Irlinda who is the manager and Patrick who is her second in command are extraordinary, hardworking, kind, caring and so lovely to deal with! Big shout out to them both... free parking and reasonably priced! I think the owners need to add more staff because several problems we experienced could've been solved way more quickly if there were additional staff! When we checked out, they asked us how our stay was. We answered unfortgetable, take that either way you want. If we could give a minus 10, we would. They didn't clean our room for two days, we had to go and get them when we came back at around 9 pm. There were not enough towels. The floors were filthy. No clock. No full length mirror. No where to sit in front of a mirror to put makeup on. So called breakfast is non memorable. Staff were nice enough. Having on site parking, at no charge, was a plus. The only thing we liked, was the bed, although it did shake when ever someone moved in the bed. Hated it. Would never stay there again, and would never recommend it to anyone I liked. I would give zero stars if I could. This place flat-out scammed us. They charged my card $500 for a "shattered shower door"--something we never broke. We checked out at 10am on Sunday, left our ID when borrowing beach supplies, and returned everything around 2pm. The manager said nothing. At 6:45pm, we suddenly get a call from the night manager Patrick saying Yolanda told him to hit us with a $500 charge. When we left, my wife actually spoke with Yolanda directly and she never mentioned a thing. Now the story has changed--today they're claiming we broke a toilet seat. For the record, the lid was loose when we arrived, but it was NOT broken and didn't affect us, so we didn't bother reporting it. The shifting excuses are laughable. First a shattered shower door, then a broken toilet seat? Which is it? In decades of travel, I've never experienced anything like this. It's shady, inconsistent, and feels like a cash grab. These people come across as scam artists. Save yourself the headache and stay far, far away. read more

I had an absolutely fantastic time at this hotel. It's in the best location and the greatest asset is Patrick behind the front desk. I think he is actually a divine being in human form. The accommodations were incredible. I loved the dual shower which is very high-tech and the large screen TV. Patrick let me know that I could park my car the next day for no extra charge at the hotel garage. This is a pet friendly place and it is kept very clean. I will definitely return. It's only eight minutes to the beach by foot. Patrick is perhaps the greatest hotel manager I've ever encountered in my life. read more

Horrible management and crisis response. Stayed here for Valentine's for one night. Our room completely flooded with water everywhere. The water wasn't draining due to bad pipes, and since the water was being held in the shower, it leaked into the walls which caused the water to get pushed out through the closet walls and floorboards. The water completely filled our restroom as well as our room. Since the hotel is NOT "24/7", as they are advertised, we had to call an after hours line that provided no help since no one is there to help past 11 PM. We were only comped 25% off when the room should've completely been comped due to the other complaints about plumbing issues. A full refund is still expected since this is also a health and safety hazard and considering they are still booking rooms with plumbing issues. We had to take about 12 pool towels from the gated off area that had to be jumped over to be able to handle the situation. This situation lasted about 2 hours which led to our clothes and everything on the floor getting wet and no sleep. They sent someone the next morning only to fix the clogged drains. We probably saved them thousands of dollars in repairs since we had to dry it ourselves. Only 25% off is absurd. This is an ongoing situation with this hotel. Do not stay here. read more

The check in process. I drove to the hotel early to go to the Sawdust Festival and the Pageant. Knowing the room would not be ready until 3 and I would not be back until very late... I simply wanted to get my key and check in...but that wasn't possible. When I finally returned at 11:30 pm.... No one was on site and there was a phone number to call. I called and she directed me to a lock box which I could not open. I tried a 2nd one and could not open it. Finally a manager called and came. It was now about mid nite and I was waiting in the parking lot alone. He was able to open it. Needless to say... I should have been given the key earlier in the day and perhaps having an employee on site at night would help. read more

Things promised on the website are not available, for example, a bowl of hard boiled eggs in the lobby is not a omelette bar. Customer service was subpar. Beach chairs that were listed as a perk of the hotel were broken. Pool was filthy and tiny. Our feet were black from walking in our bedroom barefoot. The list goes on and on. Light switch and electrical outlet don't match. Fire sprinklers are rusted and need replacing. Electrical cords dangling from back of tv. The bad... Damaged bathtub with different colored repair. Paint peeling from ceiling and along bathtub. Some weird black stuff on wall where it looks like mirror fell and wasn't put back up properly. Is that black mold?!?!?! No holder for toilet paper roll. Patrick and Dylan and Mario are the best front desk attendants. Always helpful and friendly when I pop by and you get a small breakfast - glad there is cottage cheese and yogurt and nuts - I'm limited in what I can eat and I was grateful to have something and real milk for my coffee and the teas are wonderful! My husband loves the cookies at check in. It's a great spot at a great price for us to visit Orange County. The WiFi was a little spotty so I just used a hotspot from my phone but I'm aware not everyone can do that. I am also ultra paranoid about security and so I don't have my room cleaned during my stay and just change my own stuff out halfway through and they are very accommodating with my OCD. There is a small pool that was a little chilly so I was a polar bear just enjoying it and my husband could only do a quick dip and out to the sun. We've stayed in two different king rooms with balconies and one had a little more road noise because of pch but still very nice and safe to sleep with window open at night. Convenient location to pop over to shake shack or laguna proper and I walk a lot so it was perfect but there is also a trolley. Liquor store across the street and a Chinese restaurant there is a cute coffee place a few blocks and Mercado Laguna has some grab n go items too. See you again soon! read more

