Cornerstone Pie is far and away the best dining experience I've ever had in Ellensburg. I don't live in town, but commute through often. I had been hearing about Cornerstone for months and finally got the chance to go. After I left my first thought was 'damn, what took me so long?'. First things first, atmosphere. The restaurant has a very relaxed and casual vibe, but not like your typical pizza joint. I spoke with the chef and he told me that a lot of the decor had been repurposed from an old hospital. There was just the right amount of quirk to make it interesting, not so much that it became overwhelming. On to the food and drink. We sat at the bar and quickly noticed the awesome tap list. As a beer lover, there is nothing worse than going out for a meal and only seeing a few mediocre selections on tap. I went with the Elysian Men's Room Red, and my friend got a Local IPL. We were at the restaurant pretty early, 10:50 am I think, so we had our options between a breakfast or lunch pizza. I opted for the breakfast pizza and my friend ordered a regular meat pizza. I ordered the breakfast because I love eggs. Like love eggs so much I would be happy doing nothing but eating eggs and drinking runny egg yolks for the rest of my life. Luckily, when my pizza arrived, there were too perfectly cooked eggs sitting right in the middle of all of the other toppings. My pizza also had red pepper, KC bacon, and the perfect amount of cheese. My favorite part was by far being able to break off a piece of perfect crust and dipping it in the warm, runny egg yolk on my pizza. It made me wonder why breakfast pizza isn't served at every pizza joint. You're mouth is watering right now, isn't it? Mine is. My friend ordered a pizza that came with pulled pork, KC bacon(this stuff was so good I haven't stopped talking about it since I left), chorizo,and pepperoni. I kept trying to grab a slice when he wasn't looking, but kept getting my hand slapped away. When he was finally so full he couldn't eat anymore, I stole a piece and loved every bite. Every meat was delicious on its own but the KC back is the star of any pizza it touches. All of the toppings on both pizzas were wonderful, but would be worthless is not placed upon a great crust. The Cornerstone crust was crisp on the outside, and perfectly soft and scrumptious once the thin outer layer was broken. That dough recipe was made for a wood fire oven. Although we were full and satisfied, the chef mentioned their dessert pizza, which I'm usually not a fan of. All other dessert pizzas I've had are usually just streusel and frosting on pizza crust. He promised something different so we decided to give it a go. Soon delivered to us was a pizza I will never forget. The perfect Cornerstone crust, bacon, maple syrup sauce, and powdered sugar. Holy. S**t. I've never had anything like it. The chef likened it to a maple bacon doughnut when he told us about it, but it far surpassed my expectations. It was perfectly sweet, salty, and surprisingly light. As you can tell, I love Cornerstone Pie. So much so that it makes me sad it isn't located in the town I live it. Such a nightmare! Their pizzas are for $20 and they taste like a shoe! This place is run by students who are trying to pay their tuition by working at a pizza place. I'd say go for dominos or even Safeway's frozen pizza over this. read more

While Cornerstone Pie may be in its infancy as a business, I had a great experience. It seems to me that they have hammered out many of their previous issues. I even noticed they had chairs with backs stacked in the corner last time I was in. Their pizza is so good!!!! I can't get enough, my friend and I loved Donna's fav, and last time we tried the Brussels and Bacon special and it was to die for. I have been here 3 times. The first time was during the Grand Opening. I was excited about the prospect of a new restaurant in Ellensburg. D&M has done an excellent job with coffee, and I love the kale salad that is available at the coffee shop. The building is really neat. It's somewhat disappointing that the upstairs does not have seating. That would truly be an alluring first for this town--a different perspective. My companion was creeped out by some of the reclaimed hospital architectural elements, but I thought it was a bold move. I ordered a gluten free pizza. My companion ordered a regular pizza. I have been gluten free for 13 years. I was really surprised when our pizzas arrived, and they looked exactly the same. I ate a piece, and I quit eating, because I thought, "no way is this gluten free." Eventually, the server came to see how things were going. I voiced my concern over the pizza being gluten free. She ASSURED me that was the gluten free crust. She said that they had spent a lot of time researching the crust. She put her hand on my shoulder, and ASSURED me it was safe to eat. I didn't trust it. We took the rest to go. I got SUPER SICK. You might wonder, why did I go back? Because I was invited to go. I figured I would order a salad. My companions ordered me a gluten free pie. The pie that arrived had a completely different shape, and was quite obviously different. We told the waitress about our previous experience. She seemed appropriately taken aback that a server would have put someone with gluten sensitivity at risk like that. So I went once more. This third time, the service was really inconsistent. The employees seemed really detached from their work. The server said they had coffee, and then came back and said they didn't. The food was not very good. The gluten free crust, which has an additional $2.50 charge, was totally black all along on the edge, and thus tasted acrid. My companions pie was a margherita. There were about 4 spots of mozzarella on the entire pie, and a scant sprinkling of chopped up basil pieces, concentrated in the center of the pizza. There were about 4 pieces of the pie that had nothing but a thin layer of tomato sauce on them. I have pretty much decided that this place is really inconsistent, and that for the price...well it has a neat atmosphere, but I don't think it's worth it. Obviously a lot of love has been put into the building and design. I hope it gets better! read more

