It's very possible that you've heard the name Corner Bistro even if you're not from New York. If not, it's a place worth noting for... The burgers - outstanding. Juicy and cooked to perfection, they are exactly what you'd expect from a place often touted as the best burger in NYC. I recommend going for the Bistro Burger. The bacon is a nice touch. The beer - cheap! Five of the 9 beers on tap are $2.50/glass. That said, they are not huge glasses, but still a deal. The ambiance - old school. CB is unchanged and authentic. Carve your name into one of the wooden tables, return in 10 years, and unless the place burns down, I'm sure you're name will still be there (and they'll remember you as the jackass who wrote your name on a table). Of course, nobody is perfect. Possibly the only thing I don't love about CB is the fries. They tend to be a bit soggy and nothing to write home about. That said, I get them every time. I was there with a friend on a Friday night, Oct 19. For some reason the bartender Jacob was in a sour mood from the get go and eventually asked us to leave after we ordered two drinks and were chatting. It was 1am and not busy he claimed he needed other people to sit at the bar and asked my friend and I to leave. Very unusual, have never experienced this before in NYC especially on a slow night and late in a mediocre bar. read more

This is place is pretty great. I came for grilled cheese and a beer, and that's exactly what I got. My total was somewhere around ten bucks, which was fine by me, given the location, the nice service, whatever. It was while eating this particular grilled cheese sandwich (to which I added tomatoes, just for kicks) that Philip Seymour Hoffman walked by outside. I could see him from the window. I was so enamored with my sandwich though, that I just let him get away. Burger was alright. I am currently on a burger find but have still yet to find a burger that really blows me away. The one that has come close is PJ Clarke's. This burger was ordered ad a medium rare and it was cooked on the spot. The taste was juicy but lacked the basic savory flavor that normally comes with a good burger. Watching the guy cook burgers when you wait in line explains a lot. There is a lot of shifting but most of all I think he even "smooshed" a couple of the patty's which kind of turned me off a little. A little turned off but I tried it anyways. The fries were slightly overdone; however, crispy fries never hurt anyone. I enjoyed it and Corner Bistro certainly has a place in West Village for a no frills, reasonable price burger. Would recommend if you're willing to look past the service you might get - see below. We had 4 beers and 2 burgers with 2 serving of chips between the two of us - a decent spend. Service was good until it got busy and the manager abruptly said 'you got to go' and kicked us out of the table. We told him we weren't ready and wanted another 2 beers. He didn't care or suggest to us to sit at the bar or stand, which we would've understood. He just wanted us to evict the table without regard for how we felt. The subsequent patrons were similarly shocked - the manager didn't wipe down the table and just asked them to sit. We nevertheless tipped 20% respecting that it was the manager's fault and not the waiter's. But we weren't impressed. Verdict - Good for a decent burger. We came here around 5-ish pm on a Sunday. We were seated very quickly. The place wasn't crowded at all. We were lucky because when we were done, the place was getting crowded. We ordered one bistro burger(medium well), one cheeseburger (well done) & a side order of fries. First of all, they messed up our order after we told the waiter clearly about how we want the meat cooked. Second, yes, the size of the burger is big but the meat is tasteless. As for the fries, it was just decent, nothing special. The food came pretty quickly. Two burgers & a side of fries for about $19, pretty good deal for the size of the burger. I would recommend coming here for a few beers and this burger before you really head out for a night of drinking in New York. All done on a lousy paper plate. And cash only! So if you are not prepared for that, you get the wonderful treat of paying $2.50 for their in-house atm. Food was fine and the person who brought us the food was really sweet, but the guy who was taking our orders/the check made us so uncomfortable that we never want to return. We sit down, and note that there are TEN open tables (we counted) and no one waiting. The guy taking our orders stands there super uncomfortably and says "Hey, it's fine that you're each only getting a little food, but can you not hang around? Try to keep it under 30 minutes". No one was around and as we waited for our food, even more tables opened up for the heated and insulated outside seating where we were (note that inside was packed which was horrifying when we had to go inside to pay because we were surrounded by 20 people with no masks for a couple minutes, so if you do come here and care about your health- sit outside). Just a really uncomfortable experience with him trying to get rid of us right away and his attitude was way off. Note to staff that telling your patrons they should leave ASAP is how you don't get tipped. read more

Wow! A few friends brought me here late one Friday night before going out. Let me just say, this is one of my favorite places to grab a burger before heading in the west village area. The restaurant and bar area are very small but the beer and food are cheap and delicious. I'm talking about $3 bud drafts and I believe $8 for the bistro burger complete with bacon and cheese. We waited about 35 minutes after putting our name on the list but the cheap beers made the wait go by fast. til the pandemic, when i left nyc for an extended time, i was a regular at the bistro for 25 yrs. went in yesterday (7/28/21) with my wife. the prices have been raised about 25%, with only a few customers, which could be pandemic related, but also the price increases. then a kitchen worker/waiter mis-delivered a burger to my wife, never delivered our burgers, then got into a loud disagreement with the bartender because of it. the bartender tried to quieten him down, which did not happen til i got involved. my wife and i simply left. the place has not been the same since the long time owner died a few yrs ago and his descendants took ownership. simply no longer can recommend the place. not the bistro that so many of us enjoyed for so many decades. gg read more

This West Village watering hole should absolutely be rated at least 4 stars, if not only for its burger. Sure it's a divey hole-in-the-wall, a rather dimly-lit, somewhat grimy spot with questionable service, plastic plates, and barstools that have seen their share of wear-and-tear. But, IMO that's all part of the experience in an almost-charming way. There's a tiny entrance on the corner of W. 4th that leads into the relatively small space. There are a few tables scattered around the bar and a high-top near the window where we sat. It's extremely laid back - no suits, no ties, no popped collars, and no Diesel jeans. We ordered our food and drinks at the bar and waited for them to be ready. The beers were cheap and refreshing, as they should be at a place like this. The burger came piled HIGH with onions, lettuce, pickles, tomato, cheese, and BACON atop a very thick patty served between two regrettably-un-toasted buns. You'll definitely have to cut this baby in half and "flatten it out" a bit, as our server told us. When you bite in, though, I promise you'll be pleased. Mine was cooked to a perfect medium rare with a pink center and juices oozing out of the hefty piece of ground beef. There are no frills here. It's not dry-aged ribeye, it's not a mix of short rib and brisket, it's regular ole' ground beef. But, it's elegant in its simplicity. Actually, it's not elegant. It's just damn good. If you've read my other reviews you know that I would consider selling my yet-to-be-conceived first child for a burger at Emily or Minetta Tavern. Corner Bistro is not exactly on that level. It's a little more along the lines of a PJ Clarke's, I'd say. For the dollar ($10.75), this is certainly one of the better burgers you'll find. Overall, this place is cheap and marked $ appropriately. It's no gourmet experience, and it's no first date spot, but it's a solid 4-star restaurant with cheap, cold beer and cheap, juicy burgers. read more

Love this place! My boyfriend has mentioned it to me a million times (every time I say I want to go to J.G Melon) We were wandering around looking for a place to eat yesterday and turned the corner to see this place. Really quaint, small menu, quick service. I had a bistro burger, which has bacon on it, instead of plain cheese. The bacon was perfectly crispy and so delicious. The burger comes with lettuce, tomato and onion - lots of onion! Absolutely delicious, pretty much everything you could want in a burger. The fries are crispy and hot, and come in the perfect portion for sharing. The price of the burger definitely went up as I saw old yelp photos of the menu it was below $10 but I went today and it was $12. The burger was definitely good, you'll never expect that much meat on a burger.