Believe me when I say (anything because I'm not a liar) save your money, this is a glorified motel 6 that is not walking distance to anywhere you want to be in Laguna Beach. Upon check in we immediately asked for a full refund and we're ready to book another hotel (Pacific Edge and Laguna Beach Hotel are better options) and they denied us that. We spent $400 a night thinking the jacuzzi bath and closeness to the beach would be worth it- it wasn't, we didn't even take a bath in the nasty stained tub. The main thing this hotel has going for it is the location. It's a short walk to the beach and about a mile walk to ice cream, coffee, and a grocery store. The trolly is super convenient too. I definitely recommend walking to Asada Tacos for lunch! However, the rooms are basic and Internet connectivity is super slow. Don't plan on getting any work done during your down time in the hotel. It's also not really a hotel. It's more of a "remodeled" motel. The staff is friendly and they have a continental breakfast included, but it's nothing to write home about. The sign in the lobby, "omelettes upon request" seems a bit strange and there is no waffle maker. The road noise is probably the worst part of staying at the Art "Hotel". We were woken up at 5:30am by the road noise and a loud TV next door as the walls are paper thin. Ironically, all the "art" on the walls is hung crooked. lol. DON'T STAY HERE... unless you want to struggle with filth. As we checked in, we heard a guest complain about towels, but didn't think much of it. And then again, when we checked out, and I was explaining our experience to the front desk of having filthy towels and filthy floors, another guest quietly told me he had the exact same experience, but since he was with his family, he didn't want to move them to another hotel. First impression was that it was cute enough and would do. Clearly old and not kept up well but it has a newer coat of paint to make it at least a little charming. I was extremely surprised that it was $450 and expected a lot more. But it was a Sunday night on a holiday weekend, and I suppose that's their way of price gouging on a busy weekend. Come to find out they often charge closer to $150/night. That's some up charge!! Shortly after checking in, I was about to take a shower when I noticed my towel wasn't clean...and I don't mean like they had a little dirt on it, but like filthy with red marks and dark black marks. Not one towel but both. They looked like they were just folded and put back without even going through a washer. So, I asked Patric, the very pleasant gentleman at the front desk, for a replacement. There were none. We even went to the laundry room...zero backup towels. A stark indicator that the owner doesn't want to spend any money on necessities, like towels. So, I was led to a room that hadn't been checked in yet to pilage from that bathroom...success...except those towels were just as filthy with orange and black marks. Again, clearly these "clean" towels hadn't been washed either. So, I was offered beach towels. You know the kind that are a little too rough and a little too thin from years of use. Yep, that's what we got to use. We had a towel in the car, so we used that as well. I didn't know this was a $450/night hotel where we had to bring our own towels. Fine, we had something to dry off with, but there wasn't a hook in the bathroom to hang the towels on...or even a toilet paper roll hook...just a loose toilet paper roll. I guess we were just supposed to put everything on the toilet seat or drape them over the shower rod, like we were in a frat house. When we pulled the shower curtain, it was about 3 feet too short to meet one side of the shower to the other. So, needless to say, water splashed out on the floor and we needed to use a towel to soak it up. But wait, there's more...there was so much sand and grim on the floor next to the bed that when we got in, we tracked dirt along with us under the sheets. CLEARLY, this room had not been swept, vacuumed, or ever mopped. My feet were black with dirt. ABSOLUTELY DISGUSTING!! Looks like they did some renovations because the rooms looked great especially the showers! We absolutely loved our stay! From the outside it does look slightly on the older side but the rooms were a pleasant surprise! Even better this hotel is right across the gorgeous crescent bay beach just minutes away! First of all the breakfast is very Continental. Very basic. Doors do not seal, but they do close and lock. The tv is super small. The beds where comfortable. Bring your own pillows. They have k cup machines in every room. Make sure to bring your own water. For the coffee maker. The floor is linoleum so they do clean them. Everything is white. So after each guest they have to was them. There is a lot of road noise. In our room there is no comfortable chair or couch. The staff is very nice. The pool is dirty. They allow dogs for a $40 per night fee. There is a tiny view of the ocean by the pool. There is no easy way to get to the beach and no beach sound. There is nothing around here but a stop and go market. Would I come here again. Even know it clean and the staff is nice. That's it. I will not come back here. No No No No No No No No. Checkin time is 3pm. We got there at 5:30. The couple before us... after 30 mins of hmmm'n and hawwww'n from the clerk, were told their room wasn't ready. So we assumed we would have the same bad news. Well our news was worse. Even though we booked 2 months in advance and stated that we had a dog.... We were told after the routine 20 min hmmm'n and hawww'n that there weren't any "pet" rooms available and that we were SOL. No apologies.... No offer for a discount in the future. At check in, after seeing my receipt from Airbnb, the desk person required my credit card for what he said was only for incidentals. After my stay my credit card was charged for the room. when I called the hotel they said there was nothing they could do and it had to be referred to their corporate office. they gave me no contact for their corporate office and I haven't heard back from them since, and they were rude on the phone. I would have been totally ok with this if they had just returned my money. I even might have been ok with dealing with the corporate office run around - but to be rude on the phone just tops it all off. This is a bad place. read more

