The Baron (Roast Beef)
Sarah L.

I recently visited Counter Service when it announced the option to buy a mini version of their sandwiches! As I looked through the menu on the kiosks in the restaurant, I was a little disappointed there was no option substitutions if you wanted to remove something (I.e. horseradish mayo from the baron instead of ranch). The prices were honestly pretty high too, $13 for a sandwich that didn't contain much meat and was the size of my hand was shocking to see but I'm happy I tried it. The Baron was surprisingly an amazing sandwich which is why I rated it four stars. I don't think I would be a regular when lenwich is across the street and the price to meat ratio is a lot better, but if I'm craving a roast beef sandwich, I would definitely come back to counter service for that!

Green Goddess Chicken Club

First time trying this place and it was clean with friendly service. The sandwiches aren't as big as other sandwich shops nearby but the quality is definitely better.

Counter Service is a sandwich shop/chain started by the team behind Chipotle. They pride themselves of their fresh ingredients and how they make everything in house. I got to try the new steak and mushroom melt which was really tasty! The steak and melty cheese were well seasoned with their mayo and other sauces, and overall a great classic combo. I did taste the mushrooms but wish it was more prominent in the sandwich. I'm typically not a huge fan of banana peppers but their grilled version worked in the sandwich! It brought a little bit of sweetness in the midst of the meat and cheese. Next time I really want to try the green goddess chicken club and the gigante. I got myself a sweet treat with the brown butter chocolate chip cookie and it was fire! The cookie dough part itself was good, but the dark chocolate was better! Enjoyed the chew, crisp, chocolate, and dash of salt. Definitely want to try the sugar cookie because it has tahini and a bunch of sesame on top! This location has 3 kiosks for you to order from; it was pretty easy to navigate. There was some table/booth seating in the back. There is a screen that shows the status of orders. Food came out quick during lunch time on a weekday. FYI they don't have the hospital staff discount like many of the restaurants in the area but they are working on it!

BBQ Pork

Got the bbq pork sandwich and it was delicious - the bread was so fresh - crunchy on the outside and soft in the inside. Quick and friendly service and lots of places to sit.

Counter Service is a very nice addition to the neighborhood. They're serving up tasty sandwiches. Clean open kitchen. Mostly take out with small seating area. Limited menu serving up quality ingredients with tasty results. Had the Baron (roast beef) and it was good, the beef was well done would have liked it rare as pics on the menu and it lacked horseradish flavor. High quality food, yes. Wallet friendly, no. But not many places are these days.

Popped in after we tried their amazing sugar cookies they were handing out during the marathon and so glad we did! Cute ambiance designed like a retro sandwich shop. Got their egg and cheese and their roast beef and both sandwiches were delicious, also got the monkey bread and pretzels which were really great as well! Will definitely be back!

The Diplomat. Shockingly sparse insides

I ordered The Diplomat. It cost me over $15. I finished the sandwich in only 6 bites. Overpriced and underwhelming.

I got the diplomat. Pretty good sandwich, unlike anything I've had before. The bread was fresh and delicious. Very small and pricey but otherwise good.

I've been clamoring - CLAMORING - for a place like this in the Upper East Side. Most Asian…read morerestaurants in this neighborhood are fancy sit-downs, so it was exciting to see a quick, casual stop for Asian "finger food" (for a lack of better word) within my vicinity. Joju specializes in modern Vietnamese cuisine, serving meals like bahn mi, loaded fries, and rice meals. The menu recently added soy garlic wings, and since I am a fiend for Asian-style fried chicken, I of course had to have it. While all of the beverages looked tempting, especially their non-alcoholic soju refreshers, I needed caffeine to offset the afternoon slump that was about to follow, so I ordered a Vietnamese coffee. The wings were huge! It was notably crunchy, saucy, and juicy. There was a decent skin to meat ratio, (I so hate biting into a mouthful of breading), and the meal came out piping hot. It was clear the chicken had been fried per order. Those who know me know that I can't live without rice and would eat it with almost any meal, including fried chicken, so I did request it on the side, although the wings don't come with it. The man who took my order did me a solid and served it with mine, anyway. Good lad! I've been wanting to try Vietnamese coffee for a while now, and it was everything I imagined it would be. Sweet with a bitter backend - but not too bitter! I'm still new to coffee, and I pucker up at anything too intense. This was just right. My meal at Joju satisfied me, mind, body, and soul. I hope it is here to stay, and I hope that a shop like this is a catalyst for other quick Asian food stops to follow. Korean and Filipino restaurants - I'll be waiting!

