Crazy Beans is a really cute little retro spot in Greenport that's dishing up breakfast all day long and tasty lunches. The first thing you notice when you walk in is the décor, reminiscent of a 50s diner, which sets it apart from other places. We went for lunch while family was in town and we all left satisfied and happy with our choice to go here. We ended up getting their BLT (stacked with bacon and fresh LT), the lobster roll (filled to the brim with lobster salad, fries, and coleslaw), and my favorite for the day was their Cuban sandwich (pulled pork, grilled ham, fried pickles). Both the Cuban and the lobster roll were pretty big and could have been split but I wasn't mad about taking half of that glorious sandwich home with me. The prices for lunch were reasonable especially for being out East. Our server was also really nice and helpful with questions about the menu. Wow what a treat! An old fashioned luncheonette type breakfast spot with phenomenal coffee, food, service and atmosphere! The coffee options are unlike any other I've seen with some fun & inventive flavor options. After i read their story I knew this was a place for us... family owned.. small business.. and locals.. just perfect! All food is made to order so took a lil while to come out but well worth the wait! I had lobster hash with over easy eggs that were cooked just right. We went here without a reservation and got straight in. They are at 50% capacity so some parties waited for a table that showed up after us. I got coffee (black, they were out of French vanilla) and the chicken and waffles with a side of bacon. My partner got the crab Benedict with a side of chicken sausage. Everything was really tasty. I would definitely come back. The service was also great (much better than we received across the street at Bruce & Son). Really don't get the hype. 45 min wait at 10 am on Saturday morning. Menu has almost no vegetables and the cook seems to be dead set on keeping obesity epidemic going. More on food: giant lobster and red pepper hash was probably 95% of potatoes with microscopic bits of lobster and pepper. Soaked in grease and burned to death. My toast was also soaked in grease and burned to death. The whole breakfast felt like munching through greasy crisps. Luckily I ordered poached eggs that are cooked in plain water. Side dish of fruit was tiny. Pancake quesadilla sounded like a very creative dish but it's huge enough for 2-3 adults. Why serve and waste so much food?? On a positive note kudos for paper straws! This review really should be a 3.5. I love Greenport for all the unique eateries with personality. I came to Crazy Beans with high expectations, but ultimately they fell short in a few areas. With that said, they also shined in others. I'll break them down in a minute, but bottom line: creative, funky diner with decent food. Service: I'll start with the standout. Our waitress was upbeat, friendly and good at her job. She deserves a 5/5. The over-eager bus girl, not so much. She was desperate to clear plates to the point of being rude at times. I get she was trying to do her job, but it's super annoying to keep coming back to clear plates when members of the party are still eating. 4/5 for her. Coffee: From what my dining companions said, the coffee was delicious and fresh. I got a specialty latte (chocolate covered strawberry). There was a funny aftertaste that you sometimes get with Starbucks' specialty lattes, and it was super sweet. Some people might enjoy this, but it wasn't for me. I don't think that's a knock on the place, but worth mentioning for those considering a latte. 4/5 Food: The table ordered a little of everything...a salad, a BLT, Cuban, and BBQ pork. I shared the Cuban and BBQ pulled pork. The bread and roll were very fresh. The coke slaw on the pulled pork was yummy. The pork was salty. We shared avocado fries. They were delicious and a very cool concept. I don't think the food was anything special beyond your typical diner fare. Then again, no one got breakfast. I wonder if that would've been the better option. In any case, it's just okay for me. 3/5 A note about the women's bathroom...it stinks. Every now and then I would get a whiff of a strange smell. I couldn't place it. Before we left, I used the bathroom. Gross. Not very clean and smelled terrible, vile. I'm sorry, but I judge a place by the cleanliness of the bathroom. Delicious! I love crazy beans in Stony Brook so figured I would love Greenport as well. Come early if you don't want to wait on the weekend, we got there around 9:30 and waited about 10 mins for seats at the bar. It was two of us so it was fine. Service was quick and friendly. Hidden gem! We have family in Greenport, which is why we come here regularly. Funding a "go-to" spot has been difficult, before we came here for the first time. Overall, my experience was very disappointing. Yelp says vegan options but this is not true, unless you count French fries. I asked if they could modify a menu item and fix me a cold vegetable wrap with spiced chick peas if they left off the cheese to make it vegan. This was the only vegan item available, nothing else on the menu could be made vegan, according to the indifferent young woman at the counter. I got an order of fries with it and a large black coffee to go, and hoped for the best. The total came to about $19 and it was all pretty disgusting. 