I rated as a 4 star because someplace has to be exceptional for me to give a 5. I was hungry, had 90 minutes free, and wanted a solid breakfast to hold me for a number of hours, so searched and found this Cracker Barrel in York. The staff were all friendly and welcoming, and nobody seemed to hate that they had a job. In fact, they were all most affable. We were promptly seated and given our choice in beverages and provided clean menus. Our order was taken and we were served within probably 15 minutes. I chose the Country Boy Breakfast with fried apples, ham, and potato casserole with an orange juice and coffee with milk (not creamer). Our server Jenn was attentive and pleasant. I found my ham quite salty, however I think that's the case everywhere. Everything was tasty and filling. I had the option of paying on my phone from the QR code on my bill which is convenient. Afterwards we shopped in their store which has some really cool things. I purchased a massive mug which said " I'm down to one cup daily." I'd not been in a Cracker Barrel for years but found it to be an old reliable. I'm not sure what changes you made to your food but it was meh at best. My wife ordered sausage patties that were tasteless. The grits were flat out horrible. Your biscuits were awesome at one time, now just ok. I guess Cracker Barrel is focused on record profits and forgot about how to prepare one of the easiest meals of the day. The food the last few times has not been as good as it use to be. Grandpa's Country Fried Breakfast was always my go to and now it's not a regular on the menu since they changed it. They bring it back here and there. The last two times I've been able to get it they forgot to bring me the biscuits and gravy which is one of the main things on this order. The sausage gravy lacks flavor and is never hot anymore. The holiday cinnamon roll pie though is so good. They should think about selling it year round. This last time the ladies in the country store wouldn't stop stalking my daughter and I the whole time we were in there. Freaked her out! Let people shop and leave them alone, no I don't care what scent of candles is your favorite or what candy you buy. Just let people shop in peace. read more

Macalah was our waitress, had to ask for straws, she never brought our cornbread so we ask someone else,she never brought extra napkins so had to ask someone else,never ask if Everything was okay. A great review with an incredible waitress, at York, Pa. location. My wife and daughter decided to treat me to a great meal at your location just off 83 and Queen Street. The place was fairly large with a small store on the side, but they were busy, which is expected for a Sunday. We were seated fast and within a few minutes, we had met our waitress Maggie, who was a staff trainer herself. She took our orders with ease, altho she did say that there was a lot of orders for take out, and I said it was absolutely no problem. Our food did arrive after a wait, not long or anything, and it was VERY Tasty. I had the Eggs and steak tips, wife had shrimp and daughter had the chicken tenders. everything was excellent. Maggie was busy but she was excellent with the light chat we had. She wished us a happy birthday (mine) and gave a free piece of cake. I know and heard people complain about the food, prices or the changes in decor. I didn't see any of that. and had nothing but great reviews for my experience there. We were here for lunch. Our meals were great - when we finally got them - but everything was slow. We suspected our server was the cause since several other tables were seated after us and got their drinks and food before we got ours. Also, we were starving and our meals came with biscuits and cornbread but we didn't get either until our server came back to "check on us" halfway through our meal and we asked for them. Everything was slow. We waited more than five minutes to be greeted only to be told she'd be right with us. We watched her go to another table and stand there gabbing with the couple for several minutes then check another table then disappear in back before coming back to get our drink orders. Our drinks took about 5 minutes to arrive after she got our orders. We were seated at 12:30 and our food came out at 1:05. I've worked for Cracker Barrel years ago, and every time I stop in, my expectations are usually quite high. Sometimes when my family and I stop in, it's a sweet experience, and the other half, it's just outright terrible. Either the food is under cooked, the waitress doesn't talk much or has a terrible attitude. We all have bad days, I know that. But, like I said, I've worked for Cracker Barrel, and I never showed a bad attitude, you just can't do that in this industry. I have the best waitress at Pauline Drive in York, PA. My sister and I come there every Saturday and she knows what we order everytime. Well almost unless I change my mind and want something else. We order from the childrens menu because that is more than enough for us. Angel is always the best . How appropriate for her name to be Angel because she is. I am not sure who was working on the potatoes today but they need to be re-trained. I ordered the loaded baked potato which was supposed to have cheese, bacon, green onions, butter, and sour cream on it. When I sliced it open, there were two black bruises on the potato, and the only items that were on the potato were cheese and bacon. My mother ordered the mashed potatoes. They do not look like mashed potatoes at all. They're brown and hard as a rock. Essentially, I was able to eat 40% of my potato and my mom could only eat 0% of the mashed potatoes. Here is a picture of both. Would you eat either of them whoever is checking the quality control of the food needs to step it up. I am disappointed that the quality of food at this restaurant has gone down so much but there you go. Hopefully management will take a look at this review and try to make things better. Stopped here for