From the outside, Craig's Café doesn't look like much or really big. The café is pretty roomy and has a comfortable vibe. It was a pretty busy Saturday late morning - luckily we were able to score a table without waiting too long. We opted to go with the lunch menu. We'd ordered the Asian chicken salad and steak bomb sub with sweet potato fries. The chicken was super flavorful and moist...love the sesame ginger dressing, too. My partner devoured his steak bomb - raved bout the bread being just right and the sweet potato fries being delish. This place was great for a quick breakfast this morning. The staff/ owner is very friendly. They have several varieties of coffee and although it's self serve, the free refills at the coffee bar make it so your cup is never cold or dry. The breakfast menu is not too fancy - just good simple breakfast items. I had a veggie omellete & my wife the steak and cheese omelette. I would have preferred to have a choice of cheese, but at $6.99 with unlimited coffee, it's acceptable. Bonus: Most dishes are from $4.50 to $9. Craig's Cafe is the best breakfast spot in Quincy Center! Let's start with the most important piece - the coffee is self-serve and bottomless. They have a nice variety of flavors and blends, too. Service is exemplary; the crew is enthusiastic, considerate, and very friendly and accommodating. The food is fresh, and the menu has traditional breakfast dishes in addition to some unique spins. There are a bunch of omelets, breakfast sandwiches, and breakfast platters to choose from, and each can be tweaked to your preferences. Sausage instead of ham? No problem! Provolone instead of cheddar? You got it! My favorite is the Rise N Shiner, a huge breakfast sandwich (egg, sausage, hash brown, and cheese with pesto on a braided roll) that will knock you out. And the home fries are TRUE home fries - real chuncks of potato, lightly seasoned and fried. The prices are reasonable - most dishes are under $10 per person. A party of six is the largest they can fit without rearranging the tables and chairs. While I've never had a party larger than two, I'm sure they could fit groups larger than 6. I was looking for a low-key place to bring my Dad for breakfast before he headed back home after a weekend visit. This place had 4 stars and people seemed to enjoy it, so we went even though I usually prefer to bring visitors to "old favorites." I will start by saying that this was one of the most frustrating brunch experiences I've ever encountered. The on street parking was difficult, but certainly not the restaurants fault. We finally parked, walked a few blocks, and got our name on the list. 1. The expected wait time was 20-30 minutes, which seemed kinda long being there were only 2 small parties in front of us. 2. The restaurant has an opportunity to improve the wait experience in a few ways. They should offer you a cup of coffee at the self-serve station while you wait. They could have some seating there. They could remove the super awkward 2 top table by the window, because as the wait queue built up, we had a hard time not intruding on their space and their breakfast. 3. The most frustrating thing I noticed was there were tables pushed all the way up against the restaurant's left wall, and then an entirely unnecessarily wide, open floor plan that could have EASILY fit more tables between that and the counter where people sat. But instead of filling in more tables, they had a queue out the door. And then, to make it worse, they were seating parties of 2 at a table set for 6, which was made still worse because the tables for 6 were really 4 top tables next to 2 tops. So all they had to do was pull the 2 top a couple feet out, and they could have seated a part of 2 AND a party of 4! Watching this made me so annoyed (yes, I will admit I was hangry at this point, but c'mon! Efficiency!!!!) 4. We finally sat and my Dad ordered a coffee, which had apparently been available to him the entire time, but nobody had offered it to us. He got up to make his coffee and there were no cups. (More long waiting while someone went to restock the coffee station.) 5. We ordered and there was very little in the way of accommodations for dairy free patrons, including no alternative to dairy milk, which is pretty standard at most places these days. My Dad is diabetic and requested sugar-free syrup, which they also didn't have. (I have my own thoughts on sugar-free syrup for diabetics, but that's a whole different sort of post.) 6. We got the food and it was quite mediocre after all the waiting. I had ordered some sort of vegetable skillet, and the pieces of sweet potatoes were so big, I may as well have just ordered sweet potatoes and asked for mushrooms and other veg to be sprinkled on top. My Dad got a breakfast sandwich and it was small, pretty standard, and underwhelming. 7. It took forever to get a check. Overall, the staff were friendly, but that doesn't outweigh any of the obviously glaring issues this place had. And I almost didn't leave a review at all because I had nothing nice to say, but I hope this restaurant takes a look at what they are doing. Within 5 minutes I identified a handful of things they could improve, and I know next to nothing about the restaurant business. read more

