After King of Thai closed (heartbreaking) I had to find a new Thai restaurant in my area. I was excited to find Corner Thai Kitchen so nearby. Review as follows: 1. Staff: 5/5. The staff here is very friendly and they are efficient with to-go orders. 2: Ambiance: 4/5. I do not usually dine in here, but the inside is very nice and clean. 3: Food: 3/5. Definitely not the best I have had, but not a bad option at all for a quick Thai fix. I love their tom kha soup, their fried rice, yellow curry and pad see ew. However, I did have a bad experience once with finding a large amount of egg shell throughout my pad thai, which was gross and made the dish inedible. It's not really in a "corner" but rather an end suite of the Friars Village Shopping Center in Grantville. Parking was plentiful in the shared lot while the seating inside was limited to about half a dozen booths/tables. A couple of parties were dining when I arrived to order some food to go. The menu offerings were typical for a Thai eatery. If anything the number of items was extensive for such a small kitchen. My choices were from the Chef Specials category of which there were a dozen entrees. The first was the Thai Mango Chicken which consisted of crispy chicken pieces mixed with bell peppers, fresh mango chunks, cashews, and onions. This version had less sauce than what I have tried elsewhere so the mango flavor was not as intense. The second was the Hawaiian Fried Rice which had stir-fried shrimp and chicken, pineapples, onions, eggs, peas, carrots, cashews, and yellow curry powder. The last ingredient was interesting because I don't associate curry with 'Hawaiian' food. I liked the predecessor business (Ra-ka-de-ka) that was here. The food now is slightly better to the point that I gave a 3.5 star rating for my experience at The Corner Thai Kitchen. read more

Ordered a curry dish and a Chicken Pad Thai. Both dishes were average in taste, not great but ok. Would order them again but this place won't be my "go to". Portions were small for the price in my opinion and I left hungry. About 2/3 size I'm used to most places serving. Sort of lunch portion at dinner. Service was 5/10. One waitress is friendly and the other is rushed and borderline gruff for no apparent reason. She was same to all tables in our area. Drops dishes and runs and not pleasant if you request anything. Did not receive any serving utensils for shared dishes and only receive one low quality fork each, no knife or spoon or stix. Seating was cramped in a front booth by front door so got blast of cold fresh air every time customer came in/out. Parking: ample parking and in front of restaurant Service: they are friendly, but a bit too attentive. I men's, every 10 minutes. I prefer one follow up and then maybe wait for the eye contact. Or maybe it's just me. Food. It was a late lunch for me so I only ordered egg roll. Came in 5 pieces, nothing special. It was okay. Wrapper was flaky and decent amount of veggies. This place is new so figured we would give it a shot. Much better than the place that was here right before this one and about equally as good as ra ka de ka was. I'll be a regular here. The spring rolls although beautifully presented weren't my favorite. It was kind of hard to eat but it was delicious. With the lettuce overflowing out the top was hard to dip in the peanut sauce. I probably wouldn't get these again. The Tom kha soup was very delicious and flavorful. Also loved the spicy udon noodles. Beware!! These were pretty spicy and I love spice so if you don't be warned. I did add a little more chili oil to mine but not near as much as I usually have to add. Pretty good! I got the pad Thai at a level 6 spice with shrimp. The shrimp were large and cooked well and the portion was sizable! The only disappointing part was that the pad Thai itself had almost no spice, so I'm not sure if there was confusion over the spice request or if they are extremely light with their spice. The flavor overall was pretty good and so was the service. I would give it another try to see if the spice problem was just a fluke. read more

