This place was a strange experience. I was not fond of the service and I didn't feel comfortable for some reason. I felt like I was more of a hindrance than a customer. This is my chosen breakfast stop in the area, so I'm going to review it even though I have yet to get there early enough to actually sit down and eat. No reason to penalize them just because my ass is always runnin' late. Craig's big, bold "Breakfast All Day" banner in the window caught my attention the first time my bus passed it by. I went back that evening, but was was sad to find out "all day" only meant "until we close mid-afternoon." But I persevered, and eventually got there in the morning, and I've been hitting it since. Quincy, MA is the birthplace of everyone's favorite tolerate-it-in-a-pinch breakfast stop, Dunkin' Donuts. Which makes it a total kick in ol' NukNids' nads that Craig's breakfast sandwiches slam theirs so hard. Maybe because they're handmade fresh, yet somehow are ready as quickly or more quickly than at most Dunkies. Or maybe it's the variety of breadstuffs you can choose (I recommend the Portuguese sweet roll -- it's like getting your sandwich on two little pancakes, though without the maple flavor [though I'm sure they'd add syrup if you wanted], and without that self-loathing that comes with ordering any food that starts with "Mc"). Or maybe it's the yummy meats, like hand-sliced sausage links or bacon actually cooked on a grill. Whatever the key, the end combo is more than worth the three minute walk from the Quincy Center T. Mind you, that's just my rave on the breakfast sandwiches. I haven't even -gotten- to the fact that the place is so adorable inside, nicely decorated with plenty of room to sit; nor how incredibly friendly all the people who work there are, not to mention all the people who are clearly regulars; nor how fast the service is even when there's a line...oh, well, now I guess I have. I've been going to this cafe before it changed ownership back in the early 2000s. Their benedicts always taste flavorful and delectable, but I had a bad experience with an omelette. It was very oily and it kept dripping down; the omelette didn't keep its form like my sister's or brother in law's. I'll try them again for an omelette again because I really like Craig's and I'm sure it won't be an issue next time. The potatoes needed salt and a little more time on the stove because they were a bit raw. The highlight of the meal was the Portuguese Sweet Roll :) I have a soft spot for Portuguese sweet rolls all the time and it's so damn good the way it was served at Craig's. This has to be the friendliest place in Quincy. Came in on a saturday just before 10am; I was surpised that it wasn't packed because of all the great reviews I read before coming. Anyhoo, immediately when we walk in a gentleman behind the counter greets us warmly and offers us any open table we would like. The waitress informed us that the coffee is self serve, which I thought was odd but honestly love because I get to mix decaf and regular myself. We were very hungry and I'm newly preggers so I caved in to my craving for french toast :\ My friend had to send the pancakes back because they were slightly undercooked but they were very nice and hyper vigilant about fixing the error. We had a giant feast all for 19.95! woohoo!! On the way out five different staff members bid us well and adieu, so pleasant! definitely coming back! read more

I came here because I had been waiting too long at another breakfast spot in Quincy and decided to use Yelp to find a place to eat. I had been once before on a random afternoon and the place was not busy at all. I purchased a quick snack and didn't think about Craig's Café until today. I was tempted by the review of the Breakfast Burrito. When I arrived, the place was pretty busy. I was greeted by one of the cheerful staff and directed to sit where I'd like. I was given a menu and a glass of ice water was brought to me immediately. I looked at the menu and pondered other tasty looking options, but decided upon the Breakfast Burrito. The prices on the menu were very reasonable and the portions I saw being served to other guests looked generous and delicious. I did not need to wait too long for my Burrito and it did not disappoint! The grilled wheat tortilla encased a delicious combination of eggs, salsa, cheese. The home fries that accompanied the burrito were cooked perfectly. The service was very friendly and quick. The food was delicious and the price was right! They have AMAZING coffee flavors, supreme sandwiches and sides, and such a friendly staff! Came in here for breakfast on a weekday morning. There were only a few other people in there at that time. The guy working (never caught his name) came over to me, brought me a glass of water and the menu, let me know I could help myself to hot coffee, and anything in the soda case, and he would make my iced coffee for me. He was really friendly. It is bigger inside than you would think by just looking at the store front. Bright, casual, not a lot of tables so I imagine it gets really busy here during the weekends. I got the talk of the town sandwich, mostly because I read Damien's review on it and couldn't resist. It was delicious. And roughly the size of my head. Washed it down with an iced coffee, and got a muffin to go for a coworker, Came to just over $8. Worth every penny. I will have to go back and try some of their lunch options next time. read more

