We used to go here all the time for years and they've been consistently going downhill. Last visit we gave them a final shot to get it right. We went for dinner and it wasn't crowded at all. It took over 40 minutes for our food to arrive, and when it did arrive, it was cold and obviously frozen and re-heated over and over again. We also had to ask for the biscuits and corn muffins that came with most dinner entrees, and they were cool and stale. Simple items that we asked for had to be asked for multiple times before the request was fulfilled. The food has gone down and the service as well. I do NOT recommend this restaurant for breakfast, lunch or dinner. IHOP is right down the road now in Exton, go there instead. read more

Good place for home cooked meal. Great prices. Can get breakfast any time. Better choice than fast food. Sometimes the wait is long but not on this visit. The only consistent disappointment is the corn bread & biscuits. I've heard others rave about them but I think they are tasteless. Cracker Barrel has done a good job of adding lower calorie choices that are quite delicious and satisfying. They should spend time improving the cornbread and biscuits. This visit I ordered the BBQ chicken topped with diced apples. Yum! My son got buttermilk oven fried chicken and said it was as good as deep fried. My daughter, grilled chicken tenders, her favorite. My hubby ordered grilled chicken salad and said it was wonderful. We ended our visit with a walk through the gift shop. Always great fun! Stopped here for the first time on a Saturday around 1:00. I was pleasantly surprised there was no wait for a table (but that may be a red flag as well, think about it). It was a meal stop on a bike ride so I kept it simple, just got a home style cheeseburger with fries. Excellent. They even asked me if I wanted 1 or 2 patties, 1 was enough. Good food and service for a fair price, conveniently located at the junction of Business 30 and US 30 proper just east of Downingtown. The only knock on this store is they could make the aisles in the Country Store a little wider so people have room to walk around without having to say "excuse me, excuse me, excuse me." Chester Valley Trail users: From the west end of the trail, you'll have to use about 2.5 miles of roads to get to this Cracker Barrel. This may be uncomfortable for some, but I would exit the trail at Indian Run Lane and go west on Commerce Drive, north a tad on Whitford Road, and then west on Lincoln Highway. At least this stretch of Business US 30 has a nice wide shoulder on the westbound side; but eastbound, beware, there are a couple of lengthy pinch points. read more

Our family has been to this location probably 5-7 times and have always had a good experience. Once my eggs-over-easy were WAY overcooked, but they fixed it quickly when I brought it to the server's attention. I can't say enough good things about this place. It's spot on every time. Perfect service, high quality food and preparation, cleanliness, etc. I finally tried a non breakfast item on the menu. The chicken and pork chops country dinner plates. Came with two sides, I chose mashed potatoes and cole slaw. The meat actually had flavor, especially the pork chops. The sides were prepared well and it tasted homemade. A great meal for about $10 total. Also every breakfast food item is awesome. I understand they are a chain but it doesn't show in the food. Were there to enjoy a Sat brunch with my infant baby. Had to make two trips so we put the infant care eat on the floor while hubby went to get stroller. All parents know this is the safe way instead of the fall hazard if it's put on a chair. One waitress came by and loudly asked whether there is a baby in the car seat. I replied yes. Then she went "Jesus!" and stormed away. As if we didn't know what we were doing and are inadequate parents. She was so loud with such a bad attitude even other waitresses stopped and wondered what's going on. She returned with a table for the car seat when hubby already brought in our stroller. We immediately asked for a manager who did apologize but now the Sat morning relaxing mood is all but ruined. Needless to say, we did not stay. Lousy service!! I wonder what prompted her to make such a judgement. Is it because we are Asian so we must not know how to do things properly? What made her feel comfortable to deliver her opinions in such a way without fear of reaction? Can't help but wonder why Cracker Barrel tolerates such behavior? I really love the atmosphere of Cracker Barrell with the big fireplace and cozy feel. My favorite part is the big gift shop area. Also, the friendly people who work here are a plus. I had breakfast here. The food is good. I had eggs in a basket with sourdough bread that was really tasty. I like how they serve the hot tea. My hashbrowns were cold but the nice waitress I had (Rebecca) brought me a hot order when I told her. I will definitely come again. read more

