I've been a customer of Cloud 9 for a while, not a constant one, but recently I've gone more often since my youngest 9 year old son discovered their bacon cheese croissants. After visiting the doctor's office I decided to treat my son to some Cloud 9 on 08/12/22. We ended up ordering 2 croissants, 1 cake pop, 1 coffee cake muffin (this is important to the story) & 2 drinks for almost $30. That is definitely a little steep, but I reminded myself I was supporting small local businesses and plus the ambience and the more personal attention you get as opposed to a big chain coffee place like Starbucks. So we sat down at a table. One girl brought out our drinks, then the second heavy set girl brought our pastries in three different baggies. I kept the cake pop & the coffee cake baggies and handed my son the baggie with the croissants. I didn't go through his baggie to see how many croissants were in there. After a few minutes later the other girl came by the table and said, "Here's your other croissant," and placed the baggie on our table. About 5 minutes after that the girl that had last been to our table came over and asked if she had given us an extra croissant. I looked over at my son and asked him how many croissants were in the first bag. He said one. So looked over the girl and told her we had ordered two. So she walked away. After another 5 minutes the heavy set girl stomped her way to our table to tell me that she had given me an extra croissant. I turn to my son and asked him again how many croissants had been in the 1st baggie, he seem confused and nervous and he looked at me nervously and said, "Two??" To which that girl snatched the extra baggie off our table!!!! We finished our pastries and got the heck out of there. As we were leaving the two workers behind the counter completely looked in the opposite direction and completely ignored us. We got no have a nice day, nor thank you for coming. Nothing. They acted as if I had try to rip them off and try to steal from them. I felt so harassed over a $4 croissant. I felt harassed over their mistake, over their lack of communication between themselves. Also with Covid going on how would you warm a pastry serve to a table then take it away to resale it to someone else?? Doesn't sound very sanitary to me. Now does it?? Supporting small businesses usually means you end up paying more, but it's usually justified by the experience that you get as opposed to a big chained place. Unfortunately not this time. At the time of my visit the only sugar alternative options were stevia and honey, maybe that has changed. As for the "get 3 shots be charged for 4" issue and response; I totally agree your coffee is a great quality and say so in my first review. My issue however is paying for more product then I receive. I have no problem paying for 3 individual shots or even a double and an added shot. But asking your customer to pay for 4 shots but only give them 3 is not ok. I understand how espresso machines work and they have the ability to pour either a single or double shot (clearly proven by your employees offer to give me a triple shot) again my issue lies in the charge. I would have gladly paid for an extra shot to make my order a triple but am not ok with paying for 4 and only receiving 3. read more

So a couple of things first, I have been to this coffee shop many times before today and came back to see how things were to find they still were the same as I left. Now a lot of what I'm going to say isn't entirely the shops fault but it is something readers should note when visiting this establishment. 1. Parking Parking is an absolute NIGHTMARE! To my people who are just trying to grab a coffee and go, it's an absolute headache to find a parking and the spaces are SO TINY. I usually spend my time circling the lot for a good 10 minutes trying to find a space. At this point is the coffee worth the headache of trying to find a spot? I wish they had their own actual shop or coffee truck to visit than be in a building with other businesses. 2. Service The service is a hit and miss. They aren't rude but sometimes, like today, they just don't interact. They stare at you without saying a word and they talk to their coworkers while you're ordering which is a bit annoying. A "Hey there! What can I get you?" would be nice. 3. Ambiance Now for my fellow students, like myself, do not come here to study! Most of the time the place is packed with moms and kids running around. It's an open environment so I can't get mad at that but if you're lookin for a more quiet place to do homework, you're better off going to a Starbucks or other coffee shop. This is my 12'th time trying to do homework at this place and it's always packed with children everywhere. 4. Drinks The drinks are great! Is it worth the headache of finding a parking spot and dealing with screaming kids? Hm sometimes yea depending on the day lol the drinks get out really fast as well! Bottom line, I do recommend this place as a grab and go bc the drinks are great but service and atmosphere, is just a miss for me. read more

