I've been coming here for years every time I'm in the cape and their food is amazing. I usually order the broiled haddock which comes with two sides. The haddock basically melts in your mouth. The staff was very pleasant and the food came out at a perfect time. read more

Wish there was an option for zero stars.... Food was utterly vile. I ordered the meatloaf& when it was served I thought they had the wrong order as it resembled NOTHING like any meatloaf I've ever seen. It was kind of a pasty gold color cut into a 2" x 6" slab. My daughter commented that it looked like cat food. The texture was like that of cat food for sure. Waitress never returned to check on us; had to flag down another server. When I told the server that I was sorry but I just could not eat the meatloaf she said " everyone else loves our meatloaf" ,a totally rude & unprofessional comment. Well that may be as the average age of their clientele is 80 and you need no teeth to eat it. My daughter had a club sandwich which was served with the bacon half cooked, half raw. My granddaughter had a hot dog that was curved and boiled , totally unappetizing . She didn't even touch it. My daughter& I were both professional chefs so it's not like we don't know our arses from a hole in the ground. Oh yeah while we were sitting there an order of fish went by and it reeked to high heaven. Fish should NEVER smell! Really sorry that we didn't go to the Pickle Jar or anywhere else for that matter! Great food. I got one of the specials (2 eggs scrambled, bacon, and a homemade blueberry muffin grilled). The muffin was the best. Service was fast and exceptional. I don't understand the positive reviews here. The food is mediocre at best. The fish chowder is edible, has a nice creamy flavor, but it's watery with not much fish. Fried clam roll and fish chowder (a cup) combo special for $19.99 is ridiculous. A handful of soggy, chewy clams and a cup of soup was not what I had in mind. I will say the waitress was charming, friendly, and helpful but other than that it was a great disappointment. read more

We come through occasionally on the way to the island and actually plan our trips to make time for this joy of a place. The service is fast and super friendly. The food cannot be beat. We came around 2pm on a cloudy Sunday July afternoon. There were roughly 12 employees inside readying the place for the dinner crowd. We got our soft drinks as ordered fast but, alas, our simple tossed salad and crab cake took at least 25 minutes to arrive at our table. Every other diner in the restaurant was either on their way out or already served, so we were perplexed as to why a salad (already probably pre-made) and a heated up crab cake would take so long. The service didn't deserve the 20% tip we gave. The food is decent and we like their crab cakes a lot (repeat customers), but not sure we'd choose Crabapple's next time. Even the elegant Flying Bridge is a more attentive, faster lunch time choice. read more

We decided to try this place for dinner on Saturday of labor day weekend as many other recommended restaurants we visited or call you either need a reservation or have over 1 hour wait... Let me tell you we got surprise with the meal as it was OUTSTANDING!!! The waitress was very nice they serve large portions too everything was delicious! Home made pies yumm! We stayed at one of the local hotel and went back the next day for their breakfast! Oh boy... Irish Benedict was to die for!!! I'll definately return & recommend to friends & family. :) read more