Not a problem because we were offered gourmet self serve coffee. Once we were seated and food served. Immediately I noticed we didn't have silverware on the table. We informed a waitress (not ours) with a nasty attitude she told us to wait a moment. However, the rest of the staff totally recovered with an apologetic attitude and a great since of humor. For some reason service at lunch on a weekday is barely nonexistent. I had the Bacon Mushroom Hash and it was one of my favorite dishes but they decided to cut back on bacon so badly that it was barely 1 strip chopped into tiny pieces. Sorry Craig's Cafe but the more popular you get, the greedy you are. A few years ago, the service was impeccable. The waiters and waitresses were always attentive and showed a caring approach to their customers. Now it feels that they don't need this kind of service with their popularity as you can see by the yelp reviews. It is no longer a hidden gem and as a result, it has spurn away the regulars. The food was delicious, filling, and generous. Now they cut corners by reducing ingredients hoping you aren't aware or hiking up the prices expecting it will be fine. I imagine the owner of this place LOVES breakfast since I have never encountered a breakfast menu with so many options and varieties (I think there about 8 different breakfast sandwiches to choose from). The restaurant itself is charming and cute. My friend and I split an order of their pumpkin pancakes with cinnamon butter, which we enjoyed immensely. I had the "Talk of the Town' breakfast sandwich and loved it! This place is going to become a regular breakfast stop for me. I have mixed feelings on the serve-yourself coffee station On one hand, it is nice being able to mix up the blends (they had about 8 different options such as: french roast, smores, and pumpkin). I sampled a few and enjoyed them all. You can also help yourself as you wait for a table (we lucked out and only waited about 5 minutes). But the mugs are TINY and I made 3 trips to the coffee station. I would love larger mugs so you can make your prefect cup and then sit back and enjoy your breakfast. I also wish they had some sweeteners on the table so you can make adjustments there instead of having to return to the station. Parking can be a bit challenging, but if you don't mind walking a bit . . . you'll find a spot for sure. The staff was attentive and friendly. Reasonably prices, too! Craig's cafe is the only decent breakfast in downtown Quincy. I like the atmosphere of the restaurant. It's rustic and warm. Also have the option to sit outside during the summer time. My only complaint about the place itself is the cleanliness. The outside seats have stains. The forks are sticky with syrup. And there is grains of sugar on the floor. I like the self serve coffee bar. They have different delicious opinions for hot coffee. And you can add as much cream and sugar as you need. And refills when you want them. The food would have tasted good if it was served to me hot. I felt as though I waited longer than the other customers for my food. My bacon and eggs have turn cold when it finally came to my table. And by then I still couldn't eat it because we were still waiting for our forks. The food is good. The service not so much. I am somewhat disappointed with breakfast that day. I was just here and the experience was awful. Theres no excuse for a establishment to take 10 minutes to seat someone. Theres also no excuse for for taking 15 minutes to come over and take our order. We ordered sodas and food and when our sodas were finished we were never asked by our waiter if we wanted refills. A note about the waiter. He never introduced himself, was miserable, and seemed not to care. It seemed to bother him that we came in. The food was below average. The potatos were raw and eggs benidict wasnt that great. Ive had much better food at other places. We just had to chase down the waiter to get the check and then get it back which took 5 minutes. In total we were there well over an hour. I've been a regular at Craig's Cafe for almost 5 years. The recent "boom" in Quincy has definitely helped propel deserving small businesses forward and allowed Craig's the opportunity to expand into the dinner market (which is great!.. for them). Because of the mass amount of people moving to Quincy, Craig's has become quite the place to go for weekend breakfast. Unfortunately, Craig's hasn't been able to grow/adapt at the same speed. Because of this: service is slow and not always accurate, the food is not presented as well as a restaurant should plate food, the wait times are given on a whim with no real gauge of time, and the waitstaff isn't trained to handle the capacity or any of the changes affecting their business. I was once a Sunday morning regular, but since February every Sunday I've gone to Craig's it is pure chaos. The waitstaff/host can't give guests accurate wait times, there is no system (or room) for guests waiting, and breakfast dishes which should take 20 minutes or so now take +1hr. After today, I can't say I'll be back to keep my "regular" status. (even take-out is a disaster... they begin to prepare the order when you show up to pay) It's too messy and unorganized. Such a shame because most importantly and the 1 thing they do right, excellent food! read more

THE place to go for brunch in Quincy. Super homey atmosphere. The owner has built up a place over many years that has become a real institution in Quincy. You even see the mayor stop by for lunch. Food is fantastic. Several of the meats are prepared home style by the owner. The place does get busy at brunch times on the weekend and for lunch during the week, you plan on some wait time. And now with the restructuring of Quincy center there is also outdoor seating during the warm months and you are just across from the new Adams Green park space.
