My review is going to be biased do to me just plain loving broasted chicken. I don't think I have ever had broasted chicken that I don't like. I didn't even look at the menu. I just said bring me the broasted chicken that's what I came here for. This place serves up all you can eat and it's fantastic. The mashed potatoes were as good as the chicken. They just keep asking you what do you want more. I nearly had to roll myself out of there. I sat at the bar and watched the news on tv while stuffing myself full of chicken mashed potatoes coleslaw and bread if you want it. It's just outside of town. Was in Sunday 9/26/21 and left my wallet behind, by the time I realized it I was home about an hour and a half away. The lady I assume was the owner had left a message on my answering machine and had even called the Chamber of Commerce in my hometown trying to track me down. When I contacted her I was assured the wallet was secured and she said I could pick it up the next day. On Tuesday 9/28/21my wife and I returned to retrieve the wallet and enjoy the broasted chicken. The way she handled the lost wallet was greatly appreciated and the food on both occasions was outstanding. Ignore the negative reviews on this site, this is an outstanding casual place to enjoy the food and if you have a problem...tell them! We went on a Tuesday evening because we could never seem to get a parking space on the weekend due to the crowd. We got seated right away. Restaurant was busy but not crazy busy. Husband and I both ordered the all you can eat chicken dinner and it was fantastic. They start you off with a basket of warm cinnamon rolls and dinner rolls which were delicious. The chicken dinner we ordered had red skin mashed potatoes with gravy, coleslaw and our choice of mixed white and dark meat. It was delicious! Best broasted chicken around this area! Due to the Corona virus pandemic, the dining room was closed. First of all, they tried to overcharge us by $15. My husband had the fish fry/chicken combo. When I ordered it, I was told he would get 3 pieces of fish. He only got 2 pieces and when we called, we were told that it was by weight. That was not explained upon ordering. Then, the broasted chicken was very dry. It looked like it had been sitting around a long time and was not fresh. We have been a loyal customer to Crandalls for 30+years. The food has been consistently above average, however, recently the establishment had changed hands. On our visit today we were very disappointed in the change of flavor of their re noun Broasted Chicken. We are of the opinion the new owners have Tampered with 30 year proven formula The chicken has lost it's outstanding flavor. Chicken has been hard and dry. Tastes like it is refried. Been there 3 times in the past year. They were not polite or apologetic for the bad food and service. We all ordered all you can eat and one person was served on a plate that was like a salad plate. Can't recommend this place anymore. I was really looking forward to my first time eating at Crandalls. We decided to go Wednesday and try the all you can eat broasted chicken. I was not told of their apparent "rule" about left-overs. The waitress brought out 3 pieces of chicken. After eating 2 pieces, she asked if I wanted more. I said yes and she brought out 1 piece of breast meat. I ate half of it and couldn't eat any more. So I asked for a container for the left over breast meat and the leg. I was told I could not bring it home which is odd because they are going to throw it away. I did pay for the all you can eat broasted chicken and was by no means abusing the all you can eat policy. It was not like she brought out 3 more pieces and I asked to take them home. That was very disappointing. The food was good but the waitress was not very hospitable and I won't go back or recommend it. The response I got from Crandalls was even more disappointing. I'm sorry that you were not aware of our rules for the all you can eat chicken and we could've been more clear initially. When re-ordering we do not allow people to take home the leftovers because people would abuse the system and re-order more just to take it home. We need to keep the rule the same for everyone to be fair. However if you don't re-order more then you are more than welcome to take home what's left on your plate. Even one extra piece for everyone on a weekend would be over 1000pcs people would take home. I hope you will give us another chance. I drive past candalls ofton bit I am so not a fan. Service is VERY slow. One person order ribs with twice-baked potato and I ordered chicken. Very nice venue. We were somewhat hesitant due to some bad reviews on service. Our food was excellent (we both had the all you can eat chicken option). The service was great from our server named Paren. She was both friendly and attentive. Very sweet lady. The facility is very clean and well arranged for COVID safety. My friends catered Chicken and the trimmings for a Fathers Day Celebration. When the Son went to pick up the large order they told him it would be a 45 minute wait because they were so busy. This was ordered at the beginning of the week so they had plenty of time to have it done in time. Finally