I've visited Costa Brava a couple of times and never have I left disappointed. Most recently, I had a reservation for 2 for 8:15pm on a Friday night. The place was PACKED and we had to snake our way to the bar while we waited for our table. The hostess (and owner) let us know that we would be seated 10-15 minutes late, which was no problem for us. We were served by Eynar and were VERY impressed with him. He was very kind, funny, and his recommendations were spot on every time. He definitely made our experience amazing. We had the escargot to start, the scallops and the duck, and the apple tart for dessert. My only complaint was that the escargot was a teeny bit bland, but the rest of the meal certainly made up for it. Amazing restaurant, I would highly recommend it! read more

I went with 2 friends for lunch. They had salads and I had the onion / gruyere soup. I felt like someone decided to punish me for not having an entree: the portion of soup was ridiculously small (but served in a very large plate...). I almost said something but didn't because one of my friends was buying. You have to have courage (or hide behind the pretentious atmosphere) to serve that minuscule portion and charge $9 for a soup. Great restaurant. Clientele tends to be a little older, so a great place to take your parents :-). Food is very good (the escargot are lovely, the quail is really a highlight) although some of the starters are not perfect (asparagus special were a little over cooked, the octopus could have used some more seasoning). The deserts are lovely, if you can get the toaster pear creme brûlée, you're in for a treat! Really a unique restaurant for Houston. We were seated promptly on Valentines evening, that was amazing. The service was amazing starting with a happy greeting by the hostess. Our waiter was attentive and nice. The food is amazing! I highly recommend the red snapper topped with lobster and the steak! Every bite was amazing! The bread pudding is to die for! We also had salmon with caviar and the grilled octopus for starters. They serve the Mexican coke which is in the bottle, taste so much better than can or fountain and their coffee was good. Be prepared to spend a pretty penny but it is worth it. Spanish and French influenced menu. Located in a strip mall on Bellaire. We walked into a full packed restaurant around 8:45 on a Friday, luckily we were seated right away. Ordered the escargots, garlic shrimp and frisee salad. The escargots were served on a baguette drenched in a delicious garlic butter sauce, jumbo shrimp also garlic heavy but I was loving it. We got an order of the paella and quail, both delicious. Paella not served in the traditional paella pan but jam packed with shrimp, calmari, chicken, mussels, beef. It was delicious. Quail was on point, love those teeny little birds. Service was amazing, everything was paced perfectly and came out pretty quickly Note: definitely a more mature dining crowd, doubt anyone was younger than 40 read more

Reservation???? What reservation? Look at the fine print in your One Table confirmation. You don't make a reservation here, al least the type where they save a table for you. Instead, you get "priority seating". In other words, if you have an 8 o'clock reservation and the only available table becomes open at 10 of eight, they seat it with someone else and don't wait for you. But you are first in line behind others who arrived before you Okay, it also took 30 minutes to even get a glass of wine. The lamb chops were really good but the rest of the meals were mediocre. This is definitely a worth a try restaurant. The food was good, gazpacho and mojitos are excellent. The shrimp and scallop dish was also good. The MANAGER...oh my goodness, he was the best. We were placed at a table we didn't like and 5 minutes later he gave us a new seat. He is definitely customer service oriented and cares about his business. read more

We had a slight wait for our table so had a glass of wine at the bar - nice selection, good service. Table service was equally good and attentive. Wine list is small but well-chose, well-priced and interesting. Three star rating is for the food as everything else was very good. Gazpacho was very good and nicely done. Carpaccio was not your standard preparation but thick slices of beef and smoked salmon. Pork with chorizo stew was well-cooked but nothing was a standout on the flavors. Paella was very disappointing, especially considering this is a house specialty. Mussels were cold so rubbery and very unappetizing. They did replace them with some lukewarm ones which was better. Shrimp in the dish was good but overall very fishy tasty. Chunks of boiled meats in there was just out of place and did not contribute to flavor of dish. It just was not good. And, food was so salty we were both up several times during the night to guzzle water. Nice spot, pleasant dining experience but food was sub-par. read more

We went to Costa Brava at the recommendation of our friends. We have never had a really good restaurant in Bellaire and were a bit apprehensive. Boy, were we surprised! We were seated immediately when we arrived. We had a reservation. The service was excellent; quick, friendly and helpful. Our waiter was superb. Some of the dishes we ordered needed to be modified slightly because of some of our party's dietary requirements. (We were four guests) This did not change the quality of the food at all. The Gazpacho was recommended by our friends. It was very good; smooth and tasty. We ordered the snapper which was done to perfection. I had the special of the day, which was short ribs with a red wine sauce. It was really delicious. For dessert, each couple shared the apple tart. Wonderful and different. It is a pleasure to have a good restaurant in Bellaire to which we will return. Good job Costa Brava! read more

I went here with my husband. This bistro reminds me of our honeymoon to Spain. Great food and staff. Foie gras with grape sauce was amazing.

