I had high hopes for this place based on reviews, but it didn't live up to my expectations. First warning, if you have high blood pressure don't opt for the seafood boil that comes in the bag. It's super salty! I eat at a lot of seafood places and their bags were dry in comparison, very little sauce to the bottom. Also, we didn't feel like the sauce was much butter, just a lot of seasoning. I got the snow crab and headless shrimp combo. The shrimp were okay, nothing special but the crab was delicious and very meaty! The service was okay, nothing spectacular. All of the staff seemed very young like it's their first job, but no fault to them. Overall, the place is new and could use a lot of practice in food and service. Me and my friend went on Saturday, for the first time and the place is super cute. It has a real good feel, however, the service was terrible. We sat at the top area, and our waitress was missing for almost the entirety of the meal. Actually, all her tables at the top were neglected. There was a male waiter and he was ON IT with his tables, so it was easy to notice the neglect. It took at least 25 minutes to get a drink....maybe they're made fresh? Just seems like a long time. They weren't full when we arrived but it did get busy. Their mango margaritas are absolutely amazing by the way--I would definitely recommend. The king crab was cooked to perfection. However, the shrimp was overcooked. Not sure if they cooked it together or whatever but it wasn't great. Overall, if you're getting crab then you're good. This place is located by the University of North Carolina at Charlotte in an awesome area with lots of shopping and food and a lovely pond. My husband and I were seated immediately, no wait. I ordered a fried catfish basket with onion rings, hush puppies and a pound of boiled headless shrimp. I couldn't decide which seasoning to have the shrimp boiled in so I chose The Boom!!! which is Crafty Crab's original seasoning along with buttery garlic and lemon pepper seasonings combined. Visiting from out of town I stumbled upon this place while driving around the shopping center. I'm so glad I ventured in because it was some of the best seafood I've ever had. This will be a must visit any time I'm in Charlotte now! I ordered the half pound each of snow crab legs and headless shrimp in mild buttery garlic sauce and it was awesome! Food wise, this is best restaurant the Boardwalk has to offer & I would go a step further and say it's definitely better than Seafood Connection (literally 1 mile away from this establishment). My friend and I waited for maybe 10 minutes to be seated, but that was a small price to pay compared to the food we received. Everything is decently priced and the food was amazing. I came here and ordered take out, as I noticed the wait for take out at most crab places are pretty quick. I order shrimp and mussels and extra corn and potatoes with the medium crafty crab sauce. Now I'm a pescatarian so I love my seafood and I absolutely love trying new seafood establishments. The sauce was pretty good, more on the sweeter side compared to other crab boil establishments that I've gone too. The shrimp and mussels were good and fresh. The reason that I had to give them 3 stars instead of 4 was due to the price that I paid. I paid more for less food. I was in the University City area and looking for a place to eat. I sat in my car and opened Yelp and found 2 seafood places, only 1 of which answered the phone. So I placed my order with Crafty Crab and drove 10 minutes to get my food. Now I'm a fan of P_ B__'s on Freedom, but this place also gets my vote! The shrimp I ordered were fresh, seasoned well and not overcooked. I wanted to pull over and eat but decided to drive home where I could spread out. I would have given 5 stars, but the fries were a little greasy and not freshly made. They were eaten, though. I will definitely remember this place when I'm in the area. The boil was good but the atmosphere was so off. I don't understand the loud music for that type of crowd. Club music so loud we couldn't have a conversation yet the restaurant had families in it. The lobster was over cooked that the meat was stuck to the shell and when you tried to take it off, most of the meat was left on the shell. The shrimp was over cooked that you ended up eating the shrimp with most of the shell on it. The seasoning was good but hurry up and get it on your food because it will turn to paste and dry up. I'm not sure how a crab restaurant thinks it's ok to not have crackers but this place doesn't. The food is not good. It was clear that the oysters were not fresh and not serviced with the proper accompaniments (horseradish and ménage). The seafood is so saturated in seasoning that it takes away from the flavor of the seafood. No butter or silverware was brought with our meal. When we asked for forks and crackers I was told they don't have crackers and when they brought a fork it was plastic. It's quite difficult to eat crab legs without even a fork. Our waitress took forever to bring us anything we asked for... very slow service. To top it all off they don't offer hand sanitizing wipes after a super messy meal, instead they give you plastic gloves. The crafty crab has the best hot seafood seasoning ever. We ordered a bucket of beer, dirty martini, and a dozen steamed oysters to start. My husband had the small seafood platter, and the small still had a big amount of food in it. It came in a bag with snow crab, crawfish, shrimp, mussels, clams, corn on the cob and potato. I had the 1Lb of blue crab with hottest season option that came with 4 crabs, 2 potatoes and a corn on the cob. They were DELISH. We don't usually order so much food but we are on vacation to Charlotte so we went all out that day. Our server, Ebony, was super cool and the place is clean and decorated very nicely.
