After we read some of the reviews, we were a little wary but had the thought of Greek food locked in our heads so decided to give it a try. The restaurant is attractive for a "order at the counter" type with the kitchen tidy and very visible just over the counter top. The four of us ordered Curry Chicken, Beef Kabobs and two different kinds of eggplant dishes along with an excellent appetizer. The appetizer arrived in approx. 10-12 minutes with our entrees about 20 minutes later. We did not detect any attitude problems but did feel English was not the staff's first language. If you are a fast lane American, you will get impatient as even with an almost empty restaurant, our food took a while to arrive. On the other hand, when it did arrive, the presentation was excellent and the taste even better. My beef kebobs were delicious and included a generous amount of rice and a salad on the same plate. Great blending of flavors. I looked forward to every bite. If the Crest Cafe had a more formal setup, I would have given it 5 stars. A good spot for lunch or dinner if you have enough time and don't mind the informal atmosphere. Right next to the Crest Theater with parking structures not far away. Prices are a little high for the style of restaurant but a coupon brought it down nicely. They do not have a liquor license. The food here was exceptional. It featured a sort of garlic-based ranch sauce to dip things in...super tasty! That is the only reason why I'm giving this a star, as a restaurant's quality is not only in its food, but the care and comfort the staff provide. Awesome atmosphere, excellent food, great service. The girl at the counter (can't remember her name, but she was super cute) was extremely helpful, and suggested I choose the kofta over the falafel (but then brought me some falafel to try for free! how's that for service?). The food was delicious: the falafel was warm and crumbly, but a little dry, and (as advised) wasn't as tasty to me as the kofta, which was moist and deliciously fatty/umami-tasting and aromatic, although a bit chewy. The gyro bread (only two pieces--enough for me but perhaps not for others) was soft and pleasantly doughy, with a mild flavor that carried the other items well. The white rice was also delicious: hot, with a buttery/oily/sauteed flavor, the substantial texture of long grain, and some kind of brown, earthy, but subtle spice on it that I can't name but really liked. The salad had ripe, flavorful tomatoes, crisp cucumbers and romaine lettuce, and was a fresh and cool contrast to the warm and savory kofta. The restaurant is clean with a little fenced-in patio that is quiet and shaded: perfect when the temperature outside is nice. A delicious and enjoyable spot. read more

I love the food at Crest Cafe! The restaurant is very open and has large, tall windows, so it feel bright and airy. The servers are friendly. One of my favorite items to order is their Mediterranean sampler plate with the falafel, dolma, tahini sauce, hummus, and pita bread. I also like to order their grilled eggplant, and their salads, which you can also top with chicken or lamb. I love eggplant, and Crest Cafe makes the best grilled eggplant. They salt it, grill it, drizzle it with oil, and serve it with sauce. So delicious! My boyfriend is vegetarian and he likes to order the falafel wrap. It is a great deal for the price and fills him up (he's a big man). The food is very fresh and satisfying. Crest Cafe is our go-to place for a delicious and fun date. read more

I got the Mediterranean nachos- which had very hard pita chips. Kabobs were good but just disappointed in the nachos.

I when for luch i had a beef shawrma and my wife Chicken kabab wrap first of all they are very stingy on the meat. I could even find the meat Nothing but lettuce and tomatoes and the sauce is blend no flavor lol...$21 for both wrap does not even worth it at all this people they go there every day if they noticed there are enough meat on it Wrap not enough protein I never go there again lol..... what a waste... read more

