I've been to two Cracker Barrels in the past month. At the first one I bit down on a large stone in the turnip greens and a chicken bone in the grilled chicken tenders. I brought both things up to the waitress (separately) and she apologized. Normally, I'd think the manager would come over to apologize but this didn't happen. At the second Cracker Barrel, I had another chicken bone in chicken tenders. No apologies from anyone. I've had an issue or two in the past and a manager has come out to apologize and to ask if I'd like something else or to offer to pay for the meal. I returned to this Cracker Barrel on Friday afternoon, hoping my previous visit--one of the worst customer service experiences I've ever had at any restaurant--was just an anomaly. Years ago, when I lived in Ohio, people would line up out the door and sit on the porch rocking chairs just to wait for a table. Today, walking into Cracker Barrel feels more like stepping into a ghost town. It made me stop and wonder: What happened to this once-beloved brand? The one positive this time was that I was seated immediately. Unfortunately, the negatives began almost as quickly. No one came to take my drink order for quite a while. Next time, I may actually time how long it takes before anyone acknowledges my table. And just like my last visit, the restaurant was nowhere near capacity--far from it. A few more customers than before, but still not remotely busy. I ordered my usual: Chicken and Dumplings with three sides--coleslaw, baby carrots, and fried apples. This is a dish Cracker Barrel has been serving since day one, so consistency shouldn't be a challenge. Yet once again, the dumplings were unevenly rolled and cut. One dumpling was so oddly shaped--long, narrow, and about four inches in length--that I pointed it out to my server, and suggested it looked more like a cigar. Half of it was raw dough. Proper dumplings should be rolled to a uniform thickness and cut evenly so they cook the same. That clearly didn't happen. The baby carrots were acceptable but noticeably drier than they used to be. The coleslaw and fried apples were good. But even before the food arrived, I noticed a dried white particle stuck to my chair--something that should have been wiped away during basic table resetting. Small detail, yes, but it speaks volumes about the lack of attention throughout the restaurant. I also spoke with my waitress about the Chicken and Dumplings being extremely salty. The chicken itself didn't resemble the chunky, freshly cooked pieces Cracker Barrel used to serve. Instead, it looked processed--spongy, broken up, and inconsistent. It made me question whether they're still cooking fresh chicken breasts or the meat is now processed. The manager eventually came to my table after the waitress relayed my concerns. I explained both this visit and my previous one, and I also mentioned the obvious decline in customer traffic. He attributed the drop-off to recent boycotts over signage changes, décor updates, and the addition of alcohol to the menu. I believe the issues run much deeper. If Cracker Barrel wants customers to return, they need to get back to the fundamentals that built their reputation: * Consistent food preparation--same flavor profile every time, not salty one visit and bland the next. * Proper cooking technique--no raw dumplings, no overcooked or undercooked sides. * Accurate substitutions--if a customer asks for sourdough toast, it should be lightly toasted, not forgotten and hard as a plank. * Correct condiments--if someone requests blackberry jam, don't bring strawberry or grape. * Timely service--check back shortly after the food arrives, not long after. * Meaningful recovery--if a customer says something is too salty, ask how to make it right. Replacing a dish made in a large batch won't fix the underlying issue. Cracker Barrel used to deliver comfort, consistency, and value. Until this location starts firing on all cylinders again, I understand why customers are staying away. The pictures attached was from a previous visit, when apparently seating an empty restaurant requires you to shop 30 minutes in the retail store before being approved for seating. In addition, be aware that the hostess found in the pictures below values her personal time on her cell phone more than your wait time. Do yourself a favor if she is still employed, don't ask her for a seating update once you pass the promised wait period of 10 minutes, unless your all in on waiting 30 minutes for a table to be seated. Management needs to understand the general store retail results are a direct byproduct of a happy restaurant customer. read more