I can't emphasize how excited I am for them to be here, bringing one of our best neighborhood bites to a new neighborhood which desperately needs more affordable and diversified options. This modern Vietnamese sandwich spot offers banh mi inspired by other East and Southeast Asian flavors. I personally like reaching for their regular banh mi and their lemongrass chicken banh mi. You would be remiss if you didn't get the banh mi or kimchi fries, and their monster rolls which are a newer creation but are essentially giant lumpia with any and all of the sauces they have available. Another plus is that they have pretty creative drinks, like their refreshers and virgin mojitos, for a nice little drink that isn't too calorie-dense depending on what you get. Welcome to the neighborhood Joju and I wish you all the success.

Lyly tries to bring a modern twist to traditional Vietnamese cuisine UES Pho (3/5): They are known for their 5-spice smoky short rib pho, but personally, I didn't love the smoky flavor profile in the broth. The short rib itself was also overcooked, leaving the meat a bit tough and rough. On the bright side, I ordered an extra side of brisket and enjoyed that much more than the short rib. The broth overall lacked a deep, rich beef flavor. Saigon Shaking Beef (4.25/5): The standout dish of the night. The beef was absolutely delicious and perfectly flavored, though pairing it with arugula felt a little odd. Beef Wrapped Betel Leaf (3.5/5): This was just okay. It felt unique conceptually, but the flavor profile was pretty average

Took my sandwich to go. Got home and wondered if I ordered a Cubano or a sandwich. Cubano's are pressed. So they are thin. This wasn't. Pork is shredded. Huge piece of ham and a huge drizzle of mustard. Tried to relayer everything but it was messy. Taste was ok but it was too overwhelming. Fries were tasty. I will go back to try one of the heroes they have. Won't be ordering the Cubano.

There was a line, of course, there always is, and the wait was longer than what we were willing to endure for fare as simple and as common as a sandwich. It was worth the 20-minute wait. We ordered the Milano special, packed with cold meats, tomatoes, pickled peppers, cheese, and lettuce between two soft sesame rolls. It looked magnificent. It tasted magnificent. There are a few locations, but I decided to visit this one because it was the most convenient for getting to and from home. I got there around 7:00 PM, which felt a little close to closing time since Google said they close at 9:00 PM, but it wasn't busy at all. In fact, I was only the third customer to place an order. I ordered the La Summer sandwich and added pesto. After sitting down and taking my first bite, I immediately understood the hype. Without a doubt, this is one of the best sandwiches I've had in a very long time. I'm not even a huge sandwich person when it comes to subs and deli meats, but everything tasted incredibly fresh. The ingredients paired together perfectly, and you could still taste each one individually. The only thing I'd change next time is the meat. I had no idea prosciutto was a type of ham, but honestly, it didn't even taste like ham to me. It was sliced paper-thin, slightly salty, and worked surprisingly well with everything else. Next time, though, I'll probably add salami just to see how it compares. Overall, this sandwich was a solid 10/10, and I will absolutely be back--whether it's to try a different sandwich or, if we're being honest, order the exact same one again with salami added. I will say it's on the expensive side, but that's New York City for you. Apparently, all of the ingredients are flown in from Italy. After tax and tip, I paid a whopping $28 for a single sandwich. That said, it was incredibly filling and definitely kept me satisfied. The workers were also really nice and accommodating, and the indoor seating was beautiful. The atmosphere felt like a fancy Italian café, complete with couches and artwork throughout the space.
