This is my second review of this establishment and sadly had to take stars away. The food is probably the best there is on tunnel road but the fact on my most recent visit management and staff found it okay and permitted some guy located right near the front door so the entire restaurant heard his sermon/sales pitch intended for two tables... the second on the other side of the main pathway through the dining room. It was half a sales pitch trying to get 8-12 men to invest in some camp for kids But it was majority a sermon just to hear himself speak. He used a sermon voice def not his inside or restaurant voice. I could here him outside as I approached the first set of doors and once inside his voice just bellowed throughout the already noisy dining room. The fact the staff and management felt it was okay to expect paying customers to ensure this is disrespectful to all other diners, ridiculous and unprofessional and what is even more unprofessional they did not ask him to respect the other patrons was not one person in that building had the common sense to put a group of that size in the back of the dining room with 2-3 tables slid together like every other restaurant in America does with a group. In a five minute period of time I saw 3 different parties enter, see and hear that fool, and turn and walk out and that was just in a small five minute window I was paying attention to the door and reaction of the entering customers. The food is decent but it's not worth enduring whatever you have to endure in order to dine here because on past visits both parking lots have been brimming with homeless people and while having lunch one day right outside the window we had to watch EMT tending to a barefooted homeless person who had cut his feet up and bleeding everywhere. If this is what they know they obviously have consistently outside in the parking lots the establishment needs to take measures by way of blinds or drapes or something to permit patrons to dine in peace inside or from the outside environment. read more

Excellent good quality . Just had a wonderful dinner with Kimberly S at the bar and received excellent service ! Chicken gyro platter is so generous and 4$ glasses of wine. Nice! Fun to watch all the food come out ... nice improvements after a long renovation. People may complain prices went up but seriously?!!! They went up about 2$ and totally worth it!! We visited the newly remolded restaurant on a Sunday afternoon and the volume was to be expected. However, the wait of 45 minutes for our food was unacceptable. Furthermore, my soup and salad were wrong. Both. Wrong. The soup I ordered ended up being sold out by the time we actually got our food. The salad was terrible. Nothing in there is worth the wait. While we were greeted warmly at the door, once we were seated a FULL 10-15 minutes passed and we were never greeted by a server. There were other tables in our area that were seated after us that were warmly greeted and their drink order taken. Once I knew we'd been overlooked we left and I will never be back. The new Cornerstone is awesome!! Really pretty on the inside. We visited on a weekday around 10am and it wasn't very busy, our food came right out and was so tasty. Huge heaping helpings!! I was excited to try this place after reading review, but was disappointed. The breakfast menu had a lot of offerings. I ordered the huevos rancheros and my husband got the eggs Benedict. The place was busy and the food took about 30-35 minutes to come out. And when it finally did come the food was cold or lukewarm. The huevos rancheros were tasteless and the eggs Benedict was ok. This place is by far the best place we ate out here near East Asheville and Swannanoa. The chili was delicious and perfect for the cool fall night. My husband had the shrimp and grits and was super impressed. Fries are crispy and tasty, chopped steak was wonderful. We came back a second night for dinner because it was sooo good. This place has always been a favorite, and after the incredible remodel, remains one. Eggs Benedict are served on a biscuit (thank you Baby Jesus) with crispy home fries or grits. Hubby had the Reuben with Sweet Potato fries and loved it. There is now a kitchen bar seating area that is first come, first serve. Breakfast is served until 4pm (might just be a Sunday thing). Not sure how I would classify Cornerstone. Maybe a diner on steroids? A huge menu with breakfast served most of the day or at least through lunch. Massive portions, but that is not the headline. The food is really good and I am not sure if the breakfast, lunch or dinner menu is the star. You wont be disappointed with anything you order - at least I haven't. It's on the "other side" of the tunnel, so it is a little off the beaten path from the downtown restaurants, but better food without the parking hassle. If you go for breakfast/brunch on a weekend expect to wait. If you are just a single/couple you can sit at the bar without waiting if there are seats available. One of the tastiest home made Bloody Marys you will find - almost a meal in and of itself. Get the house chips with whatever you order. I couldn't write a review without mentioning the staff. I work downtown and eat out probably 4 or 5 days a week for lunch. You will not find a better staff anywhere. Seriously, one of the best run restaurants in all of Asheville. Consistently good food with consistently good service. Cant say enough about the people there. Do yourself a favor and stop by if you are in the area. read more

We just dined here tonight 30 min prior to closing and it was amazing! My wife had the spaghetti with meat sauce and it was mouth watering. My daughter had the Carolina burger and she said it was awesome, especially what they did with the slaw. I had the shrimp and grits and they were "just right". We went to Asheville for a vacation and had Cornerstone for dinner one night and breakfast a different day. The food is great, the prices are reasonable, and the service was good. Dinner was yum but the breakfast was amazing! I got the strawberry brioche French toast and a side of home style potatoes and they were sooooo good. Their orange juice is made in house; you can see them making it behind the bar. It's delicious and tastes fresh! Bonus, we got sat right in front of the fireplace so the experience was even better! I'd definitely recommend this place to anyone visiting the area. It looks like it can get pretty busy so going at off times would be ideal...or going before you've reached hangry status ;). read more