Terrible service!!! We usually love to eat at Cracker Barrel whenever we travel. THIS one...it wasn't busy, so we were seated right away. Our server walked by us several times without making eye contact. Two other tables were seated after us. She made a point to go to each of those to get their drink order and then bring their drinks and take their orders, all without even acknowledging us. In fact, I thought that maybe we had a different server. We finally decided to just leave and when we got up, that's when she rudely looked at us and told me she would be with us in a minute. We decided that we were not going to stay. On our way out, we told our hostess what happened and the server actually had the nerve to come out and say that she TOLD us she would be with us! We explained that THAT wasn't until AFTER we decided we were leaving. I can't speak to the food at this location, but if they have servers like her working there, I can't imagine they are any good. I ordered curbside delivery. I got there 15 minutes early and let them know I was there. 47 minutes later, my food was brought to my car. I called them 10 minutes after my scheduled pickup time. They said they would have let me know it was delayed, but they didn't have my number. Of course they had my number as evidenced by their e-mail confirmation, but they also could walk outside to my car to tell me. When I finally received the food, I received an apology, which didn't really suffice. Oh, the food was incorrect, lukewarm for 2 of the 3 meals, and the sides we're cold, with smaller than normal portions. Horrible place. read more

All I will say is, I love this place! They are always very nice, the food is great, you get a lot, and it's cheap. What else could you ask for? Sure, some servers are better then others, and sometimes they have their bad nights, but overall they do a great job. Try being a server sometime before telling the world the server sucked.... It's like anywhere else, if you are nice to them (and maybe tell them when they do something right) you are going to get preferential treatment. Bottom line: I have eaten there many, many times and always come away happy. They do a great job. I usually love Cracker Barrel but the last two times I've been to this location my food was served warm not hot like it should be. Granted it was warmer this time then the prior occasion. I was also very disappointed in the gravy it was like water and my biscuits were a little overdone. I had no trouble with the service I received. I've eaten at their locations in various locations throughout the US, and they're very reliable as far as their food goes. I love their chicken fried chicken, with two large chicken pieces, three sides, corn bread, and sweet tea. Reminds me of my days stationed in Louisiana. Their servers are normally very friendly and efficient. Only negative experience was in upstate New York when they were really chintzy with the food portions. When I spoke to the Manager, he insisted that they were appropriate. I truly hope he's not with the company anymore because he was a poor example of management. My wife likes to browse the store after eating, and I get a kick out of seeing their old fashioned candy. If they're busy, you can even go outside and sit a spell while listening for your name. I have severe food allergies (specifically dairy) and not only did they provide a special allergy menu, but the manager (who is so nice, understanding and wonderful) came over to make sure what I was ordering was safe for me. I have always enjoyed the breakfast here until today's visit. The food was downright inedible unless u may want food poisoning from undercooked food. My eggs were so runny in the middle I could've drained the egg off my plate- I asked from well done scrambled eggs. My bacon was still flaccid and hardly cooked. Breakfast is lousy or average here. Hashbrown caserole is one of the most disgusting things I've tasted. Perhaps it was old and rehashed, as that's how it tasted, but I shouldn't have been served that in the first place. Fried apples are weirdly tasteless, grits and gravy most likely cooked out of a box as they don't taste anything remotely fresh. Over Easy eggs were OK but it's very hard to screw that up. Oats with apple and seeds was OK. We just came here as there no options around, I'd skip this place if possible. On the other hand, old country decoration is nice, service is as expected. read more

I have gone to this cracked barrel years ago and it was good. Seems to have changed and I won't return. We got seated quickly which was nice although the hostess seemed flustered. I just smiled and said "hello" and she said "I'll be with you in a minute". No big deal. We got seated in the back corner in the 3rd section of the restaurant. (There are 2 room separators making 3 sections). First section was fine but it was chilly as we walked to through the second section and freezing in the third which is where we were seated. All around us people were wearing coats, hats and scarves. I am pregnant and getting over a cold so I was not pleased being cold and having to wear my winter gear. The service was slow. Took forever to have food come out and they didn't even bring the biscuits out early so we could at least have those. The waitress never once checked on us. When we flagged her down and nicely asked for something she would bring it but always seemed we were putting her out for things like one refill of coffee and one refill of tea. The food was fine but not worth sitting in the cold for it and having bad service. I'll tell you we are steady 20% tippers unless it really warrants better or worse and we gave 15%. It's hard to get us to go that low. We don't blame the food taking a long time. Not the waitress fault but the unfriendly and bad service is totally her. The place was not even half filled so not sure why they would put us by a window in a freezing room. Neither of us have any desire to go back which is a shame since it's family oriented which we need. Not bringing a baby there!! read more

This place used to be heavy southern " brown cuisine" without a fresh salad or vegetable side dish not drowned in fat in sight. While the cuisine still reminds of mother's or even grandmother's cooking, the trend for lighter fresh fruit and vegetable dishes is noticeable. Breakfast is the big meal here and the pancakes are simply the best! They have a lot of egg dishes but no omlettes. They serve turkey sausage and turkey bacon for non-pork eaters. They have a fresh fruit breakfast. The prices are great for what you get. My favorite for dinner is the pot roast which is very tender. This is not a steakhouse or an occasion place. If you accept it for what it is, comfortable comfort food served by nice servers, Then this is a reliable choice. read more
