We got seated quickly enough and our waitress was not only quick but helpful and chatty. In customer service, you talk to people. Her name was Kat and though she said she works mainly evenings, she was great. Food was ok. I heard the hype and wanted to try it out, too. My food was warm and I prefer it hot. It was also a bit bland. Coffee was ok and I am definitely a coffee drinker. The pancakes were great and that's pretty much it for the food. But wanted to post about it and give Kat kudos for being such a hard worker and also being a great server. At the check out stand, girl there wasn't too friendly. More mechanical. Asked about how the chicken and dumplings were, waitress recommended then said they were popular. Their Chicken and dumplings was like lasagna pasta noodles and canned gravy and nothing else. I barely ate it. It was pretty gross. I guess i paid for the 2 biscuits and side i got which were not even good either but edible. Waitress never came to offer refill or discount the meal. read more

First time trying this location.. I love the ambiance of a Cracker Barrel it always feels like home. Walking into the general store with a classic vintage look of Americana. Some store areas are much bigger than this location but still a look into our past. Our server was also a fan of Cracker Barrel talking about the different locations. She also shared what is her favorite entrees and side dishes. We tried the 3 item sampler the fried chicken, chicken dumplings and the meatloaf with green beans, steak fries and potato casserole. Everything was delicious way enough for two! The fried chicken was moist and crispy skin, the dumplings were soft and the gravy was delicious reminded me of chicken pot pie, the meatloaf was moist and delicious!! My family and I have always loved Cracker Barrel! But on Easter we stopped and picked up food.....it was terrible! One of the best things they have ... hash brown casserole - It was dry and like it sat there all day. My son's food was half good, it was burnt. Chicken and dumplings hardly had any chicken. Everything was cold. We have eaten at the Bakersfield one a few times and it had been good. So I pray this time was a fluke and they had a busy holiday day! My first time here and it was wonderful. Loved the entrance with all the holiday decorations uuugh love it!! Food was delicious i got the sampler it had meatloaf, breaded chicken breast for side i chose green beans and fries. My family ordered fried chicken. Meatloaf and chicken pot pie. everyone loved it soo yummy. Me and my parents came to this restaurant for the first time yesterday. The food was amazing!!! It was the best breakfast I've ever had. We all literally ate everything on our plates which never happens. Also the servers were kind and fun. The environment was wholesome. It put me in the best mood for the rest of the day. We've been customers of this wonderful nationwide chain for many years now and we were shocked at what we experienced here. We were greeted by hostess who sat us in a small table between several full tables which seemed normal. We needed to get our diabetic mom some food rather promptly and waited and waited and no waiter or waitress for over 20 minutes so we were forced to walk out and go and get something fast somewhere else. Got in late and stayed in the lot in my tiny camper van and rolled into the restaurant this morning for breakfast. My service dog was welcomed and my peach pancakes were out of this world. Not embarrassed at all I licked the plate clean. The service from Jocelyn was even better. She was a ray of sunshine. Left more tip than bill for this wonderful experience. The chicken fried chicken was very crispy and very juicy. All the food is okay nothing special and the fried apples were still a little hard. The service is hit and miss but the place is so busy I kind of felt bad for asking for things. It's very loud and very crowded so don't expect a quiet meal. read more

Below average service and poor food quality. Ordered the steak breakfast and was served meat that was tasteless. The texture was rubbery, a sign of low grade. Ok honestly I was sooooooo excited to come here and it was just ok. The food wasn't amazing with the exception of the Coca Cola cake. That was so decadent and yummy. I didn't expect it to be warm and served with ice cream - YUM! Our server was very nice and attentive. I loved the little store on site! Honestly it's a fun place to visit, but I for some reason expected this to be so delicious and it's ultimately diner food. It seems like they just made the patty with just ground beef and absolutely no seasonings. The fries were dry and tough as though they had been sitting under a heat lamp for quite some time. Don't touch the salt and pepper shakers after you've washed your hands already. Ours shakers had a thick layer of sticky grease on them and had crumbs stuck all over. Also, the fork in my place setting had some nasties stuck to it(see pic). I dont know why so many people eat here and are willing to spend $15 on less than a dollar worth of breakfast foods. read more

First time at Cracker Barrel. The store was very cute. The service was very good! The food was meh . I really don't get what the hipe is all about. Husband ordered the BBQ ribs, they were very dry, coleslaw and French fries were ok, he didn't finish his plate. I ordered the New York steak and shrimp, cook medium term, the meat was hard like rubber, I couldn't finish eating it because it was too hard. We fell in love with Cracker Barrel in Ohio and were happy to see that there were restaurants closer to us! I really like the country music, the decor, and the rocking chairs out front. I also like the shop that connects to the restaurant- it's perfect for some before or after meal shopping! We generally enjoy our experiences at Cracker Barrel restaurants and the rating has been a 4 for us on the past. The food had always been tasty. This particular location was "just ok." Some of the dishes were good, some were not so good. I know that it hasn't satisfied me when I feel like I need to eat something sweet immediately after, and that is what happened here. The cheesy bacon hash brown casserole and the broccoli were the best items during this visit. We liked the fried apples, but the skins were left on and that was kind of a bummer. The chicken and dumplins was not as flavorful as I would have liked. The cornbread was not enjoyable, even with butter. The hostess and the cashier in the store were good, but our server seemed "lost in translation." We will give Cracker Barrel a try again, but maybe not this one. read more