Bev and I love going to Cracker Barrel. We are always greeted warmly and the hostess sits us at a nearby table since I cannot walk very far. It takes Bev and I extra time to make up our minds on what we want to eat. Dan brings us some drinks and provides extra time to memorize the menu with our hearts and tastebuds. Everything looks delicious , I want to order it all when I'm hungry. I decided on steak and eggs. Bev took a bit longer to choose chicken. Dan was so extra kind to us. He went above expectation. Tayler was the chef and my steak and eggs were absolutely perfect. Bevs stated the meal she ordered was too spicy for her and did not eat as much. The staff are fantastic there. I noticed the excellent teamwork. They help each other and work diligently. I had a question about an ad I received on line from Cracker Barre. I was not sure if treat yourself to the cake meant we pay or is it a bonus with the peg program. Gene came out and helped me look it up on my peg page and it was not there. Gene said we could have it on him anyway. We replied no thank you. I really am losing weight successfully. So kind of him to offer. Gene noticed Bev did not eat much and offered her a different plate. She declined. Instead Gene gave us a gift card for an appetizer to make up for Bevs meal. That to was an unexpected kindness. The atmosphere was wonderful. Warmth from the fire place was an extra plus. It's been very cold here in South Carolina. As Dan was handing me the bill I reached for it but then it was out of my reach and taken to the table next to us. I thought maybe he had giving me the wrong bill. I asked Dan about our bill and he stated the next table wanted to pay for our meal. I looked over and they said Merry Christmas. I did not know them at all. We came here for dinner. Plenty of parking around the building. We looked around the store for a few minutes because there was no wait to get in. The store and restaurant were clean and the staff was friendly. Our waitress was not on top of things. She came quickly to greet us and take our drink order. She came back 10 minutes later without the drinks to tell us there was no lemonade as she apologized. She took our food order and got distracted by someone that walked into the restaurant as she shouted "Here comes trouble" three times before remembering she was taking our order. Once she came back to reality she finished our orders and said she would be back in a minute with our drinks. Twenty minutes later we got our drinks almost thirty minutes after ordering them. Luckily, the food came out a few minutes after the drinks so we didn't wait long to eat. The food was great. It's the reason I rated 4 stars and not 3. I got the Country Fried Steak with dumplings and hash brown casserole. The steak was battered and fried beautifully. I enjoyed every bite with the country gravy on top. Dumplings were great as usual. The hash brown casserole was fantastic. I didn't think I was going to enjoy it as much as I did. I guess when you fry cheese and potatoes there is no way for it to be bad. On 6/3/25... our service was horrible. Wasn't greeted with a hello. The hostess that seated us had a puss on her face. Once seated we waited awhile to even be acknowledged by our waitress. When she finally came over we did both our drink order and our meal. Again we waited a while to have our drinks served. It took a good 40 minutes for us to receive our meals. That's when the waitress let us know there was no bread. This was not at a busy time. There were not many tables filled. After awhile we noticed people were being served the bread with there meal. We inquired about the bread. We didn't see the waitress for a good 10 minutes. By this time we were done with our dinner. The waitress came out with the bread! We told her don't bother and to get our check. Not once during that time did she ever come over and check on us. When checking out the clerk asked how was everything. I said it was terrible! When the manager came over and listened to our complaints all he said was he was sorry and the next time he will make sure that we get better serve. I'm sorry to say we well not be going back. Murrells Inlet SC location: Terrible! Waited over 20 minutes to get a cup of coffee and a glass of water only after talking to the manager. When the food arrived it was barely lukewarm. My over medium eggs were hard. My dining partners scrambled eggs were chopped up in a little pieces & the biscuits were burnt! The bacon quality continues to erode and when we needed extra syrup for our pancakes, our server brought back cold syrup in an open soufflé cup after we were done. What happened to the cute little bottles? Most of the tables in the dining room are worn down to raw wood. Tables littered with to much Marketing junk! They have clearly stopped in investing in their facilities. Upper management needs to focus on restaurant operations based on food quality and high service standards .The Executives running this company are not focused on the guest, just their own their own financial gain. No wonder the stock continues to drop. This is not our first bad experience, but it will be our last. Cracker Barrel used to be our favorite breakfast place. I haven't visited a Cracker Barrel in several years since I felt the quality had declined at the one near my home, so thanks to gift cards we decided to stop here while in Myrtle Beach for an early dinner. There were still some COVID19 protocols in place (extra space between tables) which is totally fine. We were promptly seated (there were six of us). After about five minutes a waitress