My husband and I have been to Cornerstone four or five times now and each time before this, the food has been delicious! This time, we placed an online order and we both ordered burgers that come with bacon. One breakfast burger and one chipotle avocado burger. Neither burger had bacon and the chipotle avocado burger didn't have any chipotle on it. The onion rings I got as my side were stale and under seasoned and the patties on both burgers were also under seasoned. When I called to let them know what happened, I was told that they weren't sure who made the order then the lady who answered the phone said bye and hung up. I'm not sure who I spoke to as I wasn't able to get a name. We love the food normally, and the service is normally good, but my husband and I were pretty disappointed about how the food turned out and how I was kind of brushed off when I tried calling to tell them there had been a mistake. read more

Not my favorite place. When we asked to be seated at a table in a warmer spot the hostess gave us a dirty look. Bizarre as half the tables were empty. My Greek omelet was terrible, I think they used fake eggs ...but everyone liked their pancakes. read more

Had high hopes for this recently opened local eatery. Interior was more bland than the food and the overall experience was that of an elevated Denny's. The menu offers a great variety but the kitchen failed at meeting their potential. I ordered the crab cake eggs Benedict. The eggs were over cooked and thus not runny, and the hollandaise was used sparingly so the biscuit stayed dry as did the crab cakes. Topping off the lackluster experience the entire meal was served cool as though it had waited to long for service. read more

Just stopping over in Asheville for the night; set out for Olive Garden and found this place and thought I'd try a non-chain. Great service and reasonable prices. The raspberry vinaigrette dressing was really good; ordered the filet and it was about as perfect "medium" as you could get; tender, excellent flavor. Side of fried zucchini was really good also. Really glad I stopped here instead of OG! If I'm ever here again I'll definitely come back. read more

I have lived in Asheville basically all my life and I never came here until now. My friend had only been here for breakfast and he loves it so we decided to try lunch here. Our waiter was nice enough to bring some variety of hot sauces when he saw us checking out the ones on the table. One of them was a reaper sauce and even though extremely hot, the flavor was really good! I put a couple drops on my black bean burger because it was mostly bland and just a lump of mush. I did get it without the bun but overall it just wasn't a good patty. The homemade chips that came with was really good though. My friend loved his onion rings and philly cheese steak. My options were limited in the vegan department so I don't find myself returning here. read more

My wife and I ate here on a Saturday night and they were moderately busy. We were guided to our table upon meeting the hostess. The menu is pretty wild and full of all sorts of dishes from Italian to American cuisine. I was pretty skeptic because typically when a restaurant had a variety of different dishes all seem to be mediocre at best. I went with the cornerstone burger which was a bbq burger with a huge onion ring, bacon and bbq sauce on top of two juicy perfectly cooked beef patties. They put this on a warm brioche bun which is key. This burger was amazing !! My wife got the blackened chicken salad and she loved it as well. This place doesn't skimp on portions. She got four grilled chicken tenders on top a huge bed of lettuce. They added crisp cucumbers, red juicy tomatoes and shaved carrots and onions. Very good salad and very generous portions of ranch dressing. Service was outstanding and staff was very friendly and quick to serve us. All around this place hit a home run and we were very satisfied. read more

I met my family there yesterday for breakfast and was completely disappointed with the hostess Theresa and the manager. One of my family members arrived early and got a table for six. There were 7 of us when we all arrived. We asked Theresa for an extra chair. She acted completely irritated and overwhelmed that we needed to be accommodated. The restaurant was not busy at all and there was plenty of room. The manager was rude and they offered us two separate tables on opposite sides of the room. We couldn't even sit together! The situation could have been managed differently with kindness. We live 630 miles away from each other! The attitudes of Theresa and the manager were completely unacceptable. Luckily our server Mindy was wonderful! read more

Wish I could give negative stars!!!! We were traveling through Asheville looking for a place to grab some homemade food and a steak. Our first opinion was booked so we tried this place not knowing any better I thought I would have a glass of wine with my steak, good thing I got a sample, it was pure vinegar. My party thought I was the crazy one cause I ordered a steak in what was clearly a diner, turns out mine was the only edible meal at the table- it sucked for a steak but it was consumable. It was supposed to be a filet ( I know I should have known better) it came pieced together in 6 sections like the cheap crap you find in the vacuum packs at Walmart. My son ordered what was supposed to be a hand breaded chicken fried steak-it was straight from Sysco frozen foods. My daughter ordered a hamburger medium ( should be safe diner food, right????) wrong it was raw!!!! Hubby ordered the French Dip, he's usually easy to please, He couldn't even finish 1/4 of it! Thank goodness they had fries. Before I knew how terribly everyone's food was I insisted they not charge us for the chicken fry. When the manager came over she wanted to bring us different food, we said forget it everything was terrible! They took the chicken fry off the ticket and a mere $72 later we were free from this hell hole!!! Don't be fooled by the local reviews as we were, this place SUCkS! Also there was black mold in the ceiling by the vent in the ladies room and the floor was so slick with grease we slid half the was to the bathroom! Here's praying for no food poisoning! My fiancé and I live in Durham and wanted to see Asheville so we went for a few days. We wanted a local place to eat at and the Cornerstone restaurant was near our hotel and the pictures looked good so we decided to try it. We absolutely LOVED this place! We got the fried mushrooms and calamari I start with. Sooo delicious and sooo much food on one plate! For our dinners I got the fish and chips and the fiancé got chicken parm. There was so much food and it was all fantastic! Our waitress Hannah was very nice. And the price was very reasonable. We will definitely be back to eat here whenever we visit Asheville! read more

