BEWARE DO NOT EVER EAT HERE. It was the MOST vile, disgusting and God awful food that I've ever eaten. I ate very little of it and I was sick for WEEKS. My son and I went there for his birthday. The Greek salad resembles a substandard house salad. We found a small piece of aluminum foil in one of our salads, which we brought to the manager's attention. As usual when we go on trips, my wife does research to find new places for us to try. She found Cornerstone for breakfast and we decided to check it out. We arrived about 10:30am the day after Thanksgiving after a relaxing morning and a quick stop at Starbucks. The parking lot we initially entered on the lower side was full but we were able to find a spot easily on the upper side of the building. There were quite a few people waiting when we arrived but we put our name on the list and waited while keeping an eye on the counter seating which we confirmed was first come, first serve. Tables were turning pretty quickly and we were seated in less than 10 minutes which was a surprise. We were provided menus and our drink orders were taken. We perused the menu and Meredith stopped back in and we placed our orders. My wife chose the Carnivore omelet with a biscuit and gravy on the side and I picked the Country Fried Steak with home fries and a side of rye toast. Our meals arrived in a timely fashion and looked really good. My wife's omelet had a generous amount of meats both on top and inside the omelette. My chicken fried steak was smothered in gravy was pretty tasty also. I enjoyed dipping the rye toast in the sausage gravy as well. The home fries could have been browned more. They were more like a broken up baked potato and not crispy like I prefer. My wife really enjoyed her biscuit with blackberry jelly as well. What a great breakfast! Service was great! She was knowledgeable and friendly. We ordered the shrimp and grits and it hit the spot. The grits were cooked perfectly and paired well with the chorizo sauce. The shrimps were large and plenty. The eggs benedict were delicious and served on top of a large biscuit. What a major disappointment in so many ways.. Place was right near our Homewood Suites hotel so decided to try them for dinner.. I ordered the jumbo fried shrimp dinner with baked potato and coleslaw.. Spouse ordered grilled chicken cobbler salad.. Couldn't eat but one piece of shrimp as it was so disgustingly salty and the baked potato was cold and the coleslaw so dry but majorly sweet.. The grilled chicken was so overcooked, way over seasoned & tough, the bacon so hard spouse couldn't eat it at all.. I sent my shrimp dinner back, ordered a lamb gyro sandwich thinking that would be a fast option so could eat with my spouse.. Gyro came out after my spouse finished and it was a CHICKEN not Lamb gyro. Same over cooked, over salted/seasoned chicken and just gave up and had no dinner.. Waitress was very apologetic, very friendly and we tipped her handsomely.. Couple who dined next to us couldn't eat most of their food either. Guess this place survives on tourists vs locals. Cornerstone is an unsung jewel in the Asheville's restaurant crown. Great folks, a great remodel/upgrade, and great food are the hallmarks of this historic local establishment. It was once a Shoney's, back in the day, and one of the managers, as well as a clever architectural tribute above the kitchen, bear testament to this. Breakfast is my favorite meal here - the Greek Omelette, the blackberry stuffed French toast, and the huevos rancheros are standouts in a varied and high-quality line-up. Local products are used here whenever possible, and that means a lot to me, in terms of both freshness and community support. Stopped over to grab some brunch on the way to Chimney Rock Park. Conveniently located right off the highway, it was a breeze getting in. Service was prompt and friendly and the food was solid. We always come here when we're in town. I've been coming for 20+ years. Even before the renovation it was a, dare I say it, cornerstone in transitional breakfast in Asheville. Close to the heart of Asheville is a fantastic starting point for the day. The portions are large and give you energy well into the late afternoon. Since the renovation the decor is much more modern. Unlike some of the newer places that have flashy new decor and lack substance, this place is worth the visit. Service has never been lacking and they are some of the friendliest servers in the area. This would tell me they are pretty happy in their work environment. I have nothing but great things to say about the place. Like a local Denny's...this place was great and exactly what we wanted at the time. We were a fairly large group (12 people) late morning, in between soccer games for a tournament in town, and we were hoping for a quick-ish meal. I had low expectations for a short- to no-wait time with such a large group, but Cornerstone is like the Tardis and bigger on the inside (also, the weather was nice so outdoor seating was used to maximum effect) and despite the size of our group, we were seated within 5 minutes of arriving! Service for our meal was a little slow, but again, we were a big group and were by ourselves in a back room. We eventually got what we wanted and needed. There was something for everyone...steak and eggs, lunch things, sweet things, savory offerings. It is a real crowd-pleaser. I got a basic meal of eggs and potatoes and a side of bacon with a biscuit. It was a lot of food, so you get bang for your buck here too! Coffee and drinks were flowing and kept full.