Cute overlooked lunch spot in Quincy Center. I came here with my friend for a weekday lunch and it was great! Service was quick and attentive and both of us were pleased with our meals. I got a sunset burger (fried egg!) and liked pretty much everything, the sweet potato fries included, runniness of the egg, and the burger itself. Could've been seasoned a little more, but minor details. My friend go the BLAT (bacon, lettuce, avocado, tomato) and there could've been a little more evenness to avocado placement - but again super small details. Great little spot for breakfast or lunch. Good location in Quincy Center, close to the Red Line. They have a great selection of delicious food and it's not too pricey. The few times I have gone I have had to wait for a table for 5 - 10 minutes but it's understandable because a lot of people like the food. I usually go here one or two times a week now. The apple cinnamon pancakes with the maple coffee is an amazing combo. The customer service here is some of the best I've ever seen. The french toast was delicious. Very nice staff, there was a small problem with something I ordered and the staff was very prompt to fix it. I really love the zip line used for sending orders down toward the kitchen area. Very unique, and good atmosphere. Nothing special, but worthwhile. If the owner is reading this, here's my list of suggestions... - offer several unique/tasty hot sauces (esp Frank's) on each table, not just tobasco - have a decorator design some attractive woodwork, esp for the counter - hang some fun artwork and a few mirrors - maybe a new paint job for the walls (I forgot to notice when I was there) - most of the counter is unnoticed because the POS is seen first, could be better utilized maybe as bar seats or as a (flashy) display case. - keep the flavored coffees, that sets you apart - come up with one or two more unique food items (addictive muffins, caribbean fruit breakfast, breakfast burrito to-go, etc.) - the breakfast was tasty, keep it up. read more

Was looking for a Breakfast Place to try in Quincy, and this seemed to have good potential. We arrived on a Sunday morning with a couple of parties waiting ahead of us. Good thing we got seated when we did because the line quickly increased in size and by the time we left, there were at least 10 parties waiting, so I imagine it makes sense to arrive early to get a seat. A standard little greasy spoon with extremely happy/helpful staff. They have pour-your-own coffee with at least 5 different coffee flavors, which is great because you don't have to wait for more coffee. AND all of the breakfast meals seem to come with coffee included in the price. The prices were extremely reasonable and the food was flavorful. Some of the egg dishes come with aioli on top, which is kind of weird, but it tastes good once you get used to it. The décor could be better but makes sense with the low prices. I LOVE finding awesome diners, especially places that serve all day breakfast. My boyfriend and I love making our own enormous breakfast feasts, so we're kinda picky when it comes to finding quality places to eat. We wandered into Craig's one gloomy day before work and the EGG CROISSANT SANDWICH automatically brightened my day. Craig's serves DOWNEAST COFFEE which are created regionally in Rhode Island and super tasty. Currently they offer APPLE PIE COFFEE which my boyfriend says is really good with a touch of cream and no sugar. In addition to the egg croissant sandwich, I've had: a ham, and broccoli omelet: A+, New England Turkey Panini: A+, and of course a grilled blueberry muffin which was phenomenally tasty. My boyfriend had the steak and cheese omelet: A+, Steak and eggs: A+, Steak and cheese sandwich: A+ For all of the 25 days I lived in Quincy I made it into Craig's 4 out of 5 times. One of my attempts happened to be on a weekend and of course was disappointed that Craig's currently is closed Saturdays and Sundays. I think my boyfriend actually went in one other time without me, so that's 5 times for him. As another reviewer mentioned Craig's is currently under new management and Tom is doing an awesome job so far. I am incredibly sad to not be living in the area any more and that I won't be in close proximity to this gem of a cafe. I am a huge fan of classic breakfast food: eggs, bacon, omelettes, french toast, etc. In that regard, Craig's Cafe was pretty good, and the