We sat down for several minutes, servers walking by, finally one asked if we had been helped - NOPE. Someone went to get Breana. Im not sure if shes new or terrible server. Hoping new. We get our drinks, she brings me a water ( i ordered a coke). they bring out bread, without plates. Our appetizers came out , had to ask for plates. Fried Green Tomatoes and Fried Mushrooms were really good. Had to ask for refills. Food comes out. Broccoli casserole was cold. sauteed mushrooms were cold. At least the beef tips and steak was warm. after about ten minutes of sitting around, we dont see our waitress anywhere, another waitress asks if we need help. She goes to find our server. Well after a weekend packed adventure of Mexican food, we come here for a second visit and some variety. I think there would be something for everyone to choose from on the menu.. Service was top notch....We both lived outside of our comfort zone and went with something different. I had to go the route of Chicken Tortilla Soup, a cup that is...Was really good, came with a small plate of add on item, chip strips, cheese, pico, and some fresh cold avocado. Great Combo of Flavors. Of course we had to have Queso and Chips. The Queso stands out from anything you will find at a Mexican joint, and its good. Sometimes different is good!! Wife had the Shiner Fish and Chips...Hot, Crispy and fresh!!...Fries were seasoned well and there was enough on the plate to take some home. I had the Grilled Cajun Duo...I could go into detail, but browse the menu. All around mine was DeLish!!! The one down side was the food, which varied from overly spicy to under seasoned, to just not very good. I called ahead to make a reservation, and even though they don't take them the server I spoke with left a note with the hostess so she was ready for us when we walked in. The chef even came out during the meal and greeted the birthday boy personally! One of their best dishes is the chicken fried steak - it comes just as it should, smothered in cream gravy! They have several sides to choose from, all delicious. For those of us eating on the lighter side, they also have several healthy dishes. I selected the tilapia, and when I asked my server about substitutions because I didn't want the rice, she didn't skip a beat in recommending a comparable option that came with a small salad and "skinny veggies" (about a cup of steamed broccoli, squash and carrots). Was in the neighborhood and saw this on Yelp so got some take-home for the family. Called it in and it was ready in about 15 minutes. Packaged up carefully, and the server even showed me the food as she packed it to confirm everything. MAN it smelled great. Tasted great, too, even after 30 minutes in the car. I went to the Cotton Patch Birthday event last year and this year it was no better. I got there and there were empty tables all over the restaurant but they would not seat them because they said they didn't have enough servers, the servers I saw did not looked rushed at all. I was by myself so I stayed the over 30 minute wait to finally get seated. The server came and I ordered a beer and the Chicken Fried Chicken that was part of the birthday special. The beer came and it was flat and had no carbonation at all, that is ok I drank it anyway. When my food arrived it looked good enough till I tried the Chicken Fried Chicken and it was luke warm at best, the sides were much better than the entree, I sent it back and got another plate which was still not hot and fresh but better than the first one I received. I asked for some bread and guess what, it was cold as well. Beer Cold Good, Food Cold Bad! I felt sorry for the staff and all the customers who showed up for this catastrophic event, I should have known better, but I did it anyway. Never again..... read more

Went to cotton patch for their burgers, and they were just a little greasy but pretty decent overall. I wish I could say the same for the fries, which tasted like they had been sitting out for awhile. And the service, the very bizarre service, is the reason for my less than stellar review. The dining experience started off just fine. Our waitress was nice but definitely quirky. She checked in on us every 30 seconds it seemed -- after the drink order, after the food order, when the food arrived, after we had taken our first bites, mid-way through, once we started looking "full" but were still eating. If I had gone to the restroom, I bet she would have checked on me in my stall to see how my experience was going and then once more afterward to see how it ended. At the end of the meal, she asked "could I interest you in a dr pepper or chocolate cake or pecan pie?" And we said, "a dr pepper to-go would be great." Then she asked if we needed to-go cups. Confused, we said "just the dr pepper. Thanks." She was awkward like that throughout the whole meal. It was as if she was speaking to a script and asking questions but would then forget to listen to our answers. So, at this point I decided to run to heb for a few things. I was able to walk there, shop around, buy 4 different items and walk all the way back. And by that time, my boyfriend was just leaving the restaurant. I guess she took 10-15 minutes to come back to the table, and when she did come back, she still didn't have the check but instead dropped off the dr pepper (as discussed) and a slice of chocolate cake to-go, which was weird, since you know, we never ordered it. My boyfriend just gave his card and said just go run it -- I don't even care anymore. So, it turned out that we bought ourselves some chocolate cake. He was just so frustrated he didn't want to wait another 10 minutes for her to fix it. What a pain!! Sadly, my streak of good restaurant pickin' is over. Let's start with the service. The hostess walked us over to our table and found two walkers blocking one side. Rather than ask the elderly couple they belonged to if she could move them, she shrugged, put our menus down, and wandered off, leaving us to share the same side of the table. Not bad, but kind of awkward. Table service was slow enough that we'd decided on appetizer and entree and were doing the "Should we just get up and leave?" routine before we could even give our beverage order--nothing fancy, a Dr. Pepper and a water, not like we were asking for decantered angel tears--but unfortunately decided to stick it out once they arrived because, hey, maybe they were backed up. We ordered some chips and salsa and both decided to get the meatloaf. The chips and salsa arrived eventually and seemed fine--the chips were warm, the salsa bland but not bad--right up until the end, when we suddenly hit a patch of stale chips. I assume that's because they used stale chips, not because they took so long to arrive. But I could be convinced. The meatloaf tasted like it had been microwaved and the meat itself tasted just like the meatballs that come in canned food. Like Spaghetti-Os class meat. I don't want to dis Spaghetti-Os, cause I'm a fan, but when I'm paying restaurant prices, I'd like a little something better, maybe. The meatloaf was supposed to come with a special tomato sauce, which as far as I could tell was watered-down, canned tomato sauce. My meatloaf had a fry stuck to it, which I sincerely hope was one of mine that went wandering, not poor dishwashing. For my sides, I got corn--mushy, bland, tasted like something I'd pour out of a can and microwave--and French Fries. The French fries seemed to be the sort of frozen Ore-Ida fries you pick up at HEB with a bunch of pepper and seasoning salt on them. The wife got steamed vegetables that didn't taste like anything and mashed potatoes--red potatoes, not a big deal, but not indicated on the menu--that lurked under a thick, congealed gooey substance that may have been gravy. The menu also promised a fresh-baked roll for each of us that was never mentioned and never appeared. And the wife's Dr. Pepper was very obviously watered down. This isn't a "you'll get food poisoning" 1 star, this is more a "you'd do better at a chain restaurant" one star, since Applebee's could at least make sure the chips were fresh and we got all the menu items, whatever you might say about them. The sad irony is after all that, I was still hungry. It wasn't even filling, mediocre food. read more