I also heard good reviews from Neighbors and from yelp about this restaurant. I ordered a large wonton soup wonton soup which had a delicious broth and super large wontons, plump with tasty pork filling. There were also vegetables in the soup. In addition I ordered chicken pad Thai. It was pretty tasty, but kind of bland. I needed to add Sriracha to spice it up a bit. In addition, they didn't offer limes, which I am accustomed to adding to the dish. It was pretty busy and service was a bit slow. It took longer for my food to be ready then their estimate. Here's the review and our experience. It's mostly a 2 or 3 for service except they do knock it out of the park with some of their flavors, even if 2 out of 4 dishes for individuals eating arrive late. Overall, flavor wise we gave it a 7 or 8 out of 10. When I traveled the globe training at Michelin Star Restaurants, the one thing I remember about Bangkok and their Michelin Star Restaurant called The Blue Elephant is: The number one ingredient in Thai Food is ....? Can you guess? Sugar. And this restaurant nails that flavor more than other's I've tried. Yes my friend. That's why Thai Food is always so yummy. For this restaurant, if your body does not process MSG like most of us, ask them for no MSG. (MSG tricks the tastebuds into greater satisfaction, so you eat more and like it more. Unfortunately, it's a chemical that your body does not process). For me? MSG keeps me from sleeping well and sometimes even from falling asleep for hours. So I avoid it. When she finally gets it, Sherry likes her Red Curry. She says "there are more vegetables than expected. And it's very, very good". Steve enjoys the Buddah's Feast. "Lots of great vegetables" he says. Susan likes the 3 Fried Fish. "Next time, I want to try the Buddah's Feast with the fried tofu". And I have their BBQ Chicken. Nothing to write home about until you add the sauce they give you on the side. Nice flavor. And they give you an abundance of Chicken. I took half of mine home and ate it for lunch the next day, in addition to leftovers from the Large Wonton Soup I ordered. Served with a center flame. Good presentation.Their wontons are nice, too. And ..... why do we like that broth? Their touch of sugar! If you are in the neighborhood, it's a good local place to try. Driving an hour to get their during rush hour? Not so much. Plan to share because in our case, Sheri did not get her Red Curry until the meal was almost done. So she took it to go. And no, they didn't comp it. Go with no expectations, try the dishes we like and if it's local to you, it is way better than the restaurants that surround it, in that neighborhood. A friend and I stopped in to try this restaurant and I ordered Crying Tiger, a fav of mine. Two photos from other diners on Yelp who had also ordered the dish showed slices of rare sliced steak on a white dinner platter surrounded by vegetables. First a white dinner plate was delivered to me and then a few minutes later a sizzling fajitas-like metal plate in wood was brought out with sizzling and still COOKING slices of rare meat and veggies. By the time I could get the food off the hot plate and onto the white dinner plate, the meat had completely overcooked into well-done, tough, unpleasant pieces which were tough to cut and chew. The plate also had pineapple included, which wasn't mentioned. Midway through our meal the server came back and I complained. She offered something new but it was too late and I declined. I did suggest that she should share my story with the kitchen and I, if I ever go back and decide to try Crying Tiger again, I will ask that the dish just be plated onto a regular plate without the hot plate which served absolutely no purpose at all except to ruin the dish. read more

Came here with two friends. The restaurant decor is so cute. There's a little barrel pond with fish outside. We were seated quickly. The server was extremely attentive, checking in at appropriate times and offering anything else we needed. We got beer and the Thai tea. They came in these cool barrel glasses that were refrigerated. We ordered the cheesy crab wontons. Usually wontons have more of the outer part than the cheesy crab, but not here. Lots of filling! We all ordered the Pad See Ew. I'm really sad I only have pictures from one of my visit because I've been here twice so just listen when I say trust me bro. This place is SO good. I ordered the basics the first time around including tofu pad thai, tom kha, and som tum. I wanted to try the curry puffs but unfortunately they were sold out that night. Oh well, my life is meaningless anyways. Moving on, the som tum was perfectly spicy and flavorful. I ordered medium spicy thinking it would be okay and it did leave a bit to be desired for me, but I also love spicy food so ignore that part if you're not a heat fiend. It's served with a large chunk of cabbage which I'm never really sure if you're supposed to eat or not, so I don't. The tom kha is always a favorite, and I love the coconut milk creaminess to the savory chicken lemongrass broth. I am drooling just typing this. This serving was individual and I'm glad it was because if I had ordered the large I couldn't eat anything else. The pad thai was excellent, it was missing the lime the first time but I still survived. Now, the second time I came I ordered the curry puffs and let me tell you, I understand why they sell out and why they were so highly recommended to me. They were delicious and airy curry bites with a sweet chili sauce on the side. I tried the tom yum this time and it was good but still pales in comparison to the tom kha. Parking as per usual in San Diego, sucks. This lot gets crazy busy at nights and on weekends as there as many many restaurants in the same plaza. The actual restaurant itself is easy to find as it's on the corner (heyo) with plenty of indoor and outdoor seating.