This place is only blocks from where I live, so I dine in here and get carry-out frequently. The pizzas are a bit pricey, but you're paying for a quality flatbread. The drink selection is always top notch, and the pizzas range from traditional (pepperoni) to the complex (spiced cashews, peppers, artichoke hearts, and garlic sauce), and they do each quite well. This is a branch of the D&M Coffee Company, and so if you'd like an espresso drink it's also a nice place to pop in. You can also go to the back and have a drink made at the drive-thru there. read more

Stopped here on a whim while we had some time to spare before picking up the little one from school. Glad we did. Had the margarita pizza, the sauce could use a bit more seasoning, but the crust was just amazing. And the rest of the ingredients were terrific! The arugula salad was very good as well. And they brought out a piece of dough for our 2 year old to play with while we waited for the pizza to come out. Nice touch. Can't wait to come back and try out the rest of the menu. Loved the decor, the friendly staff, the salad, and the pizza. A large parking area was the only thing lacking. I tried the arugula salad which was a change of pace from usual salads. Could have used more dressing, but the arugula and balsamic reduction already have a lot of flavor. We had the happy hour seafood pizza which was a bargain. I don't recall the name, (Pacific something) but it was also out of the ordinary, so we had to try it. Very good variety of flavors. We really enjoyed the crust. A happy hour size is enough to split if you are eating light or ordering a salad in addition. The people of Ellensburg are lucky to have this place! read more

My daughter is a student at Central, and while I was in town visiting, she suggested pizza for lunch. Having raised 2 kids as a single mom, pizza is one of those things that I burned out on....having it as a fall back meal on busy nights...of which there were many. From the moment we walked through the door, I knew I was not in a fast-food, mass produced pizza "parlour". Ashley, our server, was fun, knowledgeable, and really engaged her customers with her conversation, and in our case, with where not to live...hehe. We ordered a mixed green Caprese salad , and "Donna's Fave" pizza. THe pizzas are artisinal.....excellent flavors, the crust was crisp, chewy, and not too thick or thin...with an appropriate amount of ingredients. We ordered with the intention of sharing, and Ashley brought our salads on 2 plates without us even asking! The prices were reasonable, the place smells fantastic, and even though we were there at lunch time, the place was practically empty. I can see that it could be a wait if the place was full...we were served promptly. I was so impressed with the quality of my lunch, that I would recommend, without hesitation, that if you are anywhere near Ellensburg, be sure to stop here! I know that we will be making it our regular stop, wheneve we are here, and my daughter has copies of the menu for her car and her apartment! A friend and I were taking a road trip from the Seattle area to Spokane. We stopped in Ellensburg for lunch on a Monday afternoon, and found Cornerstone Pie. The location was easy to get to, and parking was a breeze on the day we visited. The service was excellent. Friendly, helpful, informative, and it just seemed that they were there when we needed them and not hovering when we didn't. I wanted something somewhat light, so I got the scampi (a special that day) and a caesar salad. My friend ordered the Big Island pie. My shrimp were cooked perfectly and the seasoning was excellent. I'm pretty sure that they cooked them in the ramekin in the pizza oven, which I'm totally fine with. The salad was good, but not blow-my-mind good. The portion was perfect for what I wanted to eat and what I wanted to pay. I didn't grill my friend on his pizza for exact details, but he liked it quite a bit. It looked and smelled great. The crust seemed right up my alley, which made me kinda wish that I ordered a pizza instead. Looking over the menu, I wished that I was spending more than just one meal in Ellensburg. If I make it east of the mountains again, I know I'll stop back by Cornerstone Pie. read more

We tried this place for the first time on our way back to Washington from Boise, ID. They have online pre-ordering so we took advantage of that and found that really helpful and easy so that we could get back on the road again. My husband and I are really picky when it comes to pizza and we seldom find pizza joints that live up to our expectations but oh..my..gosh. This place was amazing. We ordered the Pesto Pacifica (seafood pizza) and Donna's Fav. Both were delicious, flavorful, hot out of the oven and cooked to perfection. Wish they had more locations in Washington! read more