Now I've been to cracker barrel before first time I've ever been a cracker barrel was in Florida had a very good experience been to one in Florida twice went to one in Vegas twice The last time had a bad experience had a chicken and dumpling and macaroni and cheese and the macaroni and cheese was planted right in the middle of my chicken and dumplings and it was pretty bad so they gave me a gift certificate because it was bad so I decided to try out the one in Bakersfield since we have one in here in town well everything was fine and all that good stuff My waitress she was on point can't complain one bit about her she was cool on point kept our glasses filled and made sure we had everything we need took our order her name was Hope and if I go back it definitely would be for her but... the problem we had it took forever to get our food longer than normal a good 20 to 30 minutes Hope came out and told us a couple times sorry for taking a long time then the management came out and said sorry it was taking a long time and it finally got to us don't get me wrong it was hot now but it took longer than it should have other than that I would have probably gave them five stars but it just took a little long we got there before the rush hour so it's about I want to say about 4:00 4:15 so it wasn't quite rush out or 5:00 so they weren't real busy yet so I don't know what the problem was in the back so hopefully you know they'll get everything straight we made sure we didn't go the first week when they opened up so they had time to get there you know stuff situated and get their training done and all that so I don't know what the problem was in the back but other than that the customer service was on point it'll be a while before I go back If at all I'm crackle barreled out now that we got one here in Bakersfield it ain't no big deal anymore like I said hope she was on point she did a good job thank you very much It wasn't your fault that that the food took so long mind u the only reason why we went back because the Vegas cracker barrel screwed up that's why they gave us a gift card so Bakersfield field screwed up also go figure read more

So I've been to a lot of crackle barrels and this is not what chicken dumplings looks like or tastes like. This was a bowl of dough balls and pieces of boiled chicken. The ham was dry, thin old and so salty you could barley chew it. I absolutely love this place. I have been several times since they opened, we have always enjoyed or time there. We always seem to get the best waitresses as well. So friendly and always asking is there anything they can do or get. Yesterday was no exception our waitress was great. We went in for breakfast around 10;30. everything was great, but I noticed another waitress always side eying me and at one point she walked by and made some stank faces at me and the whole time I was there she made me feel so uncomfortable. I found out her name and was told it was Tiffany... I'm a little uncomfortable returning she was a little too scary. Hopefully I can return and enjoy. For our anniversary we decided to try Cracker Barrel, first the watermelon lemonade did not taste like watermelon at all it taste like vanilla lemonade not good at all, the chicken and dumplings were terrible, all the ones I've ever had , they had a chicken soup base and onion celery and carrots and chicken, theirs the dumplings were like biscuits not thin strips of dough, theres had no soup it was a jelly like chicken broth, three chunks of chicken, very salty too. We decided never go back. My husband had chicken and green beans they were not fresh or very small amounts. The chicken taste old and oily. Worse anniversary dinner ever. read more