I really liked this hotel. Laguna is a great place to visit. Micheal at the reception is especially nice and accommodating. He will make you feel right at home. My room was recently remodeled. Nice bright, spacious and clean. The large shower is a big plus for me. Large comfortable super king bed and a nice sized TV. Slept like baby here. The under ground parking garage is also great, especially in comparison to some hotels that have cramped or street parking. Being nestled on the hill side across the street from the ocean, I could hear the ocean waves crashing at night. Very therapeutic. Found In a convenient location, I walked to town every day for meals, art browsing and beach fun stuff. People are great around here. Very friendly atmosphere. The price is right too....!!! Had two night stay reserved, but left after one night. Got to room which had an overwhelming smell of bleach-had to open door to vent and burn some candles. Room was renovated, but still needed work. Reading lights on side of bed were bad (one worked with cable running along wall behind bed), sink was missing drain cover/cap-bad smell, gnats were present, main outlet under tv area was open, small tv, door didn't seal well, and worst thing was about the one chair they have in the room. It was missing two bolts which made it more of a rocking chair which my wife discovered and fell forward when sitting in it. Called and had chair replaced with night attendant. He was supposed to tell mgr.(didn't)-I spoke with her who was nice and we left next morning. read more

one night at $375.00. after trying to call 2 separate defunct phone numbers for questions, we ended up just going with our dog. their website says, "dog friendly". upon arriving I'm surprised that they call this a hotel. more like a motel 6. At the front desk is the rudest woman I've ever met. her name is Lori. she tells me that I owe $25.00 for the dog after paying $375.00 for one night. this was not on the website and this is why I kept trying to call but their phones didn't work. no one ever answered. she then gives me a pet policy paper I need to sign. it states that the dog can't be left in the room by himself. she tells me I can take him to the beach and we need to take him to pageant of the masters show. Mario, the young man also working the desk tries to tell her that my dog will be fine in the room and that later another guy will be in to work and can watch the dog I. the lobby. she vetoes this and states that dogs cannot be in the lobby. she actually calls the night manager to make sure that he does not help us in any way. per the policy that I signed, we'll be evicted if we leave the dog in the room. let me add that for the price, the place is a dump. the shower never drained after the first one of us took a shower. the rest of us had to shower in 4 inches of dirty water. that water was still there the next morning despite telling the front desk. Dogs are not allowed on the beach nor the show. we would've put him in boarding if we knew all the problems we'd encounter. I would like to reach out to top management about this rude woman who is supposedly the cfo of the motel. read more

Also, the floor of our room was not mopped as when I got out of the shower and was getting ready, my feet were black from the floors by the time I was done getting ready. I stayed at this hotel numerous times and I rarely had a problem. The rooms are pretty nice for the price and it's at a great location. However last time I stayed, it didn't go well at all... THEY CHARGED ME A $150 SMOKING FEE AND I DO NOT EVEN SMOKE. I have stayed here several times in the past and never had a serious problem. Just minor things I did not make a big deal out of. . During my last stay they claimed that my room smelled like smoke. I do not even smoke and yet they charged me $150 out of no where. There were people smoking next door to me so I can only assume it may have came through the vent when I had the AC on all night I called them to clear up the confusion but the woman I spoke to on 2/16 at 9:15pm would not help me. She was very rude and not once showed any concern for my issue. Her attitude was very unwelcoming. She lacked basic customer service. I had a couple of issues here and there but I never voiced it on here because the staff was really nice. After speaking with this woman and this $150 charge, I had to mention it. I also noticed the Yelp only has 5 very recent reviews even though this company has been here for years. Interesting... where did all of the reviews go? I'm staying at the Art Hotel. It's 12:55 AM as I write this review. I checked into a room with my wife & son. I was told the rooms on both sides of us were empty. A group checked into the room adjacent to us around midnight. They had so many people such loud noise that a 12:55 I called the front desk. The first few times I called no one even picked-up. Eventually on the third or fourth try someone did pick-up. He told my wife they would move us to a new room. Not that he would ask them to quiet down. Not that he would kick them out if they refused, but that we should move, including my 8 year old son who was still asleep. I will never stay in this hotel again. Update: it's 1:00 AM and he must have called them because there are now quiet. I will still never stay here again. read more

Horrible "daylight" lighting including bedside lights... and a terrible feature of the NON-renovated bathroom - a motion activated light which turned on the fan at the same time!! Going to the bathroom in the middle of the night was grim! Loud AC. We didn't even bother to stay for the "snack" breakfast (as described to us by the clerk at check in.) bed was decent but between the awful smell and the prison lighting this place is NOT comfortable. read more