It was hard and just didn't taste good at all. The order of fried pickles was like the okra, hard and and sitting for hours. I've always liked Cotton Patch. I grew up in Abilene and ate at that location many times. I was excited when they opened up one here in Round Rock. Overall the service has been consistently ok for us, minus one time we got seated in the far back corner and had to finally flag someone down to take our order because apparently we were forgotten. That was a one time occurrence though. The last few visits however have had some food quality issues. My wife and I both noticed the food is coming out more salty than usual. Today I ordered a patty melt and it was so salty I almost sent it back, which is a big deal because I'm not one to ever send food back. Even the steamed veggies I requested were heavily salted as well. I know that I can be a little salt sensitive but honestly, I've had crap drive through fast food that didn't come out as salty as this was. On a previous visit I had the same issue with a chopped steak dish as well as a chicken fried chicken. Overall we still are fans of the place. I'd hate to stop going to Cotton Patch after years of enjoying the food there. Will probably give it a few more visits to see how it goes. read more

We had takeout tonight. Called it in and they told me it would be 20 mins and they were on time, although the place was packed around 6 pm. The meat loaf was good the sweet potato fries were a little soggy and the Mac and chees was average. The child's plate had good portions. Steak fingers were crunchy, mashed potatoes were chunky but needed flavor and the green beans were average. I placed an order for curbside pickup and after I waited for 30 minutes and the guy who was running the curbside came by twice to take my name, my order was finally brought out. When I got home I realized that a couple of things were missing from my order, so I called the restaurant and asked to talk to a manager. I explained the situation to her and all she said was that it was because they were busy with all of all of their third party delivery orders. My husband had to go back up and get what was missing. I am always passing this place and decided to come here after getting coupons in the mail and a friend telling me she though it was great after eating their two times. I didn't use the coupons cause that would have been alot of food for one person and not sure if the place was as great as I heard. Truthfully I am very disappointed and was wondering if I should give this place a 2 star for the food but have decided with 3 stars and will come back here and try a new entree. If for the second time and I will do a review I don't like it I may give up on this place or dine in and ask my server if this is how its suppose to taste. I ordered to go however was able to experience what it was like if I dined in. The place is very clean. All the servers I met were all smiling and in a good mood. This place seems to be very over staffed but thats good that means you will always have attention when you dine in or helped when you walk through the door. I do believe my food is suppose to taste like it looked cause the server opened my food and showed me that I had all that I ordered and took the time to explain what was what and she didn't say anything about how over seasoned and slightly burnt it looked. I got the Grilled Cajun Duo which is featured on the front cover of the menu and the coupons so I thought this was the deal looked yummy in the picture to.... but sadly thats just a picture. My shrimp was a bit on the burnt side and the season on my tilapia was burnt so had a weird salty burnt taste to it. The crawfish sauce had the whole entire crawfish in it not bits of it so that was cool. I wonder if the rolls thats complementary with my meal I believe are suppose to be burnt? We have been searching for a good chicken fried steak since my mother-in-law moved here a month ago. Like, trying a new place every other night searching. Tonight, we finally found it! And the rest of the family found food they liked too. The server, Lynessia, was awesome! She brought us extra gravy, extra butter, more delicious rolls, ice cream for the peach cobbler on the side... all with a fun attitude. I asked her what nights she works, because we're definitely sitting where she'll be our server (hope she's ok with that!).