Never been to a CB so thought I'd give this a shot. The building is large and welcoming, however once you step inside it seems a bit small. The store part occupies about half of the building, there are lots of neat and interesting gifts, Christmas items, apparel, candy, and drinks. Lots of "live laugh love" type things. My favorite items were the nostalgic type Christmas ornaments. We waited about 20 minutes in line just to get on the list, (for 3 adults) once our name and phone number were taken, it took about 10 minutes to get called up. The dining room occupies the second half of the building and it is quite cramped, they really tried stuffing as many tables in there as they possibly could! Our server took some time to greet us, they were friendly enough. Our orders were taken but it seemed like they were having some difficulty entering the order into the iPad looking thing. Orders arrived after about 25 minutes, our initial thoughts were the presentation was pretty horrible. Plates had small heaps of food with lots of empty plate in between. The potatoes literally shaped into the shape of the scoop they came from. The cheesecake pancakes were a little thin and tough and not very warm at all. One of our diners had ordered pancakes with regular syrup and fresh strawberries and were given plain pancakes-which took about 15 minutes to find someone (not our server) and they still brought the wrong syrup! The chicken fried steak was tiny and flavor was pretty bland and generic. That meal included biscuits and gravy which were not delivered and took another 15 minutes (not our server) to get someone to bring them. The coffee was weak, and our decaf drinkers never got refills because the server never came back until we were completely finished eating and they just dropped off the check. By the way, you pay your bill at the store part of the building. Maybe it's new store growing pains, but this is a chain, so I'm not sure how much "better" things can get. There where a lot of people waiting but we used their online check in to check in earlier so our 50 minute wait was actually only about 10 minutes by the time we got there. We spent the 10 minutes in their store. The service was friendly and the food was 4/5. The chicken and country fried steak where good but a little in the dry side this time around. Being from Cali. this restaurant has always been one of my favorites when we drove cross country because their food, service and everything was awesome...imagine my joy when I found out this one was FINALLY open...and they did not disappoint!!! Our party trickled in in twos and threes and our sweet waitress was so patient through it all...she was awesome in that she realized that we were headed to Sunday Evening Services and she did her best to get our food out hot and in enough time that we didn't have to eat and run...we were a large group yet she never lost her patience and her recommendations were spot on! I guess it's all new staff because this restaurant location is brand new & the food isn't the same at all! I ordered the Chicken & Dumplings & it taste like water. It was so watery that it kept spilling off the plastic plate that was delivered to my house. Also, the dumplings where so thin they kept falling off the fork & the chicken taste like water too!! Usually the dumplings are thicker, cut into squares, and has a medium thickness sauce/gravy. So disappointed in the quality of food compared to other Cracker Barrel's I've been too. This location needs teaching by another location. I've been to several different Cracker Barrel locations & the food here is NOT RIGHT! She was one of the best waitresses we have ever had and we dine out at least once a week. This is not my first Cracker Barrel. The food is the same where ever you go and sometimes that is comforting. Breakfast is solid. This location has been open a few months and there are still growing pains. Things like dropping your knife and never replacing it. Letting people smoke by the outside chairs. Messing up your order and expecting you to be ok with it. Long waiting times for drinks, refills, food, etc. The parking lot fills up fast and sitting outside is Very noisy from 99 and California traffic. The indoor shop is cute and I always enjoy browsing. So i have been to Cracker Barrel restraunts in the past. Arizona and New Mexico. It was a couple decades ago and had great experiences. When i heard Bakersfield was getting one i was kinda excited. I know new places take time to shake out the problems so we gave it close to 6 months to try the first time. The food was mediocre at best. Not bad per se but just not as good as i remember. Didn't have the same homemade feel from visits elsewhere. Again we thought to give it time and try again. We did and went this past weekend. It wasn't crowded and we were seated right away. Drinks ordered and brought out fast. Server was pleasant and showed confidence. Asked if we had questions and told us about the new menu items. We settled on our choices. Wife ordered fish and chips with a side of fried okra. I ordered the 8 oz hamburger steak smothered in gravy and grilled onions with mashed potatoes. Plates came out quick. Her fish was two large filets and come with hush puppies. The fish was dry and flavorless she said. The okra was a packaged product and had a flavor that was off putting. She said the best thing in her plate was the hush puppies and fries. My hamburger "steak" was a preformed hamburger patty. Not sure why the server asked how i wanted it cooked because i ordered it medium and it was so thin it was cooked to over well done. The gravy and grilled onions definitely improved the flavor, as the "steak" was flavorless and over done. The mashed potato's was literally the equivalent of 4 spoons full. They had a great flavor but there was not near a full serving in my opinion. The meal came with biscuits and butter. Those were the star of the table. The staff were great and service was good but as the food was not, i doubt we'll be going back ever again. read more

Yesterday we were lucky enough to finally get into Cracker Barrel without a wait. I went to school in Texas so I have eaten at Cracker Barrel many times. I am so happy we now have our own. One of the best things Cracker Barrel has is their biscuits. They are soft and buttery and melt in your mouth. They bring you a basket shortly after your drink order. I could eat them all day. We decided to order Chicken fried steak. My husband got corn and mashed potatoes and I got hash brown casserole fried okra and Mac and cheese. Everything was delicious. The service was fast and friendly. They have wonderful desserts so save room for cinnamon roll pie or maybe peach cobbler or pecan pie and cake. Cracker Barrel is a southern girls dream diner. We attended a private event tonight. We were immediately greeted at the door and checked in with frequently while we waited for our table. All of the staff was courteous and attentive. We started with the loaded hash brown casserole tots and they were amazing! Golden and slightly crispy on the outside with generously sprinkled bacon bits and cheese. I ordered the roast beef with mashed potatoes, broccoli, and Mac n cheese. The beef was so tender I didn't need a knife! Our oldest daughter ordered the chicken pot pie and it was so flavorful, it topped others she's had. Our son ordered the maple bacon grilled chicken, which he described as taking a bite out of sweet chicken wings. The food was great, but the service was superb. Multiple employees engaged our kids and showed them toys and trinkets. They did a great job engaging us and showing us around the shop to help us find something of interest.
