Barley & Smoke might be one of the coolest hidden gems we've found in Arizona. We have been to the…read morebar it's tucked inside of so many times and had NO idea this place was even there. You walk through and suddenly you're sitting at a gorgeous little bar literally IN THE KITCHEN, watching everything happen right in front of you. The entire experience feels intimate, elevated and completely unexpected. The vibe was incredible. Instrumental hip hop playing in the background, moody lighting, amazing cocktails, incredible food, and a front row seat to the kitchen. It somehow feels upscale without feeling stuffy. The oysters, prawns, bone marrow, cocktails, and beignets - everything we tried was so good, but the atmosphere is what really made it. It feels like you've been let in on a secret. Such a cool experience and absolutely somewhere we will be going back to. 10/10 for food, cocktails, music and one of the best vibes we've found.

It's a little moody w/ dim lighting and has a cool throwback feel to another era. My bestie & I ordered Old Fashioneds. They were good, although they were a bit on the light-pour side. I ordered the Wagyu meatballs, and they were absolutely delicious. My hubs and the rest of the table ordered the burger. They enjoyed them, but fair warning: the burger has a bit of a kick! The gentleman spinning vinyl for the evening had an amazing playlist. Each song seemed better than the one before. Overall, it was a fun atmosphere, great music, and a really enjoyable night out!

I swear to God, this is such an odd place! The dichotomy between old and young still perplexes me…read more The majority of the clientele is elderly....think 80+. The majority of the employees (the servers, at least) are 25 and under. Plus, this place gives off Greek restaurant vibes, like the kind where you can get a gyro, spaghetti, or chow mein all in the same place: jack of all, master of none. You think it's all going to be tasteless food, but you would be oh so wrong. Mom and dad (80+, but with it) ordered liver and onions, I got an open faced turkey sandwich, and hubs got country fried sirloin. Everyone agreed that their food was delicious. I can't speak to the others, but for me, the turkey was moist, not dry, and the gravy (which they drenched over my turkey without asking, thank you very much) had really good seasoning to it...not overly peppery like at most places. The mashed potatoes were soft, not chunky, my side of corn was very buttery and NOT served in a bowl of corn water, and my cranberries were from a can (THE BEST KIND, and yes I WILL FIGHT YOU on this). We all ordered pie for dessert and I should have went with everyone else and gotten Key Lime, but I chose cherry. It wasn't the greatest of flavor as, even though there were real cherries in it, it was predominantly cherry flavored goo. Overall, I was pleasantly surprised, and I would come here again. But only with my parents, because I think hubs and I were the only people under 60, lol. 10/2026

Our waiter was amazingly effusive and very good at upselling - though I didn't bite at the upsell, I did get a nice mango margarita, which really hit the spot! You can see a pic of it below. But this man was hungry, I ordered a combo plate. It had a beef taco, a tostada, and an enchilada. With just a little bit of rice thrown in for good measure. OK - now here's the thing. Was the food any good? Was the ambience of the restaurant adequate for the price point? Yes and yes! Gotta say I was impressed. And a special shout out to the waiter, who gladly took a picture of us while we were chowing down our meal! Needless to say the waiter made all the difference, frankly - the service was very impressive and the food was pretty darn good too. Oh, I forgot to mention the chips and salsa? Very garlic forward and a nice little spicy hit and was absolute perfection! The funny part of it is that this place was right across the field from where the Seattle Mariners do their spring training - I had brought my mom here, probably 25 years ago as she was a major Mariners fan and wanted to see this place. Of course the restaurant wasn't across the street back then! But what a cool location and what a nice restaurant. Definitely will return when I'm back in the Phoenix area!