price was right. Considering only food/price, I'd probably rate Craig's with 4 stars. However, where my experience suffered, was the service. I was flying solo, and sat at the bar, right near the register. As soon as I sat down the waitress told me I was in the "bad luck seat" and said the woman who sat their before me was a total grump and was rude. That conversation was slightly awkward, but it really wasn't a big deal. Service during my meal was fine, and like I said, the food was pretty good. However, after finishing my meal, my waitress was nowhere to be found. I sat there, my credit card in hand, trying to convey the fact that I was ready to pay, for 20+ minutes. During that time, a woman came in and sat at the empty seat next to me, and sat their for probably 15-20 minutes before anyone so much as served her a glass of water, before someone finally came by and asked "have you been helped yet?". Another gentleman came in and stood at the register to place a to-go order. Nobody else was in line, and there were a handful of empty tables at the restaurant, so it wasn't even that busy. Yet, he stood there for a solid 20 minutes, with other waitresses coming up to cash out other patrons, literally reaching around him to grab silverware and menus to seat arriving customers. I heard a waitress tell him once "we'll be with you in a minute", but after 20 minutes passed and nobody ever took his order, he turned and left, and as he passed by a waitress on his way out "Well if nobody is going to take my order then I'm going to leave". Finally, my waitress returned, and asked me "if I was trying to check out". Craig's could be a great breakfast spot, if the employees would step up their service game a bit. Had it been an extremely busy day, I would've definitely given them a pass, but it seemed to be a total lack of effort. read more

We recently had Craig's Cafe cater a wedding rehearsal dinner. The meal included appetizers, entrees with sides, and dessert, all produced to allergy-sensitive needs. The appetizers included bacon-wrapped beef filets with horseradish sauce; broccoli carrot and shrimp tempura with pesto mayonnaise; and lobster salad on fresh tortilla chips. For the main show, entrees included lemon chicken, sirloin tips with peppers and onions, roasted vegetables (summer squash, zucchini and eggplant) with balsamic dressing, and rice pilaf. The lemon chicken being a particularly big hit with the crowd. For dessert, home-made strawberry sorbet and chocolate cupcakes. As previously mentioned, the meal had to be prepared with severe food allergies in mind: several people in attendance were highly allergic to eggs, milk, cheese and nuts. The fact that the meal was delicious and enjoyed by everyone, regardless of whether or not they were allergic to these ingredients is a testament to the quality of the food. The service was excellent and presentation very professional. Looking at the reviews, clearly Craig's gets props for its food in the restaurant, especially for breakfast, but they also deserve some attention for excellent catering. read more

I ordered one French toast as a side and found it to be flavorful and delicious - unlike Kristen's breakfast and brunch's French toast. It was a good/generous portion and satisfied my tummy (as I had eaten breakfast a couple hours earlier). Would definitely recommend this place for breakfast and enjoy the free coffee before heading out. For the positives: The food! They have many different varieties of coffee (I recommend the harvard square blend) that is self serve from carafes and bottomless. The pancakes are to die for, have never had one that isn't cooked properly. The benedict is also delicious and I find myself ordering it over and over-- but I did manage to try an omelet not too long ago and that was great too! We usually also get the french fries with buffalo aioli. They don't go light on the alcohol for the mimosas, either, which is nice. The food usually comes out extremely quickly and the waitstaff is attentive and friendly. The price! The portions! For the negatives: On a busy day, wait staff and kitchen staff seem to become overwhelmed with the number of orders-- it doesn't look like they've got much space to work with, so it never upsets us, but I have seen other restaurant goers becoming visibly agitated. Place was dark and scary. (Remember that scene in Goodfellas where DeNiro tried to convince Karen Hill to go into the sketchy looking store front and take some dresses for her mother. Yeah it reminded me of that.) So First off I am a fully admitted germaphobe - who seeks out minimal decor and lots of light. So I wasn't sure whether to just turn around and leave. Nope. I've got to see what this place was about. WOW! I was rewarded for overcoming my preconceptions! Greeted by two very friendly gents. Self serve coffee? BONUS! The old wire slip holder overhead was a pretty cool surprise as my order went whizzing