lunch after a morning running errands in the area. The Mr and I both love Cracker Barrel for their constistancy and value. I also love the smell, warmth, and flicker of their live fire. We both got a new to us lunch special of a smothered, country fried chicken breasts with toppings and two sides each, and of course the endless supply of their biscuits, which I like to eat southern style, drenched in honey. The chicken was crispy on the outside yet tender and moist on the inside and the portion was generious. I believe each of our meals were in the $12 price range. We had a waiter/waitress who was obviously trans or maybe just enjoyed wearing lipstick, long polished nails, and bold hanging earings but was clearly male. I prayed hubby would be on his best behavior as he is very closed minded. While surprised he was so bold in his fashion choices, I judge the person not the look. He was awesome! Very pleasant, efficient, and did his job well. That's how people should be judged! Four stars because it makes so sense to get such good service, than have to stand in a long, crowded line to pay, all the while trying not to knock anything over in the cluttered and tight spaced "store". So on our way back from Niagara Falls the wife told me that she had never been to Cracker Barrel. Of course the next stop was there. Luckily on our way back down 83 it was a Cracker Barrel right in Pennsylvania on exit 16a. It was a bit of a shock that on a lovely Sunday afternoon it wasn't crowded but we were greeted & seated instantly. I elected to go with the Granny's breakfast pancake sampler. Prices continue to go up. We found hair in our chicken fingers. Sausage was hard as a hockey puck. Steak was tiny. Food was MORE EXPENSIVE than all local chain restaurants. Service was poor-drinks empty most of the meal (Betsy was the server). Placed was so packed it was hard to move in the store and restaurant. Thank goodness we could pay in the QR code because there were more than 10 people in line. We haven't been here in a while but definitely will not be coming back- very very disappointed. Cracker Barrel has sunk to a new low in service, 40 minutes for ham and eggs and they couldn't even get the order right. They brought one jelly for a biscuit basket for two people, asked for an iced tea with lemon, no lemon. I know the company is not very stable or financially sound right now, but this is just awful. And this used to be a really good location. If I could rate it less than one star, I would probably rate it like about a -27. Eat at your own risk. Just for additional information there were only 10 tables occupied in the entire restaurant and it took 40 minutes for ham and eggs. read more

Been here a few times and wait time and service is usually bearable. I've had one experience where a server complained to me about the use of pronouns. Not really here to be everyone's friend, I'm here to eat. The food overall is good, but some dishes are questionable. Today, I've arrived and was given a 20 minute wait time. Been sitting at the table now for 40 minutes and only have 2 glasses of water on my table. It's only a party of two that ordered 2 dishes, so I'm not sure what's going on. No biscuits, no waitress interaction or reassurance about the food. It's very confusing because there are many workers standing around or tending to things that seem obsolete. Normally, I'd give 3 or 4 stars even, but today has been the worst service received since coming here for the first time. 39 minutes since I got the "table is ready" text and there's not even silverware on our table yet. Edit: received our food after 50 minutes of waiting. Waitress brings out food with fingers in the dish. Wife's casserole is burnt. Times have changed since the Covid-19 days... I haven't been to Crackle Barrel in a while. I had a little extra time this morning and thought I'd give them a try for breakfast. I remember getting "Uncle Hershel's Favorite" in the past and it filled me up. So that's what I ordered, with the sugar ham. Also had coffee I forgot it wasn't included so that was an extra $2.79. After waiting 20 minutes and two cups of coffee later my breakfast was brought to my table. Now if they were busy I'd say okay I understand. However this was a Tuesday morning at 10:15 am and not many customers there at all. I did not realize that Uncle Hershel was on a diet or possible had a stomach surgery. The ham was the size of an egg and was extremely salty. The eggs were runny and cold. Also very cold were my biscuits and gravy and the potatoes. The waitress did not stop back to see how things were. I think she knew and tried avoiding the situation. At cash register I asked to see a manager. She came right out, very polite and extremely nice. I wasn't looking for a free meal I just wanted her to know what a horrible experience I had. (The coffee was very good) The manager took notes of my experience so that she could coach the staff. She was also nice enough to pick up the entire bill for me which was just about $15.00 To sum it up, Uncle Hershel needs to get better. My family in law was visiting my family in York, and decided to all go out for breakfast. We were all very hungry but we understood that there were 9 people in our party so the wait would be long. When we checked in, the server told us it'll be a 45 minutes wait. We ended up waiting for about 25-30 minutes. We were seated right away with a server taking our drink order. Our server was very attentive and helpful. Our food came in no time and everyone was pretty happy with their food. I got the stuffed cream cheese pancake with strawberries on top. The pancake was amazing for the first one; but when I get to my second one I felt that it's too sweet, I couldn't finish them. This would be a really good dish to share! My little sister got Buffalo ranch Mac n cheese and loved it. The only oopsie the server did is that she forgot I ordered a side of fried okra, it never came. However we were never charged.