came over to get our drink orders and let us know she was not waiting on us. She had a bit of an attitude. As she brought our drink orders over our regular waitress got our food orders. She appeared to be relatively new but sweet/willing enough. Four of us ordered dinners and two ordered breakfast. The chefs didn't know what a poached egg was and could make them? Waiting for drink refills seemed like an eternity. Our meals came out and were passable. Nothing exceptional, but it was edible. When the beignets were the best part of the meal (dessert) you know that's a problem! I know places are short staffed but there was a table that sat needing bussed for at least 15-20 minutes. Just made the restaurant look dirty! Overall I think that's my last Cracker Barrel visit. Nothing very exciting! read more

Sooo a few nights ago I came into Cracker Barrel to get an order to go. I grabbed the order and went home. Once I got home I discovered two items were missing. I called and the manager told me at the time that they would give me two free meals and they put my name on a list to get them. I came in today to use them and I wasn't on any list. The manager I dealt with that was on duty said he would tell the manager working that night. He made a call came back to the table and said I didn't exist. I wasn't on any list anywhere. My boyfriend was upset as was I. I was handed two desert coupons. Does that equal the money I'm out? NO! The manager began arguing with us. Very unprofessional. I will NOT be back. This was the only restaurant that wasn't packed. So we took the path of least resistance and ate here. Despite the empty parking lot and mostly empty dining area, it still took us 30 minutes to be seated. Once seated we had ample time to look at the menu. When the server arrived 10 minutes later, we ordered our drinks and food. Our server spent a lot of time cleaning vacant tables and not much time checking in. We sat for 15 minutes without water. The bathroom was not filthy but it was also far from clean. I'm unsure if they are severely understaffed or severely undertrained. But, it's a miss regardless. This is a one star Cracker Barrel. We haven't been out in a long time but we have always enjoyed dining at the various Cracker Barrel restaurants we've visited over the years. The dining room wasn't what we were used to seeing on previous visits to Cracker Barrel, it's usually bustling with people and an exciting atmosphere. Tonight the customers were fairly few, the floor was dirty and the employees were friendly but not very outgoing. We ordered fairly simple meals, I ordered the Tuesday Night Special consisting of meatloaf and two sides. My wife ordered a kids meal- a grilled cheese with bacon and a side of hash brown casserole. We ordered biscuits to start off with. We received the biscuits after inquiring about their whereabouts and the four biscuits came with two small containers of butter. So we requested more butter from a passing manager who said he would bring us some. A few minutes later a server brought us a bowl filled with butter packets. The food arrived and we were both out of beverages, and the order was missing the hash brown casserole. Our server said she would bring the casserole and refill our drinks- then promptly went to a newly seated table of six and proceeded to take their orders. My wife ate her sandwich and went to wait in the car as her back was hurting and she couldn't wait for the rest of her dinner. The server brought out the casserole as I was finishing and asked how everything was. I asked for a quick refill of my unsweetened tea. After she left to presumably get the tea, another server arrived and gave me a sweet tea. Pretty weak performance delivering a fairly easy dinner order, the restaurant was dirty, the food "presentation " was horrendous. I won't return to this location, I hope if I decide to try another it is much better. Edit/ addition to my previous review. The resolution to my poor experience was to offer me a coupon for a complimentary dessert on my next visit. I did not write this review or complain to get anything from Cracker Barrel, and I still do not want anything from Cracker Barrel. To start off, I love cracker barrel. They have always been one of my favorite restaurants to go to. However, this one has officially lost my business. My wife and I have tried to eat here a few times, and each time we hate it. The first time, we got in okay and were seated quickly. Our waitress was far from friendly right out of the gate. We push through and when we got our food, neither of us had even taken a bite and the waitress was back at our table with the check and two boxes. We complained to the manager who was also far from friendly who told us this is normal. None of the other tables around us had this happen. This was also pre-covid so there's no excuse. The second time, our waitress kept vanishing. It took almost 30 minutes to get our coffee, and was a little over an hour before we were asked if we were ready to order our food. We decided to just pay for the cold coffee and leave. Asked to speak to the manager but was told