by. Old School A+ Went for my old standby - western omelette. WOWZA! This was unequivocally the best omelette I've had on the South Shore (JJs Cafe Brockton is the only other comparable greatness). Huge portion - fluffy - light and properly made. I love their tomato, spinach, basil with mozzarella omelette and their banana foster pancake. They have a self-service coffee where there are always 5-6 different coffee flavors to try. Their price is also very reasonable - expect $10/person. If you're looking for a fancy breakfast with Champagne & orange juice, this is not the place for you. Nice, casual, lunch and breakfast place. The chicken wrap, salad, and the New England panini are good. The portions are the perfect size and I like that they always include a few pickle slices with the sandwiches and wraps. Service can be a little slow right around noon, but the food is good, and the people who run Craig's are great, so I don't mind the wait. read more

There are two large coolers at the front of the space that have a myriad of cold drinks. OJ, Apple Juice, etc. Some energy drinks, too. Coffee is also self-serve. There are mugs next to carafes of various flavours of coffee. While this might work for some, I found it to be annoying. I'm paying for service, not self-service. The selection, however, from Welch's was ok. 2. Organization:lacking. I sat at my table for a good 5 minutes while a couple of servers went about doing their duties but not even saying hello. The waitress assumed that we had been their before and informed us of the beverage thing. I had no idea but when told it was our first time there, she perked up to sound more helpful. Not sure what that was all about. There weren't a lot of check-ins at the table either. Overall, solid experience. I'll go back at some point to check out the breakfast sandwiches next time I'm downtown. For the two breakfasts, cost wasn't really that bad. $22 for three plates of food and two bottled drinks. I grew up in Quincy, and I always passed through the area without considering there were thriving businesses, not just old buildings. Oh boy, I have been missing out on some delicious blueberry pancakes! They're not the Maine blueberry pancakes you might get in Bar Harbor, Maine, but they're so fluffy and delectable with butter alone. It's decidedly my go-to, but my boyfriend really enjoyed his steak omelet and home fries. I've been to Craig's twice, and the service was superb both times. I feel bad that I forgot the name of the server who helped me and my boyfriend on a busy Sunday morning last month, but despite the high volume of customers and activity, this guy was on the ball!! He was wearing a baseball cap, in case that helps to distinguish him...Anyway, he was so friendly and outgoing, efficient, attentive, alert (he thanked us for pointing out a customer left her purse on her chair, and he remembered who she was), and he was there when you needed him, not when you didn't. I was highly impressed by how well peolple seemed to know the routine of being there. If there was a wait, it wasn't too long, but people knew they could help themselves to various coffees at the front. It never seemed chaotic. Even for lunch I had breakfast--pancakes with sausage, eggs and potatoes...and coffee. Hit the spot! It was a good portion; I couldn't even finish the pancakes. A while back, we noticed their sign indicating they were open on Saturdays, so N and I stopped in last weekend. N had the veggie omelette and I had the spinach and feta omelette (comes with potatoes and toast). The omelettes were perfect--not dry, not too salty, and not skimpy on the ingredients. The breakfast dishes come with tea or self-serve, unlimited coffee (or bottled water, as we found out, since N doesn't drink either). All this for $6.99...score! I'll have to try something on their lunch menu sometime.... I had the same waitress both times and she has been cheery, attentive and helpful, as was the owner. They spread out the red "now open everyday" sign behind the counter and questioned if it was too big. They just provide a "small town" vibe that I dig. Aaaand now they're also open on Sundays! The staff is so friendly and always greets us with a smile, a "good morning" and a "the usual coffee?" Tom always likes to make sure customers meals were satisfactory and of course every time we go they are consistently AMAZING. He's a culinary genius with all of the new specials he comes up with. Tried Craig's Cafe today for the first time and got take out. Reviews say that it usually takes a lot longer than they say so I went to pick it up about 40 mins after I ordered and it was ready. Ordered the Craig's Benedict and 1 piece of French toast but was given a different Benedict instead. Went on the menu and turns out they gave me a Brandon's Benedict instead. It was still good except I probably would've preferred to receive what I ordered. The iced coffee was good too! read more