This was my second time at this restaurant. I enjoy the atmosphere and the friendly wait people. The pizzas are generally pretty good. Today I had the chef salad. For $13, you would expect more than a little bit of iceberg lettuce, avocado, tomato and chicken. It was just a boring salad. Iceberg lettuce is tasteless. The avocado and chicken were good. So where the croutons. It certainly wasn't worth $13. I won't be ordering that again. My friend had the shrimp appetizer, which was quite good. read more

Traveling back home to Oak Harbor from Havre, MT I had wanted pizza. These guys have online ordering which is superb if you're just driving through. I ordered the pizza and we just stopped in and picked it up and got back on the road again. The pizza was amazing!!!! Exactly what I like being the great crust, super fresh toppings and savory sauce! Cornerstone was a nice surprise in eburg. In fact, this is a top 2 stop for us on the Seattle to Spokane drive, maybe #1. We would love this in Bellevue (home) but there really isn't anything that compares. The food was very fresh and well crafted, with a nice atmosphere. We had the donnas favorite pie and some wings. The pie was fire baked, super crispy with a nice hearty dough and roasted garlic that melts in your mouth, delicious! The wings were great, spiced but not soggy or saucy, and the blue cheese creme fraiche was nice and light and perfect. They were $8 for ,7 or so wings which would have been ok except one happened to be scorched to oblivion and inedible. Maybe it got stuck in the back for a few rounds and made it to us as a bonus. Nice beer selection and they serve local roasted espresso and hotter than hades. They had a Moroccan pork shank special that I regret not ordering but will hopefully come back on the way back to try it. read more

Rode my electric disability scooter into the outside area to hear music. They told me it was not allowed. It was the only ramp to get in. I reminded them that they needed to be accessible by law, so they let it stay, but I later found out that they were making fun of me and doubting I had need of the scooter. I won't be back. Also, I took my grandson in one day for a small smoothie...it was over $6! And staff seems rude and condescending. I guess they have different standards depending on if they like you. Not sure what to think of this one yet.. this is the place my grand daughter chose for her 13th bday dinner and it was more like a cafeteria in there..it wasn't the cozy pizza parlor I thought it would be but more like a place where you wait to take out. The outside frontage reminds me of a ski lodge but inside its not the case. Too bad cuz we need a cozy place with a fireplace and some microbrews to go along with the food. The pizza was just OK. I would recommend Cornerstone to anyone! The food is absolutely wonderful, the atmosphere is great and the staff is phenomenal! We went there with a group of about 10 people in January, and our server Steven (sp?) was incredible!! He took each of our orders, MOST of which had a special request, hold this or add that, he didn't write ONE of them down and every single order was dead on!! It was amazing. My family loved him, none of us have ever had such a great experience with the staff at a restaurant before. My boyfriend and I went back today and we both agree that even if the food wasn't as great as it is (and its FANTASTIC!) we would 100% go back just because Steven is THAT great at his job. Holy crap, I went here last night for trivia and it was amazing. When it first went up, I wanted to go but couldn't figure out exactly what it was. During football season, I had some friends visit it and say it was too swanky. We went in last night and it was cool. Like a peaceful cafe that still had a fun atmosphere. Despite the chaos going on from all the people playing trivia, I got my food in a timely matter. I got a simple margarita pizza which was fairly priced and incredible! It was homemade tasting, basically because everything looked like it was fresh made to order. I'm sure I saw fresh bread and deserts. It was just a nice experience with tons of friendly employees and timely service, and fair pricing. I'll be going back for sure. read more

It really pains me to give Cornerstone three stars, given that nearly all of my experiences with them have been exemplary, but my to-go experience this afternoon unfortunately tipped the scale in the opposite direction for me. I came in this afternoon to pick up a wedge salad, which I've had many times before while dining in and have absolutely loved. Upon arriving home, I was very surprised to discover that my salad was (at best) about a third the size of the salads I've previously had in house and that part of the lettuce appeared to be wilted, though not badly. As someone who works at an upscale restaurant, I know that for $8, this salad is normally a steal. However, when you're not getting the full-sized salad, it just feels like a rip off. I would've purchased all the ingredients for not much more had I known what my take-out order would look like. The inconsistency about certain food items, outside of this incident, is really my only complaint about this restaurant. My family and I tend to order the same food items when we come in, and while they're always good, sometimes they're much better than others. That being said, everything is really fresh. There are tons of options and I have yet to have any that I was really displeased with. The people who work here are very friendly and provide good service. It's close to the university and downtown. They have live music sometimes. They have gluten-free pizza crust if that's your deal. If you don't mind a little inconsistency or the size of your portions, I'd definitely recommend Cornerstone. EDIT: As Mark has said, the people at Cornerstone were very prompt and kind in correcting their mistake. I bumped my review up to a four because of this. read more