Follow the example of this place...I'm bumping my review from three stars to five stars. I've been here quite a few times. I used to come in here with Cameron when we first moved back to Sacramento. The last time I came here, I just had a soda and sat at the back of the restaurant on my computer (using their free wifi). First off, that's very nice of them to offer free wifi (especially when I only bought a refillable soda). I didn't eat here this visit. As I was sitting at the table, busily sending out my resume, someone came up and asked if I was a customer who came in with his son and would sit at a different table. I said, yes that was me. She told me it was very nice to see me again, and she was happy to have me back. I thanked her and thought she was kind to remember me. Then about ten minutes later, the owner came over to me and introduced herself, and told me how happy she was to see me again. She too, remembered me coming in with my son quite a few months prior. She was very sweet. Now, I remember my review for this restaurant. And I remember what I said about this restaurant. And I know that they remember my review and what I said about this restaurant. And that review was many among dozens that have been done (and yes, the owner told me that she remembers my review). The impression that leaves me with, is that they took to heart what I said. I love the food here. Some of the best Medi food you can find in Sacramento. But what got me, is that they remembered what I had said months prior about being standoff-ish. It's not that I thought they were being rude, I just believed it was a cultural difference. But when I came back, they went out of their way to make me feel comfortable, wanted. They were being the opposite of standoff-ish. And that SO IMPRESSED ME! It shows me that they take to heart what their customers think of their restaurant, their food, their culture, and everything that embodies them. Because of this, I will always be a huge supporter of this place. Not just with my patronage (I will come back many more times), but also with my recommendations to other people. Whenever someone is looking for somewhere to eat downtown, this will be one of the first places that I recommend. Look, eating food and critiquing it is not very stable. We can say what we want, be it good or bad, depending on many factors OTHER than what we just ate. To take what someone says about you or your food (as constructive criticism) and make a change based on that...shows growth and dedication. I appreciate that whole-heartedly. This is a decent Greek restaurant to hit up for lunch if you're in the downtown/K Street area. It could be a little cleaner, and the staff could be a bit friendlier, but the food was fine. I went with the falafel, and it was good and filling. Reasonably priced too. It looked like they may have a lunch buffet as well, but I think we just missed it. I'm reading some mediocre to bad reviews on here, which is somewhat surprising. I've always had good experiences when I eat at Crest Café. The lady at the cash register is always pretty nice and will always answer whatever questions I have about the mysterious mediterranean food. And the food is always fresh and really good! However, like any mediterranean type of food, bring a toothbrush for afterwards! Crest Café loves garlic, and so do I, so it's a bad combo. It's kind of pricey... not too expensive, just not very inexpensive. But for $9.99 (or something around there) you can get their buffet for lunch, and it looks good, and it's all you can eat, so for all you mediterranean big eaters out there, Crest Café is for you. Also, they have Orange Fanta on tap, so it gets an extra star. read more

Monira was very accommodating to our needs and went out of her way to help us plan a menu within our budget. The food was delicious, especially the out of this world Mediterranean Nachos. First time here. The food wasn't very good. Shawarma chicken was odd and tasted like old canned chicken and the dolmades were weird tasting and hot and almost seemed stuffed with a weird soupy risotto. They were pan fried and crispy. Why soak them in olive oil then? They're supposed to be soft and tender and cold or room temp. The chicken and the dolmades both tasted a lot like chicken bouillon. I love the Crest Cafe for lunch. Ever since it is under new ownership there food has really tasted better and the place is a lot cleaner as well. I really only get the lunch buffett and love it every time I go. They usually have many vegetarian options in the buffett which is refreshing. And it is only $10 for the lunch buffett and a drink - and with the amount of options and quality I think that is a great deal. I recommend it to everyone who works in the downtown area and wants to go and grab a quick bite! read more

Egh.. What a joke this place was. My wife and I went here last night and I am a fan of Greek/Meditteranean food and was excited to try it out. We went to the Lisa Lampanelli show last night at the 10pm show. We came to the Crest Cafe to grab a bite before the show and got to the Cafe at 9pm.. An hour before the show, not to mention the cafe is connected to the Theatre... Plenty of time, Right? WRONG!!! We ordered at 9pm and had to tell them at 9:55 that we had to leave. I happened into this place today and ordered a Gyro Ceasar Lavash Wrap, as well as some Dolmathes. The wrap was great and was enough food for two to share. It wasn't world class dining or anything, but the price was decent. The lettuce was fresh, the gyro was nicely seasoned, and the tzaziki was very flavorful. The dolmathes were a bit pricey, but they had a nice zesty flavor. I didn't really care for the ranch-like dipping sauce that they came with. I'd give the food about 3 stars, but if I was rating the staff, this place would get 5 stars. When the man who brought our food realized that we were sharing, he offered to cut it in half and put it on two plates for us. They also threw a couple extra dolmas in for us, which was nice. They did have a lunch buffet that came with a free fountain drink, which they tried to sell us on, but I really don't care for buffet food in general because it tends to be lower quality slop that has been sitting out for a couple of hours. Still, if you're into buffets, it's there. I'd order off the menu if I were you, though. Good cheap pre-movie eats, and I like the idea of smuggling falafels in to the theatre. read more