we just ate at crabapple's The place was empty, the waitress Erin was absent I asked her 4 times for lemon for my water because the chlorine was awful,a never got it I had to go to the counter to ask some else to give me some. I am glad we didn't order any other drink it would have been ruined by the chlorine When our meal was served we asked for more tartar sauce she didn't bring it until we were almost done. We asked someone else It was watery and lacked flavor and at 3.95 a cup it was not worth it. We asked how much the fried clams were and she said $20. so we had the seafood platter, at $18.99 it was a bargain. Then she charged us $19.99. I have been in the restaurant business for most of my life and would have fired her on the spot. We were disappointed. The food was great, the price was acceptable--comparable with other restaurants in the area of their reputation. But the service was very disappointing. The restaurant was NOT busy, there were plenty open tables. We were seated right away. But our server took nearly five minutes to take our drink order. And after serving our lunch, she didn't return to offer drink refills (actually we had to flag down the hostess to get drink refills--which the hostess, not the server, brought to the table). Our server did not return to the table to see if there were any other needs or to ask how our meal was. The next time she came to the table was to ask if we wanted the check (and that was well after everyone was completely done eating). I'm going to start out by stating I absolutely never go out of my way to right reviews, EVER! (Until Now) But on this occasion, I feel an obligation to let everyone know the scars I'm going to carry for some time to come. That being said, let me just start by saying this was the thee ABSOLUTE worst dinning experience I have ever had...if it wasn't for the friendly waitress who acknowledge she had six children at home to feed, I would have walked right out in the middle of my meal. After 45 minutes I had to go to the kitchen and ask for my food (this is after four tables around us, who got there 15-20 minutes after we had, already received their meals.) My friend got the fish taco's to remind her of her SoCal days; what appeared was a gigantic white plate with two tiny "McDonald" style burritos on it, that's it! (more like SoSad). I was more daring, tried the special, Haddock Caponata. There wasn't any visible haddock in the dish and I literally scooped a good 6oz of cheese off the top. The two bites I did manage to get into my mouth I had wash it down with my Bloody Mary..."Check Please!" $74 meal = two bites?!..My friend could only stomach 1 of her "fish tacos"...and that's just the food, now on to the environment. It's a very small, quaint enclosure, which I actually prefer, however not so much when some lady has her LV duffle in the middle of the aisle and I trip over it (not once, but twice) and I inform the wait staff and still nothing is done. The women did not even acknowledge the fact that it happened (again, not once, but twice)...too busy staring at her 3 Karats. No bread for the 45 wait, even though others had received it, and kitchen was full of 15-17 year olds dressed quite literally in Celtics Jerseys...pretty sure that's a health code violation boys. Oh, and BTW I have worked on the other side in all aspects of restaurants , so I know you guys can do a hell of a lot better! The only real regret of mine was not having my phone out, snapping shots of this nightmare, so I could show everyone...in this case 1 picture would be worth all these words (not quite a 1000, but getting close!) read more

After driving by Crabapple's for many years, we decided to give it a try based on so many great reviews. We had a friend visiting who has a wheat allergy. Our waitress was beyond helpful in checking how one dish was prepared and making substitutions to another dish to accommodate his needs. That in itself would encourage me to return, but the fact that the food was OUTSTANDING was the clincher. Our friend had seared scallops with "customized" sides; my husband had the surf 'n' turf (steak tips, crab cake and shrimp) and I had a fish sandwich. All were excellent. My husband also had the fish chowder - definitely an award winner! Thank you, Crabapple's. We'll be back. read more

Friday night we went to Crabapples for dinner. We began with the ubiquitous bread plate, warm, fresh & yummie, and moved along to the Calamari appetizer, Ahi Tuna with grilled Shrimp, breaded broiled Haddock, and multi-berry pie. We had been regulars at David's breakfast, which pre-dated Crabapples. Soon after Crabapples opened my bride was handed a bowl of fish chowder which dribbled down the front of her scarf and on to her lap. Accidents happen. The response of the server was one of frustration and a curt comment: "get it cleaned, we will pay." We never returned until now. We asked for the Ahi Tuna, also know a Yellowfin Tuna from the waters off the coast of Hawaii, and Shrimp to be prepared rare. Both were well done. For our tastes, then Tuna is thoroughly cooked it's no good. It was a large, thick cut of fish and we were surprised that it was not dry and delicious. I felt the Haddock was too thickly breaded but here again, moist and delicious. Our high satisfaction level with the entrées convinced us that the chef is highly skilled and the Crabapple way of cooking is just fine. The homemade pie was excellent. The wisdom behind the flaky, tasty crust seemed to be a wonderfully constrained use of sugar. Bill came to $55.20 with tip. Our server was efficient and friendly. The parking lot was cramped. I wonder when we will next return. I hope soon. read more

The single worst restaurant in all of Cape Cod and we've been coming here for 40 years. Went fri nite 8/5/16 and just horrible. The place is a little more than an old coffee shop serving cheap diner fare, but that's not the problem. The service is the problem and its horrendous! Resonates from the older lady who appears to be owner, right down to the teenage staff that works there They obviously cater to the locals (who must write for them their good reviews) as that was much of who was there, but they advertise heavily for the tourist dollars. To get those dollars, They will lie to you about the wait times. We were told 10 mins for a table, but it turned out to be a half hour and they sat us high top in the entry foyer. Food was greasy, and the "chowda" the brag about was all potato and from a can. Real crap and and we waited way too long for it as well. When the meal was over, the waitress never came back . We could have walked out not paying if we were that type, but we went to the register to see if we could find someone to pay the bill to. They obviously are tired of being in business , or something, but the place just plain sucks. We own a second home here and added it to the "do not go unless you're dying" list. They got us this time, but we'll get em back passing the word to all who we know. read more