2 bites of the wrap, 2 sips of the coffee, and several of the fries before it all went back in the bag to be tossed out after my 3 hour drive back to Manhattan. Drove out to Greenport last Saturday with my boyfriend for no reason. We parked and were walking around trying to find somewhere to eat. We were between Crazy Beans and the place across the street (I can't think of the name). We decided on Crazy Beans because they had a higher rating and we were happy we did! Once I looked at the menu I saw there were other locations in Stony Brook and Miller Place and it hit me! OMG I have been wanting to try the Crazy Beans in Stony Brook for so long! So I was super excited. I ordered the Cajun Bloody Mary without the Cajun spice on the rim and my boyfriend ordered the s'more latte hot. The Cajun bloody mary wasn't up my alley. It has a pickley after taste and I love pickles, just not in my bloody mary. I pawned it off on my boyfriend and stole his latte. The s'more latte was so pretty with all the whipped cream and chocolate sauce dripped on it. The coffee itself was very good (it tastes just like my favorite drink at Brownstones the white chocolate mocha latte) so I loved it. It was also huge!!! Prefect for me and my boyfriend to share. For our entrees, I ordered the lobster roll with French fries and my boyfriend ordered the Cuban sandwich and a side of friend avocados. It look alittle while to come out but when it did, it was amazing. The lobster roll was huge (only$21.95) and it was delicious. It even came with a pickle and cole slaw as well! The Cuban sandwich came out pipping hot and it was delicious as well (around $9) but it did not come with a side. The fried avocados were also very tasty (around $8). I think they would be perfect on a sandwich because the outside is crispy and the side is soft. Overall, the price point is pretty good for the amount of food you get and the food is delicious! If I could give this place NO stars I would. The floors are filthy, the waitress rushed us from the minute we walked in. After we were seated we were told the kitchen is closing in 10 minutes. Why let us and others in after us if they were closing. We asked for another drink because my grandaughter didn't like it. It was taken back but with giving us bad looks as if we were bothering them. Leaving in Nassau none of the locations are near me however my coworkers from Suffolk always mention crazy beans as their go to places for speciality coffees/lattes. The biggest recommendation I was given is to try the rainbow cookie latte, I got it iced and I wasn't disappointed! My only disappointment was when my cup was empty!!! Only think that would have made it better was if it was topped with a rainbow cookie. This is such a great breakfast spot! I enjoyed everything I got to try here. I ordered a special that just sounded so good. The Lobster Hash & Eggs were an incredible dish and was a perfect breakfast item to order. The lobster was cooked perfectly with the hash browns and with the over easy eggs on top just made it all perfect. I loved it. My daughter enjoyed her french toast sticks and my niece got the egg white 7 grain baguette which looked great and tasted just as good. The coffee here was great as well. Mismatched mugs and placemats, walls covered in cutesy posters, the collection of goods from the vintage store down the street- all adorable touches that I loved. The menu is fun, trendy, and pretty big, honestly. My vegetarian friend just got eggs, which he didn't mind, and I ordered the farmer's market omelet. We were seated pretty quickly at the bar and the food came out reasonably quick for how busy they were. The food and coffee were great, nothing mind-blowing, but definitely a good start to a great day. The waitress was lovely and attentive. I'm changing my review! I used to like this place but one of the waitresses is a real piece of work! My granddaughter loved this place before what happened. She was with her girlfriends and after their sub-par meal my granddaughter accidentally made a mistake on the bill and didn't give enough money. I used be a restaurant MANAGER and I can tell you from EXPERIENCE this mistake happens. They left and walked all the way down the block and were chased down aggressively by their waitress. She yelled at them saying they didn't pay enough and didn't even leave enough for a tip. Once my granddaughter apologized and gave even more money than necessary she was still rude to them. NO CLASS! Disgusting behavior. I've had to do this before and I would never be this rude. 99% of the time it's an honest mistake when I've had to do this. They never count the money before you leave anyway they just take it which could have avoided any of these issues in the first place. read more
