Franklin, Tennessee has more than it's fair share of really good restaurants but Cork & Cow stands out for me. On a recent visit to the area, we used Yelp (of course) to find recommendations for dinner and were impressed with the reviews for Cork & Cow. After spending a nice afternoon strolling around town and around The Factory, we decided to head that way for an early dinner. We'd already learned that Franklin-ians dine early...really early...like 5:30 early...so we headed over to Cork & Cow shortly after 5PM. While there weren't any tables available (!) we were able to get seated in the bar, which offers full menu service. This is very possibly the best thing that could have happened. We seated ourselves at a two person high top near the bar, and the bartender quickly popped out and over to us with water, menus and a truly wonderful personality. Zach was warm and engaging and made us feel as if we were in his home for dinner. In just a few moments' time, he gave us a run down on the menu and the specials of the evening. He also told us that Sundays are HALF PRICE for bottles of wine up to $100. This made us very happy and we immediately ordered a bottle of our favorite pinot noir (Meiomi - even if you don't like pinots, you'll like this one). As a starter, we chose the Kitchen Plate and I recommend it to everyone. Awesome warm olives and seasonal selections (one of ours was persimmon - truly marvelous!), served with cheeses and crostini. This is exactly the kind of appetizer I love. Because the restaurant was on the cusp of switching their menu offerings, they had a bone-in filet special, served with potatoes and we decided to split the entree. The filet was a perfect medium-rare and needed no additional seasonings or sauces...to me, that's the mark of a truly good steak in the hands of a truly good chef. Throughout the entire meal, Zach popped over, refreshed water, made pleasant conversation and generally acted as the perfect host. This restaurant appears to be one of a group of local restaurants and we did dine at another of the locations while in town. Our experience there was also good, but the combination of excellent service and excellent food puts Cork & Cow at the very top of our list of restaurants to visit in Franklin. A few items to note - 1) Cork & Cow is attached to another restaurant - 55 South - and GPS may give you the 55 South street address (Main Street), but the Cork & Cow entrance is on Fourth Street 2) the entrance is directly across from a parking deck and there is street parking available 3) as with other restaurants in town, the price points are on the expensive end of the spectrum but our experience here was totally worth it 4) sit in the bar, especially if Zach is tending read more

Spent a night celebrating at Cork and Cow. We had a table upstairs, tucked away which I liked. The cocktails, Brussels sprouts, steaks, French fries, red wine, dessert, chocolate martini, everything was delicious. My filet was so flavorful and my husband's ribeye was like butter. Disclaimer from the get-go: this restaurant has big city steakhouse prices. Our tab for 4 was $350 before tip, but everything we had was delicious and the service flawless. We split house salads, then 2 filets, 1 bone-in strip, 1 rack of lamb, 3 sides of spinach, 1 side of French fries, 3 beers, 2 bottles of wine, and an ice cream cake dessert. Steaks and lamb were perfectly cooked, very juicy and flavorful, sides quite good, ice cream cake over-the-top good. Attractive space, very appealing vibe. Tonight was our first time at Cork & Cow to celebrate my birthday. We've been meaning to try this restaurant as we have tried 55 South and our go to steak place is normally Stoney River(SR). They open at 5 pm on Sundays so I made a reservation for when they opened to beat the rush. (It did start to get busy around 6:30-6:40 when we left.) Our server was Wilder: funny, great recommendations, excellent service. Thank you for making our first time a memorable one! Terrific service truly makes a difference. Now to dinner: They started off with the bread in a mini cast iron pan topped with pretty butter. Bread was warm, wish it was piping hot but it was still pretty good. On Sundays bottles of wine are 1/2 price, if it's over $100 you get $50 off the bottle. However tonight we just stuck with sweet tea. We started off with crab stuffed shrimp. Pretty yummy and a great start off to the meal. It was sitting on top of like a cowboy caviar (black eyed peas, andouille sausage), wish it came with more than 2 shrimp but none the less it was a good start. (My honey said the whiskey shrimp at SR is still the best appetizer and the spinach dip at J Alexanders is a close second.) We look forward to trying the other appetizers during future visits. We were a bit confused on the difference between the ribeye and the tomahawk but per Wilder's, we found out the tomahawk comes already sliced. (There's a picture of one in the yelp pictures but I'll be posting pictures of our whole meal in case you'd like to see the ribeyes along with the other things we ordered.) They had 2 specials but we decided on 2 bone in ribeye since that's what we get at Stoney River and though I usually prefer a Filet Mignon, I didn't want our 2 puppies fighting over the bone. Anyhow steaks come with their house potatoes topped with housemade chimichurri sauce. They were EXCELLENT. My honey is a die hard SR fan and he said the steak here was BETTER. He finished the whole thing and it was huge! After reading the reviews we also got a side of their Mac and cheese. Now I'm not a Mac and cheese fan... actually I usually try to order something other than Mac and cheese if there are other options. When Wilder brought it out he said be careful with the cauldron of doom for the next few minutes since it was extremely hot (Which of course made me giggle and idk why but food served in cute little things just taste better) But let me tell you... this is the best Mac and cheese I've ever had. Honestly I would go there again and order just this. What a terrific surprise! So much good food and tons of leftovers for meal #2! (Unless your like my honey and eat it all lol) However to round out a terrific meal we figured we would finish off with dessert to get the full experience. Now we love the carrot cake at SR so I wanted to try it here, but we hit a dilemma... their carrot cake is topped off with sour cream ice cream. My honey hates sour cream so we asked Wilder and he said it's tangy but you can't really taste the sour cream. I suggested to my honey to get the ice cream on the side but Wilder said it comes as a parfait cake in a paper cup (he said this with a few choice words that made it hilarious but I'm not gonna put it on here because