they weren't available. This last time, yesterday, it was my daughter's and me. She wanted some biscuits and gravy and we were already two hours past lunch. Going inside, they were not busy. We were able to walk right up to the counter with no one in front of us. Spoke to a man this time and said we needed a table for two. He responded with "two plus that thing (pointing at my 7 month old) makes three so you'll have a 20-40 minute wait." I was livid. I unfortunately used some poor choice words with the man but you shouldn't call my baby a THING with a tone of disgust. I can always count on a Cracker Barrel for a solid meal when I'm on the road. Specifically, breakfast. Give me eggs, biscuits, and a turkey-sausage patty, and I'm a happy guy. I had (of course) the Country breakfast. The Hashbrown Casserole and a glass of fresh OJ are always nice bonuses. But I confess, it's the other aforementioned stuff I really appreciate. Friends of ours went to this Cracker Barrel with another set of friends that were in from VA. A: 90, 89, 85, 86 year old. One is on oxygen and gets tired out really easy, plus they all have trouble with mobility. They requested to sit at the first round table inside the dining room because the husband gets so tired walking, in which they were told No!!!!???? Then another guy came to seat them and they asked again if they could have that first round table, again they were told they were sitting everyone in the middle section and they only had two servers, so No again???? They weren't even busy, yet they made our poor elderly friends walk clear to the back of the middle section next to the window!!! What is wrong with these people that they have No Compassion for their elderly customers. I'm glad I wasn't with them, because I would've had a big old chat with the manager. Just went back this week, place has gone downhill a lot. They only had 1/3 of the place open during the lunch hour and there were 6 of us so we ended up waiting over 40 minutes while the previous party of 6 dined. Just kept watching parties of 2, 3 and 4 come in and get seated. Given that 2/3 of the place was not being used there was no way to seat us? If my 89 year old mom did not want to eat there when we visit, I would never go back. BUT, having said that, the food is good and our server, Haley, was delightful. Went in for lunch around 12:45pm this afternoon with my parents, the drinks were wrong, my parents ordered an unsweet tea and a half and half, both getting straight sweet tea. The waitress was prompt to fix the mistake, things were fine. I ordered the country fried steak meal with three country sides, and this is where my entire day was ruined. What I received seemed to be ground beef tossed in flour and dumped in old fryer oil, It could've fooled me with the appearance of being old giving the color of the flour, as if it had been set aside and then just tossed back in the fryer after we placed the order...but ground beef?? That isn't even the proper meat for a country fried steak, and the taste took me back to the days of eating a steamed hamburger from the racetrack I grew up next to, flavorless, soggy, and just down right grainy overall. It seriously ruined my day if not my week, because I've always known Cracker Barrel's Country fried steak to be one of the top hit staples on the menu, and i had a serious craving. After the first few bites I had waited in hopes the waitress would make her rounds again and i could express my concerns and hopefully have it fixed, but we didn't see her again for the 25 minutes after the fact. By then my parents were ready to go and i was just outright too upset to wait any longer. My parents said their food was great, but the experience I had, I don't think I would ever go back, especially if i can't get a country fried steak like i used to get when i was living in Virginia. Included in the bowl were the green beans my wife ordered as a side. It was disgusting. One of her sides was floating in the bowl. I called for the manager who informed us that this was the new way they are serving this dish with the sides in the same bowl with the chicken and dumplings. My wife was glad she didn't order mac and cheese as a side. After telling us that this awful bowl of food was Cracker Barrel's version of Chicken and Dumpings and asking if we wanted something else, which time wouldn't allow, she began to walk away. From hand rolled biscuits, blueberries from Maine, oranges from Florida for freshly squeezed juice, 100% natural syrup bottled in Vermont and their own 18 hour slowly roasted beef. From the open porch with a row of rockers, to the farm chic home decor and collectibles, seasonal items and trendy apparel gift shop, to the country comforts of the open dining room one has the feeling of being home. Our entree was Maple Bacon Grilled Chicken with two grilled chicken breasts topped with sweet n' smoky maple glaze, strip of thick hickory smoked bacon and melted cheese. Good portions got us sharing and delicious flavor got us savoring. Two choice of Country Sides from a slew of fixins got us enjoying the creamy mac and cooked baby carrots.
