Mold

I would give this hotel 1 star actually the front desk guy he was nice. But I felt like I was at a motel, who ever the cleaning lady is needs to be fired..... baseboards dusty, a dead fly on the floor, the curtains and walls nasty mold on the ceiling . I even said ew this is ghetto for Laguna beach. The water dispenser in the lobby had white film or nasty not clean at all. Please becareful. This needs to be reported to public health department

Stains on walls

The entire hotel experience was awful. I would not recommend to anyone. The hotel is not clean. Things promised on the website are not available, for example, a bowl of hard boiled eggs in the lobby is not a omelette bar. Customer service was subpar. Beach chairs that were listed as a perk of the hotel were broken. Pool was filthy and tiny. Our feet were black from walking in our bedroom barefoot. The list goes on and on. Save yourself the trouble and money. Find a different hotel.

Damaged bathtub poorly repaired.

WAY OVER PRICED for $385 a night. I will NOT be returning and would not recommend staying here. I do not understand all the positive reviews. Stayed here for anniversary trip and was EXTREMELY disappointed. Better off staying at a Best Western or similar. The good, the bad, and the ugly about the stay... The ugly... Light switch and electrical outlet don't match. Fire sprinklers are rusted and need replacing. Electrical cords dangling from back of tv. The bad... Damaged bathtub with different colored repair. Paint peeling from ceiling and along bathtub. Some weird black stuff on wall where it looks like mirror fell and wasn't put back up properly. Is that black mold?!?!?! No holder for toilet paper roll. The good... check in and check out was easy. Gentleman at check in and check out was polite.

Patrick let me know that I could park my car the next day for no extra charge at the hotel garage.

The service was excellent and can see that staff takes great care and attention to making sure everything is taken care of. We very much appreciated all the amenities this inn had to offer such as the welcome drink, evening cookies (delicious!), sauna, sunblock at the pool, towels, lovely breakfast.. all complimentary (breakfast with resort fee). We also appreciated the 10% military discount. We stayed in room 23 which was a standard queen bed with garden view and liked that spot because it felt central, private, and quiet. The room is on the smaller side but it was fine. It does not have a fridge but they provide an ice bucket. We ended up putting our bottled waters on top of the AC box and that kept it cool. Being that the inn is beautifully historic, there weren't many outlets inside the room. The bath robes were very plush. Both lamp shade knobs didn't seem to turn properly but we made it work somehow. Otherwise, we felt well taken care of throughout our stay and so glad we came. Aside from the inn, there is a walk to get to Victoria Beach. We walked south along Coast Highway to Victoria Place and found the underpass from there. We also took the free trolley outside of the hotel to get around town. It could be quite a wait for the trolley as we waited 30 mins. There is a QR code on the sign to track the trolley locations.

The staff were friendly and attentive while we hung out at the pool. They even offered us a free upgrade for the jacuzzi wellness spa which comes with a whole bottle of champagne! The rooms had character, a comfy bed, and came equipped with many fun bar items for purchase. It was a bit musty but I think that is expected with being so close to the beach. One of my favorite parts of the hotel that was unexpected was the free breakfast. The breakfast was seated with a server where we had many options from a delicious, light, and healthy menu. Definitely recommend Casa Laguna for a celebration, staycation, or a relaxing weekend getaway. :)

I had the tomato risotto, which was flavorful and cooked to perfection. The fish tacos were also very good. One pleasant surprise was the salsa--it was fresh, flavorful, and had an authentic homemade taste. The mango turmeric lemonade tasted fresh, healthy, and refreshing. What truly made this dining experience special, though, were the magnificent views overlooking the ocean waves. The beautiful scenery elevated the entire meal and made it a memorable experience.

My room appeared to be next to what sounded like a utility or service room, and there was loud equipment noise running throughout the entire night. Sleeping was nearly impossible. I reached out to the hotel by both text and email after my stay and was told the matter would be looked into. It has now been over a week with no follow-up or resolution whatsoever. For the rates Surf & Sand charges, guests should not be placed in rooms with constant overnight noise issues, and concerns should certainly not be ignored afterward. Very disappointing experience from a hotel that presents itself as a luxury property.

The staff was friendly and attentive. The location is amazing - it's a short walk to downtown Laguna Beach for restaurants, coffee shops, galleries, and shops. You can take the beach path on the ocean side of the hotel (there are a lot of stairs) or take the sidewalk on the street side of the hotel. We stayed in the Sunset Suite on the 5th (top) floor. The view from the room and balcony was incredible, especially at sunset. The room was very nicely decorated and extremely comfortable. The bed, pillows, and towels were perfect and felt very luxurious. The cleaning staff did an exceptional job - everything was spotless and nicely tidied up.

Unfortunately, our experience was disappointing in several areas. The room was not very clean when we arrived. We found leftover drinks and cups that had been squeezed and stuffed inside the safe, and the air vents were noticeably dirty, which caused us to sneeze throughout our stay. Pool service was also difficult to find, and it seemed like the hotel could really benefit from having more staff. Additionally, the elevator made a very loud and disturbing noise every time the doors opened and closed, which was concerning. Overall, the location and views are definitely highlights, but the cleanliness, maintenance, and service need significant improvement.

The hotel is just a few minutes' walk to the beach and Heisler Park, which offers stunning views. The hotel even provides beach chairs to take with you, a thoughtful touch. Downtown Laguna Beach, with its shops and restaurants, is about a 10-minute walk away. We love that the pool is always perfectly refreshing and saltwater. Each room has its own personality, with unique layouts and charming beach decor. Every room we've stayed in has been clean and comfortable. We're always so impressed with the staff, from the housekeeping team to management. They are genuinely accommodating and want every guest to feel at home, which is exactly how we feel, so much so that we've often extended our stay by a day. Another huge plus is that this hotel is pet-friendly, which is important to us. Overall, this place is a perfect combination of comfort, charm, and exceptional hospitality. My room was extremely clean for the duration of my stay. The gentleman who checked me out at the end of my stay was very pleasant. However, I am only giving three stars because first impressions are lasting and the woman who was working the Office check-in desk when I arrived made me feel like an annoyance who was interrupting her work. She was efficient but less than welcoming during the check-in process. Unfortunately, I had to interact with this woman two more times during my stay and each interaction was equally unpleasant. My goal in staying at The Tides was to destress but she made me feel like "Bad Dog". Soon after checking in, I had to return to the Office to ask for assistance with accessing the WiFi and a day later, I had to ask for assistance with accessing the pool. I assumed that I needed to use my hotel key to open the gate to the pool. The Office woman made me feel like a fool when she rolled her eyes and said in a tone that I interpreted as exasperated, "There's a latch at the upper top corner of the gate." She was right. There was a latch but it was painted the same color as the gate and I didn't notice it. I only noticed the key hole. My bad. As I floated in the pool, I said to myself, "You are Bad Dog." Someone needs to explain to this Office woman that without these pesky visitors, her business will have no customers and she will have no job.