I don't want him to get in trouble, but again totally added to the experience) so we decided to share an order. Now I took the first bite as the guinea pig and it was tangy but surprisingly delicious. My honey took a bite and said it was really good. I took 2 bites and started writing this review and then the honey was like you better eat some before it's all gone lol. This was our first great dining experience for awhile. We've been to SR a few times recently but after our favorite server left, the service there has sucked and for us, service really makes a big difference to our dining experience, not just the food and the ambiance. We will definitely be back. By the way the other people that were there seemed to also be getting great service from the other servers. As a young couple I hate going to nice restaurants and not being treated well because maybe they don't think we'll tip as well. It was a beautiful restaurant. An expensive steak house for a date night. The Caesar salad was awful. Literally awful. $9 for a bunch of romaine lettuce tops (the part that's usually the first to brown and is not crisp) and a few of these very chewy baked cheese crumbs and sardines. The dressing was bad. My husband and I both ordered one and neither of us ate more than 15% of them. Probably should have been offered a refund. The steak- it was a beautiful steak ruined by a smoked crust. If you're spending $55-150 on a steak, you don't necessarily want it to be crusted in an extraordinarily strong flavor that totally overtakes the taste of the beautiful steak. Maybe this would have been interesting in a novelty restaurant with more inexpensive steak. It's what you would do to drown out the inexpensive or frozen beef. The two little fried potatoes that accompanied the steak were delicious as was the strawberry shortcake with sour cream ice cream. We could have ordered those and been a lot happier with our meal and the price we paid for it. I took the steak home with the thought that I could use it to make teriyaki steak tacos and the teriyaki would drown out the smoke flavor. I ended up throwing out the entire thing. We didn't eat our salads, I didn't eat my steak. I thought maybe the server would have offered some kind of recognition of that fact with a credit for an appetizer next time, free dessert, remove the salads from the bill, anything. We ended up spending about $150 for dinner for two without any alcoholic drinks. I was just really disappointed that my VERY RARE expensive dinner out ended up being this one. read more

For me C&C is the best restaurant in Franklin. I really appreciated that there was lamb & veal dishes on the menu, so I had the lamb app & veal entree. Both proteins were prepared excellently. The lamb chops came with a chimichurri that was flavorful but didn't necessarily pair ideally for me, but the pepper jelly & fried onions were great. The veal rack came with a big serving of Israeli couscous (the big pearls) that was great but the olive component dominated the rest of the flavors (for me) so missed a little balance. Zack is the best bartender I have met so far. I am sure the other one is good there, but this was my first time. The NY Strip was very good but very over priced. I didn't get the "aged" taste as much, but it was still a nice cut will limited marbling and such. I thought this plate should have been a $28-$35 range...not $45. It was still good though. The potatoes and butter on the plate was good. I wish there were one more potato (as two of those were not enough. The Bread and Butter they bring to the table in the pan is excellent. Very yummy. The wine selection was very good but I thought over priced also. Go on Sunday evenings when the bottles are half off. It is closer to the cost that you can get out there online for the same bottles like wine.com or winechateau.com, etc. You do go there for the ambiance, servers, etc. If you are a stickler for price, this place isn't for you. Good food and a weird location. It's stuck in between a fantastic bakery that is always slammed and a nice restaurant with a really good location on Main Street - all in the same building. Once you are in its elegant, well appointed and they have lovely place settings. I would say that the food is on par with Morton's or Ruth Christ. Absolutely amazing! From the bread to the drinks. My boyfriend and I went there last night for date night and were blown away. They brought out the bread which was tender, buttery, garlicky and perfect. The drinks were small but powerful. We went there for a date night a few weeks back and the steak was just fair (for the price it should be out of this world). The mac and cheese was dry and the side dishes small. My husband and I literally drove from New Jersey to Tennessee just for a steak dinner at this restaurant. The steaks are cooked perfectly. The sides are delicious. The dessert is to die for. Everything is so fresh, beautiful and amazing. We've been here a handful of times and really enjoy sitting at the bar because the experience of ordering cocktails is part of the pleasure of this place. The bartender - or I should call him mixologist - Zachary was truly an artist. He made anything we asked for and gave us a little lesson in the spirits for each drink. They make all their own syrups and infusions, which makes for some incredible cocktails. If you like cocktails, it's worth a trip to the bar. It's tough to visit another restaurant after this one where they're not even sure what goes into a Mojito and the lime juice comes out of a squeeze bottle. A few things I've had that are amazing: Filet Mignon, cooked to my exact specifications. Lobster tail, tender and succulent. Macaroni and cheese, gooey and delicious. We are big fans of Cork & Cow and prefer staying local in Franklin versus going to the chain steak houses in Nashville. On Saturday, my wife and I visited Cork & Cow for our Christmas dinner. I ordered the bone-in-fillet and she ordered the regular fillet. The cut and cook temperature were perfect. Also, as always, the service was top notch. We have dined here about 4-times and usually order the same cut of beef. During this visit, were slightly disappointed as we noticed the steaks had a heavier salt taste than previous visits. Good dinner here this past weekend. Our first time in. Had to wait a little bit past our reservation time for the folks at our table to clear out. The area outside the restaurant where we waited left a bit to be desired. There were only a couple tall stools on which to wait and the lobby was littered with plastic and leaves on the floor. It came on top of some Parmesan polenta with asparagus. Sadly it was very oversalted. It would have been perfect if it had about half as much salt.