I decided to come here for lunch with so co workers since a lamb gyro wrap sounded good and we worked pretty close to here. I came here for Friday lunch and it was packed so naturally it took a while to get our food unfortunately. I of course ordered the lamb gyro wrap and it was large. It was actually quite bigger than I expected but only because they stuffed it with plenty of veggie along with the gyro meat. The food itself was so fresh tasting and the tzatziki sauce was good, it was so good I got more of it to go with the other half of my gyro. In the future I will try to call in my order because I almost didnt finish within my lunch hour because they take a while to make the food if it is crowded. read more

Not too many people knows about their buffet. My boss showed me this place and we come here 1-2x a week. The To Go buffet costs less than $11 with a drink included. You have to try the eggplant and samosas. It is healthier than McDonald's LOL. The buffet is pretty much mostly veggies so I don't feel guilty eating. This place really deserves 4 stars in my book, but today was an off day, so I had to knock a star down. I might consider adding the star back later, but only if they are worthy of the extra star! First things first, today is 102 degrees so naturally I came went inside Crest Cafe feeling hot and sweaty and was hoping it would be cooler indoors. WRONG! There was neither AC nor fans blowing. This means one would get sweaty just standing in line to order (which I did). I admit that not having AC is a first world problem. I can forgive that it was too warm for people to be eating and ordering there. I waited for my number to be called. I grabbed my order thinking it was strange because the box seemed smaller than what I can remember. I was thinking "all right... food is getting expensive so maybe they had to cut back on their portion size" which is understandable if you want to keep the prices the same but have to cut back slightly. Well, I got back to my office hot, sweaty and hungry. When I opened my take out order, it dawned on me that the portion size didn't get smaller; I did not get what I ordered. I was thinking that maybe I picked up someone else's order, but that is not it because she called out my number and everyone else around me was dining in. My co-workers told me to go back or call and ask for a credit. At that point, I just didn't care because it was way too hot to go back. I ate the meal and it was filling and delicious. Unfortunately, I was slightly disappointed that I paid too much for my meal. What I ordered was more expensive in comparison to what I received. Another reason a star got knocked down was the amount of oil that was at the bottom of the box. I know olive oil is healthy, but too much of something healthy becomes unhealthy. Oh well, better luck next time I guess! Tip: Check your meal before leaving to make sure that you are getting what you ordered! read more

Had the buffet lunch. 11.50 with a tip and drink. Overall very good. Their order line is bad though, no sense of how to get IN line. The buffet had two kinds of rice, plain and "doctored", I had the doctored and it was good. A bunch of veggie options, spinach, cauliflower, zucchini, two meats, chicken that was almost "indianesque" and a meatball dish that was just ok. Only other knock, they served the pita right out of a bag, did not heat it, just sliced and pick your own, out of the bag, with tongs. Kind of a pain. Incredibly disappointed with this place. I went during my lunch break. I had chicken shawarma on my mind ever since watching Triple D a couple days ago and thought I would give this place a try. The customer service was pretty sub par. Like someone else mentioned, they seem to have an attitude if you don't know you have a choice between rice and no rice. No friendliness whatsoever from the guy that took my order or the girl that gave me the food and definitely no impression that they wanted my business. The food was the most disappointing. I ordered the chicken shawarma which came with a pita and some lettuce and tomato. The chicken was extremely dry and was a disgusting yellow puke color with the marinade. The flavor on the chicken was disgusting. I'm still wondering if they were out of shawarma and gave me their house chicken instead because it was nothing like any shawarma I have ever seen. A pool of oil sat in between the chicken and the pita and the pita itself was really hard around the edges like it had been sitting out a long time. With the combination of bad service and bad food, I won't be returning to try anything else. There are just too many good food places in the downtown area to give this place another try. read more