got the order and he asked if they were sure everything was there. They said all was there. He asked for help carrying it out and was told they didn't have enough help. When he arrived home the Potatoes and gravy were not there. He had to drive another 20 minutes back to Crandalls to get the rest of the order. The person gave him $20.00 and a water bottle for the inconvenience. We believe they could have offered a bit more as it really changed the timing of dinner and the inconvenience of all the time spent waiting, driving back and forth and so on. One of our hungry guests once had 10 pieces and the waitress kept bringing chicken to our table cheerfully. There are no doggy bags for all you can eat - as another reviewer pointed out - but it is clearly posted before you order. We have eaten here for years - it is worth the 40 minute drive. The Sunday Brunch is super reasonable with their famous broasted chicken, creamy mashed tators, excellent coleslaw, biscuits and gravy, hashed browns, bacon, eggs, cheese blintzes, fresh fruit and full salad bar plus other hot dishes. Only negative is that the Sunday Brunch desserts taste like they were frozen than thawed which I guess is to be expected. Brunch was 16.95 pp in April 2019. The all you can eat broasted chicken also has unlimited side refills. Best coleslaw hands down. Ask for a side if gravy to dip your chicken. You won't be disappointed. There is no better broasted chicken! The mashed potatoes have the skins on them and they are delicious. A small basket of Cinnamon rolls comes to the table when you are seated. I like chicken, it tastes just like chicken. I like it in tacos, grilled, in Italian food, in salad and with a variety of spices or sauces added to it. I currently buy and make Greek chicken frequently and I use organic chicken which costs more but heck, I have consumed enough of my own antibiotics. Chicken can be delicious! One way I do not like it is fried. I did not grow up eating fried chicken so the window of opportunity for developing that enjoyment seems to have closed for me. Here you can get "broasted" chicken which is definitely NOT roasted. It seems pretty greasy (fried) to me and quite frankly all I taste is the coating and the oil. Everyone seems to love this chicken and the fact that you can eat all you want plus lots of really mediocre mashed potatoes, pasty gravy and limp cole slaw. Added to the stuff your face fun is baskets of microwaved white rolls, sweetened and not. Why do I come here? Because I love my husband and his siblings adore this place. They gather here for their semi regular family dinners on an occasional basis. So I come along and eat less than mediocre food of which I can have all I want. My one plate is more than I want. Walked in at 1pm. Our two hamburgers took 25 minutes to get served. The resturant had a family party of 14 and 7 other tables. The service was slow and our waitress was not pleasent when I asked about our food. The manager stepped in and took care of us and made our experience pleasant. Our burgers were thick and juicy. I loved Crandalls broasted chicken. It's so moist and tender. Even the white meat, which on occasion has a tendency to become tough, was the perfect texture. I went on one of those all-you-can eat nights. It seemed like a good deal for $10.95. I believe that comes with the chicken usual suspects such as mashed potatoes/gravy and dinner rolls. Yes, the service is very poor. Nothing is worse than being extremely hungry and then watching everyone around you (who were seated after you too) get their food before you. So the all you can eat turns into whenever you can flag down the waitress for another drumstick. So probably don't come if you're really hungry. All in all, Crandalls is a pretty good place. Everyone I talked to loved this place and the reason I went here was specifically for the chicken. The service was fantastic. Some of the best we have ever had. The key though is the product. The bread served prior to the meal was good if not very good. My daughter and I split the Caesar salad. While it was tasty and all fresh ingredients, I would not call it a traditional caesar salad. They do not typically have mushrooms although that part as good and I do not recall having one with onions. I like onions but there were almost as many onions as lettuce. The salad really packed a punch and my eyes watered from it. On to the Chicken. My family liked the chicken. It was ok to me. I had very high expectations so maybe I am overdoing it here as so many people have made this place a tradition and truly enjoy it. You can see it on the customers faces. So, maybe it was my taste. I would give the chicken 2 stars cause I have experienced better. A lot better. The overall 3 was because the rest of the experience helped average it out a bit. The skin should have been crisp and not moist to me. I do not know if it was sitting out too long and captured moisture from the inside or what. Even the 2nd batch we got on the all you can eat was the same. I was hungry when we left and could have asked for more, but chose not too. Most people will probably really enjoy this place and return over and over. I am just giving my point of view.