I will definitely will get one for myself next time. My dad got the black and white. He said it was one of the best coffees he's ever had. He's had a lot of coffee in his years. So I can't buy anything without my phone? I love this place and would stopped by from time to time and get my caffeine fixed. So today I happened to be in the area and I really wanted to tryout the special drinks or dessert. I heard about the theme they were having "Harry Potter". I have some cash with me, but I left my phone. There was a sign by the side door that stated that we use the main door instead. So I went in, the ambiance was different than normal - of course, it's the Harry Potter week! There were a couple by the counter waiting for their order. I just stood and waited for one of the staff/barista to greet me or acknowledge me. I saw a sign that said welcome, please take a seat in any open chairs or table, scan the QR code to place your order. Well, maybe I can still order something and they'll let me without using my phone. Finally the barista noticed that I was standing waiting and greeted me and asked me if I had ordered. I said no I haven't. Then she told me to take a seat and place my order by scanning the QR code. I said I don't have my phone with me. She said we are doing it that way this week. I found out about this new third wave coffee trailer from a coworker and immediately made plans to stop by. Bakersfield is bringing in some great local businesses as of late, and Cloud Nine doesn't disappoint. The trailer is a converted camping trailer. Gone are the golden oak and pastel paint, and in its place is a sleek and chic coffee trailer complete with subway tile, succulents, and gleaming white counters. The gold accents top off the look. The end result is a trailer that looks like it stepped off the pages of Sunset magazine. Beyond the trailer, patrons can find a simple, but comprehensive, list of coffee beverages. The typical espresso based drinks are offered, as well as a few iced teas. The standouts are the drinks that dare to go beyond basic caramel and mocha. On my visit I tried the coffee julep- an iced espresso beverage with mint and basil. It was sweet and creamy, and the basil left a subtle punchiness that I didn't know I'd been missing in coffee drinks. It's a winner for sure, and something I foresee will be a signature, and very popular, drink for this business. While we didn't pick up any eats on our visit, they offered a variety from local bake shop Gimmee Some Sugar, furthering the list of coffee/bakery partnerships now occurring throughout town. Service was pleasant, though for truly 5 stars I'd recommend they amend their menu with a bit more description. My husband's drink (the Cloudnine iced coffee) was too sweet for him, and he admitted a description on the menu may have helped him realize it wasn't the drink for him. I ordered a lavender latte with coconut milk. Lavender is really hit or miss for a lot of coffee places -- either not enough, too sweet, or fake tasting. Cloud 9's is very, very sweet and a little too heavy on the syrup and I couldn't taste any of the espresso. It could be because they use a sweetened coconut milk (but I love the option!) but I think I'll try another flavor next time. They had a pretty nice selection of pastries, but I hope they have some savory options in the future. read more

This is probably my favorite coffee spot in Bakersfield. They just opened the brick and mortar store in the Petroleum Club building and it's beautiful and relaxing. The drinks range from lattes to some original coffee concoctions (cloudine!) that are unique and tasty as well as tea options and milk choices. Morgan, the owner, is as sweet and she is beautiful and Irene, a barista, is so nice. She took the time to explain their specialty drinks and the customize one for me. I would give this place a 5 star because it deserves it; however, I knocked out a star for several reasons. This was my first time here and I surely do not fit the stereotypical customers at this location. As in, I'm not a Caucasian person. I was not immediately greeted like the other customers were. I let the woman behind the counter know that this was my first time there. She said "okay." I was expecting an enthusiastic "welcome!" I asked her if she had vegan pastries and what alternative milk she has. I didn't understand the jar deposit of 50 cents and had to ask the manager later who explained it better. A signage about that mission and purpose would be helpful. I do like their idea of eliminating waste and the glass jar is a great idea. But it would be helpful if you explain or have it written somewhere so people understand and can be more appreciative about it. I ordered the Andes mint latte with almond milk and my friend got the iced salted caramel. We liked our drink but it wasn't the greatest. The interior of this location is great. I like the decor and vibe. There's outdoor seating as well. I got lost finding this place. Even when I called the employee who answered the phone didn't know where it is. I'd go back again, not anytime soon, maybe with blonde hair and they'll treat me better. Edit: I'm editing to acknowledge that the owner was kind enough to check in with me and address my experience. I love this coffee shop! Not only do they make amazing coffee, but they are also environmentally friendly. You bring your own jar and or cup and you get a discount. If you don't have a jar you pay 25 cents and when you bring it back you get your 25 cents back. Or you can buy one of the ones they have with their logo on it.