I dont think I've ever written a review for a restaurant before, but I had to create a yelp account just for this. Me, my husband, my sister & her boyfriend all came to NC from NY for a funeral. We decided to grab a bite to eat at this "restaurant" mainly because it had nice curb appeal. Well, that's the ONLY thing nice about this place. We were sat at a table in the back of the front side of the store, the table was right next to a door & right in front of the kiosk for the waitresses/waiters, which also had a couple full drink pitchers with cleaning supplies less an a foot away from the pitchers. The rags that we're on the bottles of cleaner we're basically hanging into the pitchers. We asked to switch to a booth, mainly because we were freezing, even though there was a fireplace 10 feet away from us, which was off. We we're denied the switch, but that's whatever. The waiters name was "Jeremy". He was snobby, short with us & acted like he didn't even want to be helping us. It took quite a while each time to get our drinks. Our food came out pretty fast but man, it was probably the worst food I have ever received at a restaurant. The gravy was absolutely atrocious, the rice tasted like mold, the onion rings were undercooked & bland. Everything was unseasoned. My husband's sandwich was the only thing with flavor, but he never received his side (which they tried charging us for). We we're just trying to find somewhere new to eat & have a good time after a hard day. We we're extremely disappointed. We already steered one group of people we ran into at our hotel away, thankfully. DO BETTER. read more

The restaurant is beautiful! They have fresh squeezed OJ which is delicious! The staff is very friendly and helpful! They practice all the COVID-19 safety regulations. When we asked for Strawberry jelly they brought us little containers of real jelly. The coffee is a bit stronger than I like it but i like mine mild. So if you like it on the stronger side you will be happy. Overall everything was excellent. read more

We got seated fairly quickly so that was a pleasant surprise, but then had to wait at least 20 minutes for our server to offer drinks, even though she had been standing at a table close to us and chatting for at least 10 minutes. The god want great, slightly overdone burger and the spaghetti didn't have enough sauce to flavor it, but we tried to be understanding with the covid situation. The last frustration was that we had to ask for the check after we had been done eating for almost a half hour and only then were able to ask another waitress because ours had vanished for some time. If you are looking for a Denny's with a bath fitter makeover then look no further. This place has a real identity crisis and the feeling inside made me think it could shut its doors for good at any moment. Now I'm not saying it would be a bad thing if they did, this was just ok food....nothing special and burger patties that were over cooked. This place screams " retirees stop here on your way to Florida" but outside of that, this is far from Asheville fare that one would expect from this culinary city. read more

This gets really good reviews and I am not sure why. Perhaps we ordered the wrong things. Servings were pretty generous. But Stay away from the steak section of the menu. A lot of fat and very tough meat. My teenage son loves streak. First time I did not see him finish his steak. The mac and cheese was basically just elbow noodles. Serving staff brought the beer we ordered at the start well after we were served our dinner. Had to asked to multiple times for salt. Even after we explained why the meal was bad, there was no effort to make things right. Go to one of the chain restaurants in the area. read more

This restaurant is our go to restaurant when we want a home cooked dinner that not only tastes great but they give you enough food for two meals! We ordered fish and chips and zucchini last night and we couldn't believe how much was on our plates! We've been here a least a dozen times since moving here three and a half years ago. A friend and I were at Cornerstone today for more than 10 minutes and was completely ignored by wait staff. It was around 2pm at a time when the customer volume was low. Several servers passed by our table and served customers arriving after we had been seated. That was reason enough to get up, leave, and find another place to eat. In Asheville I can be certain there are many better options. This kind is of service makes me angry. read more

We had a party of 6 so I called a day ahead just to give a heads up since they don't take reservations. We probably only waited 5 minutes and the gave us a great table in front of the big fireplace. The newly remodeled space is beautiful, btw. Service was excellent and so was the food. We got everything from fish and chips, to fish tacos, sesame encrusted salmon, and a couple of build your own seafood plates. Everyone said their food was really good. Salads were good, too. The person I spoke to on the phone even introduced herself and asked how our table was. Nary a complaint from a 6 top is pretty good, I think. Will definitely return to try some of the other dishes... the burgers looked delicious and big! read more