A nice place from the inside. The breakfast is pretty good you really get a lot for your money except for when it comes to the Cheese Manicotti with Alfredo Sauce. It tasted very blend and supper small portion for the price, might not consider getting any pasta at this restaurant. Otherwise it's a pretty good restaurant for breakfast. read more

Found a wonderful place at the recommendation of a local. We ordered fried cheese curds as an appetizer which were excellent. The main courses ranged from shrimp and grits, through filet and lamb shank, and an avocado bacon chipotle hamburger. The portions were very generous and take home boxes were asked for. The meal was topped off with blackberry cobbler - just one word for it - delicious! Well worth coming back to this Cornerstone when in Asheville. read more

Here on vacation and decided to try out this restaurant. I had the meatloaf and mashed potatoes with brown gravy which was delicious. My partner had the full slab of ribs and baked potato. Everything was wonderful including the very professional service. Just be warned to arrive hungry because they serve you a healthy portion of food. Based on reviews I was excited to give this place a try! Food was just okay. Very standard flavor to the dishes. Service was great. Host had a bad attitude coming in, and also waited for me outside of the bathroom stall I was in to clean it? I ordered takeout and was sooo disappointed in all the food! I've been there twice before and everything was very good. First of all I ordered the gyro platter and asked for fries with it instead of Greek salad since I was ordering a big salad anyway, was told sure, no problem. They didn't tell me there was an upcharge of almost 4 dollars for a big container of fries which I didn't want plus they gave me the salad with the platter anyway. To the food, I ordered the fried chicken salad. Iceberg lettuce,and there was a lot of it, was very wet and soggy which ruined the whole salad. Tomatoes were way overipe and mushy.. Fried chicken was tasteless, no salt or seasoning, overcooked and very dry. Gyro meat had a weird texture and taste, just wasn't good and kind of upset my stomach after I ate it. Tzadziki sauce was the only thing I really liked. The one piece of pita bread was not fresh. I spent $30.00 on takeout for a meal I would have surely taken back had I been dining in. Clean and some decent sides. Food for the most part is terrible. The Kalabash? Chicken is just flavorless chicken strips. Trout was ok. And the shrimp with crab stuffing may be the worst thing I have ordered in a long time. Tiny tiger shrimp way over cooked with a stuffing sort of like mushy corn bread literally no crab and flavored heavily with Lemon Pepper. Amateur Hour. Fried zucchini not bad. This restaurant is very nice. Fireplaces, stone, glass hardwood floors. But the food is good. Not great but good. Went for breakfast and was satisfied. The portions were large. I got a western omelette. It was good. Could have used more cheese and all western omelette stuffings but.... ; the prices are average. Definitely not expensive. I'm currently eating my second meal from Cornerstone this week as I write this review. We're from Wilmington, but have been vacationing in Asheville this week. On our way in, we drove past this restaurant and just by the look of it I knew we had to try it out. Unfortunately we've been exhausted each time and opted to have it delivered through Postmates. First off, the fastest and most problem free delivery we've had while being in Asheville. Second, the food is stellar and portion sizes are enormous. Some of the food I will say may need a little more seasoning (I'm sorry!) but it's seriously good food. Thank you, Cornerstone, for your amazing food to add to our amazing trip. Cornerstone, as far as I know, is a mainstay for Tunnel Rd. You get the distinct feeling that it has been there for a long time, and everyone in town knows where it is. We've been twice now. Once for dinner, and once for breakfast, and both were like a nice local version of your typical Perkins, Village Inn-style diner. On the breakfast side, it's solid. Both the french toast that my wife ordered and my typical breakfast place (pancake, eggs, sausage) were tasty. My pancake was a little more rubbery than most people are used to, but I quite enjoyed it. For dinner, from what I can remember (this was a while back), it was delicious. I believe I got a Greek lasagna sort of thing with garlic bread. The service is outstanding. Every last person we encounter there is friendly and good at their job. It's one of those places that we seldom think to go, and then immediately wonder why. read more

My husband didn't want to do the continental breakfast at the hotel so we came here. What a mistake! I am not that picky on a trip - I can eat a McMuffin while flying down the highway happily. The ingredients, juices, bread - everything seemed to be institutional quality. Cranberry juice was red but no real discernible tart cranberry juice. The sausage patties were thin greasy pieces of brown. I suppose the egg was okay. If you are into white bread and American cheese and really liked the food in your High School cafeteria, this is your breakfast place.
