part of the city for years. I took some friends to Amtrak and decided it might be a good time to stop in. Street parking was easy; I guess there was nothing much going on at the courthouse. Ivy R. mentioned in her review that at one time this was the court building. When I walked in there were several people dining alone so I did not feel bad taking up a table for just me. The servers were friendly. Even though I only dropped my friends at the train station I was in a road trip frame of mind. I ordered chicken fried steak with country fries. I did have them leave the eggs off the plate. I knew I would not be hungry enough to eat them, and reheated eggs at home did not sound interesting. The food wasn't bad I have had this treat many times and I did not enjoy it this time. The country-fried potatoes were excellent. If I go back I might try the waffles that Toni M enjoyed here. The service was fine. The fellow at the next table was pushing his fries around, the server asked him what was wrong, and he said they were overcooked. She offered to take them back or bring him something else. Their dinner menu is completely different from their regular menu. So this review will reflect on the quality of their dinner menu. The person on the phone who helped us was patient when talking to us and answered all of our questions. I got the Hot Fried Chicken Sandwich, substituting with Onion Rings and also ordered a regular Strawberry Shake. The chicken sandwich was amazing. It was super crispy and juicy. The heat it brought made me sweat the the bun was grilled perfectly. There was a lot of food and even now, I feel completely full. The onion rings were pretty basic. The strawberry shake was pretty good. I really enjoyed the taste of ice cream and strawberries in it. I spent about $20 for this meal and, although a bit pricey, I still enjoyed it. Next time I go, I would have to try their regular menu. However, I still recommend their dinner menu. read more

Copper Skillet is a local favorite breakfast and lunch restaurant that is very warm and inviting. There is plenty of parking in the back as well as a front and back entrance. Copper Skillet has a cozy and homey cabin vibe with an all wood interior. They have clever seating areas like "the attic" and "the jury box." We were seated right away in a cute little booth. We were lucky to get here before the rush. The staff is friendly and attentive and my coffee was always topped off. Good coffee too! Most breakfast spots serve lighter coffee. Although it wasn't as rich as I prefer, it did have some oomph to it! So yes, keep the coffee coming! The food arrived at our table pretty quickly as well. The breakfast menu is extensive and is served all day until 3 pm. We knew we wanted to share a sweet and savory dish so we ordered the Strawberry Waffle and the Chicken Fried Steak & Eggs. The prices are very reasonable and the portions are huge and hearty. Come here hungry because you're getting a lot of food! The Chicken Fried Steak & Eggs had a yummy gravy. It was creamy with the right amount of pepper. The country potatoes could have been a tad crispier though. Kind of flat in taste. The Strawberry Waffle was scrumptious. It's like eating dessert for breakfast. The strawberries were nice and sweet and the waffle was big and fluffy. This family owned restaurant is an institution in Martinez. I was in Martinez running errands with a friend and decided to grab a quick bite afterwards. Although it was pretty crowded, we were able to seat ourselves in a booth around noontime. I ordered the Strawberry Pancakes, while my friend ordered the Tuna Melt from their Lunch Special menu. Food came out fairly quickly, and overall tasted good. Portion sizes were generous, as both of us couldn't finish our meal. I greatly appreciate the plentiful amount of strawberries on my pancake, but not so much the whipped cream. Service was friendly and our coffee was frequently refilled. The restaurant itself was cute and gave off a rustic vibe as much of the structure is composed of wood. I also thought it was a nice touch to have seating areas called the "Jury Box" and "Judge's Chambers," assuming this is a hot spot for individuals called in for jury duty. Had an absolutely excellent breakfast here. The only downside is the less-than-desirable setting in front, on the sidewalk. No "parklet" here, just chintzy tables, but great food and great service! Be warned you pay right after ordering if you sit out front. Also, the owner told me they're working on a courtyard off the street! I cannot wait! Loved it here!! The space is a little small & you have to find street parking, but other than that, everything was amazing! Service was my favorite thing about this place. I came in with a friend & we both had babies in strollers & when we got to the front door, a woman offered to help bring the strollers up the two steps & moved around chairs to accommodate us. I ordered the bacon, spinach, & mushroom & added pepper jack cheese..so yummy! We also got a mimosas that were good..the server let us know it would be cheaper to get a whole bottle of champagne & split it between us rather than order mimosas separately too. My brother and his grandson took me to the Copper skillet today for a late breakfast. I recommend this place for every reason that you go out to eat. The service was exceptional, the waitress was exceptional, she was more attentive and helpful than probably 90% of the restaurants I've been to while at the same time, not interrupting our conversations or the enjoyment of our meal. Needless to say, I left her a very substantial tip. The food was excellent. I'm very picky about my eggs. I have chickens at home and I have fresh eggs every day. The eggs were delicious and cooked perfectly. Anyway, if you want to go someplace and have an amazing meal, you should try the Copper skillet located in Martinez. Came here Sunday morning for breakfast and it was packed. I was actually surprised how many people/ packed it was. We got seated pretty quickly inside. They have a standing section for the drink truck outside called the guzzler which i thought was pretty cool. I even saw people bring the drinks inside so i think they are partnered together! I ordered the courtyard special. My choice of eggs, sausage, bacon and either a waffle, 4 pancakes, or fresh toast ( 2 pieces). I ordered mine with scrambled eggs, waffle and sausage. Hubby ordered the hook up and I'm not gonna lie was a little jealous of his meal. He got crispy hash browns, and basically a waffle sandwich with gravy, sausage, eggs and cheese, it looked amazing and i wasn't allowed to touch so i assume it was bomb LOL. It was pretty tasty our meal came about to $33 so pretty cheap breakfast they have a lot of options and it was a gorgeous day out so to walk off our food coma we walked to the farmers market up the street.
