This is the Corner Bistro referenced in How I Met Your Mother when Marshall is in search of the best burger in NYC. This is the reason we came here. On a Monday night we were immediately seated. We were expecting it to be more of a diner, but it definitely seems to be a local watering hole in a neighborhood of the city that makes you feel at home. Especially around the holidays. The service was a little slow as far as drinks go and our server inattentive. We came here for the burger, though. We were not disappointed. The burger was very thick and juicy. Each bite was a different beefy goodness. If you're into thickness, this is your burger joint. Fries were just average, nothing to write home about. Came for Valentine's Day with some girl friends. Def a tight squeeze in there, but a cozy little pub nonetheless. I can see how this is an iconic staple in the neighborhood. It's cash only and the menu is only on the wall and a bit hard to find so I'd research beforehand because it felt expected that you know what you want. Simple, no frills and definitely a decent burger but not nearly close to my favorite in the city. $10-$13 bucks without fries which is fine but for it being a no frills place, but just know it's $15-20 for a burger and fries on paper plates. My favorite pub in LIC! I'm obsessed. They have such good, jumbo wings along with the best tater tots with chili ontop, my mouth is watering while i speak. It's all at such a cheap price. I can't wait to try anything else on the menu. My date ordered the chicken fingers which didn't look that great, but what a lame thing to order with everything else they have. The people are really friendly. And it's literally on the corner of vernon and another street. My favourite burger joint in all of Manhattan! So many memories of super late nights and delicious burgers. The entire set up and dining experience is very straight forward. I have heard so many good things about this place, I was super excited to go. People say this isn't necessarily the best burger in NY but Corner Bistro is still an important part of New York's burger experience. Unfortunately, Corner Bistro was a huge let down. The burger wasn't bad, don't get me wrong, but it wasn't great either. It was a fine burger. Also, I am 90% sure the fries are cooked in bacon fat. This is completely fine, they were super yummy, but I feel like consumers should be warned? The service was actually terrible. The only positive behind the service was that we were seated right away. That's all. Our waiter was rude and forgetful. You know those restaurants that have intentionally rude service? The bistro burger is a honking beef burger with a slab of tomato, thickly sliced raw onion, lettuce and melty american cheese on a burger bun. This no-frills burger comes on a plastic plate. Pints are super cheap too. I came with a friend and sat in the back dining area. Its a bit cramped but we had burgers and fries and drinks- it was great. This place is CASH ONLY but there is an ATM in the front. The ATM was down, of course, but there is smoke shop around the corner with an ATM that works just fine. It's got a great old-school, woody bar vibe to compliment the tiny dining area in the back. Unfortunately, it's not the amazing "deal" it used to be. I first went a decade ago (yikes), and prices have more than doubled since then. For the classic Bistro Burger (burger with LT, cheese, and bacon), it was about $6 in 2008, $9.75 in 2015, and now $12.75 (or more, haven't been in few months). A gem times 10 in the village of west serving up a New York stable, McSorley's light and dark ale. As per normal village of west rules, no reservations so be prepared to hang out and treat yourself to a cold libation. Heads up also, this is a straight cash homie joint. The main attraction was that it wasn't super packed with people, which wasn't the case with the other 2 places we went to over by W4th. They were mobbed with people leading us to walk over to this little spot, which ended up being fortunate. For all its legendary burger write-ups and the How I Met Your Mother mention, I really expected to walk into a crammed $hit-$how of a tavern and eat standing up, like a horse, the cow fat dripping off my lips onto some girl's dress while a group of bros shoved me aside obliviously. No such misfortune befell us--Corner Bistro is a friendly neighborhood bar and grill, about medium-sized. The friendly, bearded bartender quickly took our orders and brought them out even quicker. We were strolling around Sixth when that old burger craving hit me. The Halloween festivities were underway with the little kids walking the block in their costumes. Not really the block to bring your kids trick-or-treating at stores - the block is lined with adult stores. I Yelped on my phone and found the Corner Bistro right away. The place is reminiscent of a dark dive bar with two rooms - bar in the first, more seating in the second. A line creeped through the middle of the place. There was no real order to this chaos. Menu was posted on the wall next to the bar. We were seated on the wooden bench and chairs next to a traveling group of superheroes and parents, opposite the bar. The waiter, a kind old man, took our order quickly. He came back 15 minutes later with our two bistro burgers, fries, and soda. This is where Corner Bistro started losing points in my book quick. The Burger on a paper plate- just like at the annual family BBQ, plain grounded red meat, juicy and perfectly cooked. Pickles, lettuce, tomato, bacon, cheese and a soft bun. Easily could have got them many stars until I bit down. Ouch! If I had a filling, I would have lost it on the pieces of cartilage in the pattie. Hit them TWICE- Very upsetting. I have been here several times and they do one thing - burgers. The burgers are excellent - very fresh and juicy. No seared this or foie gras that, just a really good burger. They serve fries that are also no frills, but are also consistently good. The burgers are under $10 and drinks are pretty cheap too. The interior has an old-school pub feel to it and it gets cramped when it is very busy, but has a great buzz to the place at the same time. The expectations were very high during my visit to Corner Bistro since it is considered by many as one of the city's best for burgers. Ultimately, I was disappointed with the size of the burger as it was a flame broiled patty that could have been devoured by 3 bites with a plate of fries. That doesn't mean it wasn't any good, since it was cleaned off very quickly, almost a little too quickly. For my definition of the "best" it not only has to taste good, but has to be fairly decent in size as well (i.e.. hearty). As a first timer, I am impressed by the burger! My brother did a good job by not overrating the burger for me. Slapped Shake Shack right across the face. The two doesn't even compare! First off, medium rare just how I like ANY meat.