This is an excellent little restaurant in a Bellaire strip center. The decor is excellent and it's rarely so noisy that you can't have a quiet conversation at the table, even when the place is packed (which it usually is). We've always had excellent service. The portion sizes are reasonable so you can have an appetizer, a main meal, and a dessert. Food quality is excellent. The only reason I give it only four stars is that I'm vegan and the only naturally vegan item on the menu is the gazpacho soup (which is excellent). However, the waiter was respectful of my needs and the chef came to our table and devised a delicious main dish. (Not the oily grilled vegetables or a boring salad that I too often have to have at restaurants without vegan items on their menu.) Sadly, there was no vegan dessert. read more

This was my third time here and this still remains one of my favorite restaurants in Houston. This is real Spanish food. There have been many restaurants over the years that proclaim themselves to be Spanish, but they aren't. This is a small but very nicely decorated restaurant. The food was fantastic. I had the Galician style octopus with potatoes and then scallops on a lemon risotto and they were both incredible. Great service, and a great wine selection as well. read more

My colleague told me about this restaurant so I decided to have dinner there with another colleague and friend. I was so looking forward to having paella here, as I haven't had it in such a long time. When we arrived, we were able to park right out front and our reservation was waiting for us. The server who greeted us took us to a very nice, comfortable corner table. Our server was attentive and took our orders. We both ordered the paella. When our meals arrived, the presentation was great and the first bites were yummy. However, my friend found a piece of plastic in her meal, like something from packaging. The plastic piece was more than an inch long and about 1/3 of an inch wide, from what I recall. We asked the waiter over so that we could inform him of the "find." He apologized profusely and offered to bring a fresh meal. My friend accepted. Then the owner came over and apologized and told us that she would be bringing over a fresh plate of food. The new dish came so fast that we were able to complete our meals together. By the way, the paella was delicious. When the check came, we were surprised to see that my friend's paella was itemized on the bill. We were expecting the server or owner to come over and say that her meal was complimentary because she had to chew on plastic. So I called for the waiter and asked if they were planning to do something for my friend who had to endure an object in her food. The server asked if we wanted a small dessert on the house. We said no. He said that he was from Spain and where he's from, her meal would be free. We agreed and said that's what should happen here. So he talked to the owner, who came dashing over. The owner also asked if we wanted a complimentary small dessert. We said no. Then she said that she's been in the business for a long time and she was already "out" because she had to give my friend a new plate of food. I accepted her perspective and explained that when our meals came, our experience with the restaurant was at zero. Nothing spectacular had occurred outside a normal dining experience for a restaurant of that type. So we're at zero. Finding plastic in the food takes our experience into the negative. And replacing the meal gets us back to zero. If this is to be an exceptional experience for us, then she needed to comp my friend's meal. She made a martyr move and said that she would take care of the entire bill. Well, that wasn't the answer, because my meal was plastic-free. So I'm willing to pay for my meal and our drinks. The intent was not to walk away without paying for anything. So I said to the owner that I would like to see her remove my friend's meal from the bill. And she agreed. While that was a positive outcome, my friend and I were surprised that we had to have this banter with the owner for her to do what's right (in the eyes of the American diner). Not one person to whom I described the situation disagreed. When we left the restaurant, the owner and several of the servers did bid us a very fond farewell. read more

Delicious! A welcome surprise. Warm welcome and quickly seated. Slight delay in ordering wine but once service started everything was perfect. Red snapper, with crab and a fabulous sauce , over harticote verts. I was informed the fish is fresh from the coast and hand selected and filleted. Freshness was evident. Thumbs up! Our party of six went Saturday, Sept. 22nd, at 9:00 pm (called first to confirm seating) and had a wonderful meal. In brief the food was excellent and the service could not be better. Snapper and salmon were standout entres. When we asked for ice cream to finish the meal we were told it was not in stock but they would get it from a nearby shop. That to me is going the extra mile. This is a lovely, upscale dining option. The wait staff are all super friendly as is the owner. Most important, the food is excellent! Quality ingredients combined creatively. This was my first, and definitely will be my last time coming to this restaurant. First thing is, the food is over priced. I ordered the shrimp appetizer and the shrimp was very cold. When I asked to speak to the manager, Kitty (more like Booboo Kitty from Empire) she was extremely rude when I asked her if the kitchen could reheat my shrimp. She did say yes, but it was going to be about 45 minutes to an hour. Really? That long? When I told her it was ok because I had to go back to work, her response was, "Why did you call me over here then?". Bottom line, the food sucked and the customer service was even worse. Wouldn't recommend this restaurant to anyone. read more

Very impressed with both the service and food here. I'm not normally an octopus fan, but I could have eaten a bucket of the grilled octopus here and my veal tenderloin & mushroom risotto was delicious. DISCRIMINATING TREATMENT, ARROGANT MANAGEMENT, POOR CUSTOMER SERVICE. My wife and I went to this restaurant Saturday afternoon around 5:50 pm, the place was empty just three tables were occupied, the manager offered the bar or small table at the end of the restaurant, we asked for a another table because there were plenty in the dining room, he said he could not give us any other table, obviously he didn't want us in the restaurant. "It's a shame that this type of behavior still happens in Houston". We will never return to this place and we don't recommend this restaurant to anybody. read more

Yum! Food was great. Order a bottle of red wine and get ready for a good dinner! I had the pork, literally the best pork I have ever had! My husband had the paella, and it was great. My server was a little weird, but very friendly. The place is small, and a little crowded, but it adds to the warmth and vibe of the place. Nice dinner spot! The service was generally good--until the promised birthday treat did not come. Was celebrating with my family and didn't want to make a fuss. Not a good idea to promise something and not follow through. Table was very small. Felt like we were right next to the wall. Waiter took away the candle and rose to make room. Both were outstanding...the jumbo prawns were accompanied by a powerful garlic mixture, so beware if you don't like garlic...a lot. I ordered the paella, and the recipe included pork, beef and chicken in addition to the usual mussels and shrimp. Everything was well presented, and the wine selection is excellent. The servings were very generous! My only complaint is that they would not seat our party of five until we were complete and there is no space at the bar to wait. They were also pushy about some of us being 10 minutes late for the reservation. read more
